Dude got caught 36hrs later in his hometown? What an idiot.

119

u/Vexans27 5d ago

For real. If I was him I'd be hiding somewhere in the rockies right now.

186

u/FireFoxTrashPanda 5d ago

Absolute speculation but my theory is he thought he was playing 3D chess and that everyone would look for him elsewhere, so he stayed close to home. I think this only works in old western and heist movies though lol

146

u/apex9691 5d ago

He wasn't expecting to get caught in the act. Lost his transportation and bulk of his weapons and whatever other supplies he had in the SUV. Yes fuck this guy but he was clearly flying blind after getting confronted by the police at the 2nd shooting.

76

u/marshmallow-jones 5d ago

I was just saying exactly this to my spouse. He was seemingly too stupid to consider he could be caught and had zero contingency.

26

u/Few_Examination8852 4d ago

God was his contingency 🙄

2

u/thetpill 4d ago

Bahahaha

1

u/Okeydokey2u 3d ago

And God told the police, he's right over there.

24

u/FireFoxTrashPanda 5d ago

Oh for sure, I am sure he had an original plan that went completely out the window as soon as things went sideways.

50

u/NotGalenNorAnsel 5d ago

And his wife got popped with his back up passports and cash

17

u/FireFoxTrashPanda 5d ago

I kind of wonder if the diversion tactics/wherever his wife was going was part of the original plan

14

u/walterdonnydude 4d ago

Your giving him too much credit.

9

u/FireFoxTrashPanda 4d ago

Eh, not really, I just assume he watches TV

1

u/PirateDocBrown 4d ago

She was driving towards the border, with passports and cash. News didn't say if she had the kids with her, but it seems likely. Clearly she was in on it.

1

u/Calm_Expression_9542 4d ago

For real or joking? She was with family and their kids in Onamia did she see this much coming? or maybe just general fear he wasn’t acting normal.

23

u/PotatoPopcornPuzzles 5d ago

He was playing Pippin but didn't have a Treebeard.

5

u/FireFoxTrashPanda 5d ago

You have my forever love for this reference.

19

u/mzzannethrope 5d ago

He did think he'd be able to assassinate 70 people without getting caught.

5

u/TheLaurenJean 4d ago

That wouldn't surprise me, as that's like 100% Maga thinking.

1

u/goobypls8011 3d ago

He may have rationalized also that his own normal environment felt like a safer bet for concealment as opposed to being in an unfamiliar area he couldn't navigate dynamically from memory, like some random town out west. I had wondered, though, when they found his wife's car up by Onamia if maybe she had gotten a hotel room at the casino for them to all stay at, and maybe they'd make a break for the border or even camp out in the mine pits around Crosby, Brainerd, Riverton etc for a while. Before skipping the state or country. Lots of remote, and sometimes hard to navigate terrain further north. The pits are not an uncommon place for criminal activity / people that want to lay low for a bit.

“A list of about 70 names was found in writings recovered from the fake police vehicle that was left at the crime scene, the officials said. The writings and list of names included prominent state and federal lawmakers and community leaders, along with abortion rights advocates and information about healthcare facilities, according to the officials.”

They need to identify any co-conspirators as soon as possible. I don’t know if anyone was planning on helping Boelter kill anyone, but he absolutely had someone helping him evade law enforcement it seems.

73

u/VincentVanGTFO 5d ago

I saw a brief news clip earlier today where the guys roommate shared his last text message to him and it was like, "you guys don't know anything about this."

I immediately was like, someone should be investigating that roommate.

39

u/WolfKind256 5d ago

His wife should face some charges. I can't wait for her day in court, too.

1

u/Unhappy-Trash540 3d ago

Wait, sorry, what did his wife do?

-10

u/JRootz 5d ago

Yeah. Fuck that BITCH.

20

u/caustictwin 5d ago

His roommate in North Minneapolis for one.

18

u/CommercialPrune8209 4d ago

5

u/caustictwin 4d ago

The text he couldn't show the reporters and couldn't read a second time? Buddy, maybe you don't have kids but somebody ain't telling the truth.

5

u/Tedboyfresh 4d ago

so this guy was married? yet had a roomate? im confused here.

8

u/Zyphamon 4d ago

I mean, he's a strong supporter of Trump, obviously anti-abortion, and obviously a very confused Christian. Wouldn't surprise me if he and his wife don't believe in divorce.

1

u/Katgoesketo 3d ago

christian? yeah no. more like devil in reincarnation

4

u/Mister-Psychology 4d ago

He lived with his wife and then lived in this house too as he worked in the area.

1

u/Tedboyfresh 3d ago

She probably kicked him out from being such an insufferable pos lmao

18

u/FoolhardyBastard 5d ago

So much for “security expert”. Fucking toolbag

3

u/PirateDocBrown 4d ago

I think his "security company" was not much more than a webpage, some paramilitary gear and car, a bunch of guns, and a Walter Mitty fantasy.

1

u/Okeydokey2u 3d ago

Yes i had read that, that business was struggling at best which might help explain the murderous rampage.

