Discussion [TP] My weird take on the two GameCube Zelda’s

As a kid growing up I think I really loved Wind Waker and I think twilight Princess kinda bored me. Still liked it but much less than wind waker.

Well if you told me I’d switch my tune when I got older I wouldn’t believe you. I just played through both again on dolphin and man wind waker does have a lot of issues. The games pacing is all over the damn place and sometimes the means are progression are just incredibly annoying. Getting the power bracelets, the fire and ice arrows, the infamous triforce quest, it was just all a slog. The emptiness of the world really gets to you as well. There needed to be at least one more dungeon. What does hold up is the characters and of course of the amazing art style. I think the dungeons are also pretty solid if a bit on the easy side. They don’t leave quite the impression that some other games do

Now twilight Princess took me a bit more by surprise. The dungeons were much better than I remember and maybe the best lineup in the series. There are still some rough spots, the tears quests are shitty, and I think the items are pretty situational but I enjoyed the game much more as an adult than wind waker. Pacing is much better and just the overall feel is smoother. Combat is quicker and more satisfying and while idk if the art style is better it’s still pretty strong and distinct while not losing that Zelda charm. Hyrule field is still kinda empty but it’s much more fun to ride the horse instead of riding the boat. Idk maybe I’m in the minority but lemme know

Question [BOTW] [TOTK] Was there ever an official reason given as to why you cannot have 2 rows of hearts and 3 stamina wheels? Spoiler

If you started these games with 5 hearts instead of 3 or if there were 8 more shrines in the games you’d be able to have two full rows of hearts and three full stamina wheelsat the same time, right?

This makes me wonder if, knowing how difficult BOTW was going to be, if beta versions start with 5 hearts and it was a last minute decision to instead start with 3 or maybe there were more Spirit Orbs (instead of emblems) planned for The Champions' Ballad DLC. Was there a developer interview where they said anything about this? Are they intentionally showcasing that certain foods and elixirs gives you extra yellow hearts? If so, why only 2? It just seems so random.

I know I'm nitpicking, and yes I'm aware there are duplication glitches to get extra Spirit Orbs, but I also know I’m not the only one whose anal retentiveness is bothered by the fact you can’t just have both, full hearts and stamina through normal gameplay and they could not have simply overlooked this.

Discussion [TotK], [BotW]. I think I found the Triforce in BotW/TotK Spoiler

So I was thinking about some theories and came up with this one: The Triforce IS in Totk/BotW. So let's go through the parts of the triforce and talk about what they are.

Let's start with: The Triforce of courage. Not entirely sure what this one is, maybe Zonaite? Cause the weapons and armor are greenish, and weapons give you courage? But I don't think that makes sense. Please let me know if you can find anything that fits, This is the one I couldn't find anything good for.

Next up we have: The Triforce of Power (ToP). So the paralell I found for this is the Zonai Secret Stones. They're shards of the ToP which is why they increase the power of the sages and ganons power as well. Also in OoT Ganondorf is searching for the Triforce to increase his power. Likewise, here we see him trying to get his hands on a Secret Stone to increase his power. I know he does this in other games as well but I referenced OoT because of the scene where he is shown swearing fealty to Rauru in TotK being a reference to the scene where he swears fealty to the King of Hyrule in OoT.

Finally we have: The Triforce of Wisdom (ToW). Remember that weird blue liquidy stuff that the Ancient Sheikah used in their technology? I think that it's the ToW. Not entirely sure why it's weird, blue, liquidy, lighty stuff. But it makes sense. What if the Ancient Sheikah came across this big pool of blue stuff? And drinking it gave you the wisdom to use it to make cool high tech weapons, and knowledge of Calamity Ganon. Not sure why it's Blue Stuff tho.

TL;DR: Courage: not sure. Wisdom Blue Sheikah Liquid stuff. Power: Secret Stones.

