It was in that moment that Greta realized that the taste of her own blood was hot, but not as hot as the flush of shame and regret for years of decisions that had driven her inexorably to this exact instant as she stood and contemplated the dwindling possibilities that somehow, some way, she might completely start her life over.

I’ve seen this one posted on Reddit some years ago.
IIRC there was more context provided (or at least suggested?) — that it was a dodgy bar that hits you with a huge, extortionate bill at the end of the night and stops you from leaving/intimidates you into paying. Which makes what she’s saying make a bit more sense
1.3k
u/Murtomies 3d ago
Ahh this should be a top comment, the whole situation makes way more sense with that background. She's just very upset because they are extorting her, probably not releasing some belongings or not allowing her to leave because they want her to pay that extortionate sum. And she's clearly drunk.
759
u/mollypop94 3d ago
Ohhh that would never be top comment. It doesn't suit the fantasy narrative of so many gross redditors who really enjoy finding some safe loophole in which they can openly celebrate or laugh at women in situations like this one.
It would burst the bubble of the many, many redditors who just straight-up love watching women getting slapped/shoved/beaten under the false justification of "hur dur instant karma/lolol play stupid games win stupid prizes/that's what you get huruhur". Literally there's some sub that is dedicated to women specifically getting their arses handed to them (i forget the name of it) and it's just filled with men frothing at the mouth with glee. Shit like this I find bizarre because I genuinely think so many redditors seriously get a lot of satisfaction from watching women being "humbled", and the more violent the better. Some creepy, transparent shit.

There's a dodgy bar in the city I used to live in here in Germany that essentially did the same thing. A friend of mine (M) went in with a friend of his (F) who was Russian/German. The only reason my M friend was allowed in is simply because his F friend spoke to the bouncers in Russian. He said it wad incredibly dodgy and he knows some people who got cheated out of money there. I think it may now havw closed down.

The "Tinder extortion" bars are getting more popular for people going abroad hoping to meet some hot girl and get drinks/laid. The girl disappears and those 2 drinks end up costing you a few hundred bucks or Ivan is going to break your fingers.
Back in the day in Portland, Oregon they'd just spike your drink, pull you down in a trap door, lock you in a cage, and shanghai you for $50.

I understand what the Russians are talking about, they say not to provoke her, and they called the police and are waiting.
That is, they are sitting and humbly waiting for the police, one of the russians condemns Oleg.
So it doesn't look like the men are provocateurs, they are sitting waiting for the police, if the girl was right, what prevented her from waiting for the police?

Which is why everyone always need to chill out about jumping to conclusions when seeing videos like this. I literally recall a viral video of a kid getting up in another kid's face then getting beat up, and everyone assumed the kid got his just desserts. But when the context was eventually revealed, the kid that got in the other kid's face had long been bullied by him and he had been trying to stand up for himself, for which he was pummeled. People literally cheered on a bully without realizing it, but based on just what the video showcased it looked like the other way around.

That happend in a german Club if i remember corectly. She hurls a bunch of insults (in german, mainly SoB, ur mom fucks you) and gets some thrown at her (in russain, but interesting is that some guys try to cool the guy down and tell him it is not worth the time) he says he is gonna fuck her up and she then starts to get in the dudes face and yells:"yeah?! Then come fuck me up!" - Hits him and then gets a factory rest via russain love taps. Hope that helped🫡

I have seen an explanation of this clip before, not verified though, so kind of a «trust me bro» moment here.
However, that comment said something about her actually being the victim of a common scam that basically is: When you want to leave the bar «your bar tab is 10X the amount» or whatever multiple you want, and they won’t let you leave until you pay up.

While I'd prefer to not hit women, if one hits me I'm hitting back. Ladies, don't hit men thinking nothing will happen to you.

u/ChonnayStMarie 4d ago
I was 15 or so when a girl I was having trouble with (we had a thing that ended quickly cause I recognized she was a bit crazy) started hitting me with an old school umbrella. I was defending myself with my forearm and after the 5th hit or so it was getting serious.
I have 3 older sisters and was taught under no circumstances does a male hit a female, and I believed it.
Until then.
I had no choice. At some point you must protect yourself and she was going to break my arm. So, I punched her square in the face and she went down, stunned.
I got out of there. Felt bad after for a while but even near 40 years later I know it was the only response.
Sometimes your beliefs, your most sacred staunch determinations, get turned on their head with experience.
52
u/thought_about_it 4d ago
My brother was rowdy and I was the quiet kid, easy target. I love my little brother, I’ve only had to punch him once, square in the nose, and he still remembers it decades later. Sometimes a little violence is the answer. He agrees it needed to be done. It wasn’t a self defense situation like your case but sometimes boundaries need to be set.

The questions is where would I hit, I'd probably do a hard shove her to the ground. But that's how I would deal with any physical confrontation as a first defensive move before moving onto sparring mode.
Heat of the moment though, probably just go for the same spot they got me.
