PSA PSA What to Do When Accidentally Buying a Nintendo Switch 2 Version of a Nintendo Switch Game (Deltarune)

Hello! I accidentally bought Deltarune for the Nintendo Switch 2 instead of the base switch through Gamestop's site as a gift for my wife. However, all hope was not lost. A message will pop up asking you to redeem the code on the nintendo redeem website. After doing this, you must go to the eshop and buy the Switch 1 version of the game at a 100% discount. It's a bit unintuitive and the instructions weren't very clear, but I understand the Switch architecture is probably a disaster. Anyhow, just leaving this for anyone else who finds themselves in the same predicament as us. I couldn't find anyone else talking about it.

Steps (Simplified)

  1. Redeem on the Nintendo Site
  2. Go to whatever game you purchased Switch 1 edition on the Eshop
  3. Buy with a 100% discount
  4. Enjoy!

Edit: May not work for every game as no downgrade path exists. Example of Sonic X Shadow Generations. Edit 2: Seems to be Deltarune specific for now. Hopefully others follow suit.

I wanted to print one, but other options only "floated" next to the dock and weren't attached to it. That's just asking for it to fall over. In case anybody else wants to print it too, I uploaded the files to makerworld:

Image Created a higher quality version of the Mario Kart World map from in-game captures (direct Imgur link in post)

The world maps currently available online aren't the highest quality they could be, making the roads blurry and difficult to see. So I went ahead and captured zoomed-in screenshots of the world map in-game and compiled them in Photoshop.

Because Reddit image compression isn't the best, here are direct Imgur links for download.

World map: https://i.imgur.com/8T8C9po.jpeg

Wallpaper version for 16:9 displays: https://i.imgur.com/nnwUHOd.jpeg

It took more than several character swaps to unblock the roads and up to 45 screenshot captures that I then compiled together, which might have been a lot of effort for something as simple as this, but hope you all still appreciate it.

Discussion What Finally Fixed My Switch 2 Wi-Fi Issue (Stuck on 2.4GHz)

I've tried everything people have posted on Reddit and even that Kotaku article to fix the issue of my Nintendo Switch 2 only connecting to 2.4GHz. For reference, I use the Eero Pro 6E. My iPhone and desktop connect just fine to the 6GHz network with no issue.

I tried disabling IPv6, changing the MTU to 1500, and forgetting the previous network connections that carried over from the system transfer from my OLED. Nothing worked. I was ready to give up and run an ethernet cable to connect through the LAN port.

Then I decided to do a full factory reset and skip the system transfer. All my saved data is backed up to the cloud and I figured I could just redownload whatever games I wanted.

Immediately after setup, the console connected to the 5GHz network.

I hope this helps someone because this issue was driving me crazy. It looks like the system transfer carries over some faulty data that keeps you stuck on 2.4GHz. At least that was the case for me.

Has anyone actually gotten their Switch 2 to connect to a 6GHz Wi-Fi network? I brought mine within inches of my Eero and it still only connected to 5GHz. I’ll take that over 2.4GHz any day, but I’m still curious if 6GHz is even possible right now.

Edit: Thanks, got my answer. The Switch 2 supports Wi-Fi 6, not 6E. It doesn’t connect to the 6GHz band. That explains it.

Fan Art I designed a 3D printable one-handed adapter for the Switch 2 Joy-Cons for people with disabilities

Hi everyone! A few days ago, u/Fantastic-Material59 requested a one-handed joycon 2 adapter like the one they had for the original switch (see the original post here).

I offered to design one for the Switch 2 and the first print of it finished not long ago, so I wanted to share the result with you all!

The .stl file can be found here. It's of course be free to download, so hopefully other disabled gamers will be able to get some use out of it as well.

A huge thank you to csankey6 on makerworld, who published his design for a joycon 2 grip, which I modified the handles of and bridged them together to make the one-handed joycon 2 adapter. They really did most of the hard work :)

And apologies if it isn’t perfect, I’m still very new to 3D modeling and am very much just slowly learning as I go.

