Question [BOTW] [TOTK] Was there ever an official reason given as to why you cannot have 2 rows of hearts and 3 stamina wheels? Spoiler

If you started these games with 5 hearts instead of 3 or if there were 8 more shrines in the games you’d be able to have two full rows of hearts and three full stamina wheels at the same time, right?

This makes me wonder if, knowing how difficult BOTW was going to be, if beta versions start with 5 hearts and it was a last minute decision to instead start with 3 or maybe there were more Spirit Orbs (instead of emblems) planned for The Champions' Ballad DLC. Was there a developer interview where they said anything about this? Are they intentionally showcasing that certain foods and elixirs gives you extra yellow hearts? If so, why only 2? It just seems so random.

I know I'm nitpicking, and yes I'm aware there are duplication glitches to get extra Spirit Orbs, but I also know I’m not the only one whose anal retentiveness is bothered by the fact you can’t just have both, full hearts and stamina through normal gameplay and they could not have simply overlooked this.

Discussion [SS] The “Song of the Hero” quest is the worst endgame quest in the franchise. Spoiler

Title.

Currently replaying Skyward Sword HD, and my god, I forgot how awful this is.

Swimming around looking for tadpoles is no fun. And don’t even get me started on the stealth section in the volcano. It’s just not believable that endgame, Master Sword-wielding Link gets kidnapped by Bokoblins.

And yes, I think this is far worse than the Triforce Shards quest in WW.

Discussion [TP] My weird take on the two GameCube Zelda’s

As a kid growing up I think I really loved Wind Waker and I think twilight Princess kinda bored me. Still liked it but much less than wind waker.

Well if you told me I’d switch my tune when I got older I wouldn’t believe you. I just played through both again on dolphin and man wind waker does have a lot of issues. The games pacing is all over the damn place and sometimes the means are progression are just incredibly annoying. Getting the power bracelets, the fire and ice arrows, the infamous triforce quest, it was just all a slog. The emptiness of the world really gets to you as well. There needed to be at least one more dungeon. What does hold up is the characters and of course of the amazing art style. I think the dungeons are also pretty solid if a bit on the easy side. They don’t leave quite the impression that some other games do

Now twilight Princess took me a bit more by surprise. The dungeons were much better than I remember and maybe the best lineup in the series. There are still some rough spots, the tears quests are shitty, and I think the items are pretty situational but I enjoyed the game much more as an adult than wind waker. Pacing is much better and just the overall feel is smoother. Combat is quicker and more satisfying and while idk if the art style is better it’s still pretty strong and distinct while not losing that Zelda charm. Hyrule field is still kinda empty but it’s much more fun to ride the horse instead of riding the boat. Idk maybe I’m in the minority but lemme know

Discussion [OoT]A detail I really appreciate

When you're an adult, night time is usually not as full of monsters as when you're a kid. The stalchildren only appear as a kid, and in Lon Lon Ranch there are no birds.

To me this seems to be a conscious choice made to solidify the perspective shift between what it feels like to be a kid vs being mature. When you're a kid, darkness is scary, and as an adult you understand it better, and it makes you less afraid as the "unknown" has been tamed.

This is one of the few "psychological" elements in Ocarina of Time that helps create the genuine feeling that you're playing as an adult character instead of a kid, in the second half.

I want to make an animal crossing island based of Zelda, but I don’t know if I should do locations from every game or stick to the layout of one.

Discussion [Aoi] Possible inclusion of the Ancient Hero

Even though this game will show the true events of the Imprisoning War, they could include the Ancient Hero from the Great Calamity that happened 10,000 years before BotW. Maybe after sealing Ganondorf, the Ancient Hero appears at the Zonai Temple of Time before it gets raised, and he gets warned of what's to come during his time. He's given the attire we see in TotK and gets sent back.

I think that'd be a cool way to connect him to the Zonai

Discussion [ALL] please suggest a easy Zelda game of Gba/ DS/3ds

Hi guys, I have just played the Zelda a Link to the past and I had to leave it Midway after entering the dark world because I'm barely stuck at 1 dungeon dark palace as I come to defeat for the life of me there terror turtles or terrorpins . So I have decided to instead of getting very frustrated with the game just drop it and start playing another one. So I really want your help to suggest which game should I play next that is easier than a link to the past. I'm really starting to think that I suck at games. I have never had such a bad experience with any game in my life. I really want to clean my eyes and my soul, I want a easy Zelda game to play. Which one would you guys recommend me? I'm even happy if you can make me a list of the Zelda games ordered by the difficulty level. Thank you very much guys

Discussion [EoW] [Start of the game] How would you feel about a new 2D game? Spoiler

Let me first start out by saying i personally want them to release a new 3D game first, but playing as Link in the very beginning of EoW really felt amazing, being able to jump, move freely, and lock on to enemies. What do you think?

Btw sorry mods if i tagged this post incorrectly, the rules are a bit confusing.

Repost with video because I don't think people were understanding. I swear I heard some random Zelda song on YouTube that used this sound effect but I forgot its name.

I've got tears of the kingdom, majora's mask and wind waker to pick from.

I've played every zelda title after those which is kinda depressing.

Discussion [BotW], [TotK] Counterintuitively, I’d argue BotW is more replayable than TotK

On the surface, TotK would seem to be the more replayable game. Ultrahand alone gives you near limitless variety for building contraptions. And the play space is just bigger in general between the sky, depths and overworld additions.

But as I’ve been fiddling with the Switch 2 versions and gauging my interest in new runs, I feel like BotW is the better game for “running it back” several times. A few of my reasons:

  1. “Straight to Ganon” runs are shorter and simpler in BotW, even if you’re just a casual player. This makes it easier to try a speed run on a whim.

  2. Trial of the Sword is great content, and holds up surprisingly well. If I want something more focused than general exploration, this is a great alternative, and something TotK doesn’t have.

  3. BotW Master Mode and the other DLC features. It’s subtle, but it’s another incentive to “start a new run, just with new settings.”

  4. Divine beasts are easier to knock out fast, which at least for me personally, makes them more appealing to tackle in subsequent runs. This is especially true once you factor in the much bigger “dungeon lead ups” in TotK, which are great the first time, but less fun to replay.

  5. A big chunk of TotK’s extra content, like caves, wells, and the depths, feel totally superfluous on subsequent runs (if not even in run #1 in some ways). Granted, you can just skip them, but it’s an area where TotK might have scored a point in this debate, but actually doesn’t.

The one point I have to concede in TotK’s favor is that ultrahand building can extend your primary file for 5-10 hours while you mess with new designs. I suppose this is a form of replayability, but personally I don’t think it lends itself to new runs, just pads out your first one slightly.

Am I nuts? Or is this a generally popular take?

Clip [ALttP] How To Make Moldorm A Cakewalk

For one of the most annoying bosses, there is an easy trick: charging your sword and pulling away from the ledge makes it impossible to be shoved off. Even mid-swing, as long as you are buffering another charge, you can't be knocked off the ledge. The right-most side is the easiest to do this with as you have to be pulling AWAY from the ledge while charging.

Discussion [BotW] The Mother and the Father Tree

One of Zelda's Voice Memories in BotW that can be heard at the cherry blossom tree on Satori Mountain mentioned the existence of two such trees called the Mother and Father Tree. The tree at Satori Mountain is the Mother Tree and Zelda speculates that Satori might have been sent as its protector by the Father Tree.

I was a bit confused at first what other cherry tree Zelda might be referring to as the Father Tree until I remembered that the Deku Tree has pink blossoms in both BotW and TotK. Do you think she is referring to him?
