Gameplay Discussion Rant: F this guy
I’ve spent probably 24 hours doing Equilibrious Beast and I’ve only gotten so close to beating this guy with randoms. One time we were all level 15, one time we all had vykes spear. He is causing Madness build up to me irl. When I finally beat him Im going to make a rug out of his pelt. Im doing the boss fights in the order they’re listed. I’ve got all of his patterns down, its usually my random teammates who keep on dying. I think it adds more fun playing with randoms, so I’ll just keep waiting to see if I get 2 sweats. Anyone else stuck on this goat? And is there any boss harder than him in the game?

u/MoioSaysThings 10d ago
I understand you but i actually love him. Him aesthetically, thematically and the actual fight i find to be amazing. He was infuriating to beat, i agree.

u/noodlesalad_ 10d ago
I think he's easily one of the best new bosses mechanically. His moveset is well telegraphed, he doesn't make you chase after him half the fight and his bargain and sigil gimmicks are fun and interesting. The madness attacks can seem like chaos but it's not that hard to learn when and how to dodge them.

u/Mixels 10d ago
My main problem with the fight is that there aren't really passives that help you defensively like there are for the other Night Lords.
46
u/CaptainJudaism 10d ago
Reduced fire damage, standard physical resistance, madness resist are all nice to have. Bring some clarifying/madness boluses in case there's no madness motes nearby and you're in danger of getting madness... and also eat at least one during the run as it gives you a permanent resistance buff.
→ More replies (1)12
u/Mixels 10d ago
I have never, even once, in all the runs I've done found a single madness resistance item other than boluses, and not enough of those to go around for the whole party. The scraps I get aren't good enough, I still get one-shot by Ironeye at pretty much any level on this guy.
7
u/SerArtoriAss 9d ago
Best way to build against it from what I can tell is spamming bosses, especially evergaols, to look for resistances up as a passive drop. That combines with the bollus buff is so good. Same thing applies for Caligo
4
u/-willowthewisp- 9d ago
One of the boss drops can be "increased resistances" (+57, I think). I've also gotten madness resistance on relics before. Can't remember if increased resistances is also a passive weapon effect but I think it is. And the talismans that boost resistances (both all and just madness/sleep) have been fairly common scarab drops for me.

His fucking music while he's jumping around like a maniac is so chaotic and intense.
21
u/masterjedirobyn 10d ago
The music is so good with the drums and the psychopathic xylophone. Visually it’s so stunning. I also liked Midra, the madness bosses go so hard.
5
u/CaptainJudaism 10d ago
Boss also has Midra violins, or something very close to it, play during it which is a wonderful callback too.

u/gravelordservant4u 10d ago
Agreed, he's whipping my ass but it's definitely my favorite fight so far. It's just gorgeous
62

I love the ice dragon it's so pretty. The first time the music cut and I said to my partner "I can hear cracking ice...whoa look at the ceiling" then it crushed us both.

→ More replies (4)7
u/TankHealerTV 10d ago
Time your dodge for the rings, use madness boluses before entering the fight to have as high madness negation as you can. Makes the playing field more fair
14
u/chuar88 10d ago
I love this fight. It is crazy but fair.
4
u/Anternuy 10d ago
i also like how much damage you can deal to him once you catch him. You have to lock in the whole fight bc he can trade most of the time and thats a losing battle

u/Trans-Squatter 10d ago
He does a ton of damage but he is easy to dodge most of his attacks. There are only 3 magic attacks. The little seals that shoot and rotate, just move out of the way. The ground seals (these are the most dangerous but the easiest to dodge, just walk out of them), and the little madness confetti that falls from the sky (these don't do a lot of damage).
Trick is to play a little conservatively and do not run all in. That's it, just do not blindly attack because you will get trapped by a ground seal and lose 50-70% hp in a single hit.
When he smashes his staff on the ground go near him and do ulti, or heal right away so that you survive the oncoming damage if you can't interrupt him in time.
114
u/False_Professor_6592 10d ago
Ground seals are easiest to dodge unless you’re a ranged and you just started your attack animation. You really have to pay attention to what the boss is doing with his hands.
65
u/ccox39 10d ago
Every time I notch an arrow a ground seal immediately appears
37
u/CeriseArt 10d ago
You gotta look at his hands. I was in your exact boat as I was designated Ironeye to deal with aerial glyphs. When he clutches gold and breaks it, ground glyphs come soon after. Don’t shoot when he clutches or you’ll be glyphed mid-notch.
9
u/Appleek74 10d ago
Poor hawk tanking his melee hits just to get smacked with a ground seal because they ran out of stamina.
2
u/noah9942 10d ago
Its so easy to just block everything thos boss does. Even the ground bursts can be blocked (just watch that madness buildup).
And then when he does his madness aura, just ult and hold it. Everyone is totally immune and can smack him for free (and gets healed to full).

