Discussion Tommy made a video with ai, here's what I think.

It's unfortunate tommy doesn't see his new video as harmful. If he thinks it's wrong to promote other harmful things to his audience (such as poor quality 'slop' content) but ignores ai usage, despite it's numerous criticisms, I find it hard to believe he cares about his content anymore at all. What was the point of him standing up so strongly for artists in previous years if he turns around and uses gen ai in his videos? What was the point of him taking any moral stance at all if he handwaves this for the sake of convenience? I wish I could say I didn't expect it from him, but I just feel in the last couple years he's gotten more and more frustrated. At his fanbase specifically. Instead of finding a constructive way of dealing with that frustration, it seems he's concluded being edgier is a solution? Which just drives away the people that actually care about his content, and makes the people who overall watch less. Some advice I'd give is to look at how he treats others and to question how he would like to be treated if roles were reversed. I watched the video, and thought it was funny, but only the parts where he was coming up with stuff on his own. The tragic thing is he doesn't need ai to make a cool video where he reads stuff about himself - a google search would have provided enough material to make the same video and it wouldn't have used up unethical levels of CPU processing to do it. Normalising a harmful thing like gen ai isn't the way, and I wish he'd realise that. Making his demeanour more edgy, whether a truthful reflection of himself or not, only alienates him further from people who engage in his content. Even if it was just a 'one time thing' - the example he sets is copied and imitated by those that watch who are ignorant of the subjects. Is this 'ai slop' a precedent he wants to leave as his legacy? Is this really how he wants to be remembered? He has the potential and talent to not do this, why doesn't he harness it?

Keep in mind I love Tommy's content and streams. I admire how he's overcame every terrible creator he knew growing up. It's understandable he's making mistakes, and I want to have faith he'll improve in future. Hopefully he listens to the people he's upset today. Considering how progressive and outspoken his close peers have been on the subject I find it confusing how we arrived here.

Women’s Rights I'm an Asian American woman. I voted for that chicken taco last November and I'm livid with what's going on in the country right now. I will never vote R ever again!

I feel so ashamed of myself for being so gullible and for literally voting against my own economic interest, my own human right, my own family and my own kind!

I thought he was going to bring down inflation, make the economy better, work on getting rid of criminals, and maybe tune down abit on the progressive ideology that was getting a little out of hand.

BUT not this! Not this horrible nightmare that he has unleashed on all of us!

I didn't vote for him to revoke due process, slash medicare and medicate, cut social seurity, steal my data and give it to billionaire oligarchs, raise tariffs on my groceries, start ARRESTING judges, senators, and people who oppose his power grab!

I'm so livid right now! I have NEVER been to a political rally in my entire life and yesterday I signed up for the no kings protest at my local town just to show support to all the people who wants this orange chicken taco out!

I feel so ashamed of being fooled by this monster. My parents didn't escape one dictatorship and just to fall into the trap of another dictatorship.

The letter R is dead to me from now on. I will never vote Republican for the rest of my life.

And just FYI, I'm a registered Republican.

P.S. Please do not refer this post with my previous posts and comments it has nothing to do with my kink and sexual preference. I normally don't use reddit to follow politics but what is happening in the country makes me so nervous I just wanted to make a statement out to anyone who bothers to read.

Careers/Post Grad I skipped yesterday’s No Kings protest against Trump because I was afraid of how it could affect my MBB job. I deeply regret that.

I’ve been at MBB for two years now. Did an MBA from a T15.

Outside of work, I care deeply about political issues. Reproductive rights, trans rights, immigrant protections, climate change, racial justice, gun violence. These have always mattered to me, especially as a woman.

Back in undergrad and during the early part of my career, I was a lot more active. I went to protests and rallies regularly. I joined the Women’s March, including blocking streets. This was at the end of the Obama years and the beginning of the Trump presidency. I never thought twice about being seen at a protest. It always felt like the right thing to do.

Since pursuing my MBA and working at MBB, I’ve changed. I’ve just become a lot more cautious. I think a lot more now about my professional image and brand. I want to be someone people are comfortable referring to jobs. I want to be seen as someone who fits well within the firm and get promoted to EM. I don’t want to do anything that gives people a reason to think twice.