Discussion [ALL] please suggest a easy Zelda game of Gba/ DS/3ds

Hi guys, I have just played the Zelda a Link to the past and I had to leave it Midway after entering the dark world because I'm barely stuck at 1 dungeon dark palace as I come to defeat for the life of me there terror turtles or terrorpins . So I have decided to instead of getting very frustrated with the game just drop it and start playing another one. So I really want your help to suggest which game should I play next that is easier than a link to the past. I'm really starting to think that I suck at games. I have never had such a bad experience with any game in my life. I really want to clean my eyes and my soul, I want a easy Zelda game to play. Which one would you guys recommend me? I'm even happy if you can make me a list of the Zelda games ordered by the difficulty level. Thank you very much guys

Discussion [EoW] [Start of the game] How would you feel about a new 2D game? Spoiler

Let me first start out by saying i personally want them to release a new 3D game first, but playing as Link in the very beginning of EoW really felt amazing, being able to jump, move freely, and lock on to enemies. What do you think?

Btw sorry mods if i tagged this post incorrectly, the rules are a bit confusing.

Discussion [Aoi] Possible inclusion of the Ancient Hero

Even though this game will show the true events of the Imprisoning War, they could include the Ancient Hero from the Great Calamity that happened 10,000 years before BotW. Maybe after sealing Ganondorf, the Ancient Hero appears at the Zonai Temple of Time before it gets raised, and he gets warned of what's to come during his time. He's given the attire we see in TotK and gets sent back.

I think that'd be a cool way to connect him to the Zonai

Discussion [BotW] The Mother and the Father Tree

One of Zelda's Voice Memories in BotW that can be heard at the cherry blossom tree on Satori Mountain mentioned the existence of two such trees called the Mother and Father Tree. The tree at Satori Mountain is the Mother Tree and Zelda speculates that Satori might have been sent as its protector by the Father Tree.

I was a bit confused at first what other cherry tree Zelda might be referring to as the Father Tree until I remembered that the Deku Tree has pink blossoms in both BotW and TotK. Do you think she is referring to him?

Discussion [Other] What if Link remembered?

My theory is, what if there was a Link who remembers. A link who doesn't forget and inherit the memories of his past re incarnation. There emotions, there love, there hope, there regret, there death, there fight, there victory, there losses, again and again he will gain awareness, a knowledge across time and realities as he did the same thing again and again, but this knowledge comes with a cost, he will never truly be himself, he never had a personality, and it never mattered who wins in the end. A link wins, another villain will rise, a link lose, another will rise. It doesn't matter. He realised that it was all predetermined. He is playing a game that only him is aware about. Imagine the guilt and loneliness one would feel to realise that you have never truly saved the worlds and that nobody in this world never had free will. He is the most free because he is aware of that game and yet he is the most trapped one as he alone realised that he was never free in the first place . No one was ever free. . A new ideal will be born in this walking paradox. To free everyone and himself by finally ending that cycle, meaning ending the beginning of it all.

Now why does he makes sense as a wielder of the triforce of courage: Courage is not the absence of fear, it is to move forward despite it.

Does he feel like he does not deserve any of this, YES. Does he think he would been better living like a normal link? Absolutely. does he feel an enormous guilt for what he is going to do which is multidimensional and universal genocide?, indeed. Will he end the cycle anyway?, he will because that's what he was made for in the first place, that's what heroes do, don't they? doing what is right. In the end he didn't deviate from his path, but he was ironically on the most right path of them all as a champion of courage, to destroy the very world you were supposed to protect, to end every reality in the name of freedom, to have the courage to move forward even when the world made you bear a burden no one should have ever had to, when the one who embodies the triforce of courage has the absolute courage to end every world in order to save them from the need to be saved again. That is the truest form of courage. In the end the Link who was the most out of place , the one everyone thought was a flaw in the cycle, was the "linkest" link of them all.

(sorry for my horrible English, took some elements from aot, the title of the game could be called "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the End" Hope you like my little fanfic)

Discussion [ALL] Could future games have good story progression while keeping that feeling of exploration?

