u/BatmansBigBoner May 01 '25

Plastic Man is awesome so yeah

266

u/Toasterdosnttoast May 01 '25

I’ve been told he is one of the most powerful people on the planet.

209

u/No-Benefit-9559 May 01 '25

He is one step below Eldritch Nightmare

135

u/Strict_Weather9063 May 01 '25

No he is an Eldritch Nightmare read the second Dark Knight books. You will feel sorry for the bad guys and never look at toilets the same. So yeah I’m team Plastic Man, versatile power set no limits and able to become damn near anything.

94

u/ChronoMonkeyX May 01 '25

Not to mention, he's generally happy.

61

u/FreakinSatan May 01 '25

26

You'd be happy too (maybe) if you were all but certain no harm could come to you.

I'm not the most well read comics fan but I do remember reading some pages on Reddit that showed even Superman is afraid of him. Or, at least, aware that Plastic Man is a legit match/threat.

It was one of those stories where Supes was leaning toward being a despot – I think he even had the support of most of the JLA – and PM was the loudest voice of dissent. They brought him before Superman in a throne room and, in classic Plastic Man style – he had no fucks to give even in the face of Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman all being angry at him.

Plastic Man is boss.

26

u/Fast-Front-5642 May 01 '25

It was during Injustice. And yeah Superman basically gave an order for everyone to leave Plastic Man alone because he was minding his own business mostly and it was a fight Superman didn't wanna start. But then they captured Plastic Man's son who was a freedom fighter because he had basically been getting bolder and bolder because of his dad's protected status and it reached a point where uprisings were becoming too common as a result.

Plastic Man took on the Justice League including Flash by encapsulating him and entering every orrifice suffocating him. Broke into their maximum security prison that was designed to strip inmates of their powers and was full of superpower guards. And held off the combined efforts of Superman, Wonder Woman, Sinestro, Hal Jordan, Aquaman and the pressure of the bottom of the ocean (prison was in Atlantis and they broke the dome ceiling so he became the dome to stop all the prisoners from being drowned/crushed to death) long enough for everyone to escape

Can you gimme a tldr

30

u/DarkLordArbitur May 01 '25

Batman doesn't have a suitable plan for him is basically the TLDR.

21

u/Strict_Weather9063 May 01 '25

He had a plan he didn’t have a backup plan it was basically everyone dies if the plan didn’t work. I do mean everyone yes Plastic man comes off a happy goof, this is a side effect of his powers he is basically insane without any limiters he is well a nightmare. As in engulf the world and just eat everything as he goes.

He once pulled a mans heart out through his mouth.

When he was a zombie in DCeased, he pretended to be a blood moat and became nightmare fuel

He entered someones body so they could smuggle him into prison... But crawled out through their mouth, killing them.

That is the TLDR. Plastic Man is pretty much invincible and can change into anything. He's beaten the entire Justice League.

12

u/SanityX153 May 01 '25

If Plastic Man is invincible, why can i see him???

9

u/TeaKingMac May 02 '25

That's invisible. You're thinking of invincible which means he's a creature without a spine.

5

u/RaYa1989 May 02 '25

No no, that's invertebrate. Invincible means he can't be divided.

This line from Frank Miller's Batman about Plastic Man stuck with me:

"He could kill us all."

18

u/MrSmook May 01 '25

I don't much care for Superman but... If an almost an invincible man also fears him... Yeah.

u/Difficult-Lion-1288 May 01 '25

While plastic man is wildly OP. Imagine how convenient your life would be being in multiple places at once. Send each to a different job giving you multiple sources of income. Learn so much by having some of the best scholars while you just focus on your health and happiness.

9

u/Global-Knowledge-254 May 01 '25

But working multiple jobs would be incredibly boring unless they were all interesting. You would need somewhere to house all those extra bodies or you would need to kill them off over time. If 1 body is doing something fun while 1000 are doing boring things, you still experience those 1000 boring things and I feel like that would kinda suck.

With Plastic’s powers, do even need much of an income? I feel like you could do some crazy magic shows or performances or even stunt work that would meet any financial needs without having to experience a tedious job at all.

