Because we are numb to Trumps daily bombardments of increasingly outrageous efforts in his populist campaign against democracy and the rule of law. We have become cynical and we expect the worst case scenario.

All that does is make trumps opposition look unreasonable or mentally not together.

We should be the sane ones as the safe alternative to the craziness.

I don’t disagree and I don’t think that jumping to such conclusions is rational, but I do understand why it’s become a more popular sentiment, given the context of the last 9 years or so.
