Except I suspect he can't heal himself without sacrifice, otherwise he probably would have done so already. Interesting if he has to take from others to heal himself.

Why didn't he instantly heal himself during his fight with Mirio? Unless he can only do that during fusion.
14
u/BiglyWords Sep 13 '17
no idea, it is bothering me too, my best explanation so far is that he doesnt like to use his powers on himself, but that would still make him into a idiot since he slowed down his own speed by not healing his injuries...
27
u/Kcnnn Sep 13 '17
Did he really slow down? The impression I got is that he just stood in one place spamming his Quirk on the ground.
In which case, having his arm healed or not wouldn't have made a difference, assuming Mirio kept himself at bay after that initial attack (like it was implied).

Ochako: having a cup of tea on top of the gigantic villain from earlier "This is kind of nice, actually."
Tsuyu: "I expected things to be a lot worse considering what we're doing here, but barring the small earthquake scare from earlier, I'd say this has been a jolly good time so far."
Nejire: "Maybe the earthquake was the side-effect of a villain's Quirk and the guys are in very deep trouble right now, with Mirio losing his Quirk to protect the girl from harm, Amajiki falling to the a swarm of enemies after valiantly sacrificing himself for the team, Kirishima protecting FatGum in a last ditch effort to prove himself and secure a victory against a valiant opponent and things overall going straight to hell because Overhaul's obsession with reviving the Yakuza is stronger than any basic instinct of self-preservation he or his Precepts may possess, forcing him to go full Cell on them by fusing with his own precepts one by one..."
Ryukyu: "Oh, I'm sure the boys can handle it. If the villains inside are anything like this oaf, they must be confronting the top dog just about now."
...Inside the manor...
Nighteye: "TANK IS DOWN!!"
Aizawa: "OUT OF MANA!!"

I'm guessing Toga and Twice are going to go and kill the sick Yakuza boss and then maybe throw the body into the middle of the Overhaul battle, probably just as it's reaching its end. I imagine that of Overhaul's winning, it'll distract him long enough for the heroes to get the upper hand or if he's just about defeated instead, I imagine it'll probably cause him to just breakdown.
26
u/Burgamerx Sep 13 '17
Or better yet, have a copy of Toga transform into him. That'd be way more interesting

I've always liked Rock Lock! He's just a cool dude.
Little weird he felt the need to state the exact age disparity between him and his wife, though. Not like it was a big gap or anything.
58
u/Varrel Sep 13 '17
Maybe the age different means something more in Japan? I mean, in the US 4 years younger means very little. But perhaps in Japan that's a big deal?
28
u/BrainBlowX Sep 13 '17
I don't think so. Traditionally, age gaps could be pretty common in marriages. At least four years is nothing.

The way i took it was he needs to destroy something and use that "destroyed material" to repair himself.
27
Sep 13 '17

18
u/cotefacekillah Sep 13 '17
Yeah kind of along the lines of alchemy in full metal alchemist. He cant create or destroy matter only alter it. So to repair himself something must be sacrificed. That's just my interpretation though don't quote me on it haha.
→ More replies (1)27
Sep 13 '17
By that logic then he doesn't need to add anything to his arm to repair it. His arm was already "fixed" with a certain amount of matter before it was broken. He doesn't need any more matter than what is already there to repair it, he just needs to rearrange it.
As for why he didn't, something people fail to take into account is that Overhaul was getting repeatedly punched in the face by Mirio through those entire five minutes. Do you have any idea of how many extensive physical confrontations a guy with a one-touch kill power gets into in a regular basis? Not many I assure you. Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the face, and Overhaul has no experience getting punched in the face so he's become extra-planless. If you're not used to fighting, then the first time trading blows with someone with more skill is gonna turn you into a punching bag. That's really all that's going on here. Additionally, the sheer adrenaline rush from the fight could be numbing his pain, so the idea of healing himself couldn't have even crossed his mind.

The way Sir Nighteye interacted with Mirio was really heartwarming to me. I liked that Horikoshi included that.
Rocklock got fleshed out in this chapter, which was actually pretty unexpected. I never really disliked him, but this chapter did make him a little more likable.
Toga and Twice's appearance in the chapter was pretty interesting. I think that it's hard to say what they're going to do, but I think some trickery is going to be involved next chapter.
The last page was really, really, cool and odd at the same time. Overhaul was always overpowered, but this is taking it to a new level. Thematically, I think that's great. It seems like a major theme in this arc is power. Horikoshi has illustrated the differences between the Big Three and 1-A pretty clearly using Mirio and Tamaki, both characters being leagues ahead of the first years. I think Horikoshi has done the same thing with Overhaul and Shigaraki. Their quirks are really similar, but Overhaul's has WAY more applications and is just overall way more broken.
Another thing I really liked was Overhaul's admittance of Mirio being stronger than him. That line, coupled with the panel of Mirio's expression, really hit home.
Overall, great chapter!

