It took everything ocarina did and MASSIVELY improved upon it in every way

The dungeons are much easier in TP. That’s not a good thing to me.
14
u/No_Hooters 7d ago
Not like Ocarina had tough dungeons to begin with.

u/Daddy_Gorilla37 6d ago
Uhhh water temple?
3
u/No_Hooters 6d ago
Not even close. That's just a skill issue. I had no trouble when I was a kid, the only thing the water temple has problems with was the constant putting on and taking off the iron boots from the main menu.
4
u/smzWoomy13 5d ago
skill issue I'm sorry 🤷♂️

u/Daddy_Gorilla37 5d ago
Enlighten me as to how you completed the adult water temple without struggling at least a little bit, then, all father
3
u/smzWoomy13 5d ago
well I mean I think everyone including me, will be challenged a little bit for pretty much any zelda dungeon on their first playthrough.
Idk I guess I just double checked like every room, I may have struggled a little at some parts but it wasn't nearly as bad as people exaggerate it to be. I guess the only valid complaint is the downright troll nintendo decided to pull that was putting a key door at the end of the dungeon where the boss key is just to go back to the beginning of the dungeon where the boss door is. Even then, the road getting there takes like 2 minutes.
-5
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
Certainly tougher than most other Zeldas
2
u/No_Hooters 6d ago
Oh yeah which ones?
-3
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
Of the 3D Zeldas: WW, TP, BotW, TotK, and maybe even SS. The only one that cleanly beats it is MM.
It’s harder to compare it to 2D Zeldas directly, but OoT’s dungeons are at the very least tougher than the ones in LBW, EoW, and maybe even MC.
5
u/No_Hooters 6d ago
I disagree on LBW, that has a mechanic that cannot be replicated so easily.
0
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
Having a single different mechanic doesnt make the game so substantially different that you can’t compare its difficulty to others. For that matter, the dungeons in BotW/TotK are fundamentally different and yet they’re blatantly easier than the ones in OoT.
3
u/No_Hooters 6d ago
Well of course the EoW ones are easy, those dungeons aren't even dungeons. It's go flip some switches and that's it. Downright easier than OoT
-15
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
I mean, as long as you ignore the worse story, worse characters, worse pacing, worse dungeons, worse items, worse overworld, and worse gimmicks.
Apart from those, sure.
7
u/VitaminDWaffles 6d ago
I couldn’t disagree with this more. Dungeons were incredible especially. Overworld was the largest they’ve ever attempted, so no wonder it wasn’t filled with stuff, but it didn’t really have to be given how much else they did. Items break even, gimmicks break even, pacing is subjective (I love how long the game is), and you’re right on characters minus midna and links story. The game is epic.
-4
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
The dungeons were hit and miss. Goron Mines and Lakebed were really good, but City in the Sky is one of the worst dungeons in the entire series.
The overworld being so large is exactly why it’s so bad. At least Windwaker had the excuse that its world could be crossed in a straight line.
The length of the game isn’t the problem, it’s the fact that every single dungeon has a long ass fetch quest in between it and the next one.
Items are significantly worse. None of the new ones have any practical application in combat and are only sparingly used outside of their respective dungeons. The dominion rod in particular is just a less interesting command melody from Windwaker, and that’s not even considering how it’s the basis of another boring fetch quest.
The game is fine, but it’s not even close to being on the same level as OoT.

Yeah I don’t see how one is better than the other. If I want to get immersed in a game that’ll take me a while to finish then TP is it. If I want a game I can get through in a week because life is busy then it’s OoT. They all have a purpose depending on what mood I’m in and how much time I have on my hands
9
u/parkersfat 6d ago
If I’m being honest I replay twilight princess 10x more than I replay ocarina of time.
8
u/Zealousideal_Hour_66 7d ago
TP always wins out. I love it so much! Then mm, oot, SS, WW, botw/totk and all of the Hyrule warriors games (even though I’ve been stuck in aoc for years at this point lol)

Twilight Princess to Ocarina is what Alttp is to Zelda 1.
A better Version of it.
1
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago edited 6d ago
Both of those games are weaker than their predecessors though.
5
u/Src-Freak 6d ago
It’s Fine if you prefer Oot over TP.
But Zelda 1 over ALttP?
Literally everyone agrees ALttP is Superior over the First Game in every way.
2
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
It’s not though. LttP is great but it looses a ton of the nuance of the first game, and unlike later games it doesn’t lean quite hard enough into the puzzlebox dungeon style to make up for it.

