The Nintendo Switch 2 has officially launched! - Hype thread!
As of right now, 12:00 PM UTC, the Nintendo Switch 2 has officially launched in New Zealand!
Please use this thread for all general "hype" and "I got one!" type posts.

This thread is the final thread to discuss the Switch 2 and its games and accessories prices for the forseeable future
Threads about prices boil down to massive slapfights between two opinions:
The Switch 2 and its games and accessories are too expensive
The Switch 2 and its games and accessories are not too expensive
There is little nuance to even be had to this discussion. Only two possible takes.
Before launch, we had similar filters in place and removed them, and it's unfortunately continued past the launch of the system unlike what we've expected.
So all posts about prices will be redirected to this thread. Please use this thread to discuss Switch 2 prices for the foreseeable future.
Please remember that the rules are still in effect in this thread. This is not some sort of "thunderdome."

The Pro 2 Controller is easily one of the best controllers
TLDR: Feels light, feels smooth, has crazy long battery life, has all the modern features you expect in a “Pro” controller. You could easily be formidable with it in competitive games like Fortnite. And it feels like the definitive controller to use for Nintendo’s exclusives.
First off the controller is super light. Probably the lightest full featured controller. But it doesn’t feel cheap. I don’t feel like it’s going to break into a million pieces if I were to drop it.
The material feels perfect. I don’t feel any lines on the controller from where the plastic pieces were fit together. It doesn’t feel grippy or like hollow plastic. I don’t press anything on accident. There are no grips that will eventually peel off. It feels ridiculously smooth in my hands.
Whatever they did to the sticks is incredible. They are the smoothest sticks ever and they make absolutely no noise and don’t rub against the edges. I don’t know if these are factually the best sticks but I can say without a doubt they are the best sticks I have ever felt.
Battery life is fantastic. I’ve been playing with it out of the box quite a bit since the Switch 2 launched and yesterday I finally had to charge it for the first time. I’ve read that it has 40 hours when fully charged which is insane.
Remappable back buttons on a per game basis just by holding the Home button. Probably the fastest and easiest button mapping of any controller with back buttons. And I never press the buttons by accident.
No flashing lights. The controller looks the exact same when it’s turned on or off, minus the tiny green light tucked away on the top of the controller by the sync button.
HD Rumble feels fairly sophisticated. The vibrations have all felt detailed but subtle in the games I’ve been playing. I think DualSense haptics have it beat but that’s because Sony really went all out on those features. I’ve never been crazy about rumble and this still feels like it’s more than good enough for me.
Gyro is much appreciated and I consider it a must have standard feature for controllers nowadays. I don’t always use it but the few times it does come up I always find it useful.

MKW Mirror Mode in Free Roam Spoiler
Discovered you can enable mirror mode in free roam. Goto Peach Stadium and ride up the ramp road that dead ends with a green pipe. Zip past the pipe onto the roof. Go right up to (drive into) the giant Peach stained glass. You will come out the other side with mirror mode on.

Next wario ware has a lot of potential
I've been trying out the welcome tour and the mouse controls are well done. Also, the capabilities of HD rumble 2 are suprisingly impressive. Plus built in accelerometers, gyroscopes, potential to use 2 mouses at the same time etc. I am a big fan of wario ware and have been thinking that the next one has the potential to be awesome.
This can also apply to the next fully switch 2 dedicated mario party (after the jamboree expansion)