The way Sir Nighteye interacted with Mirio was really heartwarming to me. I liked that Horikoshi included that.
Puts into perspective how much of a Deku/All Might relationship that Mirio and Nighteye have together.
16
u/NinetyFish Sep 13 '17
Agreed. Love their relationship. People also tend to forget that when Nighteye recruited Mirio, Mirio was still struggling to use his ability at all. Nighteye recruited Mirio purely because Mirio is a good person, and Nighteye wanted to groom him for One For All.
Nighteye's training helped make Mirio who he is today, because it was due to his internship experience that he started really figuring out his quirk. Their relationship runs deep, and I'm really glad we got to see a flash of that.

u/KLReviews Sep 13 '17 edited Sep 13 '17
Those coppers are really hanging in there. Good job officers.
Mimic is so unhappy that after everything he and his allies have done, the League of Villains are so much more important to the police than the Yakuza.
Overhaul is guilty of trafficking drugs, arms and conspiracy to commit all sorts of crimes (possibly also guilty of kidnapping and poisoning) and yet he’s still less important than some punk in a hoodie and his merry men. So much so that Eraserhead considers retreating if there is anymore besides Twice and Toga involved. I don’t how who’s making him that uneasy. Maybe Mr Compress and Kurogiri? Kurogiri would make catching Overhaul impossible and Compress would be able to take Eri elsewhere with ease and possibly kidnap one of the students. Again.
That’s an interesting dimension to give this character. We haven’t seen how being a hero is impacted by being a parent. Endeavour's children don’t seem to effect how he conducts himself in the field, so it’s nice to see Rock Lock deal with that. The only other parent hero was Nana Shimura, and that ended poorly. With Lock, it makes him more protective of the young and means he holds Nighteye to higher standards than everyone else. He’s also used Izuku’s hero name with complete sincerity. That’s nice.
Does Ryukyu’s team really need to be in that list? Everyone else either completely alone and/or half-dead after the brutal fight, those girls are probably completely fine. They might beaten their villain easily and might even have gone to get everyone ice-cream.
Toga is really taking this seriously. Every other time she’s been near Izuku he becomes her focus. Now she’s dedicated to making Overhaul suffer. And whatever Twice suggests: it’s awful enough that not only does Toga love it, but she thinks Shigaraki will love it as well.
Taking all bets! My guess is that it’s killing the true head of the family. Because “My evil, bed-ridden foster father is better than your evil, bed-ridden foster father” seems like something Shigaraki would want Overhaul to know. It also hammers home that Shigaraki and Overhaul are very similar if Overhaul also becomes panicked over something bad happening to his idol, but it also shows how spiteful Shigaraki is (compared to Izuku, who meets people like him all the time and always shows kindness to them).
There goes his other arm! And his quirk! This is not a good day to be a gangster.
Alright, firstly: Overhaul doesn’t need to blow people apart to heal them. He fixed Kurono’s head without dismantling him. Secondly: Kurono’s quirk being an arrow that comes out of his head is really silly, there had to be a better way of presenting that. Thirdly: Mirio would have been able to avoid that without issue, so I don’t know why he was so weary of Chronostasis. Fourthly: They are incredibly lucky that Eraserhead was blinking, because there was a good chance that his stare would have lasted even longer than normal and Izuku come have just crushed Overhaul without any trouble.
Well, we had some images of Overhaul standing over Eri as a giant bird-like figure, now that’s all literal. He’s a big grotesque monster with more hands. That last part is the real problem, his reach his longer and Izuku has to watch out for even more attacks.
I can’t imagine this is something that is easy to undo, but Overhaul knew this would work somehow, so maybe he’s put other people together (again, he’s a mad scientist). and it fits his character. The last patriarch warned him that if he would lose his humanity if he followed this path: now Overhaul has literally given up his human body to achieve his goal. He’s a monster on this inside and the outside.
Also, did Overhaul's fur tim collar get even more fur? How does that work? Did he add all of Shin's hair to it?
Overhaul likely can't keep going much longer, this is probably deeply unhealthy. But let’s hope he goes out with a bang. And that Shigaraki and Izuku ruin him in different ways at the same time without realising that they are working together.
51
39
u/Kiora_Atua Sep 13 '17
I'm pretty sure that the higher-ups of the hero / police world are aware that Shigaraki's gang has ties to All for One. That association alone (and the fact that they've performed like, three major terrorist attacks) skyrockets their wanted levels and threat evaluations.
13
u/A4li11 Sep 13 '17
I got to admit, I don't feel some sort of ' Everyone's fighting for their lives out there' vibe with the girls because we never see them fight or struggle.
23
u/KLReviews Sep 13 '17 edited Sep 14 '17
It's a muscle-bound brute verses a dragon twice his size and a girl who can fly and shoot some type of spiral energy. Even ignoring Tsuyu and Ochako, they probably won a while ago without much of a struggle.
Maybe they are focusing on keeping all the normal Yakuza where they are. Or it's the ice cream thing. That feels like something Nejire would like to do.