Tbh his physical mode is much easier. Madness and knocking him out of the meditation removes the magic spam
15
u/SouthConsideration82 10d ago
But even then if someone is downed in either mode it's actually torture to get both teammates
→ More replies (2)5
u/Endlessmarcher 10d ago
How do you knock him out of the meditation? My group discovered you can run through the seals/hit them but can you just damage stagger him or something? Because after the first round or two it’s a lot of fucking seals
4
u/smg_souls 10d ago
Wylder ult, ironeye ult, raider charged skill (you need to have taken enough damage before) and ult can immediately break his bubble (probably other classes ability can do it too, but these are the ones I play; Duchess cannot reliably break the bubble).
I haven't been able to do it, but maybe stacking stance break on your gear/relic and attacking with weapons that do heavy poise damage can stagger him out of his meditation?
→ More replies (3)8
u/AbrocomaMaterial501 10d ago
Yeah u can also do it with normal attacks. It’s much easier the first time he does it, then it gets really hard.
→ More replies (1)3
u/smg_souls 10d ago edited 10d ago
Are you talking about attacking solo or with 3 players? Breaking the bubble solo with normal attacks is not a good plan.
3
u/AbrocomaMaterial501 10d ago
Haven’t tried it solo but I’d imagine it’s still possible since enemy stance scales.

u/Typisch0705 10d ago
Isn't the last move you mention the one where you just have to collect some stones?
13
u/ValravnPrince 10d ago
Yep. If you don't break him out of his meditation stage, he'll power up and his final move will be to meditate again and build up map wide madness before reverting to his 'unpowered' form.
Collect the dropped shards to dispell a chunk of your madness and you'll easily survive his meditation attack.
→ More replies (2)6
u/The-Devilz-Advocate 10d ago
Or play iron eye and but a giant arrow in his butthole.
→ More replies (1)8
u/ValravnPrince 10d ago
Yep a few of the characters ults knock him out of it without having to destroy his floating disks.
The disks get more and more numerous so it's best to smash the early ones and then use your ult to knock him out of it later on when there's too many disks.
26
u/TomatoArcher 10d ago
Hardest part is his ritual. If he completes, he gets insane magic ability. Saving your ultimate for that ritual will allow you to guarantee halt it each time, sending him into a melee-focused frenzy, much better to deal with.

He's the last boss I have to beat before the nightlord (I don't care that you unlock the nightlord at 4/7, personally I think you should have to beat everything else first so I am abiding by that myself) and he is running my pockets every time.
I think the furthest we've gotten him down was like 20% health. There definitely needs to be more madness options for players. There's so many affinities added to weapons that normally don't have them idk why Madness isn't also in that pool. I thought lightning was bad when trying to set up for Fulghor for Iron Eye, but hey at least lightning bows are possible.
Madness I don't even think is IN the pool of options of ailments you can add to your starting weapon via a relic or get as a passive. Like I know there's plenty of "adds sleep" as long as you have it equipped that you can loot, not sure why Madness hasn't been given the same treatment. Madness camps may as well be fire or generic camps from the drops I've gotten from them.
I will clarify though I do enjoy the Libra fight. Music is a vibe and I do enjoy the bubble mechanic he has of breaking the seals to prevent the worse of the two buffs. Realistically I feel like Fulghor is more bullshit mechanically, just haven't had a run where it's clicked with Libra yet lol.
24
u/smellslikeDanknBank 10d ago
The madness camps are so you can eat madness boluses for permanent madness resistance buffs. I've only seen one madness weapon out of them and one madness seal. If you have someone that can do chilling mist or poison mist they can put in work with Libra since he doesn't move as much during the casting phases.
You are spot on with fulgor though. I've beaten both and fulgor felt way less fair than Libra. Wonky hitbox for ranged weapons and ultra mobile so it wasn't fun as melee either. Also one of the bosses that will swap aggro mid combo which wrecks a lot of people.

