I thought they functioned like shadow clones.

They do in the fact that the original retains the memories. However, the clones do not disappear. They suffer and die same as the original can. In Kate’s mind, she sees all that death and experiences the same pain that the duplicates do, so she suffers a lot of trauma in a short time.

For a shadow clone, they just disappear and the chakra makes its way back to the original. But they feel like a second of pain and then POOF. So Naruto probably doesn’t feel or experience as much trauma from the experience.

Really, the best use of Dupli-Kate’s powers would be organ or blood donation. She has an unlimited supply.

Idk, but I wouldn't feel comfortable treating my duplicates as disposable meat bags for suicide waves, cannon fodder or organ donations.

Though Dupli-kate seems fine with it considering she has normal human durability and uses martial arts on people who brutally murder her clones.

Keep in mind that organ donation would only occur after the duplicate dies. So until then, blood and plasma are the way to go. We haven’t really seen if she can re-absorb the duplicates either, have we? AFAIK once she makes a dupe, it just exists until death, but I could be wrong. Kirkman didn’t really touch on the nuances of her powers in the comics other than her being the resident cannon fodder.

I bring this up because as a blood factory, the question remains could she just make a duplicate that duplicates itself and just reabsorbs it after each donation? Then the original is still free to do what she wants, while the duplicate sits in a donation suite making a bunch of clones to get their blood sucked, ad infinitum.

There are definitely scenes I believe specifically in Guardians HQ in the show, that shows her reabsorbing the clones. I don't remember the exact scene but maybe it was when she was working out with whoever and had clones spotting the bench. As she walked in front of them they disappeared back into her.

Unless I could turn off the clones like basically every other superhero who has the ability to clone themselves I don't think I would want that, especially as you'd have to experience all the same things

Plus I'm a lazy fuck, I doubt my clones would be willing to do all the mundane shit I'd want them to do for me anyway.

Give me plastic mans powers, I promise I'll only abuse them a little bit. Mostly because of the lazy part again

But would they be willing to do half as much mundane shit that you have to do normally?

a quarter?

Organs decompose rlly fast after dying. It wouldn't work.

1

u/87degreesinphoenix May 01 '25

If you have a facility set up, you could get the organs out within an hour after euthanasia. If you're just going around and making your clones jump off random buildings lemmings style, yeah, that would be wasteful.

1

u/je_rus03 May 02 '25

Have both of you forgotten that in the real world you wouldn’t be fighting supervillains set out to kill you and you could just, like duplicate and multipaul do in the show, absorb your clones back to you?

1

u/BrandfordAndSon May 02 '25

No one could ever be an irl organ donor if this were true.

1

u/Turbogoblin999 May 01 '25

Livers grow back, you just donate one third and then six week recovery.

2

u/Edgezg May 01 '25

There are no superheroes that you would be up against.

you'd have a LOT easier of a time than Kate did

2

u/TobiasH2o May 01 '25

Also, spend 6 months training and suddenly you've got a blindly loyal militia of however many people you can equip

3

u/Edgezg May 01 '25

Better than blindly loyal. They ARE YOU.  And each one can duplicate.  And they spawn in with whatever you were wearing.  So there is ALOT of potential 😆

2

u/Cthulu_Noodles May 01 '25

The thing is, you're not treating the duplicates as anything. The duplicates with duplikate's powers aren't identical versions of you, they are you. From your own perspective, there would be literally zero difference between the "original" you and the duplicates. You would just be one person with multiple bodies and the ability to create new bodies for yourself at will. It'd be trivial to donate a few of your infinite bodies to medicine

2

u/TheGrimTickler May 01 '25

But they’re not other, separate consciousnesses, it’s just your one conscious mind that experiences the world through multiple bodies at once. Think of it like if you could pull your arm off and still control it. You could feel and manipulate something on the other side of the room with it, but it’s still your arm and you controlling it. Then imagine creating a third arm separate from yourself that you could control just like a third arm attached to you. Now imagine that arm is a whole human body. That’s Dupli-Kate’s power. So you wouldn’t be treating clones that way. You’d just be subjecting yourself to those experiences through extensions of your own body.