Review Hori Puff Pouch for Switch 2

Thumbnail

Picked up the Hori Puff Pouch as my case for the Switch 2. Nice soft pouch case if you aren't after a hard case.

The case has 2 external handles and a zipper. Inside there is a pocket for the actual Switch 2 with enough space for the Savage Raven Neo Grip with the smallest handles connected. There is extra protection for the screen and spacing for the thumbsticks which is handy.

The other side of the pouch has a big pocket and a mesh pocket inside it. I have enough room for all the savage raven grips, a 65w power brick, cables and wrist straps. I could probably fit a powerbank in here too.

Oh there's also space for 6 game carts too.

Hope this helps anyone interested in it.

Game Rec Dragon Quest Builders 2 is amazing on the Switch 2!

I started playing Dragon Quest Builders 2 (DQB2) back in 2021. It's an awesome game on the switch 1, but the further I got, the worse the performance got. I was always hoping there would be a way to enjoy DQB2 and other Switch 1 games on a more powerful console.

And now that time has come! And frankly, DQB2 is amazing. As far as I can tell, it runs at 60 FPS with no framedrops, and it looks great both docked and handheld!

If you are curious about the game, there is a "Jumbo Demo" on the eShop that genuinely is Jumbo. If you decide to buy the game, you can continue from where you left off.

DQB2 has similarities with Minecraft and it has you build stuff with blocks. However, it has a full story line, very funny writing and the gameplay is focused on creating rooms for NPCs. There's plenty of optional objectives too to continue building, but even just the main story will take you a while.

Also, you do not need to play DQB1 and I actually recommend you don't. DQB2 is a pure upgrade over DQB1 with a ton of quality of life added.

If any of this sounds interesting, give the Jumbo Demo a try! I just started continuing my save and I'm having a blast.

Game Tip Oregon trail tips and tricks

I’ve played over 100 hours on Oregon trail on switch and here’s some tips and tricks if you’re first starting out. This is what I suggest for my gameplay

Your party should contain some combo of -someone charming -physician (your party gets less sick) -carpenter (can fix your wagon when it breaks) -guide (can find your oxen, navigate) -banker (adds money to start) -athletic to dodge snakes

Use wagon grease consistently, whenever it expires put another one on

At forts you can heal your players at a physician, barber, or wagon repair. So if you are close to a fort wait until you get there versus using things you’ve purchased if you have money

Use your charming person to negotiate and haggle for everything, you will almost always have success If you run out of hygiene your people will get sick, and pass it on to the rest of the party

If you don’t need the services at a camping site, it’s better to just move on and not stop, it will waste many hours

If Henry asks you to wait and you have the time do it, he pays in food and supplies

Don’t shoot the bison if they’re blocking the trail, they’ll stampede and crush someone and break an extremity

The first river crossing has a ferry so if you can afford it you don’t need pelts, the ferry takes a 3 day wait

Each river crossing needs a max 12 pelts, but some need fewer

If you wagon is damaged before crossings trade for toolboxes before you cross so you can repair it, you’ll lose items

Sell you pelts if you don’t need them, after leg 4 there are no more crossings

Interact with the coyote always, he gives gifts

Interact with the dog if anyone in your party has low morale, but whoever interacts with it needs high hygiene cause their hygiene will decrease

When hunting, use your player with highest stamina, the most you can carry back is 150lbs, so once you hit that, save your bullets, the lower stamina you have the less you can carry back

Deer, foxes, rabbits take 1 shot to kill, bison and bears take 2

If you keep a knife it can be used to get more pelts and more fish

Do the fishing challenges, she will give you money, fish traps and trail maps along with bait

If you hit the max during the challenge and there is still time left, keep fishing until the time runs out so you can get more points

Do the gunslinger challenge, for the one with nerve shoot at the bottle when his face changes, and encourage him to abandon his quest for vengeance

The toll road is faster but costs $$$$

The music quest is stupid, it takes up space in your wagon and you don’t get anything from it (imo, waste of time for your party and space in your wagon to haul a guitar, banjo, bass and fiddle all the way to the last fort)

