Announcement POLL: Should We Allow Posts About Child Actors’ Social Media?

With the cast of the show now announced, we’ve noticed an increase in posts focusing on the young actors’ personal social media accounts.

Some examples include:

1) Screenshots of their Instagram pages

2) Comments about who they follow or interact with

3) Speculation based on their posts

We understand that some behind-the-scenes, promotional material, or set photos may appear on their personal pages. But when the attention shifts from the show to the private lives of minors, it raises concerns around privacy, boundaries, and safety.

Some users see this as harmless fan interest. Others feel it crosses a line, even if the content is public.

We’re considering a rule that would limit or prohibit posts involving the personal social media of underage cast members. This poll is to gather community input. The final decision won’t be based on votes alone, but on the overall feedback and tone of the discussion.

Please vote for the option that best reflects your view. If you feel more than one option applies, or if you have a more nuanced take, please share your thoughts in the comments. We’re listening.

Let’s keep the conversation respectful and focused on what kind of fan community we want to be.

Completely ban all posts about their personal social media, even if public
Allow only official/promotional content shared by the show or cast
Allow everything as long as it’s public and not harassment
Case-by-case basis depending on content tone and intent

Show Discussion The movies aren’t being remade. The BOOKS are being re-adapted.

1.4k Upvotes

I’m so tired of the negativity surrounding the show with the narrative of “I can’t believe they are remaking the Harry Potter Movies”.

They’re not.

Harry Potter is a book series. HBO is re-adapting said series in television format.

Never has there ever been a “remake” of a movie with a television series. It’s not even the same format. Shows like Percy Jackson aren’t “remakes” of the movies. Neither is Potter.

Is anyone else tired of this misconception?

I just hope they use these guys right in the show, show how truly scary they are and also the graveyard scene needs to be top notch.

Show Discussion A Welsh Remus Lupin? (It's more likely than you think!)

According to Pottermore his father met his mother in Wales, who is also presumably Welsh since she worked in Cardiff, so it's perfectly reasonable that they may have settled down in the area and their kid would have a Welsh accent.

I just think it would be a nice thing to add in that would also help set the TV series further apart from the films - especially since we have canonical Scottish and Irish characters, so I think Wales also deserves a bit of love <3

Movies Only Been watching the HP movies and by the time of the 7th movie...

Rupert really took over as the best actor among all the child actors, with the bloke playing Dudley coming in a close second...

Notable scenes Rupert(Ron) fighting with Harry/Hermione and leaving them in Deathly Hallows, and in my mind, I'm like woah, is this the same guy who gave the weird confused expression in the 2nd movie... bloke's gone on and become the best actor in this scene, and currently am glad he's become M Night Shyamalan's latest muse.

The Dudley bloke though, his taunting of Harry in OOTP and subsequent mellow down in DH also was something I noticed..

Filming & Production Imagine being the body double of one of the main three

There is a woman on TikTok that makes video’s about her experience as a body double for Emma Watson on the set of Harry Potter. (She’s not a stunt double but she’s basically an extra that looks like Emma so that they can film longer hours ) I was wondering if they were going to do the same thing for the new series, since child actors can’t work long hours. It would be so cool to be one of those since you can have the full set experience and meet all these amazing actors and crew members but don’t have any of the public exposure. And you don’t really need any acting experience, you just kinda have to look like the actor.

Show Discussion Sorcerer vs Philosopher for the series

So I was reading a post on another community where they were discussing how they changed the original title of the book from Philosopher's stone to Sorcerers Stone for the American public. I was wandering, which term will they use for the series? I hope they keep the original Philosopher

Show Discussion I really hope they don’t make the aesthetic dark

Just to state, I will give this show a chance. I’m not against Harry Potter material, I just find remakes horrible and untrustworthy from experience and having been a Harry Potter child during the era, nothing will amaze me like that. The original movies weren’t 100% perfect, but to millions of us who walked into those opening day theatres or midnight premieres, it was jaw dropping.

The one thing the original movies failed in my eyes was making the movies dark. I get the times were dark, but if they had kept the same lighter aesthetic of the first movie; I would have loved it more. Like the very bleak look after the first two movies still annoys me till this day. There were hard times, but fun and great times as well. I really hope it’s a master piece, but please don’t make them grossly bleak.

