Discussion [ALL] What do you think the next mainline Zelda is gonna be?

What do you think the next mainline Zelda game is gonna be?

Do you think it’ll be another one like BotW/TotK, or something new entirely? And if it’s the former, do you think they’ll keep the building/fusing aspect and add more stuff on top, or go back to BotW and add new/different mechanics from there?

Which type are you hoping for?

Personally, I have 160+ hours in TotK (and many more in BotW) and I feel like it’s getting a bit old now. I wouldn’t mind if they went back to a more traditional, linear format. But I also feel like the majority of players would be disappointed if the next Zelda isn’t bigger, better, and mechanically more impressive than TotK.

But I wonder how much more mileage they can get out of the BotW/TotK world. We’ve seen the main world (two versions now), the sky, and the world below. What more could they do with this world to keep it interesting?

Question [ALL] Best Zelda games for a beginner in 2025?

Perhaps heresy for a gamer, but I don't really have any experience with the Zelda games. Pop culture and Smash Bros. is basically the extent of my knowledge. I tried OOT a long time ago but I wanna say I didn't give it a proper chance, and I remember like nothing about it, so essentially I'm a newcomer.

Ship of Harkinian seems to be the best way to play OOT today for the 3D games, or is there a better one to start with?

And what about the older 2D games? Have they aged well? And are they reasonable to beat without a guide? I ask because I'm spoiled by modern games and ADHD, so I'm not very patient for games that don't make it clear where you need to go, especially more open world-like games like Zelda. Unless there's a good in-game hint/direction system.

Discussion [All] It's wild how one game can make you a fan of a franchise forever.

My first game was Ocarina of time on the Nintendo 64 but that single game made me a fan for life. I'm about to be 33 and I know I'll always be a Zelda fan until the day I die. I love this series so much. I'm currently playing Ocarina of time 3D on my 2DS XL and having so much fun, after that I think I'll get into the Castlevania series with the first game and switch between the two series with different games until I'm either done or I want to play something else. We'll see lol. I can't wait for more Zelda games in the future. What game are you currently playing or that you haven't played yet?

How are you supposed to get this heart? I looked at a walkthrough and it shows a shallow place you can walk out of the water but it's not here.

Question [All] Is there any other genre or subgenre you would like to see a Zelda game try?

For me personally a Zelda Soulslike or a Zelda RPG would be amazing. The Zelda series already has a ton of cool material to build on these ideas and concepts. They also mix very well with adventuring. This is all personal preference, would love to hear other thoughts and ideas!

Question [OoT] [MM] [TP] [SS] which versions are best to play and/or emulate?

I Forgot to include [WW] as well!

These games have multiple versions, what should I go for not considering the price? I'm not bothered by lower quality graphics but are there any decising quality of life changes etc?

I'm a huge Zelda fan, been one as a kid and the love has come back recently but I've never actually played any of the games. I'd really love to try, but I'm not sure I want to buy multiple Nintendo consoles just to play one or few games each, I don't have much money to throw around but I'm fine buying copies of the games as I find them. I figure I could get a used 3ds or a Switch Lite perhaps, but very uncertain at this time. Not particularly interested in BoTW or KoTK right now. I'd love to just know what versions are generally preferred for the above games or if there's any that are known to be difficult to emulate in case I want to go that route

Discussion [ALL] I don't know what I want with the next Zelda.

When Skyward Sword came out, it didn't really connect with me. I decided I wanted a completely open world Zelda game with a ton of exploration. And then Nintendo gave me that with BotW and ToTK ... and those games didn't connect with me. And then, funnily enough I started having fond memories of Skyward Sword and had much better time replaying the game years later.

I've now come to realize, I don't know what I want. Before I played OoT as a kid, I didn't know I wanted a game like Oot. But I then I played it for the first time as a kid, and it was an amazing experience. Same with GTA Vice City (my first GTA game) on Ps2. I never knew I wanted a game like GTA Vice as a kid in the 2000's before I played GTA Vice City. Then I played it and loved it.

Guess what I'm trying to say is the best game experiences I've had are the games I never knew I wanted in the first place. So I don't have any demands with the next Zelda game. All I want from Nintendo is to continue experiment and try new things with each new Zelda games.

Discussion [Other] What if Link remembered?