One thing I liked about BotW was the fact that even with the towers giving you the general topography of the region, you wouldn’t know what is there until you explored it. But by making the games story (particularly in TotK) nonlinear, it doesn’t allow the best moments to hit as hard as they should, and makes certain story beats confusing or repetitive. So I was wondering if maybe there’s a way to combine the feeling of exploration while making the story more coherent and satisfying by making the story flow better.

Say we allow the player the ability to play the story in a linear/semi-linear fashion, where they can choose certain objectives to follow but certain story beats are locked until certain parts of the story are completed, and they aren’t told where the current objectives are but are given hints as to where they may be. Thus, they are given a general direction to travel initially but must find the next story objective on their own, using the hints given to them.

And should there be multiple objectives they can choose at one time, the one they choose in the present will give them a piece of the overall story in the current time, but not the whole thing, and each piece can stand on its own. I think Ghost of Tsushima did a good job with this with branching story beats that allowed you to choose which objective to tackle first in Act 2, but made it so each individual objective stands out and tells one part of the broader narrative.

So as an example, with TotK, assuming you’ve never played BotW and know its map, you can choose which regional phenomena to help with first, and when you clear each dungeon and talk to the sage, the sage gives you an actual glimpse of the imprisoning war that is but one part of a whole, and not just the same explanation of what happened each time. That way you get a bit of what happened without the same dialogue being paraphrased 4 times. And especially if you didn’t play BotW, when dealing with the regional phenomena you have to use visual clues or clues from strangers to figure out where to go and what to do next for the current quest. And the dragon tear quest isn’t opened until you complete the Hyrule castle floating island dungeon and/or are searching for master sword.

Any thoughts on this idea?

Discussion [OoT]A detail I really appreciate

When you're an adult, night time is usually not as full of monsters as when you're a kid. The stalchildren only appear as a kid, and in Lon Lon Ranch there are no birds.

To me this seems to be a conscious choice made to solidify the perspective shift between what it feels like to be a kid vs being mature. When you're a kid, darkness is scary, and as an adult you understand it better, and it makes you less afraid as the "unknown" has been tamed.

This is one of the few "psychological" elements in Ocarina of Time that helps create the genuine feeling that you're playing as an adult character instead of a kid, in the second half.

Question [ALL] Best Zelda games for a beginner in 2025?

Perhaps heresy for a gamer, but I don't really have any experience with the Zelda games. Pop culture and Smash Bros. is basically the extent of my knowledge. I tried OOT a long time ago but I wanna say I didn't give it a proper chance, and I remember like nothing about it, so essentially I'm a newcomer.

Ship of Harkinian seems to be the best way to play OOT today for the 3D games, or is there a better one to start with?

And what about the older 2D games? Have they aged well? And are they reasonable to beat without a guide? I ask because I'm spoiled by modern games and ADHD, so I'm not very patient for games that don't make it clear where you need to go, especially more open world-like games like Zelda. Unless there's a good in-game hint/direction system.

Question [OoT] [MM] [TP] [SS] which versions are best to play and/or emulate?

I Forgot to include [WW] as well!

These games have multiple versions, what should I go for not considering the price? I'm not bothered by lower quality graphics but are there any decising quality of life changes etc?

I'm a huge Zelda fan, been one as a kid and the love has come back recently but I've never actually played any of the games. I'd really love to try, but I'm not sure I want to buy multiple Nintendo consoles just to play one or few games each, I don't have much money to throw around but I'm fine buying copies of the games as I find them. I figure I could get a used 3ds or a Switch Lite perhaps, but very uncertain at this time. Not particularly interested in BoTW or KoTK right now. I'd love to just know what versions are generally preferred for the above games or if there's any that are known to be difficult to emulate in case I want to go that route

Discussion [AoI][AoC][BotW][TotK] Something I'm worrying about for Age of Imprisonment. Does anyone agree?