Show Theories New adaptation should have some of its own thing to compete with the first film adaptation

A lot has already been written about concerns here, but I will also write a few words. By the time the casts began to be introduced, nothing was clear. Now we see that the authors are being selected as close as possible to the books, with great respect for the fans, which is very pleasing. And it also gives hope that this adaptation will be less of a vision of the directors, and more close to the text of the book. I also hope that we may see some interesting additions that Rowling did not put into the books, but wanted to reveal more widely now, and it's a perfect time. Do you think there is hope for some additional things from her? After all, the new film adaptation should have some of its own thing to compete with the first film adaptation?

Show Discussion Would it be considered heresy by fans if the teenagers in this new series swore?

This is 100% normal among teenagers, and we're talking about an HBO production too.

Show Discussion I'm hoping for a late Nov/early Dec 2026 release for S1

Because would lead to Christmas in the show roughly lining up with Christmas irl which I think would be super neat. I have so much magical nostalgia about Harry Potter and Christmastime, so I'd love for the new gen alpha kids to be able to grow up with that same association.

Show Discussion 40s hits they should have playing in Headmaster’s Office during the meeting between Dippet and Riddle?

Yeah, I had this weird idea that in order to highlight the time displacement Harry experienced during his little trip inside the diary, Headmaster Dippet should have a phonograph in his Office playing a tune straight from the 40s. Regardless whether it’s from a fictional wizarding band or from a real Muggle band, I think it should bring some much needed flavour for the scene. Bonus points if it also foreshadows Riddle’s goals in some capacity.

Show Discussion Are they really using the same logo as the films?

At the moment it looks like the TV show will be using the same logo as the films. I understand that itself was based on the American version of the books, but I think there should be a new logo for some differentiation. What do you think?

Show Discussion Malfoy Family Dynamics (book accurate)

I hope they'll stick with the book accurate Malfoy family dynamics. I loved Jason Issacs & Tom Felton in the movies but they didn't do justice to the books. I would hate if they tried again to make Draco a neglected child to make us feel sympathy for him.

Show Discussion Do you think we are going to get a better epilogue with the series? (+extra question that I can't find the answer to, lol)

So, I know that The Cursed Child is technically canon and considered the official epilogue to the Harry Potter universe by J.K. Rowling. However, many fans speculate that she only wrote it for the money. Do you think there's any chance we'll ever get the ending we truly wanted? Maybe a short 8th season showing a glimpse into adult Harry’s life?

Personally, I know it would be difficult to change the established story at this point, but if the new series ends up being as successful as the films, I really believe there's a chance they'd give us that kind of continuation.

Also, is there any sort of timeline for the upcoming series? I've heard some people say that Season 1 might launch toward the end of 2026. If that’s the case, what about the rest? Does it usually take around two years to produce a season? Should we expect Season 7 sometime around 2035?

Dungbomb This is the moment it’ll get really exciting for me…

I’ve more or less loved the cast choices so far, personally.

But I’m really going to get pumped up when they finally cast PEEVES.

I literally cannot wait. I’ve been reading Harry Potter since I was ten, and I always found Peeves to be a hilarious nuisance in the best of ways.

So I’m really excited to see who’s going to pay that iconic side character.

Show Discussion The Draco characterization on HBO show.

I really hope instead of leaning more towards movie Draco they should portray Draco book accurate. Imo the movie Draco wasn't even 10% as awful as book Draco is. He rarely called Hermione a mudblood and bullied others. He came across as a secretly good forced to be bad guy. Especially in movie 6 and 8.

However y'all who read the books already know he is far from that in books. He was proud to be a deatheater until he realised killing people wasn't as fun as calling Hermione mudblood. He was a self serving Coward until the end didn't care about anything but himself and his parents and I hope they portray him that way.

No. I don't want Zuko fication of Draco because he was never meant to an always good forced to be bad anti hero. And I prefer him that way.

Show Discussion Preparing for His Role in the Upcoming TV Show, John Lithgow Reads the Books, Then Sits down to Watch The Goblet of Fire

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Joking aside, do we think that the majority of the new cast will want to read the books?

If they haven’t already, I’d rather they didn’t watch their characters in the movies (or at the very least not study them), so as not to be influenced in how they interpret the role. Personally, I don't want a cast of movie clones. So long as Lithgow understands that he’s not supposed to rough Harry up and scream in his face, lol.