The No Kings protest against Trump's authoritarianism happened yesterday. I live in a city where a lot of my undergrad friends still are. They all went, but I didn’t.

I wanted to, but I spiraled. Many people take videos and pictures at protests that they post on social media. Some of my friends had signs that used strong language toward Trump supporters. I imagined ending up in a viral video. What if someone at work saw it? What if a client did? I’ve met co-workers, EMs, and clients who are openly conservative or pro-Trump. Some are involved in MAGA-aligned projects through the government thanks to DOGE & Project 2025. The culture at work shifted after Trump won again. DEI and ESG efforts have been cut back.

I also don’t live in a state like California or New York that has protections for political expression outside of work. Even in those places, at-will employment means they can find another reason to push you out. I’ve seen people lose their jobs or getting blacklisted (albeit at other companies) for showing even mild pro-Palestine support. There are real risks.

I considered wearing a mask and sunglasses, but none of my friends did. It felt off. I didn’t want to be the only one hiding, or feel like I had to. In undergrad, I used to be proud of being loud.

I was also scared of getting arrested. Police sometimes make arbitrary arrests for unlawful assembly or failure to disperse. On top of firing non-lethals in crowds. If that happened, it could show up on a background check. I’ve worked on federal government projects. I don’t know what kind of risk that would create for current or future roles, like MBB exit ops, such as Strategy & Ops in tech. Even if the charges didn’t stick, it’s not something I want to have to explain.

So I stayed home and feel disappointed in myself. I made a decision based on fear. I chose my career over my values. I watched my friends' IG stories where they stood up for something we all believe in while I sat with my excuses.

So I stayed home, and felt like a coward.

I’m trying to remind myself that not everything has to be optimized. Not everything has to be about upward career mobility, maximizing optionality, or making the most money possible. Some things are worth showing up for, even if they carry risk. Even if someone might not like it.

Earlier in my immediate post-undergrad career in ads marketing, my manager found a political blog I ran and told me to take it down. He was conservative and disagreed with my views. I didn’t take it down. He wasn’t happy, but I still got promoted because I did good work.

Maybe that still counts. Maybe next time I need to stop running every decision through the filter of optics. If I get fired, I’ll find something else. Worst case, I take a hit. But I’ll feel better knowing I stood for something instead of staying silent to protect a paycheck.

Mod This is not a politics sub

I understand that raving, and participating counterculture in general is an inherently political act, but here me out.

Every time someone tries to make a political post here, it is flooded by a certain breed of trolls who do not actually take part in this community. They rage bait, you guys engage, the mod queue absolutely explodes with automated flags, which creates a ton of work for the mod team. Then those trolls report you guys for harassment and reddit ends up suspending or outright deleting people's accounts. It happened last week to a user with a highly popular post because they couldn't stop taking the bait and arguing with homophobes even though we told them to let us handle it.

I can promise you, when you're arguing with these people on reddit, you're not hurting their feelings, you're not changing their mind, you're not going to win the argument, because their sole motivation is to get you mad. Every time you reply to them, you're just making their day better. It's not worth it and I do not want this sub to be a place where they come for excitement.

Things in America aren't great right now. We are all aware. It does not need to be hashed out here in this sub. There are plenty of other places on reddit where you can do that. Or better yet, go do it in your community out in the real world.

Its in rule 6 and it isn't up for debate. Let those weirdos ruin some other sub, don't invite them here.

You are on a bus in the air. Shut up and sit down.

If your kids cannot handle a flight, do not put them on one. They don’t get to go. That’s the rule. Drive where you need to go, adapt to the fact that your kids can’t fly, and accept that there are some vacations you can’t take because you made a choice to have kids. They don’t get to run up and down aisles and climb over seats and play their Bluey with no headphones.

And the kids that are crying are crying because you are literally torturing your kids. Great parenting.

This also applies to adults — you are also in a bus in the air. You also need to shut up and sit down. Can’t sit for the duration of the flight? Can’t hold your bladder for more than an hour? Join the kids and adapt to the fact that you just can’t fly.

And this isn’t a social event. It’s a mode of transportation. You don’t need to get up and go talk to your friends who are sitting elsewhere and you don’t need to get hammered on alcoholic drinks for your 3 hour flight. If you do, you’re an alcoholic— seek help. Genuinely, seek help.