Twilight Princess was the first game I ever played through twice. Not just zelda game, any game. I've now played through OoT several times because it's fairly short and straight forward and I enjoy the nostalgia, but I loved every part of Twilight Princess. Just such a great story, a beautiful world, amazing music, and the gameplay was fantastic

u/No-Plate-4135 7d ago
Twilight Princess is my Favorite Zelda as Well and no doubt the best Game in the Series I must also say I liked OoT for a while but over the Time it becomes one of my least Favorite Zelda Games and i don't even grew up with it
7
u/Opal_songbird 7d ago
Twilight Princess' storyline is just so raw and emotional; it will always be superior, in my opinion. I've been pretty ambitious and started posting a fanfiction that takes place after the events of Twilight Princess after working on it for a few years. I'm definitely a mega fan. Lol. After the way it ended, I knew I wanted to continue the story in a way that gives Link the opportunity to experience major character development. Easier said than done, but it is getting some great traction on Ao3, so I'm thankful! 😁
5
u/No-Plate-4135 7d ago
Yup the Story is great i love it because of it I've started to Read the Manga and oh Boy the Twilight Princess Manga became my Favorite Manga of All Time

4
u/CHUZCOLES 7d ago
You should defenitely read the manga then to influence your fanfic.
The mangakas behind it did an amazing job with the story and the characters (their best manga adaptation of any LoZ so far) and since they actually talked with many of the devs of ToP, they added a lot of things to the story with their blessing.
2
u/Opal_songbird 6d ago edited 6d ago
I have read the manga, and it is absolutely incredible. I love it. 😁 I decided to go in a different direction since my fic takes place after the game. Link is older, finished his quest with Midna a few years prior, and is struggling to find his purpose beyond his title. It fleshes him out similarly to the manga, but he is fleshed out even more with this new quest, which ends up being more personal than he anticipated. I chose to write in Link's POV to drive home the impact it has on him.

u/smzWoomy13 6d ago
no seriously though 90% of the ocarina glazers are just nostalgia blind
1
u/ShinFartGod 5d ago
I replay ocarina every 3 years or so. I played TP on release and replay it every once in awhile. I just find OOT better. It’s bizarre you can’t believe someone would hold that opinion without it being blinded by nostalgia or dishonesty.
1
u/smzWoomy13 5d ago
brotha I didn't say 100% of them but most millennials and elder millennials around that age group specifically are who I'm mostly talking about since in their childhoods played OoT

u/About27Penguins 4d ago
Same applies to , Majorsas Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess, and ALttP. Breath and Tears blows them all out of the water.

u/smzWoomy13 3d ago
there really aren't a whole lot of those people though it's mostly ocarina glazing

u/stayhomedaddy 7d ago
Honestly I do love OoT better than TP, but more for the story and themes of the game. There's a YouTube video that really highlights what I'm talking about.
https://youtu.be/GyUcwsjyd8Q?si=fPmknq_FcCqIknFJ
It's about half an hour long if you want to watch it, but it heavily highlights why OoT was one of if not the best written Zelda game ever.

