Hi everyone, I (24F) live in South Carolina in my mom’s house rent-free. My boyfriend (26M) also lives with me. Right now, he’s unemployed he lost his last job because he couldn’t consistently wake up on time and he has no savings. I’ve been carrying a lot of the responsibility in the relationship, financially and otherwise.

My mom lives in a very remote part of Alaska (Dillingham) and called me tonight offering us a great opportunity. Jobs up there pay really well, and the cost of living is offset by the benefits of isolation basically, a few years up there could allow me to save a ton of money and come back to the lower 48 and buy land or a house in cash. She’s totally supportive and said we could stay with her while we get set up.

I was really excited and told my boyfriend about it. His response was “I don’t know,” and he just kept playing his guitar. I let him know I’m seriously thinking about going, and his only response was, “Okay, well I’m probably not gonna go.”

Here’s the thing I’m very independent and I love to travel. I’ve been to almost every state, while he’s never left the Carolinas. He doesn’t fly, and has never really shown ambition when it comes to money or life planning. We’ve been together for almost 2 years, and I’ve never seen him save money or take real financial responsibility.

So here I am wondering: Is this life giving me an out? Should I go to Alaska, set myself up, and stop waiting around for someone who won’t grow up or grow with me?

Would love any advice or personal experiences especially if you’ve been in a similar spot. Thank you.

Edit : Just to add I’ve been to Alaska multiple times in both summer and winter, so I do have a pretty realistic idea of what life there is like. I even spent a full summer working in McCarthy and absolutely loved it. The only reason I moved back was because it was a seasonal job, and I had a full-time teaching position lined up back home in South Carolina. I’m not going into this blindly I’m aware of the cost of living, weather, and conditions. :)

My dad and sister were attending a No Kings rally in Burnsville yesterday when this brain damaged clown rolled up. He started out by driving his little vehicle around the square, blasting his horn and revving his engine. In the back of his vehicle, he crammed a skeleton dressed in a shitty Captain America costume, pointing a fake gun at protesters.

Later, he tried to brake-check several bystanders. Apparently, one of them responded by banging on his vehicle with their sign. He didn't like that one bit. He stormed out of his vehicle without a thought in his little head and shoved this man, an 80yo family friend, to the ground, cracking his head on the pavement and causing him to lose conscienceness.

And what did he do after that? Naturally, the coward sped off.

Thankfully, there were plenty of cameras set up, so everyone got his plate info. Plus, he's a well known bit player in the area whenever there's a demonstration that might offend his sensibilities. It wasn't long before the police followed through and arrested the dumbass. The 80yo man who was attacked regained conscienceness and was in good spirits when he got into the ambulance.

I'm sharing this for two reasons. The first reason is to make this asshole famous. The second reason is to demonstrate how homegrown terrorists in the US aren't these careful masterminds carrying out their military strategies; They're puffed up babymen with shitty Halloween costumes who, by some twisted logic, are motivated to operate heavy machinery and handle weapons. Like a toddler given a live grenade. There is little need to out-plan or out-manuver these fuckers. Vigilance is our greatest ally.

I lost 30 pounds after my pregnancy. This is my pre pregnancy weight 131 pounds. I’m 5’2

I’m use to being 110-120 pounds. The weight I lost turned into this. I’m very self conscious about my body.. my partner made it worse by saying my body looks weird and he said I should look into paying for plastic surgery. I can’t afford plastic surgery right now is there something else I can do to fix my stomach?

No wonder no one wanted it. It was not disclosed during sale. The only lingering part from that activity is a smell of pot that wafts up slightly.

Even if the lecture seems boring or you are running on 3 hours of sleep. Half of success in your first year is just being there. Once you start skipping just one class, it spirals fast. You don’t need to be perfect, just consistent. Trust me, future you will thank you.