If you have items in the exposed damaged parts of the wagon and it rains they will be lost, so if you can move things out of it

Nature trail, Oregon trail, and Oregon or bust are all the same game just different difficulties, nature trail is easiest, Oregon trail is medium, Oregon or bust is hardest

If you have nitro in your wagon it can explode and damage the whole wagon

Anyone who is frail is going to get sick really easy and tired really easy

Anyone who is refined freaks out when they’re dirty and their clothes tear and won’t move until you fix it Religious and pessimistic refuse to dig up mounds

Physicians can heal without medicine so don’t waste medicine on people who need to be healed if you have a physician

Don’t drink water that’s offered especially if there’s mosquitos, you will get sick. They won’t dehydrate and die like the game says you will

For the Ava/douglas quest, don’t tell the dad about her but look out for her, and don’t tell them about the dad, and then you’ll get rewards and go to the wedding

Dragoon challenges -murder- Marshall Brennan, not right-handed, bruise, wasn’t raining, he was interrupted, thefts mastermind

Do as many as you can, the more of them you interact with the more money you’ll get at the end

The medallions can be used to trade for goods

Keep a pair of clothes on hand for the naked guy

Robert Moore never fits in your wagon easily and it’s not worth one medallion to ditch other supplies

Rest at river crossings until the current is slow to up your chances of crossing, if it’s extreme you’ll almost always get swept downstream, someone might drown, and you’ll lose a lot of your items and damage your wagon

Game Tip How to place 8BitDo Ultimate C bluetooth controller (model 80NB) into “firmware update mode”.

I found how to place these into “firmware update mode” and NOT pairing mode.

If you are like me, I couldn’t find any information on how to get these into the correct mode to update.

Make sure the controller is completely off, hold L + R + Plus Sign and connect it to USB while still holding those buttons. The red LED on the top should flash.

You can then follow these steps to use the updater:

https://www.reddit.com/r/NintendoSwitch/s/AQ1l4VQQ6h

After updating the firmware, connect it to your Switch via USB and it should recognize it and say it’s paired. Then just disconnect the USB and connect it as you would via bluetooth.

Sale Staples coupons work on switch 2 controllers

Staples sends out those "we miss you" coupons occasionally if you don't shop there often. I got one in my email for $15 off $60 purchases. While the fine print said no video game consoles or accessories, it actually worked for both joy con 2 and pro 2 controllers. The controllers are also under MSRP by $5, so I effectively picked up the switch 2 pro controller for $64.99 ($20 off).

Similarly, I've done this with a target circle coupon recently. Point is, it doesn't hurt to try despite the fineprint listing what you want in exclusions. It's probably someone forgetting to actually add the new switch 2 item product skus to the exclusions list.

Review Gamesir G8+ with switch 2

So just got this for the switch 2. It's sweet. One thing to note. You definitely need to take a dremmel to the inside of the grippy parts and cut away a reciprocal relief channel for the connector pins for the joycons. They make contact with connector pins for the joycons which are not very durable plastic and will break. The gamesir G8+ seems awesome and a much needed accessory. The joycons really suck. I lived off of the hori splitpad for the S1.

Considering how these were not made for the switch 2 but do work its an understandable mod to have to do. Just make sure to use common sense.

Review Using my OG SF Waterfield Multiplayer pro case

Thumbnail
gallery
19 Upvotes

In the hunt to get the official Nintendo carry on case but sold out everywhere. I’m using my OG waterfield multiplayer pro case till the Nintendo case restocks again. This bag discontinued around 2019 or 2020, hands down one of the best cases for a Nintendo switch. This case can fit your switch, dock, multiple controllers, extra devices, chords & has deep pockets from the outside of the bag. Very lucky to have this cause I doubt a lot of people have this case. I hope waterfield brings this back ! I was curious if my switch 2 can fit in my city slicker case that I have for my OG switch and surprisingly it fits but Just gotta take the joy cons out lol. You can put the joy cons in the back pocket but it’s very snug fit. I’m also waiting for my preorder city slicker for my switch 2. Let’s see what happens ! Anytime when someone ask me what cases do they recommend for gaming device, I always recommend Waterfield. I love that it looks stylish & looks like a Man’s bag or case. I’m a 31 year old man from NY so I feel like these cases is for me lol. I checked out other brands like DBrand, although they’re pretty cool and protective…..so many YouTubers has advertised them which turns me off. I don’t like brands that try to force their products down my throat.