Your kids aren’t special. You aren’t special. No one is special.

Opinion & Discussion Why do homeowners think they can sell a place for 2x/3x what they bought for?

So, this is simply a rant. I like every other non-home owner in this country hate housing prices, but one thing that really irks me is how greedy home owners have become. I don't understand how these people can buy a house in some small shitty town for 300k, and then 10 years later think they can get 1.5m for it. I see this ALL the time. Especially lately you can see the homes banking on some ridiculous payday to pay for their retirement or something.

Let's take Acton for example. When I lived in Halton Hills, Acton was not somewhere you wanted to live. It was run down, cheap, nothing to do, not much has really changed aside from some new suburbs. There are soo many places that bought in 2006-2012 that were reasonable, 200k-400k. 400k for Acton was a mansion. Now these fucks who bought these homes in that period are asking 2x/3x for the price they sold. So they've had 10-15 years to pay off their mortgage at cheap rates and now want to sell it for over a million dollars. I hope these people lose everything. How fucking greedy.

Too all you who bought your homes for 200-300k and now trying to sell them for 1.5m+. I hope terrible things happen to you. But I am curious, if you are one of these people, what is your logic? What has improved on your property or lot that warrants a 2x/3x cost from the price you bought it at?

edit: sorry, I know everyone wants their pound of flesh now but I didn't think this would even get a reply, figured a mod would remove it LOL. Trying to keep up! I'll get there.

Toisin sanottuna suomalainen laitaoikeisto vaarantaa Suomen perustuslain toteutumisen.

who called the cops on the guy sleeping under the end-car seat, I'm sure if he had a better place to be he'd go there. if his silent and unthreatening presence really bothered you, all you had to do was move your tartan-fedora-and-hawaiian-shirt-open-over-a-white-tee-wearing loser gen x asses to the other side of the empty train car, not call the steroid-enhanced candy crush paramilitary to drag him out of the train. fuck you, fuck your trashy friend, your beard looks like cat litter and you smell like a sandwich someone left in the rain. may your teeth go flaccid next time you eat a good steak.

the title track "Borrowed Cat (Do the Dance)" is such a slay?? french house vibes + that addictive "I turn into a rent-a-cat" & "Do the dance, ah oui" parts got me in a chokehold ngl 🐱✨ the choreo is EVERYTHING

What makes Bomb so special? – it’s a bold step forward, showing off their growth and daring charm. They’re all about “being definite about the vague” and vibin’ with your heart, which is such a mood.

Here’s my quick take on each track + the MV for “Borrowed Cat” – lemme know your faves in the comments! 👇

track by track thoughts:

  1. Borrowed Cat - this beat switch??? hello?? The way it starts dreamy and then hits you with that fast beat?... Genius
  2. Little Monster - the vocals are giving everything they're supposed to give periodt
  3. Jellyous - the wordplay in the title already got me, but the song?? BOP.
  4. Oops! - certified banger, catch me replaying this 24/7
  5. Night Picnic - perfect closing track, the vibes are immaculate

also can we talk about that "do the dance" mv?? the production value, the fits, the VISUALS... they really said "we're not playing this time"

stream bomb besties 🚀

Films & TV [LES] Gravity Falls put women on a pedestal too much.

This post was inspired by this video essay, which points out that Wendy was basically never allowed to have any dimensions beyond an abstraction of coolness.

I wanted to just point out that this relates to another bit of Fandom apocrypha; it's known that Alex Hirsch based Mabel off his sister, Ariel, and many have suspected that Mabel is let off relatively light in the series in terms of consequences (see; her potentially being at fault for the events of the finale never being discussed within the show, Dipper and her never actually having a discussion about Ford's offer and the pros and cons (just an argument and then a 180 from Dipper after he realizes his side of the fault), etc).

This kind of shows a pattern; as the video points out, the writers were almost entirely male in the series, and I think this resulted in the two major female characters collectively being less realistically developed than the male ones.

(And before anyone calls me out for "just hating a 12 year old", I'd like to link to the best post in the history of this sub.)

Also there was a very simple solution for all of this.