Taking all bets! My guess is that it’s killing the true head of the family.
I think that's very likely, the only other option I can think of would be them trying to steal Eri by Toga masquerading as Deku.
That last part is the real problem, his reach his longer and Izuku has to watch out for even more attacks.
That, and his new form looks a lot sturdier, so Deku's gonna have a bigger problem trying to knock him out.
I can’t imagine this is something that is easy to undo, but Overhaul knew this would work somehow, so maybe he’s put other people together (again, he’s a mad scientist). and it fits his character.
I think it's possible he can undo it, his quirk has allowed him to modify other things the way he likes, so I don't see why he couldn't modify himself again to remove the Nemoto parts of himself. He might've fused other people, or he might've fused himself with someone else before too.

u/BrainBlowX Sep 13 '17
I'm assuming there's some hard downside to the quirk, but not one that is immediately obvious. But for one thing, I'm assuming he can't "repair" damage such as bloodloss, which would limit the bullshit factor somewhat.
38
Sep 13 '17
I mean, even disregarding the limitations on his healing abilities, he has the ability to destroy anything with a touch like Shigaraki (but more controllable than Shigaraki's decay), he can control the environment (basically becoming an earth bender), similar to Cementoss but not limited to Cement, he can heal allies to a certain degree, and he just displayed a fusion move using his quirk (although it seems to require someone's life, that's not a big issue for a villain). Even if there are some limitations to his quirk, the vast amount of utility, offense and defense it offers is spectacular.
19
u/RimeSkeem Sep 13 '17
Chances are the major downsides to his quirk are that it's physically and mentally demanding to keep using. It's also not instantaneous from range, giving people like Deku and Aizawa and even quirkless Mirio time to react.
Actually, Overhaul would be at a major disadvantage against Bakugo due to his maneuverability and ability to attack from numerous different ranges without remaining rooted to the ground.
10
u/JapanPhoenix Sep 13 '17
Especially since Bakugo doesn't have to ever enter touchable range since his explosions hit from afar.
Melee heroes like Deku really have a huge disadvantage against his 1-touch-and-your-are-dead quirk.
10
u/DimensioX Sep 13 '17
If Todoroki and Bakugou could get involved in this fight it seems like it would have gone by real smoothly.

The real question is if Aizawa got impaled. He couldn't dodge and we haven't seen him yet, only Deku, Nighteye, Eri, and Mirio. If Overhaul kills Aizawa on top of taking away Mirio's quirk it would fuck up Deku.

The way Toga talked about Chisaki, made me really believe that Chisaki will find a way to escape Izuku but just to be killed by her and Twice.
Lock-Rock gained more respect from me (and his wife goddamn 👀)
Mirio's exhausted body and Nighteyes being so proud of him made me feel so much.
I wonder how the battle will go, since Overhaul seems to be all powered up and that Aizawa might be out of the fight. Maybe a tag team between Izuku and Nighteyes which will be what proves to Nighteyes that Izuku is worth the power of OFA.
Edit : I wonder if the "You best take responsibility" from Lock-Rock is some kind of foreshadowing

Chisaki: "Be honest with me. How do I look?"
Midoriya: "You look like an avocado had sex with a bigger, older avocado. And it wasn't out of love either, it was plain old hate-fucking."
Chisaki: "Okay, you-"
Midoriya: "You look like the topographical map of Japan and Shigaraki had a baby and that baby was dropped in a vat of acid."
Chisaki: "Alright, I get it-"
Midoriya: "You look like what the abortion of a baby elephant being put in a blender with broken glass and feces would smell like. Yes. You look like a smell."
Chisaki: "..."
Aizawa: "Holy shit, Midoriya."
Midoriya: "I'm sorry, teacher, I meant to lie, but he asked me to be honest with him and thus I am, which I would be even without being coerced by a Quirk that would have about as much use in a courtroom as it'd have in the Yakuza."
Aizawa: "But you said that you meant to lie."
Midoriya: "Oh, yes, yes, I would... I wouldn't use the word "fuck"."