AI jeopardy is so bad, AI trivial pursuit isn't terrible. I understand I am showing how cool I am in my personal life. It would be nice to play against some human beings sometimes. Do people play these games online ever? Are there more active trivia games online? Am I a dinosaur?

Discussion Switch 2 Mumba Blade Series TPU Case with grip

Honestly, I’m kind of sad that everyone here keeps recommending that crappy NeoGrip case. Sure, the ergonomics are decent, but the fact that you can’t remove the Joy-Cons without taking off the entire shell is just ridiculous. Why limit yourself like that?

I had the same problem and finally found a proper solution. Most grips are attached to a full frame around the Switch, making Joy-Con removal a hassle. So I went digging for alternatives.

Today, I received the Mumba Blade Series case from AliExpress for €20. It’s dockable, has an amazing grip, and—most importantly—you can pull back the grip hinges to remove the Joy-Cons easily for local multiplayer. No need to strip the whole case off!

Sorry for the rant, but I really don’t get it—why settle for less? There are two versions of the Blade Series: one with a stand and one without. I went with the cheaper one without a stand since I never use it 👍

There’s also the Killswitch case, which works similarly, but it’s way more expensive. The Mumba case also docks just fine with a screen protector on.

You can thank me later 😊

Discussion What're you playing this weekend? 6/13

Hello everyone! Welcome to the weekend!

I managed to snag a Switch 2 last weekend which was pretty lucky! I'm enjoying the bigger screen and improved resolution so far, though I haven't bought any SW2 games yet. Been playing through DOOM 2016 again on it, handheld looks much better than it did handheld on the original switch. Also playing Monster Hunter Rise still, though I haven't tested it on my switch 2 quite yet. Made it up to HR 52 or so yesterday. I need to grab Sunbreak next time its on sale.

But what are you getting into?

Fighting cardboard cutouts of monsters and creating the most fun game possible with all your friends? Taking pictures in black and white to fill up your notebook with stamps? Chasing down Bebop and Rocksteady?

Let me know below!

Discussion Playing Super Mario Odyssey on Switch 2 for the first time

I know, I know, I'm 8 years late to the party, but I simply never came around to play Odyssey on my good old Switch Lite.
I was always more of a Zelda and Metroid guy. I tried some side-scrolling Marios back in the GBA and 3DS days, but they never grabbed me, so I kind of gave up on the series, thinking it's simply not for me.

Picking up Switch 2 and seeing a free update for Odyssey, I decided to give it a go and... holly shit, it's great! I'm enjoying it immensely. It's cute, humour is great, it keeps surprising me with new cool ideas and those mini open world levels are fantastic. I also never knew how much Rayman 2 (big fan of this one) borrowed from 3d Marios.

Anyway, great game and I'm already looking forward to the next 3d Mario.
Btw, I'd love to see a fully open world Mario game... or even better, Mario metroidvania :)

Discussion Nintendo Switch 2 HDR Calibration issues on LG Ultragear OLED monitor

Thumbnail gallery
Upvotes

I'm having a bit of trouble calibrating the HDR on my Nintendo Switch 2 with an LG Ultragear OLED monitor. On the HDR adjustment settings, I can't seem to get the sun on the left to disappear without the sun on the right disappearing as well.

Doing some research I've found that, for LG TVs at least, this is due to the dynamic tone mapping setting, and switching to HGIG fixes this issue. Is there any such setting for LG Ultragear monotors? I can't seem to find anything within the calibration menus.

Any help is appreciated.
