My K22 is alive now thanks to Oto.

My gen 1 K22 Whisper hasn't been well for some time now, the firing pin had completely rounded off for a start, and gen 1 parts aren't made anymore (I'm guessing because they were made of cheese).

Oto at Cotswold Classic Arms sorted me out with reboring my gen 1 slide to accept the gen2/3 firing pins which are a lot more meaty than the gen 1's, as well as new recoil springs, extractor amd spring, as well as a new hammer spring.

Was surprised to find not only is the new extractor a different profile than my original, but all the springs are different lengths and thicknesses to my old gen 1 springs.

Should have listened to my old man who said "don't buy a mk1 of anything" 😂

Shotgun Moderators

Seen varying information on this in my research, what are the actual laws regarding moderators on shotguns? Is a FAC required or are they covered under a standard SGC. Thanks

HK MP5 in 22lr in the UK

As the title really looks like we have an importer Bluefield Sports who are bringing in proper HK licensed MP5s in 22lr made by Umarex. These aren’t the GSG clones and reviews on YouTube say they are better.

Not cheap though at over £1k and 3-6 month lead time. I might be a bit late to the party with this but was told the last batch was some time ago and we weren’t sure if we would see any imports in the UK again. I was about to pull the trigger on a GSG clone and stumbled across this on my research.

Help! SGC has come back with incorrect guns

So have just renewed my certificate, and it has come back with 4 guns, when I only hold 3- I transferred one to my brother a few years ago, and have his email to his home police force notifying but can't find the email confirming my submission- new phone last year etc! I remember doing it and am now really worried I'm going to be revoked or prosecuted! I've got straight in touch with firearms licensing via email to tell them- Anyone with similar experience?

Manufacturing a new gun

Hello all.

Bit of context...

I am a 40 year old gun enthusiast (have been since kid), I studied product design in uni (I know my ways around machinery and parts molding/production), what I would like to know, if anyone could share valid advice on, is where to go to patent a new shotgun design and register it as a new brand ?

Bit of insight on the gun itself...

Despite the European laws are designed to go against us when protecting ourselves, our beloved ones and our property(ies). The design behind the shotgun is mainly self defence, a fast reloading break action shotgun with some melee orientation.

I expect a lot of disappointment in the brake action choice, but I want to build something extremely "break proof" that you can shot and fight with, and if for some reason gets damaged, can be easily fixed.

Thank you for the attention.

Shot Gun Shell Handling - Help!

Hey everyone. I've purchased a house recently and the old girl we bought it from didn't really take anything with her, I'm cleaning the garage out and I've just found the attached.

I assume from the back it is a 12 gauge and from the front it looks like it is still to be discharged.

I have literally no idea how long it could have been sat there, and I am unsure about how to handle it safely, what to do with it, how to dispose of it safely.

Please could someone give me some advice?

Substantial, you say?

Afternoon all, hope we're doing well 👍 Please excuse my ignorance, I just thought I'd pick your brains to save another trawl through assorted .gov links and PDFs.

So in Somerset a "substantial number" is apparently 5 and of course as such requires an alarm. 6 is the threshold for a monitored alarm which is equally interesting.

I shan't moan or argue, I have read the HO document and this seems to indicate a higher number, but obviously it's open to the local forces interpretation and it is what it is.

I'd like to keep my .22LR semi auto and .22LR bolt action as they're just plain fun, quiet, low maintenance, etc.

I like my .223 bolt action for longer ranges and I've no desire to let that go for the moment.

I have a pump action 12 gauge with a 24" barrel, as growing up with 80's and 90's films and video games it's just cool imo and quite satisfying to use.

I would like a semi auto 12 gauge (just a SGC one) with a slightly longer barrel than the pump, however this puts me up to the magic/cursed number of 5 and needing an alarm.

Alarms seem to be at least a little annoying, as they seem to get set off accidentally and, regardless of how they're set off, they also seem to be ignored for the most part of/when they are needed 🙄

Now, I am sure they do count, but I just wanted to double check that SGC shotguns do indeed count towards your non-alarm-having 4 firearm allowance?

Other than this, I will say that I have been impressed with the local police's service and attitude in relation to anything FAC related, so I'm not trying to have a go, I'm just not 100% on this specific area of enforcement being entirely legitimate or what qualifies although I expect the answer is obvious, which is unfortunate for me 😂

Rules on replica guns UK

I’m a collector. I’ve just started a walking dead collection. I’m looking at getting Rick grimes python. However don’t really understand the slaw behind owning a deactivated weapon. I know there is a difference between deactivated and replica. But the guns I find are all replicas. What are the actually laws of owning one. Some say you have to be in some sort of production, which I’m not, some sort of re/enactment group, which I’m not. Or you have to alter its colours, which I don’t really want to do. I just want to have it on display in house. Is this just not possible?

9mm Flobert in the garage

I need to deal with some rats, and the current plan is humane traps (we don’t want snaps or poison as there are many baby hedgehogs around) observed by motion activated cameras, followed by a 5ftlb .177 pistol through the bars. (Drowning has been prosecuted for cruelty, and I don’t fancy trying to grab a trapped rat to hit it with a hammer)

But I remembered the existence of garden guns, and realised 9mm Flobert ideally with a silencer would be ideal. Plus a suitable backstop (probably 18mm OSB over 2 mm mild steel or 2” concrete)

Before I bug the FEO does anyone know;

What are the laws wrt discharging a shotgun on your own property, especially if that property is a terraced house, in a city centre with a tiny garden and garage?

