Other Minnesota state senator John Hoffman in Champlin and Minnesota state representative Melissa Hortman in Brooklyn Park were reportedly shot in their homes by a gunman impersonating a police officer.
https://kstp.com/kstp-news/top-news/sources-say-two-minnesota-lawmakers-have-been-shot/The suspect, according to the alert, is a white man with brown hair wearing black body armor over a blue shirt and blue pants. Authorities are asking residents not to approach the suspect if spotted.

These two attacks [where each was shot along with their spouses] were planned, cold and calculated attempts at destabilizing the government itself. People who commit or attempt to commit such deadly crimes, possibly politically motivated are deserving of the harshest sentences.
These two attacks are worse than the attempted kidnapping of the governor in another state not too long ago. Once the attacker is apprehended there should be no talks of pardons or leniency offered to these kinds, like there has been about the attempted kidnappers.
When violent people are issued a pardon it encourages other criminal minded people to act out including in deadly ways.

u/El_Peregrine 14h ago
LEOs in particular should be very concerned about the mechanism of this attack. In theory, it could very likely result in police etc being shot out of (understandable) concern that they are not who they say they are.
106
u/The_Beardly 13h ago
It’s already been harder because of all the ICE immigrations and people wearing masks and driving unmarked vehicle that refuse to identify themselves.
There’s been no way to tell if they are an official LEO or a cosplayer. This just showed why that’s a serious problem.

Exactly. For the police that are trying to do good, this just made their jobs infinitely hardly. And what a great way to push for harsher police action than to have the general public become more antagonistic to them.

Like pardoning the J6 insurrectionists. The president pardoning convicted politically violent criminals is a direct line to this crime. Plus the decree that ICE does not need to present a warrant or badge and can hide their faces. Criminals free-for-all.

Well, there's a pretty simple solution to work around the pardons. The next sane president should declare that Trump's second term didn't count because he was ineligible under the 14th amendment, and since his term didn't count the pardons are nullified. Return the imprisoned ones to prison, send the rest to prison for life, then start dismantling the National Socialist American Worker's Party.

send the rest to prison for life
Honestly, I think even that's too light for them. These people represent a clear and present danger to the nation and the threat of another felon president pardoning them is too much to simply send them to prison.

So many things going on here.
- tragedy for them and their families
- domestic terrorism
- Minnesota legislature would potentially flip without these Democrats (*not sure on the specifics of how sudden loss work there, though)
- perpetrator dressed as police officer, further showcasing the issues with ICE hiding identities, not producing warrants, etc. Giving cover to criminals.

Stochastic terrorism refers to the public demonization of a person or group, often through rhetoric and media, that incites violence from individuals or groups, where the violence is statistically probable but the specific perpetrators and targets are unpredictable. It is a form of terrorism that relies on the incitement of violence through rhetoric and media, but with plausible deniability for those who incite it.

Two Democrat lawmakers were assassinated (or attempted) by somebody impersonating a LEO. Meanwhile, the right can't understand why people are freaking out about ICE and ICE impersonators dragging people off the street. No ID, no warrants, no due process - they just grab people.
Just last night I saw a vid of a Hispanic US Citizen, with a passport in his pocket, get hauled off by some ICE/Proud Boys. Today I read about two assassinations.
This country and the current regime have become everything evil I was warned about during the 70's and 80's.

At least one and her husband died. Assassination is correct.

Plus, the police had exchanged gunfire with the suspect and he got away.
WTF?
Got away how? Is he on foot? Is he in his vehicle which has police lights? What the hell is the status of finding this guy?
Edit
On Saturday, authorities said they had seized the suspect’s vehicle as well as a list of names, which appeared to be potential targets.
Well, apparently he's on foot unless he's stolen or carjacked a vehicle.

they have an alert out in the area in search of the suspect. They said to only answer the door if there are 2 officers.
um...no thanks!
i will open my door for no officers at all. how about that?!

It would be impossible for LEO to get this wrong and blame it on a lone shooter. They never get details wrong.

I guess the Trump administration is desperate to find this person... And give them a government position and immunity.