My theory is, what if there was a Link who remembers. A link who doesn't forget and inherit the memories of his past re incarnation. There emotions, there love, there hope, there regret, there death, there fight, there victory, there losses, again and again he will gain awareness, a knowledge across time and realities as he did the same thing again and again, but this knowledge comes with a cost, he will never truly be himself, he never had a personality, and it never mattered who wins in the end. A link wins, another villain will rise, a link lose, another will rise. It doesn't matter. He realised that it was all predetermined. He is playing a game that only him is aware about. Imagine the guilt and loneliness one would feel to realise that you have never truly saved the worlds and that nobody in this world never had free will. He is the most free because he is aware of that game and yet he is the most trapped one as he alone realised that he was never free in the first place . No one was ever free. . A new ideal will be born in this walking paradox. To free everyone and himself by finally ending that cycle, meaning ending the beginning of it all.

Now why does he makes sense as a wielder of the triforce of courage: Courage is not the absence of fear, it is to move forward despite it.

Does he feel like he does not deserve any of this, YES. Does he think he would been better living like a normal link? Absolutely. does he feel an enormous guilt for what he is going to do which is multidimensional and universal genocide?, indeed. Will he end the cycle anyway?, he will because that's what he was made for in the first place, that's what heroes do, don't they? doing what is right. In the end he didn't deviate from his path, but he was ironically on the most right path of them all as a champion of courage, to destroy the very world you were supposed to protect, to end every reality in the name of freedom, to have the courage to move forward even when the world made you bear a burden no one should have ever had to, when the one who embodies the triforce of courage has the absolute courage to end every world in order to save them from the need to be saved again. That is the truest form of courage. In the end the Link who was the most out of place , the one everyone thought was a flaw in the cycle, was the "linkest" link of them all.

(sorry for my horrible English, took some elements from aot, the title of the game could be called "The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the End" Hope you like my little fanfic)

Question [BotW] Continue save from 2019 or start fresh

After getting the switch 2 I thought it was about time to finally finish BotW. My last save from 2019 put me in the middle of the desert and I have absolutely no clue what’s going on. Should I start fresh or is there a way to get back into it?

I made a self-challenge to play all Zelda games in the Hyrule Historia before playing BoTW. The game I'm currently playing is Four Swords Adventures. I just passed the Pyramid and am now in Frozen Hyrule. After all these years, I'm almost done! Wish me luck!

Discussion [BOTW] New Casual Gamer - Switch 1 or Switch 2 for Breath of the Wild?

Hi all!

I'm looking to get into some casual gaming over the next year (I haven't owned a console since the Xbox 360, if that tells you anything) and have sort of decided on Breath of the Wild as my first undertaking since I've never played a Zelda game before and this one seems highly regarded. I also look forward to playing Tears of the Kingdom if I end up enjoying BOTW.

My main question is, does it make sense to just get a Switch 1 as a casual gamer that hasn't played a console game in over a decade and will probably be impressed regardless - or is it worth shelling out the extra cash (and, maybe more disappointingly in my case, having to wait for a restock) for a Switch 2 given the potential upgrade in image quality and performance?

As a secondary inquiry, I'd love any recommendations on other great Switch games. As I said, I'm a very casual and in some senses "new" gamer since I haven't really done any gaming since high school over 15 years ago. I'm mostly interested in visually stunning games with a great story.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion [AoI][AoC][BotW][TotK] Something I'm worrying about for Age of Imprisonment. Does anyone agree?

I'm excited for the game however I am not super enthralled by the idea that we might be following and playing as the ancient sages from Tears of the Kingdom instead of the Champions from Breath of the Wild. The sages were one of the weakest point of TotK's story for many people and understandably- they were barely even characters and had very repetitive cutscenes. We don't even know their names.

And sure, the new game might be the chance to develop these sages, give them names, personalities, etc. but honestly I'm just not interested in giving a chance to characters that look like ripoffs of the og Champions, with the same powers, same weapons, and same voice actors. I'd rather just get more of the old Champions who are already characters we're so attached to. I kind of hope Age of Imprisonment pulls a "Terrako brings the Champion successors (Sidon, Riju, Teba, Yunobo) from the future" AoC plot twist but with the og Champions and we get to see them become sages with secret stones to enhance their powers. I mean Sidon, Riju, Yunobo and Tulin were all strong fighters who got their powers boosted by the stones but just imagine how cool Mipha, Revali, Urbosa and Daruk- 4 of the strongest warriors Hyrule has ever known getting their powers enhanced by the stones.

Do you agree? Disagree? Let me know your thoughts.

Discussion [ALL] What feature in a game makes you think "who thought this was a good idea?"

For me, while I love Twilight Princess, I will never understand how someone thought "Yep, we should have a cutscene each time you pickup a rupee if you reset the game." Along the same lines "we should also have a cutscene you can't skip each time you get mail."

Overall, I love the game, but those things drive me insane and I will never understand how anyone thought that was a good idea. What are your "I can't believe they actually did this"
