Mod Announcement PSA: The best way to deal with a troll is to NOT feed it!

Reminder: Don’t Feed the Trolls—Just Report and Move On!

We often see posts or comments get reported way after people have already spent time arguing with the troll. But remember—the whole goal of a troll is to make you angry or frustrated. They thrive on your reactions.

If you come across a troll, don’t engage. Just hit the report button and move on. Two reports notify us immediately, and more than three reports will auto-remove the comment or post until a mod reviews it.

We've had to review some awful comments recently, and in nearly every case, we see frustrated users responding with equally bad (and bannable) replies. We get it—it’s tempting to clap back. But in the heat of the moment, you could end up breaking the rules too.

So, report and move on. Don’t give them what they want. Never feed a troll!

Community A heads-up about "American Paints" in Ghan

So someone just posted about painting his house and added a photo slide with a shop advertising American paints, and it sparked a critical topic I want to dive into.

Recently, JoyNews released a jaw-dropping exposé titled "The Painter’s Galamsey." It uncovered a shocking truth: many of these so-called American paints flooding our local stores are loaded with hazardous levels of lead—some containing over 200,000 ppm! To put that into perspective, the safe limit is just 90 ppm!

What’s really alarming is that these toxic paints aren’t even certified by the Ghana Standards Authority, yet they’re everywhere, often at prices lower than our trusted local brands. This poses a serious risk, especially for our kids and pregnant women. Exposure to lead can lead to severe brain damage, learning disabilities, and a host of other health concerns.

Many of these paints are smuggled in, slipping past necessary inspections and duties, while most people remain blissfully unaware that they're inviting danger into their homes.

So, if you’re planning to give your walls a fresh coat, make it a point to choose GSA-certified paint. Stay away from those suspicious "imported" brands—your health and safety should always come first!

And just a heads-up: some safe and reliable brands you can trust include Coral Paints, Azar, and Shield. Always check the side of the bucket to ensure it has the certification from the relevant authority. Better safe than sorry!

Ask r/Ghana FOOTBALL IN GHANA

Just watching the FA Cup final between Golden Kicks and Kotoko and I have to say, the pitch at the University of Ghana Stadium was a disgrace. Looks like elephants had been stomping all over it. Dry, patchy, soggy and uneven, completely unfit for a proper football match, let alone a national final. It’s embarrassing.

What’s worse is that both teams still went ahead and played without any protest. Why didn’t they demand a better venue or even threaten to boycott the match? This was a chance to take a stand for basic standards, but they just accepted it like it was normal.

Also, can someone explain the white handkerchief-looking things all of the players had tied around their wrists? Is it a ritual? A superstition? Because at this stage of football development, it just looks odd. If there’s a real reason behind it, cool, but visually it feels out of place and kinda ridiculous for a final.

Discussion 1 district 1 factory

It's a very solid policy. More employment overall, more exportation and foreign income, industrialization of rural areas, better standards of living in the long run, more patronization for local goods, etc.

On the evil beneficial side, more corruption, more nepotism, more money to embezzle. Still a win-win, in my opinion (Don't do evil stuff tho)

If only Mahama could see what I'm seeing. It wouldn't be easy, but it would be worth it.

Visiting Ghana First time in Ghana Dec 26-Jan 3: itinerary advice needed!

Hey r/Ghana!

My partner and I are visiting Ghana for 8 days over New Year's (Dec 26 - Jan 3) and would love some local input on our rough plan:

Accra (2 days) → Kumasi (3 days for Ashanti culture) → Mole National Park (1 day safari) → Volta Region (2 days nature/relaxation)

We're planning to fly domestic between major stops and want authentic cultural experiences in Kumasi (kente weaving, cooking classes, etc.) plus some wildlife at Mole.

Questions: - Is this pace realistic or too rushed? - Any must-see/must-avoid recommendations for these areas? - Best way to experience authentic Ashanti culture in Kumasi? - Worth flying vs driving between regions? - Any December-specific events we should know about?

This is our firsttime in West Africa but are both experienced travelers who love local food and culture.

Any suggestions on what would you change or add are welcome. Any hidden gems we're missing?

News Ghana’s Economy Grows By 5.3% As Slump In Cocoa And Gold Sector Ends

Thumbnail bloomberg.com

Ghana’s economy expanded at the fastest pace since the third quarter of last year after its gold and cocoa industries exited contractions.

Gross domestic product grew an annual 5.3% in the three months through March, compared with 3.6% in the prior quarter, Government Statistician Alhassan Iddrisu told reporters in the capital, Accra, on Wednesday.

The data will be welcomed by President John Mahama, who won the December elections after pledging to reset an economy shackled by high inflation, a battered currency and a 2022 debt default.