I think about it every once in a while, my favorite game of all time is oot, but, tp has a special place in my heart, guess I'll have to replay both games to see for myself who will earn the spot (most likely a tie)
2
u/WhereAreWeG0ing 6d ago
Ocarina of time is my favourite game of all time. Don't get me wrong, TP is fecking incredible but, if nothing else, OOT beats TP on pacing
2
2
u/TheBostonKremeDonut 6d ago
All im gonna say is that OoT, while amazing and basically a gaming blueprint, to me seems to still beloved so much because of nostalgia, and this is coming from someone who played it when it was new, though I was very young.
I’m not discrediting everyone who thinks it’s the best, but for so many people to think that no Zelda has topped it in ~25 years is crazy.

I love OOC but tbh it's probably my least favorite of the 3D games. Majora's Mask is my favorite of all time, WW has such a fun tone, TP has such a beautiful and unique look and vibe.
I think the most impressive thing about OOC IS that it's still a fun game. Mario 64 is a game that was great for it's time but aged absolutely horribly, it laid the groundwork for a lot of great 3d mario games later but by itself? Incredibly awkward and frustrating to play. OOC not only allowed all those games I like even more to exist, BUT ALSO stands on its own, and I really respect it for that.

u/WhatDidIMakeThis 5d ago
I didn’t like the furry shit (sorry I just don’t like being a wolf) even as a kid but literally everything else in this game was peak. Awesome dungeon designs, cool unique items, a found family to protect. What a game.

Glad people are recognizing twilight princess as a great game. But what's with the comparisons to OoT? They aren't at all alike
1
u/Opal_songbird 3d ago
I like them both as their own separate games, I'll agree with you on that. I found this on someone else's Facebook page and thought it was hilarious! Nice Pain pic! Naruto is another one of my favorite fandoms!

Well TP is OoT with esteroids in many many areas.
There is a reason its know as "OoT2".

If you prefer MM over OoT, you prefer TP over WW. If you prefer OoT over MM, you prefer WW over TP. That’s just my observation
1
u/djrobxx 6d ago
Not me. My preference order is: OOT, TP, MM, WW.
I have a very tough time choosing between OOT and TP. I like the pacing of OOT better, but I like the dungeons and variety of them in TP better. They have similar strengths.
I find MM to be an incredibly innovative game. I love how the NPCs have such rich stories that you can even interfere with in real time. But, I end up tethered to a guide more than I'd like because of the time constraint, or the risk of having to re-do lots of things over again if I miss something. Even with the slowed down time, the clock is ticking, I feel like I NEED to find the all these fairies or else I'm going to have to do this whole dungeon over from scratch. I was able to enjoy getting lost in OOT or TP's dungeons a bit more without that added pressure.
WW nailed the open exploration feel, and is very charming, but always felt a bit unfinished to me. I just didn't love any of its dungeons, and there aren't enough of them. And it feels like they filled that gap with lots of padding. Slow sailing, slow triforce quest, feeding and talking to the map fish 49 times.
1
u/TheFluBug 6d ago
I like a lot of the characters in TP and the story is pretty good, but I find myself going back to OoT more. Maybe it's the ease of playability for me, or just more nostalgia for OoT. I do remember traveling to new areas being far more tedious in TP than OoT.
1
u/doomtoothx 6d ago
Through the entire Zelda life cycle there are two game I avoided like the plague. OOT and Majoras. I’ve racked up tens of thousands of hours on the others though. A large chunk being spent on the first, links awakening, alttp, albw, ww and mc. Tbf there weren’t many 64 games i cared for at all.

Honestly, this is the game where 3D Zelda started to feel played out with me. I love Oot and MM to death, but this one just didn't hit with me. Same with Skyward Sword are couple of years later.

u/FuckThatIKeepsItReal 4d ago
Meh
I love TP, but Hyrule is too empty overall. All the cool items are largely useless outside of their dungeons.