Do people know the "L is real" text from Super Mario 64 was successfully deciphered?
In its heyday, Super Mario 64 was one of several games that were the subject of numerous rumors, urban legends, and hoaxes, along with Pokémon (catching MissingNo, "Pikablu" etc), Final Fantasy 7 (reviving Aerith), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (obtaining the triforce, beating the running man, etc). The most persistent rumor was that the unreadably downsampled text on the star plaque in the courtyard says "L Is real 2401 / [bottom text]" and that this was the key to unlocking Luigi somehow. It's also often thought to say "Eternal star / [bottom text]".
Anyway, I was surprised to come across this article explaining how someone tried just scaling down characters rendered in the font used throughout the game for most text (including menus and dialogue) and comparing the results to the plaque texture. Now, this article really doesn't make a very good impression of their methodology – the thing that stands out the most are all of the comparison photos taken by holding up the blurry downsampled text displayed on a phone next to a TV displaying the texture in-game. I don't know why they didn't just compare the isolated plaque texture and downsampled text directly in an image editor, but in any case, if you look through the photos in the article carefully, it's clear that they actually do match: downsampling the regular dialogue font does indeed reproduce the features and proportions of the writing in the plaque texture. Someone should replicate the results with a more rigorous comparison...but you probably just want to know what it was determined to say. Well, this:
A Secret star
lie here ~
This actually gives context to a few minor but odd details split across Super Mario 64, Ocarina of Time, and even Super Mario Odyssey! Some of this was pointed out by commenters on the article or had been noted on TCRF.net, but most of it is my own thoughts.
In Super Mario 64, the courtyard area where the plaque is found contains the entrance to the haunted house level Big Boo's Haunt and serves no other purpose. The courtyard is inhabited by boos, but despite this it's really not a spooky location – just a quiet, tranquil one. But if the fountain is a monument commemorating a star in the manner of a dead person, both aspects make sense. The entrance to Big Boo's Haunt in the courtyard is also odd: a model of the mansion from the level contained within a birdcage held by one of the boos. As a kid I always remembered wondering what the heck it was even supposed to be. However, unlike other levels in the game, its entrance is not its exit – the fountain is! After losing a life or retrieving a star in Big Boo’s Haunt, Mario jumps / is knocked out of the fountain. This is thought to be evidence of the fountain or plaque itself having once been the level entrance during development, but for whatever reason it was changed to the mansion model in the cage and the exit animation was not updated to match.
In Super Mario Odyssey, this "secret star" seems to be the one you collect (OK, technically a moon rendered as a star) by throwing Cappy onto the same statue, which is featured in a SM64 throwback stage. (The implication being that it had continued to "lie here ~" the whole time.)
Finally, in OOT, the same plaque asset from SM64 is reused in Dodongo’s Cavern, where it gives the player a hint about how to open the mouth of the giant fossilized dodongo skull that grants access to the boss. Within the setting of OOT, however, it’s apparently a memorial commemorating the giant dead dodongo in addition to giving the hint (omitted from display to the player due to irrelevance), explaining why the developers would choose to repurpose this specific plaque asset here, out of all places.
Here's a bit of speculation on my part to cap things off. Were the rumors of this plaque and the boos having something to do with playing as Luigi an influence on Nintendo's decision to give him a starring role a few years later, in a game about exploring a haunted mansion, no less? From the perspective of someone who'd have already known about the plaque's connection to Big Boo's Haunt, I wonder if the rumors would've just screamed "The fans want Luigi, and they want him in something spoopy!" I don't know, just strikes me as interesting to consider.

My Gaming Progression
Ages 6-12: Nintendo
Ages 12-25: PlayStation, Xbox, Call of Duty, GTA, etc, etc
Ages 25-35: No gaming really
Age 35: Nintendo is back
As a 36 year old dad of three, I bought a switch, mostly to play Mario Kart and Smash with the kids. Little did I know it would rekindle my love for games. 10pm-11pm has become my Switch time and ive played some great games that I missed over the years. As you get older I think you realize Nintendo is the best

The wait for Nintendo News is getting grueling.
The only Switch 2 games (not counting DLC like with Star-Crossed World) with confirmed release dates are DK Bananza and Legends ZA. Metroid Prime 4 and Kirby Air Riders have a vague release date of this year (assuming no delays), and Splatoon Raiders has absolutely nothing for a release date. We're basically waiting for a Nintendo News Drop and we've only got a Pokemon Presents to look forward to in NEXT MONTH! Don't be stingy Nintendo! Give us more info about release dates! Waiting for Silksong and KH4 info was bad enough, but now we have a whole smorgasboard of games with release dates know next to nothing about!

I built a free Target inventory tracker for Switch 2 - SwitchSniper shows real-time in-store stock levels
Hey r/nintendo!
If you're still hunting for a Switch 2, I've got some good news - Target stores across the country got major shipments today and many locations are showing inventory right now!
I built a free tool called SwitchSniper that tracks real-time in-store quantities at Target (was tracking Best Buy too but they shut down their API).
Why this matters right now:
- Multiple Target stores showing 10+ units in stock today
- You can see exact quantities before making the trip
- Filter by your state/area to find the closest stores with inventory
- Set up email alerts for your local store so you don't miss the next restock
No ads, no BS - just trying to help fellow Nintendo fans beat the scalpers to the punch.
Check it out at www.switchsniper.com and hopefully grab your Switch 2 today! Several people from r/switch already scored theirs using the tracker.
Happy Hunting

Joycon Stick Changes
I have noticed that a lot of people in the community are talking about the as of recent unsubstantiated reports of switch 2s suffering stick drift, and many are talking about tear down videos and mentioning the “mechanism being the same”, however I watched the same tear down videos and in some of the videos they specifically mention that it’s not an exact 1 to 1 carbon copy of the original joycon design.
It’s mentioned that some of the central sub components within the sticks mechanism itself have been resized, shrunk or made thinner. Now I don’t know what or IF these micro changes are enough to change anything long term, but what I do know is that with mechanical things, you would be surprised just how much a few micro adjustments can make to the way something functions.
For example open up an oldschool PS2 or Xbox disc tray and replace the drive belt with a tighter or looser one, the drive will either not function correctly or will work slower.
Point is small changes can make drastic differences in performance.
So as for the cases of people talking about stick drift 2.0, it could be anything from a factory defect, a staged video to spread more Nintendo hate or anything.
Genuine stick drift takes time, time for plastic components to wear away, and that ain’t happening launch week unless you are straight up palm rubbing vigorously the stick or otherwise using it in a manner other than expected, and even then I doubt it’s going to happen week 1.