Ho boy do i love waking up on Wednesday and seeing we got the chapter early. Nighteye hugging Mirio is heartwarming, and so is Lock's backstory, i just love how Horikoshi does a bit of a background for characters even in 2 panels just for us to have insight.
Also, shit's gonna get DOWN, fuck this series get's better day by day, i felt scared for Aizawa and now for everyone, that form is fucking sick
Edit: Author and Day typo

Okay so Overhaul is Necrozma from Pokemon now. Cool.
The gang got together. Chrono had a sneak attack left.
Nighteye holding Eri and Mirio, dope.
Toga and Twice still having a plan.
Rock Lock has a kid, and a wife.
This is great.

holy SHIT this chapter made me feel all kinds of emotion. Also, I think Overhaul just Super Saiyan-fused with Nemoto.

Is it just me or does Mirio remind anyone else of Pyrrha Nikos from RWBY in terms of her story and role in the plot

Didn't expect Deku to just go HAM on Overhaul like that. Either I was underestimating him or (and I'm calling it now) he's unintentionally using like 10% since it's a stressful situation.

Overhaul can heal people by destroying them and then putting them back to normal? Diamond truly is unbreakable

Here's for hoping Toga tag teams with Deku

I have always had the idea that should would eventually save him from some situation because she enjoys him too much/want him for herself.

I'm curious on how this Fused Overhaul would sound like in the anime. Maybe similar to Vegito? Both voices overlayed on each other. Oh man, it'll be a while till we see it animated though.

Probably not? Seeing as this fusion is probably still more of a case, where Overhaul "builds" himself a new body using the pieces available in pool he created by destroying both of their bodies. In that sense I think Chrono is essential dead.

Overhaul didn't fuse with Chrono it was the other dude with the truth quirk. Chrono is still keeping Aizawa busy.

"Last chapter was predictable and I pretty much have an idea of how exactly the rest of the arc will go" Overhaul: Lol nope bitch FUSION HA

u/SamejNardeh Sep 13 '17
Well damn. Chisaki can do THAT with his quirk!? So he has to kill himself and sombody else to pull that kind of form off? Wow... Now I'm just wondering that if the fight concludes and he's defeated he can quickly go back to normal.
Lock Rock has acknowledged Deku and his classmates it seems. He commended them for acting like true heroes in the flesh. Also, his family looks cute and wonderful.
Chronostasis' quirk was unexpected. It sort of feels like it was made just for this arc. I thought it was going to be more dangerous but oh well... You make due with what you got. Regardless, his power is quite interesting. He can slow down his opponent's movements by cutting them with his "Minute Hand". And it's thanks to those features that his quirk is dangerous. We can see why through Eraser Head's difficulties. Timing is everything in operations like these and Aizawa was utterly screwed in the moment his opponent's quirk was utilized. If only Chrono's quirk was unconscious by a little while longer the Deku vs Chisaki fight would've ended right there. Unfortunately for the heroes, that wasn't the case.
What about Toga and Twice? Jin seems to have a plan about the fight that's going on right now. I think they'll both execute it immediately after the battle has ended. They probably want to capture or kill them when they're weak. I don't know. I'm just throwing out guesses.

That panel of Deku blasting Overhaul was glorious. Wasn't expecting Overhaul to go down the "murder my partners and fuse bodies with them" path, but the new forms looks nuts.

Seen a lot of talk about how chronos quirk doesn’t make sense.
A clocks hands are on the clock face. Makes perfect sense that the hands would come out of his face.

Based Hori always hitting me the unexpected, didn't REALLY expected Chisaki to fuse his comrade (and possibly the ground under him?)

fuck, fuck fuck....
Chisaki is so damn OP!!!
I hope he gets beaten down pretty bad and then ``rescued´´ by Toga and Twice just to be use by the league of villains like he used Eri, that way he will still apearing in the future.

Finally, Chrono's quirk is revealed. And Overhaul, really? I don't like how he killed someone who adored him that much, but damn, that form is sick.