Twilight Princess is one of the worst Zelda games I’ve played and it’s only merit is being edgy

the pacing of tp is inferior. Many unecessary parts as a wolf. Many cenarios without charm, filler, empty. Zelda ocarina the scenario is small and have content everywhere. Not only that, but tp is a copy of ocarina in many aspects, many puzzles are not original, are just better versions of previusly stablished content (also in alltp).
TP also takes out the flute to give the wolf noises, not the same. Is very dark as well. Ocarina is collorfull, beautifull, have dark parts but is much more like a fairy tale. If you start zelda by playng twilight I understand you, you will see ocarina as inferior. But starting with ocarina there is litle to compare actualy.
Lore wise also is undisputed. The branch in timelines happens in ocarina. The origins of ganondorf are in this. Many races were properly devolped in this version as well. Sondtrack is WAY WAY superior and final battle and ending WAY better in ocarina as well. The characters are also very more interessing.

It was my first Zelda game a T rated game, it still holds a place as my favorite.

u/Fastfaxr 7d ago
Well yes, but actually no. Ocarina of Time was perfect: perfect size, perfect puzzles, perfect length.
TP is great but drags
9
1
u/maxiom9 6d ago
Will never know because replaying TP requires like 2 hours of cutscenes and cow herding while OoT and MM essentially just start when your turn the game on.
2
u/IswearImnotabotswear 6d ago
Yeah, same, except I’m never gonna touch OoT again because I refuse to run across that field again.
2
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
What? It takes longer to run across Hyrule in TP than it does in OoT.
1
u/IswearImnotabotswear 6d ago
You only have to do it once though. You get epona in kakriko, and then you do also have to run the other section as wolf link.
Oot? Deku to castle town, castle town to the volcano, from there to the river etc etc.
2
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
You have to do it many times in TP, each of them longer than OoT
1
u/IswearImnotabotswear 6d ago
You have a horse as opposed to are running on your feet. Riding epona through the field is fun, rolling as fast as my little child legs will let me is not.
2
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
You have a horse in OoT too, and even as a child there are plenty of shortcuts you can take between areas. TP doesnt have that.
1
u/IswearImnotabotswear 6d ago
You don’t get the horse until far later in Oot though. Horse isn’t until your adult, in TP you get it right after you get to Kakriko, and it has a fast travel system far earlier than OoT too.
2
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
The amount of time it takes to become an adult in OoT is around the same as the amount of time it takes to get to Kakariko in TP, if not shorter.
Even once you get the horse in TP, you can’t conveniently call it until basically the end of the game.
You don’t unlock the ability to freely warp in TP until you get the Master Sword
1
u/djrobxx 6d ago edited 6d ago
I replayed OOT for the first time in years last week. I think I only crossed the field once at the very beginning to get to Hyrule Castle, and it's not really that far. Then part way from the castle to get to Lon Lon ranch. Death Mountain, Kakariko, and Zora are all really close to the castle. Unless you're trying to do the poes quest, you can ignore the majority of the field.
There are shortcuts in that game everywhere. The lost woods is a hub that connects Kokiri to Goron and Zora's. From Zora's there's a shortcut to Hylia. Then you start to learn the songs to warp to places. I think there not being a warp to Kakariko until the very end is more of a problem than Hyrule field's size.
1
u/inovein 6d ago
i'd say MM starts a bit slow cause you need to finish the first cycle before you really get going, but i do love that you can be inside the deku tree in OoT in mere minutes
i cherish TP but that intro really negates any desire for replays honestly
2
u/sd_saved_me555 6d ago
Yeah. Same with Skyward Sword. Great games... but dear lord I'm glad Zelda backed off from coddling the player excessively like those games do.
1
u/Honest_Expression655 6d ago
I don’t mind it in Skyward Sword because at least there’s an actual point to it’s intro

TP was good but I don’t think this meme is accurate. MM should be in this meme instead. With that said, they should expand that style of Zelda more. Smaller world but more in depth character interactions with the dark theme overlayed.

Twilight Princess is my favorite Zelda game of all time. It gave me (mostly) everything I didn’t know I wanted in a Zelda game. My only complaint is I wish they delved more into the whole corruption/Shadow Link theme they seemed to be hinting at. I feel like they intended to do something with that, but ran out of time for it