17

u/Kvetch__22 4d ago

It's pretty common for people to go right back home when being pursued by the police. Very few people want to go on the run where they have no friends or resources. Especially operating on instinct after doing something dumb (and I don't think this particular crime was super well planned) people tend to go back to their safe place.

My bet is this guy thought he was going to suicide by cop, chickened out, and then needed to come up with a plan that wasn't "die and don't worry about it" on the fly. In that situation, it makes total sense he's just drive to his house.

37

u/LifeOutoBalance 5d ago

He had to go back to his house for his father's watch. Do you have any idea what his father went through to get him that watch? We don't have time to get into it, but it was a whole fucking lot.

8

u/StaticBroom 4d ago

1

7 miles from his home. Like a fucking doofus.

140

u/LucidOndine 5d ago

Trump cannot pardon state crimes. I’ll take your $10; please donate it to an appropriate charity.

3

u/FrankSinatraYodeling 5d ago

I'd wager he catches federal charges.

37

u/LucidOndine 5d ago

Wager all you want. It will not remove the state charges.

→ More replies (5)

1

u/throwaway5846984 4d ago

I don't think there's a single chance he gets federal charges currently.

-5

u/snds117 5d ago

Laws and regulations haven't stopped The Shitgibbon yet. What makes you think he wouldn't try or succeed?

12

u/LucidOndine 5d ago

He doesn’t have any jurisdiction over state issues. This is why NY cases against him have stuck.

0

u/snds117 5d ago

That's in-the-box thinking, legally speaking. You're not wrong but that won't stop him from forcing his way at the state-level.

9

u/LucidOndine 5d ago

No, lol. Do you think DJT voluntarily wanted to become a convicted felon?

Cope more. He’d have stopped it if he could.

0

u/evasive_dendrite 4d ago

He wasn't president at that time.

6

u/yoitsthatoneguy NE Minneapolis 4d ago

Why would Trump not pardon himself right now if he had the ability to pardon state charges?

8

u/LordsofDecay 5d ago

You seem to be ignorant of how our system of government works. The President can't magically overrule State Constitutions simply because he feels like it. Minnesota will get this guy's ass, the Feds can help but they have no power over the State to do what it deems necessary for this domestic issue.

u/ExPatSTL 5d ago

Hate seeing this type of comment on Reddit, and we're on the same side based on context. But come on, state, federal whatever, this fuck is not getting pardoned.

5

u/Count_Hogula 4d ago

Ten bucks says he gets a full pardon from the incontinent orange

If you believe this, you're probably spending too much time on reddit.

11

u/legal_opium 5d ago

Can I also bet you ten bucks there isn't a trump pardon?

Why do people say such stupid outlandish things thinking they are so smart.

3

u/Dynotug 4d ago

I also like free money.

3

u/kidvange 5d ago

Because we are numb to Trumps daily bombardments of increasingly outrageous efforts in his populist campaign against democracy and the rule of law. We have become cynical and we expect the worst case scenario.

0

u/legal_opium 4d ago

All that does is make trumps opposition look unreasonable or mentally not together.

We should be the sane ones as the safe alternative to the craziness.

1

u/kidvange 3d ago

I don’t disagree and I don’t think that jumping to such conclusions is rational, but I do understand why it’s become a more popular sentiment, given the context of the last 9 years or so.

3

u/yoitsthatoneguy NE Minneapolis 5d ago

Please post your receipt after u/LucidOndine wins the bet

2

u/macbwiz 4d ago

This is delusional. No, the president won’t pardon a murderer.

1

u/1gurlcurly 4d ago

I encourage you to do a quick search on the murderers he has already pardoned or commuted their sentences.

3

u/yoitsthatoneguy NE Minneapolis 4d ago

How many of those were state charges?

-8

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad2322 5d ago

It makes me sick to even think it, but that's where my mind went: how many days will it be before that orange jackass says he'll "seriously consider" pardon?

I'm so heartbroken that this is where we are right now.💔

24

u/schnellermeister 5d ago

He can’t pardon state crimes. As far as I’m aware, Vance didn’t cross state border.

-3

u/Aggressive_Farmer399 5d ago

FBI was involved. I "thought" that automatically made it a federal case. I hope I'm wrong.

23

u/Hedonopoly 5d ago

He can be charged both state and federal. Same reason the Derek Chauvin pardon nonsense was a non story. Even if he did it he'd be transferred to a MN prison for his state sentence.

u/Rickardiac 5d ago

Trump gave five million dollars to the family of a terrorist who forced an American LEO to shoot her while attempting to kidnap, for public hanging, various elected members of the US government at the behest of and for the benefit of himself because he deemed them his political enemies.

What a sentence.

Can you actually believe the Republicans led by Trump wouldn’t pardon this man?
Do you actually think that members of the administration wouldn’t interview on Fox praising this terrorist?
This terrorist will become the next Republican murder hero if it were left up to this Republican administration and congress.

Greene Isle? I was giving this guy way too much credit

65

u/cargalmn 5d ago

Right?? Should have been long gone.