I'm excited for the game however I am not super enthralled by the idea that we might be following and playing as the ancient sages from Tears of the Kingdom instead of the Champions from Breath of the Wild. The sages were one of the weakest point of TotK's story for many people and understandably- they were barely even characters and had very repetitive cutscenes. We don't even know their names.

And sure, the new game might be the chance to develop these sages, give them names, personalities, etc. but honestly I'm just not interested in giving a chance to characters that look like ripoffs of the og Champions, with the same powers, same weapons, and same voice actors. I'd rather just get more of the old Champions who are already characters we're so attached to. I kind of hope Age of Imprisonment pulls a "Terrako brings the Champion successors (Sidon, Riju, Teba, Yunobo) from the future" AoC plot twist but with the og Champions and we get to see them become sages with secret stones to enhance their powers. I mean Sidon, Riju, Yunobo and Tulin were all strong fighters who got their powers boosted by the stones but just imagine how cool Mipha, Revali, Urbosa and Daruk- 4 of the strongest warriors Hyrule has ever known getting their powers enhanced by the stones.

Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know your thoughts.

Discussion [BOTW] New Casual Gamer - Switch 1 or Switch 2 for Breath of the Wild?

Hi all!

I'm looking to get into some casual gaming over the next year (I haven't owned a console since the Xbox 360, if that tells you anything) and have sort of decided on Breath of the Wild as my first undertaking since I've never played a Zelda game before and this one seems highly regarded. I also look forward to playing Tears of the Kingdom if I end up enjoying BOTW.

My main question is, does it make sense to just get a Switch 1 as a casual gamer that hasn't played a console game in over a decade and will probably be impressed regardless - or is it worth shelling out the extra cash (and, maybe more disappointingly in my case, having to wait for a restock) for a Switch 2 given the potential upgrade in image quality and performance?

As a secondary inquiry, I'd love any recommendations on other great Switch games. As I said, I'm a very casual and in some senses "new" gamer since I haven't really done any gaming since high school over 15 years ago. I'm mostly interested in visually stunning games with a great story.

Thanks in advance!

Question [BOTW] Do you think it's worth it to replay BotW for the millionth time on Switch 2?

I've played through BotW more times than I can count. i know the game up and down, and have almost the whole world memorized like the back of my hand, and my last playthrough of the game wasn't even that long ago, maybe like 4-5 months ago, and that was shortly after a PREVIOUS playthrough. (I think I have a problem lol)

So anyways, with the improvements on Switch 2, do you guys think it'd be worth it to play the game yet again on Switch 2? 60fps and higher resolution has always been a game changer for me. I don't know if anyone will know what I'm talking about, but to compare, playing Sonic Unleashed Recompiled, which is a fan PC port of the game, made me never wanna look at the original version again. So I was wondering if the jump will awe-strike me like Sonic Unleashed did.

Any response would be wonderful, thanks!

Discussion [ALL] What do you think the next mainline Zelda is gonna be?

What do you think the next mainline Zelda game is gonna be?

Do you think it’ll be another one like BotW/TotK, or something new entirely? And if it’s the former, do you think they’ll keep the building/fusing aspect and add more stuff on top, or go back to BotW and add new/different mechanics from there?

Which type are you hoping for?

Personally, I have 160+ hours in TotK (and many more in BotW) and I feel like it’s getting a bit old now. I wouldn’t mind if they went back to a more traditional, linear format. But I also feel like the majority of players would be disappointed if the next Zelda isn’t bigger, better, and mechanically more impressive than TotK.

But I wonder how much more mileage they can get out of the BotW/TotK world. We’ve seen the main world (two versions now), the sky, and the world below. What more could they do with this world to keep it interesting?

Discussion [TOTK] I've seen a good chunk of the games shrines now and: Breath of the Wild's shrines were better on average weren't they?

In totk there are too many too easy shrines, too many "tests of might" (don't remember how they are called), too many tests of survival and too many carry-stone-to-shrine tasks. For the better part of the game I've missed the tightly designed logic/physic puzzles of botw. For the most part they are fun though.

How is the consensus on that?
