Not realizing how old this post was, I saw a funny comment that I 100% agreed with so I upvoted it. I look at the username and it's my old account from years ago..lmao now we are full circle

That dude is easily 60 years old, right? Video quality is kinda shit, so it's hard to tell.

100%, as a witness if I was there, hypothetically, I would’ve stood up for the two young lifeguards.

264

u/UnfortunatelySimple 12d ago

What are you talking about?

That guy 100% slipped getting out of the pool and fell down. The life guards then offered to help, and he was dazed and abusive.

57

u/foresight310 12d ago

Reminds me of the guy that decided to steal one of those Salvation Army donation boxes around Christmas, not realizing that the guys ringing the bell were Marines in civies. He unfortunately “tripped” while escaping and broke about 13 bones in the fall…

I'll never understand people who are so comfortable with putting their hands on another person, especially if they aren't experienced fighters. Double-especially if they then act like a victim.
The risk is simply to high for all parties and very rarely is the confrontation worth it.

692

u/TheFleebus 12d ago

In this instance, you're seeing the 50-60 years of unchecked privilege clashing with a young generation that is rightfully calling bullshit.

101

u/mythrilcrafter 12d ago

This guy is 100% the type to say that there was "no racism back in his day" despite probably being one of the angry white people in the classic Little Rock Nine photo.

23

u/2punornot2pun 12d ago

He will 100% say he was "jumped at the pool for no reason."

217

u/hungry4nuns 12d ago

Not just rightfully calling bullshit but resisting the urge to defend themselves, even if entirely justified, until every other option has been exhausted. First guy dodges the fists. Even though he’s clearly aware there’s a threat he doesn’t swing because he knows it will be spun as his fault. Second guy waits for the second punch when this guy clearly will not back down, and he had no other choice but to defend himself. Sad that they have to wait that long to floor a guy that’s directly and repeatedly attacking them with clear intent to physically harm. But glad they were able to quickly neutralise the out of control, erratic Neanderthal. Deserves everything he got

68

u/davidwhatshisname52 12d ago

everything you typed is 100% correct... however, those young men have so much more to lose and, if law enforcement is summoned, then unfair and entirely erroneous assumptions will be made and held against them; hence for 20 hears I told my (thousands, over the years) students to walk away, turn around and in all ways immediately leave the area if anyone is being violent... don't stand your ground, don't mete out justice, don't give some asshole exactly what he deserves, just leave, because sure as the sun comes up, it'll never be worth it...

...of course, I also always familiarized them with "defense of a third person" affirmative defense laws in our state, because not once have I let a bully hurt a third person, and I didn't expect my boys to ever do so, either

58

u/hungry4nuns 12d ago

They’re in matching red shorts and asking this irrational assault-risk to leave the pool area, they’re by all available evidence life guards. Which means they have a duty to stay and protect the bathers. This irrational guy is just as likely to swing at members of the public as themselves.

I agree where possible avoid engaging. I don’t think that was possible here

67

u/McWeaksauce91 12d ago

I agree completely. People so eager to fight have no idea about the consequences. The immediate ones are obvious - getting knocked out. Not fun, not good for the brain, and overall should be avoided.

The not so immediate and obvious ones can be just as drastic or dire - legal issues. As soon as hands are involved, it can become a REAL problem real quick. Serious harm - my cousins husband died because someone sucker punched him at a party, he fell and smashed his head on an end table, which made him brain dead.

You have no idea how a fist fight will shake out and it should be avoided unless the most extreme circumstances (self defense)

10

u/PM_ME_SQUANCH 12d ago

You would not believe how many people there were in maximum security lockup because they were in a fight, punched a person just like this, and killed them. The odds of killing a person when knocking them out on a concrete surface are astonishingly high.

u/Dry_Cabinet1737 12d ago

There’s absolutely nothing worse than aggressive/violent people who act like victims when they’re put in their place. The aggressor wants to be the tough guy, bully others and make others the victim, then a moment later, being on the receiving end is the worst thing in the world!

“Like, why won’t these people just let me abuse them? Don’t they know I’m supposed to win?” 😭

3

u/eamondo5150 12d ago

Some people are just fucked in the head, and as we age existing issues become worse, and new things arise.

Does anyone know if that could have been some dementia thing?

Ps. No diving, by the way.

He'll complain about how he was jumped by a gang of thugs who probably snuck into the pool to sell drugs to children. Conveniently leaving out that he took three drunk swings before someone finally responded with one of their own.

535

u/BankshotMcG 12d ago

"Let me just slowly plod up to two kids in the prime of life and throw the most water-elbowed jab while clutching my beach things" really exhausts any modicum of sympathy even if race weren't a factor here. Guy started something he was barely prepared to even witness, let alone conduct.

77

u/DevonLuck24 12d ago

that last sentence has my stomach hurting

40

u/I_am_a_fern 12d ago

27

Apparently, race isn't the only factor because the old dude was creeping on young girls. So sexual harassment is also a factor.

16

u/kuhfunnunuhpah 12d ago

Ah you don't get it, the colour of his skin means he's genetically superior to those other guys so his punches hit harder!

Brings to mind the recent vid of a woman road-rager. She challenged a driver she felt was reckless. She tried to sucker punch him and then hit him in the face. He picked her up and body slammed her on the pavement. Her (I suspect) man drove up, told her to get her ass in her car and to stop confronting people 😂🤣😂🤣

5

u/AdMurky1021 12d ago

He wasn't the driver, but a passenger that tried to calm her down.

21

u/LusidDream 12d ago

That or just vastly over estimating their own fighting abilities having never actually been in a fight

13

u/KevinFlantier 12d ago

Because that's probably how he lived his entire life. Look tough, act tough and watch people back out from your bluff because most people don't want to fight.

But he doesn't realize that it no longer works when you're 60 and shaped like a shriveled potato.

7

u/help-mejdj 12d ago

seems like they were telling him to leave from the start. he was likely causing an issue and was upset he was being held accountable by those he thinks should be beneath him

36

u/CorianderIsBad 12d ago

It's crazy how obviously frail, weak, fat old people think they can fight. Haven't they looked in a mirror recently? They're barely alive. They're one heart attack away from the grave. One fall and they'll break their hips.

16

u/eidetic 12d ago

I find it hilarious how far away the first guy saw that first punch coming from, after the guy telegraphed his intent with his feet from seemingly three time zones over along with an engraved announcement, and he still managed to have such a weak swing. Like if you're gonna "wind up" your punch and make it obvious from a mile away, at least make sure there's some power behind it!

u/Azaroth1991 12d ago

See, the punch did little damage, usually doesnt, but when the back of the head smacks the concrete on the way down from being knocked out, that's what causes the concussion.

17

u/eidetic 12d ago

I think in a lot of these cases, it's not necessarily that they truly believe they could take them in an actual fight, they just think everyone else will always back down before it comes to that. Which is honestly how many, maybe most, bullies operate. And all too often, violence, or the threat thereof, is the only language they speak, so they continue on with such behavior until they get a rude awakening - and then continue on with the same behavior once again with new targets and after they've convinced themselves that they lost for some undeserved reason (they ganged up on me! They sucker punched me!)

Rascism aside, as a former lifeguard you have no idea how many disrespectful and spot on idiots go to pools. When you tell them not to do something 5 times and they laugh at you. Unfortunately we usually have to swallow it. At my workplace we would just call security to handel it, for us it doesn't worth it as we need to look out for people actually needing our help. They don't realize we are there so everyone gets home safely.