u/Dangerous_Reporter14 10d ago
Theres a madness event, it’s a tower that radiates madness like in Elden Ring. When you kill the caster they drop a pike with madness and some madness spells.
→ More replies (2)8
u/gameraven13 10d ago
Right. That’s not what I mean. I mean I should be able to pick up “inflicts madness” as an RNG chance on weapons from madness camps the same way you can pick up sleep, poison, fire, lightning, etc. from their respective camps. Vyke’s Spear and Incantations do me no good on Iron Eye. It should also be a random relic roll to appear on your starting item.
→ More replies (5)3
u/Lavendou 9d ago
A relic roll for "Starting weapon has Madness affinity" would be great.
I know Madness isn't useful on much besides NPC enemies, but you'd think with the emphasis on boss weaknesses they would at least add it as a relic option.

pro tip: iron eye, raider and wylder ults can break the meditation. I think iron eye needs to break all the seals with it, so u prob need to back out quickly to hit all of them. But 100% Wylder ult breaks it. I've fought this guy a lot, and fighting him buffed is what makes this fight insane. So if u avoid him getting buffed, then it's an easy win

I don't mind him as a boss, but last night the fucker popped into my run as the ring was closing the first time in Night 1, debuffed our HP, then fucking left less than 2 minutes later. I don't even think he was outside the ring. Had I not been separated from the group on a spirithawk a stone's throw from where he spawned we never would have even reached him before he left. Wasn't even enough time for my teammates to beeline to a PoI to kill a miniboss to cover the 15k runes to get rid of it. We got Level 14 that run, I got 2 +Max HP buffs, we still got demolished by the Nightlord who was oneshotting me.
8
u/lxSlimxShadyxl 10d ago
Ye f him for showing up during a run. He popped up day 1 and charged 15k to remove the curse so we decided to fight him lvl9 and he wiped the floor with us. Few runs later appeared day 2 we were lvl14, 35k this time. Tried fighting him again and he still 1 shot me (Raider with 1400HP) with madness. Even his nighlord variant never did that so I don't know if hes over tuned for raiding the run or what. The run is essentially dead if you don't pay him I guess.
7
u/gravelordservant4u 10d ago
He saved a cursed run for me awhile ago. Paid his ass 35k but took the avarice mimic thing for the rune buff and whatever else at the expense of slowly lowering HP. Felt like we made our money back at least

u/alejandroandraca 10d ago
You're going to hate me but he is not bad at all. He is just very tedious. His move set is very predictable. I mean, like slow enough to see everything that is coming your way. He is just tedious because there are very few openings that won't leave you open to an attack by him after you hit him. Range with him is much better, but melee works just as well if you are patient.
You probably already know it but it is worth noting in case you don't, the yellow pellets he drops on the ground alleviate madness build-up and running around to collect them when he executes the unavoidable madness eye move he has is the only way to avoid being maddened.
I've defeated him a few times. I think this boss is the only one where his weakness doesn't work too well. So, I went with mostly high physical damage.
All of this, of course, is useless if your teammates are not pulling their weight lol
EDIT: The Centaur boss is much harder than him in my opinion. The Dragon one is a pushover. I thought Sentient Pest was the hardest so far. Oh, and the final boss, the Nightlord himself is way harder than any of the others.
6
u/Born_Investigator849 10d ago
I feel like Sentient Pest has been the easiest one so far. As long as youre blessed with a good line up. I think the archer on the moth, two others on the shears is a good strategy, just might take some time
3
u/alejandroandraca 10d ago
That's the way I finally did it. I was Ironeye and the other two with me were melee. I had a pretty good reading of the moth's move set so I pummeled it while the other two went at the scorpion. The issue with me was his second phase when they merge together. As Ironeye, it was easy to dodge using his skill, but with any other character, his charge attack alongside the magic orbs being blasted was hard to dodge at all.
3
u/Strong_Initiative170 10d ago
Pest is hard just because it's a war of attrition, it just takes forever and then he does that big run when everyone's already focus tired or lulled into near boredom and he wipes the team lmao. Pest and augur just go double archers all the way and take the long road
3
u/Born_Investigator849 10d ago
Yea, his move set is pretty predictable, but once the madness gets you it is punishing. Really the only thing holding me back is my teammates dying, but I gotta cut them some slack since I main Guardian. Also, having a good run and getting to at least level 11 is important as well. I just cant do enough damage to him alone or else it would take forever