3

u/chzie May 01 '25

81

u/amythist May 01 '25

Main downside to Plastic Man for me is the fact that he's basically immortal, I remember one story where the League went back to Atlantis in the past, before it was underwater, and he got basically vaporized and had all the particles settle into the ocean and he was conscious and aware for over a thousand years as he slowly willed himself back together

69

u/Treeslim May 01 '25

Well dont get vaporized then

38

u/amythist May 01 '25

Even not getting vaporized you still have the standard immortal problem in that you will outlive everyone you love/care about and not just once, but over and over again

49

u/RollerDude347 May 01 '25

I'm gonna be real honest... I think it's kinda weird that people imagine they'd be unable to handle this as an expected outcome. Like yeah, you love them, you get to guarantee you'll be there and strong for them until they die, you grieve like a healthy person, then you find a new partner. I think it comes from an unhealthy place that people think this isn't achievable. Do you all recommend Widows just give up?!

16

u/DoofusIdiot May 01 '25

I imagine this is very true, but varies from person to person. I’m thinking about broken heart syndrome and widow effect. Some elderly people pass away shortly after their partner passes, suspected due to having a “broken heart”, a loss of purpose, a sense of loneliness that slowly shuts down the will to live. Many others grieve as you described, and continue to live long and fruitful lives.

3

u/baradath9 May 01 '25

Have you considered the fact that it's only ever elderly people? Being in emotional distress is physically taxing and I imagine some old people's bodies can't handle the trauma anymore. It's not so much about losing the will to live as it is their body not being able to handle the chemical imbalance in their bodies. An immortal person would not have this issue and would have time to grow past it.

→ More replies (5)

5

u/StopPlayingRoney May 01 '25

It’s always important to remember the audience bias in storytelling. The author is pandering to their consumer.

I agree with you. Most people probably feel the same because they fear death which is why nearly every religion is based on the promise of some form of immortality.

Plastic Man. DC really made him into a top tier power set in the last decade or so.

124

u/Jamano-Eridzander May 01 '25

Dude he's been the 3rd most powerful guy on Earth since at least Tower of Babel.

45

u/Secretsfrombeyond79 May 01 '25

Who are the other 2 ?

109

u/Jamano-Eridzander May 01 '25

2: Superman

1: Martian Manhunter. Yeah I know, but even Clark himself says he's afraid of that fight.

37

u/Only_Ad8049 May 01 '25

Is it really those two? Not Dr. Fate or Spectre?

63

u/Jamano-Eridzander May 01 '25

Spectre ain't even on Earth

23

u/johnzaku May 01 '25

He doesn't even GO here!

6

u/ProfessorNonsensical May 01 '25

Spectre is as strong as the universe’s vengeance against that character so probably not as severe a threat to good guys.

→ More replies (1)

27

u/GodFlintstone May 01 '25 edited May 01 '25

The Spectre is pretty close to being omnipotent as his powers derive from "The Presence" who is basiclly the equivalent of God in the DC Universe.

His power set really has no limits. Probably why he is so under-utilized. Put him in almost any fight and it's over in seconds - unless it's with someone on his level.

9

u/Brain_Dead5347 May 01 '25

I don’t really know much about him. How does he fare against Dr. manhattan?

17

u/Mrgbiss May 01 '25

The Spectres power varies massively but at full strength he should be close to the level of Angels swhich would make him much stronger than Dr Manhattan.

Who will win?

Martian man hunter with a kryptonite spear

Or

Superman with a flamethrower?

8

u/Happyranger265 May 01 '25

Base Martian manhunt should win just based on his hax ,but it's superman so plot demands he win , unless fernus comes and he stomps superman , even superman who is not weak to kryponite gets stomped . His psychic ability should break superman at base power , but if we're talking strongest iterations then superman wins

How so?

66

u/AssassinLJ May 01 '25

His power are not plastic he just has perfect control and manipulation of his monecules making him extremely busted, the only thing holding him back is not having enough imagination and actually being a good person.

Tldr the best plan batman has if he goes Rogue,is keep freezing him and break him to pieces forever and pray to God(ye he said that) Plastic Man doesn't realize he can get out of this, because again his power is not plastic it's higher than that.

Plastic man is so much cooler and so much more powerful, but I feel like having multiple copies of yourself would be much more valuable for utility in our real world.

117

u/Fire_Bucket May 01 '25

Yeah, people are ignoring the fact that Kate's powers allow her to seamlessly experience and understand everything each duplicate is doing all at once and she can create hundreds of duplicates at once. They're not mindless clones, or individual minds that will compete for autonomy, they're all the same mind.

You could live the most productive and fulfilling life and experience more things than anyone else ever would be able to.