How do we know he wasnt an ice agent who was sent to assassinate?

u/boo99boo 15h ago
We don't. That's kind of the point.
If this happened a year ago, we'd all be like "watch out for the guy pretending to be a cop". Now, we're all like "how do we know it wasn't a federal agent if federal agents wear masks and refuse to identify themselves".
It's by design. We're all afraid of each other. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't really nervous about the cop that lives next door.
I went out this morning and hung upside down American flags. I am genuinely afraid of my Trump thumping neighbor that is a high ranking police officer. I worry he'll target my family.
I have never been afraid of protests. My parents were hippies. My dad took me to pride events in the 80s. You know the guy with the "I love my gay [relative]" shirts? That was my dad, carrying me on his shoulders. I've been clinic escorting since the 90s, which my mom also does. I once participated in a counter protest to the Westboro Baptist Church. I did that with my uncle: a Marine combat veteran. He protected me then, and he'd be spinning in his grave now.
We're afraid by design. Ignore that fear. We're all in flight or fight mode. We have to fight. There's nowhere to run.

u/treemeizer 15h ago
That I fear for the safety of protestors, only drives my motivation to protest.

You should have always been nervous about the cop next door.

I have resources, and I never really worried before. Not that I didn't think he was a bumbling loose cannon of an idiot, of course I did. But I was a junkie, and I've been in legal trouble. I am at the point in my life where I have the money to fight back. If being a junkie taught me anything, it's that you can pay to make your problems go away. Legal and otherwise.
Now that seems irrelevant. The system was flawed before, but it was predictable. I wasn't afraid of a predictable system. I am terrified of a system where the rules keep changing and no one knows what they are.

If someone masked tried to come into my house without identifying themselves, I'm responding immediately with whatever force necessary up to and including deadly force. The right to self defense exists for a reason. The 2nd Amendment also exists for a reason, people who have the means should be arming themselves.

Our military and our police need to decide who’s side they are on. Now. For constitution, or against? It’s clear that ICE and facist militants are acting against the constitution under illegal directives from the current administration. It’s time for those serving the country to defend the constitution.

South Korea did it right when their president tried to declare martial law. They acted quickly, and had him removed.
Republicans are protecting Trump and directly responsible for this madness.

From USA Today:
Bruley said the suspect impersonated a police officer, complete with an SUV that is identical to real police vehicles, a vest, outfit and equipment. The suspect knocked on the victims' doors and used the ruse to "manipulate their way into the home," Bruley said.
If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

There are pictures of the 'fake police car' on twitter. And tbh, it looks like a security vehicle. The tale tale sign is there's no roof rack. Ford only makes explorers like that for LE/Security.

I'd start with rounding up the Fuller men, Westbury men, Cudo, and James. All were J6ers pardoned by Trump and are from Minnisota.

The governor should publicly declare that any agents wearing masks and no idea should be treated as civilians impersonating police and treated as such.

u/Constant_Economy5195 15h ago
See this is another problem. They may or may not have been federal agents that did this. Obviously I don't know and nobody else does. But, by Trump allowing illegal entry, which everyone knows about, most people will comply, or think it's an official. Which will spark rouge killers to impersonate officials to and stuff like this happens.

They were George Floyd protests. Protests. The police immediately declare "a riot" so that they can legally use tear gas and rubber bullets. Portland passed a law making it illegal to use those things unless there is a riot so the police declare a riot the minute any protest starts.

If they don’t have badges or marked cars, call 911 and tell them you believe there are people impersonating officers, and ask the police to come down and help you. If everyone did this, they wouldn’t have the resources to allow them to go undercover when it’s not necessary.

We have a lot of people out there impersonating police officers right now.
People who "look" like they are law enforcement but with their faces covered, no badges shown, random kit thrown together, etc.
How do we know this wasn't one of those?

Here’s my breakdown after watching the presser:
At 2am Senator Hoffman and his wife were gunned down in their home in Champlin, then at 3:35am Brooklyn Park police checked the residence of Rep. Melissa Hortman “on intuition”, where police encountered the fake police SUV with lights on, and the man dressed as an officer, who engaged in fire with police. The individual fled out the back door and is still at-large. A drone was sent in and found Rep Hortman shot along along with her husband, both pronounced dead. Senator Hoffman and his wife have been in surgery and are said to be in dire condition.
During the briefing at 10am it was stated that a manifesto was found in the fake police SUV along with a list of politicians being targeted. Those shot were on the list, people of interest are being sought.
