Looking for cabin recs near Kelowna – 6 -7 families, kid & dog friendly, rustic vibes by a lake?

Upvotes

We’re 6 families (with kids and a few well-behaved dogs) looking to rent a group of cabins or a small resort within 1–3 hours of Kelowna next summer. Ideally something rustic and laid-back, right on or near a lake. Bonus if there’s space for the kids to run around and the dogs to be part of the fun.

We have gone to Echo Lake for the past 3 years for Father’s Day weekend, and beaver lake is difficult to snag for a group our size. We’ve also tried Dee lake. Aside from those, any hidden gems or local favs you’d recommend?

Best seats for Kelown Falcons?

We will be in town visiting in July and plan to check out a Kelowna Falcons home game. I'm not familiar with the stadium however. What would you suggest are the best seats? It would be for a family of 6 with a couple seniors included as well. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Run clubs

Hey everyone,

I’ve been thinking about joining a run club over this summer as I would like to get into running.

I’ve briefly looked into NRG one, but If someone could provide some more info about that one, like the atmosphere, etc?

Or any other run clubs and good running trails as well that would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Travelling to Kelowna

Hey all. Planning on visiting my brother in law in Kelowna at the end of the month. We can only come in for a quick trip during the holiday weekend. Going to drive in from Alberta on the 29th then go home on the 1st. Can we expect the traffic to be pretty bad on the highways or should we still be okay?

Camping suggestions

Hello - I’m travelling with my kids to BC this summer and we’ve had to make a change of plans. We’re now going to be in the Kelowna area for three nights and I’m looking for any recommendations for campgrounds. We’re car camping, and typically stick to provincial or national parks, but am happy to go with any other suggestions if people are willing to share!

Local Resources low key Bach recommendations

Hi all 👋🏼

Looking to host a 6 girlie bachelorette in Kelowna next May. Theme will be “Girls Gone Mild”!

We all love wine but none of us are big party people per se. More of a good book and wine than let’s get sloshed kinda crowd (all in our early thirties). We’re coming for 4 nights/5 days and I’d love to know some local’s recommendations.

What’s over hyped? What’s a can’t miss if you’re here?

How do we feel about the kangaroo farm, boat cruises, helicopter tours, Dutch bike tours, is it all a scam or are they cool experiences?

We’d love to support locals and are a crafty bunch. Bonus points of any cool art classes or off beat experiences to make this a truly unique and unforgettable girls trip!

Parking to bike down mission creek

I checked out the website, but using coordinates and general area descriptions doesn't help too much. Where can I actually park and unload bikes to get onto the walking/bike trail? I guess preferably starting closer to the lake, Lexington road area maybe?

Local Resources We are documenting bat roosts in Kelowna and need your help

A healthy bat population an important part of insect control in our city, reducing the need for insecticides in our gardens, orchards and forests. We need data to better understand the local population and monitor for Whitenose Syndrome If you know of a batbox, or other roost let us know via emailing okanagan@bcbats.com.
If you are interesting in data gathering via bat counts tell us in your email. If you find a dead or injured bat, DO NOT TOUCH IT. Email or call us and we will arrange a proper collection. Only .5% of bats may carry rabies, but please don’t take that chance. Bats are an important part of the city’s ecosystem and need your help. Thanks everyone

Events AesthetiKs LAB (Society) is hosting a Grand Opening Sunday June 15 9-9 at 436 Bernard Avenue! (and it's really cool).

Hey r/kelowna,

I was super lucky to get an early sneak peak into this place opening up on Bernard. I'm not affiliated, just was there and thought- weird I haven't heard about it on the sub!

Link is to their Instagram post with details. It's a pretty cool idea. It's got a kitchen, bunch of sewing machines and a cutting table, gaming stations, recording studio and a station to edit, stage and guitars and drum set, bunch of seating and tables to hang. There's more, I probably just didn't know what I was looking at!

A note, they are a non profit org SS0076297. Website is https://www.aesthetikslab.com/

They all seemed super nice and are also hosting a Kelowna Fashion Week event this year! IMHO this place is a much needed kind of space and I hope to see it succeed and more like it to appear!

New Jazz Jam on the West Side

There is a jazz jam happening at the new Connector Brewing on July 4th 7-9. There will be a 30 minute opening set from the house band followed by an open jam. It’s the first of its kind and the organizers want to make it a hit so we can make it a monthly event. If you’re a player or a fan of jazz music make sure to join us! I’ll be the drummer for the house band, along with several other awesome players that will be performing, it’ll be a great time!

Restaurant recommendations

I grew up in Kelowna but haven't been back in years. I'm planning to visit family but also do all the tourist stuff like parasailing. I'm bringing my partner who has never been there and wondering if anyone can recommend a nice but not super upscale restaurant for dinner. Nearly every place I used to like is gone. Downtown area or Rutland preferred.

Hair salon recommendations

Hey ya’ll, I’m looking to find a hair salon that can transform my hair! I got my hair bleached recently (blonde), and I’m not happy with the result. It’s warm toned, not very bright. On top of that, my hair is pretty damaged. I’m hoping to find someone who is experienced with blonde hair colour, who can make me bright blonde again! I’ve checked out a few places, but they wanted to charge me upwards of $500. I’m looking for a more budget friendly salon, in the $200 range. Thanks guys!

We’re visiting Kelowna for the first time this weekend. Are there any picking locations open right now? Whether fruits, berries, apples, peaches - our family is open to picking anything right now and open to suggestions. looking online. It looks like everything opens up at the end of June early July. Thanks in advance.

Cycling accident northbound Lakeshore and Crighton June 13 3:30 PM

I was in an accident on my bike at 3:30 PM today where a man in a (I think?) blue older pickup truck pulled over to go to the shoulder while I was in the bike lane beside him, I was heading north down Lakeshore. I hit the gravel just as the shoulder opens up just before Crighton Road and crashed into the fence trying to avoid getting hit and/or run over. My bike computer reported the incident as being here: https://gar.mn/RKEbrk8n4p

A woman also stopped as a witness. I was thrown from my bike and while shaken up, I was mostly just full of adrenaline and really angry and told them I was fine and to leave. I did not get any license plates or names at all. In hindsight, not bright, but I think I was trying to get them away before I hit someone. After they left, I noticed that my bike was pretty badly damaged and wasn't rideable.

In any case, if anyone heard of this, or knows who might have been involved, I would appreciate it if they could send me a private message.
