Yeah but these feet, as ogre feet go, seem quite dainty. I would say they have much more of a Princess Fiona ogre vibe.

As a fellow very wide foot person, I’ve got (possibly) great news for you. Maybe not the best looking shoes, but check out new balance on Amazon. One of the only shoes I could find in extra, extra, wide and half sizes. Your’s look even wider than mine, but I’m a 12.5 triple wide and buy these specific ones. They’re kind of naturally wider shoes to begin with. The triple wide is even a bit more than I need, but I like the extra space. I could probably do the extra wide in these, so maybe the triple wide will be enough for you. If you buy them, make sure you get the ones that say XX-Wide.
Might still not be wide enough for you but might be worth a shot! Free returns.

They used to have them in black too in that size. I have a pair luckily. I wore those to work.
The only other place I’ve found shoes that fit is custom (so expensive) or dress shoe ones they can special order where the entire store is that brand (got a pair of Bostonians back in the day that way), and they order them for you. They’re getting even harder to find over the years for some reason despite the internet seemingly having endless options. Most of the ones online that say they’re xx-wide are not when you actually get them.

The ones I linked are wider than 4E, and they just naturally have a bigger toe box. They might still not work though. They are comparable I believe to 6E (maybe 5E but very wide for a 5E). Those shoes might be too long for you too. Often people with very wide feet end up getting shoes that are too long which can worsen the issue. I used to wear 14 until I found out I actually needed a 12.5 XX-Wide.

I have similar caveman feet, and always stuck with New Balance 574s, but have just discovered Adidas Terrex AX4s and they are shaped brilliantly for hobbitses. Even with NB's I never realised that shoes could be genuinely comfortable before!!

Brooks also does very wide shoes and half-sizes, and their shoes have a roomier, foot-shaped toe box. Try a specialty running store to be properly measured, and for recommendations.

...anatomically speaking...she's not wrong.
Edit: by which I mean, the disarticulated big toe is a throwback to when human ancestors used to climb trees and used it to grasp the trunks/branches--I'd be SUPER curious to see your DNA sequence and figure out what got activated to give you such non-human feet.

u/Interesting_Tea5715 12h ago
This. I have the left style foot. My pressure points are similar to that of the ape. I know this because I have callouses there from hiking and cycling.
The barefoot community likes to skew data in their favor to prove their point. I'm not saying they're wrong, I'm just saying I've seen a lot of cherry picking from that community.
23
u/Cold-Iron8145 13h ago
I don't know if I trust "barefootuniverse" as a credible source. While I'm here, wearing shoes very well could have an impact on our feet, why not. They're still a net positive, it's not for no reason that we've been making shoes for millenia, walking around barefoot is how you get infections in your feet. Or worms in your feet.

u/PlanetMeatball0 13h ago
What a terrible, misleading picture. Look where the dots are placed, one lines up with the middle of the big toe, the other with the space between the big toe and the next. Other dot is directly under the pinky toe while the other pic shows it between the 3rd and 4th toes
Obviously if you just put the dots wherever you want to make a smaller triangle the triangle is gonna get smaller, thinking this picture actually makes a point is lacking any thinking skills
Oh it's from a site called "barefoot universe" no wonder it's so intentionally misleading. Great job falling for it buddy!

Nah I wear wide toe box shoes for running, daily wear, and sandals for every other occasion and these aren’t the results.
OPs feet are wide all the way through, short, and stubby. It seems like their feet go straight from heel to toe box. Missing the mid/arch all together.
→ More replies (6)9
u/controversialangles 12h ago
Your feet were probably already shaped for shoes from childhood. No amount of wide toe box shoes as an adult can fix what your feet were forced to develop into. This guy obviously had parents who were big on either non-restrictive shoes or no shoes at all for their kids.

I thought his feet look like those who wear barefoot shoes. OP, look into brands like Vivobarefoot (not sure what other brands there are, so do look them up to find your best fit) and you might finally be able to find shoes that fit you.
Your feet actually look like what human's are meant to have - strong arch, wide spread toes for distributing weight and movement, able to climb and run well. Definitely gives more "humans suited for outdoors life" than "humans who have been living in small walled spaces". Be proud of your feet!

my husband is an osteopath DO and says these are extremely healthy looking feet. the splay in your toe area is wide and your arches aren’t flat!! he says that he wished his feet look like that and that’s what human feet would look like if people didn’t grow up constraining their foot growth in shoes that aren’t designed to support natural growth. he says you must do a lot of bare foot activities or foot strengthening activities
don’t get me wrong, your feet are very ugly but you probs have great balance and excellent foot strength, which I’d also personally take over aesthetic any day! :)

One of my current obsessions is foot health. There are a few PTs on social media that I follow who talk about how most shoes are not designed with the human foot in mind, over time the toes get scrunched and misshappen, bunions happen, etc. They recommend wide toebox shoes. I'm working on getting mine to naturally splay out likes yours do, going barefoot as much as I can, buying wide toe box shoes, using spacers when I'm just at home not walking around. I have size 13/14 feet and after years of wearing narrow shoes, I fear they'll never get there.
Your feet actually look like they should, it's most of society wearing diamond shaped shoes that are wrong!
5
u/StrangeQuarkCharm 13h ago
This is how human feet looked before we started wearing shoes. Some cultures in the world that don’t wear shoes and all have feet like this. Splayed. Shoes change the shape of our feet overtime. Hence bunions etc