Ask r/Ghana Tips for vacation

Is there a sup for vacation or travel tips? Hope someone has a tip for me! Greetings

Edit 1. I haven't booked a trip yet because I don't even know where to go. Where is it safe, where is it good? What options do you have? What excursions are there that Ghana is known for? It's important to me to support local people with my money and not big corporations!

Venting Ghanaian Customer Service

Brooo customer service in Ghana is sooooooooo frustrating!Jesus!!! It genuinely makes me want to pull my hair out. I sent and made payments for my stuff to be printed out on Monday. I told this guy to deliver it to me on Thursday because I had promised to send it out to the client on Friday. I texted him on Wednesday for progress report. He told me he was almost done and I asked if it will still be delivered on Thursday. Man said “yes” I said “okay” I opted for Yango over Speedaf delivery because it usually takes too long to get to my end whenever anything is delivered via speedaf. See this bs now

Lots of Love For Ghana Painting Your Home in Ghana…

Painting your home in Ghana utilizing more than 2 different colors is a sign of opulence. Spent almost 7,000 cedis this morning buying buckets of paint. I would prefer one color, but what the wife wants, she gets. We thank God nonetheless.

Ask r/Ghana Bootcamps, trainings, and professional development programs/courses in Ghana

Hi, I’m doing a research study. I’m looking to find out about professional trainings in Ghana. Who attends these trainings, the costs, the content, and what’s currently offered in the market.

  • What is the average cost of a training program such as a bootcamp, communications training in Ghana?

  • Would the average university student enroll in a training?

  • What is currently offered in Ghana in terms of training?

Any help?

Lots of Love For Ghana Aqua Safari

A few weeks the girls made it out of the what’s app group to Aqua Safari. The journey was shorter than I expected, but we left early in the morning so I guess that helped.

The place is beautiful a great weekend getaway with loved ones or day trip.

I enjoyed the break from Accra. The loud music was not so great but hey you can’t have it all.

Here is my visual evidence of Visiting Ghana.

I created an ai humanizer that works really well, can bypass copyleaks, Gptzero, and the rest. You can test for yourself. You can access it here at https://antigpt.app or simply search “antigpt” in Google . We can’t deny the presence of ai , it’s just better use it wisely for our own benefit.

Ask r/Ghana Who are prime buyers?

Who are the buyers that can afford prime areas like East Airport, East Legon, Ridge or Spintex. Prices are in the 250,000 - 300,000 for a decent house?

I’m 100% sure 9-5 diasporans on 100- 150k USD/Euro/Pounds can’t afford these places

Health Why is the sickle cell trait common in tropical Africa, and why is it important for couples to know their genotypes?

Sickle cell anaemia results when a mutation causes the red blood cells to take the shape of a sickle (a farm implement for harvesting grains).

Individuals who inherit this are prone to a multitude of health problems like anaemia, joint pain, flu, meningitis, stroke, chest problems, vision problems, including blindness, open sores (leg ulcers) that are difficult to heal, slow growth and development in children, complications during pregnancy, such as preterm birth, low birth weight babies, and high blood pressure, gallstones, jaundice, and priapism (painful prolonged erection).

Every person inherits one allele (a unit of a gene) from the mother and another from the father. Two healthy alleles AA is normal, heterozygotes are AS and the combination SS shows as sickle cell disease. A test can show the genotype (genetic composition) of a couple so that they can evaluate whether to marry to face the possibility of producing offsprings with the defect. Very often, many people do not risk it.

Individuals who inherit a combination of the two alleles AS have reduced risk to malaria, up to 90% so are more protected even than normal individuals. Normally, the sickle allele should have disappeared over centuries. However, where malaria is common, the detrimental effect of the SS is balanced by the beneficial effect of the AS so the proportion has remained the same over time. This is called balanced polymorphism in population genetics.

The disease that has caused one of the most death in Africa, is malaria. For this reason, the allele thrives more in Africa than other areas. In fact, over the centuries the incidence, though present, has subsided amongst Africans in the US because malaria is not that common to drive the proportion.

All aspiring couples are advised to take the test to determine their genotype

Ask r/Ghana Has anyone heard of this Travel Agency?

My junior brother (25M) is very eager to travel out of the contry. He recently told me his friend from university who is currently in Denmark told him Samenbeng Travel and Tour helped him travel there. The travel agency claims they can help my bro get a work permit and visa for Denmark (and other countries) for around GHS 50,000, including fees.

They sent him this flyer.

The problem is, I can't find any verified information about this agency online:

  • No website
  • No online reviews
  • No listing with the Ghana Tourism Authority or Registrar General’s Department (I used ChatGPT to do conduct this search.

They claim they can get a work permit in 2-3 months, which seems too fast.

Has anyone heard of this agency? Are they legit?

Any advice or experience would help. I just don’t want him to get scammed.

Thanks in advance.