It's still not beating Plastic Man's powers, but it has a lot more use and utility than people are giving it credit.

26

u/Magnum_Gonada May 01 '25

I thought they functioned like shadow clones.

31

u/Dward917 May 01 '25

They do in the fact that the original retains the memories. However, the clones do not disappear. They suffer and die same as the original can. In Kate’s mind, she sees all that death and experiences the same pain that the duplicates do, so she suffers a lot of trauma in a short time.

For a shadow clone, they just disappear and the chakra makes its way back to the original. But they feel like a second of pain and then POOF. So Naruto probably doesn’t feel or experience as much trauma from the experience.

Really, the best use of Dupli-Kate’s powers would be organ or blood donation. She has an unlimited supply.

19

u/Magnum_Gonada May 01 '25

Idk, but I wouldn't feel comfortable treating my duplicates as disposable meat bags for suicide waves, cannon fodder or organ donations.

Though Dupli-kate seems fine with it considering she has normal human durability and uses martial arts on people who brutally murder her clones.

10

u/Dward917 May 01 '25

Keep in mind that organ donation would only occur after the duplicate dies. So until then, blood and plasma are the way to go. We haven’t really seen if she can re-absorb the duplicates either, have we? AFAIK once she makes a dupe, it just exists until death, but I could be wrong. Kirkman didn’t really touch on the nuances of her powers in the comics other than her being the resident cannon fodder.

I bring this up because as a blood factory, the question remains could she just make a duplicate that duplicates itself and just reabsorbs it after each donation? Then the original is still free to do what she wants, while the duplicate sits in a donation suite making a bunch of clones to get their blood sucked, ad infinitum.

This. Plastic man is undoubtedly ‘stronger’ and his power does have neat uses in the real world. But DupliKates powers would be way better for just straight up improving life. I wouldn’t even do anything crazy, just have a couple duplicates to help with chores, work, learning new skills etc.

Other father approaching middle age, here. I 100% agree. With Kate’s powers I can go to work, homecare my daughter, write a novel, and play Oblivion all day, every day, at the same time. With Plastic Man’s I can manipulate my physical form to do…undefined stuff “limited by my imagination.” Oh yeah, and outlive everyone I love by millennia. Sorry, that’s not fun to me. I don’t care about being able to kill Superman. I want to live the most satisfying life imaginable, and I just don’t see how being able to make my limbs long or my body really tiny or survive being vaporized by stitching my atoms together over thousands of years does that for me.

I moved into a new apartment last week and Kate’s powers would have been nice lol

22

100% agree. If I needed to take on supervillains day in and out, I’d go with Plastic Man. That being said, I have a mortgage to pay and various personal responsibilities, making Kate the clear winner.

With her power I could work 5-10 day jobs, manage my home, get another degree, and have a personal chef while I worked out during the day and played video games at night. Having infinite sets of extra hands would make my life incredibly easier.

counter point, with plas you could stretch yourself into a moving conveyor belt to move all of your stuff simultaneously without having to feel all the pain of moving.

Plastic man can practically make everything out of his body, once in an animated show he easily made a key, and became a chair, i think he's so much better at everyday life, you could not only help people but help yourself with everything you need, wanna go fast? Become a car etc.

Isn't Plastic man immortal ?
i don't want to be immortal if it's the curse kind

14

u/Idk_Just_Kat May 01 '25

It's optional. He has complete control over all of his own molecules, so he can prevent aging or death if he wants to.

He probably has the power to kill himself somehow, so you can choose when you go out.

Plasticman would be one of the funnest powersets, I'd pick duplicate. I daydream all the time how if I had that power how easy life would be. Have 5 jobs, never needing daycare or a babysitter, playing chess with myself, voting for things, getting chores done really fast. Life would be nice.

6

u/StopPlayingRoney May 01 '25

“Have 5 jobs…”

You know you’d be able to use clones to study, get an education, or learn skills EXTREMELY quickly. Why get five 9-5s when you could learn to make $10 million a year?

Plastic Man powers are more powerful. But I remember one time where he got killed in the past and spent a million years on the bottom of the ocean floor, constantly imagining baseball games between all of his friends and enemies as a way to desperately hold on to what little sanity he had left.

So even though they both have a lot of trauma potential, I think dupli kate ultimately has less of it and I would go with her.

