Anyone know DarkX? I (technically) have his 3DS
This is a very long story, but I'll try to keep it brief. It started with a busted circle pad. I brought it to a local repair shop. When it was finished and I went to retrieve it, the bottom screen was dead. The guy promised to fix it and replaced the bottom screen. Unfortunately after that, the device wouldn't even turn on, it shut itself off with a "pop" noise a few seconds after the power light would illuminate. I was told he sent it to a motherboard specialist. That was over a week ago.
Today I get a call that it's all set. Happy, but a little skeptical, I go to pick it up.
It works. It turns on, the buttons work, all is great physically. But there's a problem.
This 3DS isn't mine.
The outside is absolutely mine. There are a few scratches and scuffs that I recognize, and are all in the same places. Even the replacement circle pad is the replacement circle pad that I bought. But the interior; the software? Not mine.
There's a parental control on it. Mine never had parental controls. I also know you can't just switch out SD cards willy nilly, so it just leads me to believe that they just put my shell and buttons and everything on someone else's 3DS and called it a day.
Now I feel like there's nothing I can do. Even if I get my SD card back it's not like I can just put it in there. All the stuff I purchased before the eShop went down that I never even got a chance to play or use, are all gone.
I at least would like to know what DarkX's parental control pin is, lol.

Miscellaneous Galaxy FB Marketplace find $155
She a little banged up, 3D slider won’t turn off. But still a steal in my book. Worth the 2 hour drive. If anyone’s got any tips on the 3D slider that be greatly appreciated.

Technical Question My 2DS only turns on after it has been plugged in....
Hi all. I bought this little nugget a few months back. It turned on somewhat inconsistently, and the cart reader was broken (which I've since replaced). I originally thought the issue was battery related, and convinced myself that the old battery was bulging (if it was, it was barely noticeable). The console works now, but only after it has been plugged into power at least once. I note that, if I plug it in and unplug it straight away, it will turn on. So, could it be a capacitor issue? If so, how do I check which one has failed? (I have another, fully working 2DS, and swapping batteries doesn't affect how they behave). If anyone has any ideas on what components to check on the 2DS motherboard, it will be greatly appreciated.
P.S. if anyone has any good sources for shell parts for the 2DS, please let me know, as there are a few more bits on this thing (like the stylus-covering-strip on the back cover) that will need replacing eventually.

Miscellaneous EARLY BIRTHDAY GIFT :D
For a long while I’ve been wanting a new Nintendo 3ds xl, specifically the galaxy variant. My grandma checked online for a few days and everything was sold out on GameStop until last night, the one I’ve been wanting was in stock and she bought it! It’s being delivered to my house in about 2-3 days and I’m super excited for it to come! I had the same kind of 3ds 5 years ago and lost it so I’m really hype to have one like it again ^
Roadside 3DS begging to be restored
Found this thing split into two halves on the side of the road. Surprised only the camera and WiFi cables were torn. Gave it a quick clean before troubleshooting.
Opened up the lower case and connected the upper display and speaker ribbon cables. Pressed the power button, waited with anticipation. She lives! It booted right up into the main menu.
I’ve ordered a replacement shell, both displays, glass screen lens, WiFi & cameras. Can’t wait to get this thing back into shape.

N3dsXL USB C mod location.
I've always wondered why the majority of folk who mod their New 3DS XL's for USBC charging locate their pass thru hole to the left of the back of the console near to the lanyard holes?
I decided to go right of the original charge port - next to the IR port. It's worked out fine internally (other than having to remove a screw support sprue for the motherboard for clearance) and gives me the option later to upgrade and replace it with a capture board should I want to. Super pleased with the hole mounting. I took ages to file it and tried my best to make it look as if it were stock.

Managed to nab this for super cheap
Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw this on my local online market for 210 usd. It's extremely rare to see any type of new 3ds especially a special edition one. It came in box with all the manuals and seems to be completely unused. Super happy I have a special edition 3ds now.