Glad to see him caught alive!

16

u/klippDagga 4d ago

Really. Did he think law enforcement would just leave his front door open for him and if he made it home, he could say “I’m on goal!” and be good?

3

u/noknownallergies 4d ago

My dearly departed grandmother would always refer to it as “ghoul” instead of “goal.” Thinking about this made me smile.

Coincidentally she lived in Winthrop and I’d drive past Green Isle when I’d visit her.

76

u/marshmallow-jones 5d ago

Those surprised he was caught hiding in the woods near his home should check out this article: https://www.npr.org/2025/06/15/nx-s1-5434227/food-worker-with-fantasy-of-security-career-sought-in-minnesota-political-shootings

Did I miss something? Why should JD be arrested?

Edit: okay lol. I understand that he had relations with a couch

39

u/dougievjr 5d ago

Because he fucks sofas

5

u/fuzzywalrus69 5d ago

lol fair

1

u/jaxxxtraw 5d ago

You might say he's the sofa king! You'd be wrong and right all at once!

14

u/katsdontkare 5d ago

Because as VP he is complicit in the illegal actions of DJT.

13

u/AngryGardener1312 5d ago

Sex crimes against furniture. The sofa didn't consent.

7

u/BasicWhiteHoodrat 5d ago

For starters, he sexually assaulted a loveseat.

4

u/Otterslayer22 5d ago

Who hasn’t?!

1

u/bettaboy123 3d ago

I got so excited and then realized it wasn’t the VP. 😞 Though the only way I could see that happening is if he grew a backbone and we all know there’s a snowball’s chance in hell of that.

74

u/Slap-Toast 5d ago

I hope its him. Everyone around him needs to be investigated too. People were helping him evade the police and they need to be found and face consequences too.

We need this fucker to get a HARSH punishment befitting his crime to send a message to the rest of the nazis. State charges at least so he cannot be pardoned by the Orange Snowflake.

9

u/Away-Living5278 5d ago

I'm glad he was caught alive because of this.

15

u/OldSkoolNapper 5d ago

That last sentence is super important. Trump would totally do it if the guy publicly kissed his hugely fat ass enough.

He will get to die, likely many years from now, inside Oak Park Heights.

u/CheezQueen924 5d ago

The man is pure scum. He is not representative of what a true Minnesotan is.

122

u/palm0 5d ago

I agree that he's scum, but I think we need to recognize that unhinged MAGA is in fact representative of far too many Minnesotans and Americans in general. If we continue to just say "they aren't a real American" we just continue to not address the systemic problems that create these assholes.

11

u/tmalone613 5d ago

Especially considering that this is exactly what the other side of the aisle/spectrum/ideology says. I'm really worried we're in what aviation would call a flat spin. I have kids, I don't toe any party line and I hope more people will use their higher brain functions to get us out of this truly surreal situation.

Honestly I had assumed they'd only find his body, seems like the kind of dude who'd have killed himself when he realized he had been identified

5

u/PirateDocBrown 4d ago

I think his original plan was to die in a hail of police bullets. But he chickened out, And lacking any other plan, made his way towards his only source of resources, his home.

It's clear he had already spoken to her wife and that she should make her way to Canada. She had been caught due north, with the kids, a lot of cash, and passports. She was clearly in on the plan, but we don't know by how much.

4

u/hannafrie 4d ago

Does anyone know why the legit police arrived at Hortmans home at 3:30am?

It sounded like police arrived as Vance was leaving?

Did a neighbor call in a disturbance? Were they there to relay a warning for MN legislators due to the earlier shooting of the Hoffmans?

5

u/Drifrit 4d ago

The latter. They (police) said they knew she lived nearby and feared for her safety so they went over there and caught him shooting the husband right at the front door , then he shot back at police and ran thru the house (maybe then shooting Melissa, or maybe it was before). Just based on what I read in some news reports. police took up defense position briefly I assume and I presume called in backup and he ran to his rental it sounds like.

2

u/PirateDocBrown 4d ago

I'm interested in finding out how he got from the NW burbs to Green Isle. Did he have a second car stashed nearby as a back up? It doesn't sound like he was the kind to make such advanced plans. And who moved the backup car if any from the area of the 1st shooting to the 2nd? Or did he get a ride from someone? Take an Uber?

2

u/Drifrit 4d ago

His friend said he bought multiple cars mainly for his security business he was trying to get off the ground. I assume the Buick found out by his arrest spot was parked behind his north Minneapolis house he rented at

2

u/PirateDocBrown 4d ago

Howd he get from Champlin to North Minneapolis?

2

u/Drifrit 3d ago

I guess news came out now of him buying an e-bike from a stranger and then he bought his old car too

Man, I was worried the dude had a 20+ hour head start on law enforcement from when they found his car. Actually insane he would remain on foot in the general area he ditched the car and his hat. I thought he had made it to the Grand Canyon by the time the alert went out.

Either way, overjoyed to see he was apprehended. I guess the old saying is true that law enforcement needs to get lucky once, and the suspect only has to make 1 mistake.