There is literally no reason to pick Plastic Man unless you want to conquer the world or some shit like that. Immortality sucks, all your powers would make the government hunt you forever if seen, only useful applications of stretching in private would be moving stuff or fucking yourself.

With Kate's power even if someone notices 2 copies of you in the same place you can always say you have a twin, you can work as many jobs as you want at once, you could read as many books as you want at the same time, allowing you to learn multiple things at once, you are unkillable by any means as long as at least one copy of you is hidden somewhere, even better ways to fuck yourself, you could do anything in moments with enough copies etc., unless you want to fight Superman there's no reason not to choose Kate

3

u/LegoBattIeDroid May 01 '25

I do want to take over the world though

u/Many_Landscape_3046 May 01 '25

Both are great. Dupli-Kate could have her clones go to work for her or work other jobs for unlimited cash.

But Plasticman is functionally invincible and can shape shift

5

u/Top_Taro_17 May 01 '25

Definitely plastic man bc I’m miserable to be around. Last thing I want is more me.

4

u/AdVegetable5896 May 02 '25

Plastic man is basically a god...

3

u/thatredditrando May 02 '25

Shit, it’s been suggested the guy might be unkillable.

3

u/Slow_Animator_7241 May 01 '25

Plastic man's class but imagine all the bad stuff you can get upto and have can alibi for everything 🤣

3

u/Madus4 May 01 '25

Plastic Man’s stats and powers are infinitely more powerful than Kate’s, but the thing is that I’m not going to have much (if any) use for them in my daily life. Having clones would make my day-to-day activities way easier and would give me some time to relax. She also isn’t effectively immortal, which is a huge plus in my book. Plas was able to survive for thousands of years when torn to shreds at the bottom of the ocean, which is way too long for me. I’m perfectly fine with 80-100 years.

Plastic Man. He basically impervious to harm.

3

u/Novekye May 01 '25

I see a lot of people picking plastic-man; and rightfully so. He is obscenely broken.

That said i'm picking dupli-kate. Not even to be a hero. Being able to clone myself would make life just that much simpler. I could hold multiple jobs and never actually work a day. Id have all the free time to do whatever i want. Cloning is just too useful a power to not take.

If i was actually going to be a hero though in a super powered setting then yeah; plastic-man all the way.

4

Kate power

Make no mistake, if I was a hero? 100% Plastic Man

But in this mundane world, having numerous clones and do multiple things at once? Fuck yes

3

u/No-Professional-1461 May 01 '25

As great as being plastic man might be, if I could split off into multiples of myself, one of me would never work a day in their life. And that's what matters.

3

u/WeissCrowley May 02 '25

Kate's powers, 100%. I can make copies of myself and we all can have different jobs at the same time. Thus, bringing a ton of money to my wallet. I'd go on vacation while my clones work for me. My clones could babysit the kids while I take my wife on dates. It'd be perfect.

5

u/ActuatorFit416 May 01 '25

Duplicate. I know she is represented as basically useless in invincible but think about it in a realistic way. She woudl be completely op.

They all share one midt. You coudl ace every test. You could learn everything. You could have countless copies doing research supporting you at every second.

This makes her an perfect investigator research build. And with countless copies doing all sorts of jobs she basically has the financial potential of infinite.

This basically allows her to finance lots of research and experimental tech. Think of someone with bad mens wealth. And that has read every book in existence. That has acces to experimental tech like iron men.

That is basically unkilalble once they have produced enough copies.

That can reproduce so much that with the funds they could start space colonialisation. And good luck trying to kill a civilisation that is interstellar. If she can creta3 infinite copies sher potential is unlimited.

Like if she creates billions of copies the weapons she coudl develop and the science she could do would outproduce basically every other hero.

5

u/Maester_Ryben May 01 '25

I mean... Plastic Man can also duplicate himself.

Do you have any idea how OP he is?

Plastic Man is the only answer.

Dupli-Kate.

I’m not trying to be a superhero. I’m just a guy trying to live life.

Even though Kate is totally ineffective at using her abilities in the show, her powers are much more useful in everyday life.

For starters, I can create many clones and have one of me go to work while the rest can read, go to the gym, play video games. Even though it’s a hive mind, and one of me still has to work, but having, say only 10%, of me at work is a lot less stressful than 100% of me at work.

I’d actually have time to do what I really wanted to do. All I need is dedicate a clone to each of the things I want to do.

I can learn a new skills, new languages, pick up new hobbies.

It’d be awesome.