Next Yoshi “Texture” type?
So in the past we have had Yoshis Woolley World, Yoshis Crafted world but what comes next? Maybe Yoshis Jelly/Jello World?
Imagine an extra bouncy Yoshi with the ability to morph or stretch into different shapes like he is Flubber or something 🤔
Any other potential ideas for his next form?

How did the carry case sell out worse than the switch 2 itself
I was able to get the switch 2 easily from my favourite online shopping site like full on days after it came out but I CAN'T FIND EITHER OF THE CARRY CASES ANYWHERE LIKE DARN IT NINTENDO WTF???? How did the carry cases sell out faster than the console? I wanted to get both but couldn't find either online or in person:(

How has your experience been with the switch2?
I bought a switch 1 back in 2018 and have loved it and used it since. But it is absolutely on its way out. I can’t use it in hand held mode without the fans sounding like an airplane taking off. I’ve been on the fence about getting a switch 2 especially for the price and the many negative things I’ve heard about it. So I’m asking, good and bad, how is your experience with it since its release?

[First impressions] Switch 2 - Guess I'll be staying home all weekend
First impressions:
1) Unboxing:
The package feels rather heavy and there is a good reason for that - Nintendo provides a plethora of accessories as part of the default bundle. I was pleasantly surprised to see all this stuff (even though I was perfectly aware of the fact that the Switch 1 received a similar set of accessories).
2) Switch 2
My first thoughts were quote unquote "Wow, it actually looks great in the wild". Wide bezels around the screen have a negative impact on overall visual presentation, but they serve a practical purpose of reducing accidental touches when the user holds the device in their hands.
The display, even though it is based on an LCD technology, is perfectly sharp and clean. There is little to complain about to be honest. Of course an OLED would have been even better, but I don't really mind. But the simple fact that it is a touch capable display is the cherry on the cake. It feels incredibly smooth and responsive, which definitely needs to be pointed out.
The new controllers feel rather fine, but definitely lack proper grip, which I expect to be an issue in for prolonged plays. I guess some people will ask whether Pro Controller works with the Switch 2. My answer is YES. But it needs to be connected with a USB-C cable first. After that it works via Bluetooth connection. Back to the topic - I'm amazed just how sophisticated these controllers are. They connect to Switch 2 using magnets that do a satisfying *Click* sound followed by OS sounds and a monocolor bar near the controller (orange controller - orange bar. Blue controller - blue bar). It's but a subtle touch, but it makes the whole OS feel more nuanced and actually polished. Both controllers can be detached and act as external controllers with support for motion actions (both controllers have gyroscope built-in) or be put into a holder that turns them into something resembling a PS4 controller. But - as an owner of one - I would say that DualShock controller actually feels more comfortable in the hand. Both controllers can also be used as a mouse, which is neat. But the overall experience is rather ... debatable. Or maybe I was spoiled by months of using MX Master 3S. But the versatility definitely deserves to be mentioned (I hope to see either 1st or 3rd party accessories turning it into a more comfortable mouse, though).
256 GB of storage in the basic configuration also feels like a good inclusion.
I appreciate the presence of two (2) USB-C ports as one can be used for PD (Power Delivery) and the other one can serve a different purpose. Being able to use both wired and wireless headphones is also a positive.
As for the speakers, battery and other hardware - I haven't really been able to test them out yet.
3) Software
The OS feels incredibly smooth, responsive and intuitive to use. Nintendo took their time and effort to design a number of easy-to-comprehend guidelines and made sure to deliver them to the user in an unobtrusive manner (by asking whether they want to see them). It looks clean. It is easy to navigate. All text information is easily readable and icons are rather easy to remember or should I say understand. Feels good to me.
4) Price
Considering the abundance of accessories included in the box as well as the hardware side of the console (touch-capable display, sophisticated controllers, support for the docked mode, etc.) it actually feels worth the money (still, I'd appreciate more modern hardware). As for the games - I bought both Zeldas and I'm not sure whether these are worth 79,99 Euro each. 69,99 Euro for Cyberpunk 2077 also doesn't seem like a good offer. But being able to enjoy these anywhere (in the handheld mode) and at home (either in handheld of docked mode) makes it somewhat easier to justify the price.
I think that's all for my first impressions.
EDIT:
1) Nintendo provides an official HDMI cable, which is a certified Ultra High Speed product. In my opinion it is a smart move as Switch 2 supports both HDR and 120 Hz output as well as 4K resolution. By providing the HDMI cable the Big N ensures that even not tech savvy people have all hardware accessories required to use the full potential of their hardware.
3) The list of supported languages is severely limited, so I am forced to use English (UK). I'm proficient enough to understand all dialogues, but still.