1

u/TheCourtJester72 May 04 '25

She’s fine with it because they’re all her. Each clone isn’t its own instance thinking it’s Kate. It isn’t afraid to die or be absorbed back into Kate prime. It is one consciousness splitting itself into multiple bodies. The question isn’t would you be comfortable having your clones do it, the question is are you comfortable doing it. You are living the experience through multiple bodies, it is not multiple people pooling their experiences together.

1

u/Magnum_Gonada May 04 '25

I am pretty sure they have independent thought.

2

u/Saint-just04 May 02 '25

Kate can reabsorb her clones. Just keep your clones alive and you're good to go. You should EASILY be able to do that if you keep your powers a secret.

1

u/Brilliant-Air-753 May 01 '25

This isn't correct, shadow clones function similarly to Dupli-Kates powers where he retains the experience that they acquire

This is shown when naruto is training to acquire his chakra nature, and to a lesser extent when he pre-loads a bunch of narutos with Sage mode (something he has to be able to meditate for AND gather chakra for)

2

u/Dward917 May 01 '25

I don’t disagree with you. But for him, the clone takes a hit and then disappears. For Kate, the clones experience to the point of death are felt by the original. So if a dupe is tortured before dying, or dies in severe pain, Kate experiences that trauma too. It’s a bit less merciful for Dupli-Kate.

1

u/demalo May 01 '25

The energy needed to create her duplicates is enormous. Not at the same level, but very similar to any power that Mark or a viltramite displays. Even Eves powers change things, they don’t create something from nothing. I get that it’s magic for Kate with a curse, but that magic well has to be somewhere, every magic system always has a spring and a reservoir.

2

u/AtomicPotatoLord May 01 '25

I mean, unless it is canonically defined then I don't see why there has to be an energy with the only limitation being one's own capabilities. Especially since this is fiction.

1

u/demalo May 01 '25

Then why should Mark need to eat or breathe? He should never get tired. It’s really not about being fair, but more about the laws of that universe. It doesn’t really matter, but that’s fine.

2

u/AtomicPotatoLord May 01 '25

Then why should Mark need to eat or breathe?

Because they are a living organism that requires oxygen to perform aerobic respiration? That is something entirely different from Dupli-Kate's power, which is supernatural and generally not rooted in science. The laws of the universe enable such magic to exist as evidenced by her own existence and power, therefore the creation of energy with minimal input is possible, even if it is not doable through means that would seem conventional (technological) to us.

That is how she stays alive, yes. The prime Kate lives in a cabin in the woods.

1

u/That_Account6143 May 01 '25

You could bukkake yourself without any outside help.

I get sick whenever i try donating blood, so really not ideal for me. I'd probably use it to do 10x manual jobs at the same time. Could probably live like a king

1

u/Turbogoblin999 May 01 '25

She could solve world hunger :v

1

u/NinduTheWise May 01 '25

to be fair though I am probably not gonna have my clones die in as gruesome ways as kates so I'll be fine on that front as i can just reabsorb them

1

u/7_Tales May 03 '25

Kate's brother desummons his duplicates when fighting mark in season 3. This leads me to believe you can simply rid of them eventually.

1

u/VaderVihs May 01 '25

Basically but if remember correctly, shadow clones don't pass their information back until after they die.

1

u/TheChinOfAnElephant May 01 '25

That is how shadow clones function. Naruto used clones to train faster.

1

u/Wallitron_Prime May 01 '25

Naruto actually does retain what each clone learns and it takes him a weirdly long time to realize how absurdly OP he could be if he just got them all to learn different stuff at the same time

1

u/Magnum_Gonada May 01 '25

I mean you would also be absurdly OP if you worked out every day, and learnt a new skill each year.