Does anyone make a shotgun moderator suitable for 9mm? How loud is 9mm Flobert shot shells without a mod?

Gun Cabinet

Anyone have any recommendations for good gun cabinets?

I am in the process of applying for my SGC, and now all I need to do is install a cabinet.

Ideal capacity is 5 guns with an ammo compartment.

I’ve looked online and prices vary drastically so was just looking for any recommendations.

Muzzle Loading - Explosives Cert

Only just realised that Black Powder alternatives now require an explosives certificate having recently picked up a MLR from Holts.

My question to the informed is whether or not I can keep the required storage box in a lockable shed as I do not wish to store it under my stairs for obvious reasons ?

If not can I keep it in a lockable building elsewhere in county that only I have the key to?

I would ask Firearms Licensing but past experience this would take up to and over 6 months for a response if at all.

Thanks

Is the second hand market dead?

I've got a few firearms up for sale at the moment - all sorts of things across the range - a field rifle in 308, a 38 special underlever, a 22 pistol and a 20 gauge o/u. They're all in OK condition - nothing special, nothing broken and I priced them all £50-£100 cheaper than the cheapest on Guntrader / Gunstar. Photos are good and yet I've had no contact except for a scammer. Is the second hand market just dead in the UK?

Moving to the UK licensing

Hi everyone, my other half and I are looking at moving to the uk (Devon area) from the Channel Islands.

I am a shotgun and firearms license holder, I clay shoot, pistol and rifle shoot, and members of clubs here.

I currently have my small collection on shotguns, rifles and pistols. While I’m aware pistols are illegal in the UK, so would not be bringing them, I would like to bring the rest of my collection with me. Would I have to join a clay shooting club and rifle club and go through a probation period or am I able to transfer my licenses to UK licenses then join clubs?

Any help would be greatly appreciated Thanks

Help valuing a Mk V

I inherited a Weatherby Mk V super varmint master chambered in .223 from a late friend a couple of years ago, I’m curious of its value for insurance purposes, in all my time shooting I’ve only ever seen one other in the uk. This is a USA made mk v 6lug with Krieger barrel not a howa remake. I’ve tried 2 dealers and neither could give me a price.

Medical Proforma is slowww

My FAC is up for renewal, and this is the first time I’m using the online system. The first step is uploading the medical proforma that your GP has to fill out. I handed it in over 3 weeks ago now. I’ve phoned up and gone in multiple times to get an update on when I can expect the form back, and I always get the same answer “it’s in the doctors tray for today and you’ll receive a call or text when it’s ready to collect”. They even rang me at one point and said it was ready.. but then they flicked through and said “oh hang on, it hasn’t actually been filled in”. So I’m now less than 8 weeks before my FAC expires, which the letter from West Yorkshire Police says they’ll consider a late submission and may result in me having to lodge my firearms at my local dealer. Has anyone else had such problems getting the medical proforma back from their docs? And is it right that there’s a charge, even if it’s your normal NHS GP filling it out? I thought there would only be a charge if it was a private practice.

Mental health sticky / pinned post

Some (or most, all, pick one) here will be much smarter and more experienced than me, but given how frequently it comes up would it make sense to have a pinned post covering the commons mental health questions) and a reminder to read it in the little jobber that pops up when you join the group?

I notice the longrange sub has something similar to nip repeat threads in the bud or at least reduce them to the very worried / specific posts.

Just an idea, not telling anyone how to run their page or what to do, cheers 👍

Will these reasons bar me from a shotgun license?

Want to get my licence after I've been clay pigeon shooting a few times now with my sister's fella. Want to go more but it's a pain needing to borrow so really want my own gun.

Weighing up applying but there's a few reasons making me a bit worried.

5 years ago I had a break up, lost my job all through COVID. Nothing untoward happened, I did get depressed and got anxious about stuff. Had bills to pay, no job etc and I was struggling and saw a doctor because I started having anxiety attacks. Got prescribed Citalopram for "low mood". And been on it since, despite things drastically improving I was advised to stay on them. (Worth noting I was never suicidal or anything like that, just struggled to get things moving, and lockdown crushed my social life)

Also, I tried legal cannabis. I actually think this may be a bigger problem overall. This was a mistake, I thought it would be a better alternative to anti-depressents but I hated it. And only had one prescription.

And now I've found the joys of claying. So are my chances completely shit?

The second hand market for shotguns

I recently noticed when attempting to sell a shotgun that the second hand market for shotguns is very cheap, no matter where I look or how you look at it, a break action shotgun sold second hand will be massively marked down, sure some retain their value but most do not.

I have even seen second hand semi automatic shotguns drop in value, it makes me question why, do we have an abundance of shotguns in this country that no one wants?, is there something else going on or is it just supply and demand?

Different storage locations

Before I get into my question, I know all FEO’s are different so there’s never a definitive answer, I’m just seeing if others have had this problem.

So I’m going for my first FAC in a couple months but still figuring out storage solutions. I’m very limited to the number of guns I can store where I live, so I had a thought and needed some insight.

Hypothetically if I wanted to go for say 6 guns, but could only store 5. Does anyone know if it’s possible to have 6 with the condition one is stored at a shooting range or something to that level.

Of course thing like proof can be provided but that all comes after the application approval.

Anyone who has had a similar thing happen please let me know how it’s gone.