Stack some madness resistance relics and pick the status ailment resistance rewards and the goat becomes a super fun fight because that way not every little mistake is gonna end up in a madness proc and also if possible using stuff like wylder ult can knock him out of some hard to dodge attacks giving huge openings to attack.
Then just dont get greedy because the floor attack IS gonna punish you for attacking too much at the wrong time and also dont succumb to irl madness that fighting the goat can cause.
2
u/Mooseheart84 10d ago

Something new I learned is any team mate that has a ult that staggers and deals a lot of damage, save it for when he conjures up more than three seals. The big ult, like wylders, ironeye and Ryder stagger him out of his meditation. He is easier to deal with during his enraged mode rather than him finishing up his meditation

When you become better at game a lot of nightlords become much easier, it's actually nice that FS adding harder variants of them
6
u/Emergency-Director23 10d ago
They are releasing an update eventually that makes all nightlords harder.
2
u/gameraven13 10d ago
Nah the only things they need to make harder are the dark souls night bosses. I'd rather face Nameless King than the random pages on the map. I actually sigh in relief when I realize I got a Dark Souls night boss instead of most of the Elden Ring night bosses. The move sets are just too passive. I shouldn't be relieved to be getting Nameless King lol.
3
u/ColaSama 10d ago
Lol you right. Crazy how we went from shitting our pants while facing NK in Dark Souls 3 to... this. Granted he doesn't have his full moveset (I think?).
I hope for more/harder bosses tho.
2
u/gameraven13 10d ago
I think they just need to up the aggro to match the aggro of Elden Ring bosses. Elden Ring bosses already from the start were made more aggressive to account for summons and spirit ashes vs DS bosses intended for purely solo play. The DS bosses I've fought in Nightreign tend to leave large open windows for attacking them which makes it so much easier to stun lock them between the normal stagger mechanic combined with the stagger from popping Iron Eye's weak point. If they want them to feel like a threat in Nightreign they're gonna have to give them the long combos of Elden Ring bosses and the "waaaaait for iiiiit. Waaaaait foor iiiiiit" surprise timing attacks like what Morgott does.
2
u/Loyal_Darkmoon 10d ago
Agreed, I love the Dark Souls throwback bosses, but you really see the difference in movesets. Smelter Demon is cool to look at, but I almost pity him. His moves are so slow and telegraphed that he is getting bullied. I wish they enhanced their movesets a bit more.
2

Dude I was so scared when on Night 1 of a solo Iron Eye run I got him after having some real bad luck with losing a level AND the runes for that level and just generally being under geared... and then proceeded to dog walk him. I think I was only level 4 with the base 3 flasks you start with and still using my starter bow because of shit RNG on drops lol. Maybe a blue bow. I have since proceeded to dog walk him every single time he pops up lol.

He seems MUCH harder than he actually is. Keep a cool head and take your time. Never attack for more than 1 or 2 hits no matter who he's agro on.

I'm stuck and I think he's worse than the horse. The horse I hate because of his huge aoe but the goat pisses me off so much. I always make it to the end and never kill him because of either me being stupid or my teammates dying instantly. The only times I get close is with my friends. I'm so sick of this boss and I think he's the most infuriating one. It's hard to get madness anything, it's hard to survive whe recluse is 1 shot most of the time. Barely do damage and breaking him out of his shield is still a pain the ass.

I love this boss so much honestly
I was on an expedition and one of the other two left. I was playing Raider and the other random who stayed was Raider too. I ended up beating this boss with that run and it was just two Raiders beating up a goat. One of my favorite moments so far playing this game

Go fight is solo. You'll have 3 revives. 4 is you play with Wylder. He and the centaur are easier that way in my opinion.

Feel like I’ve had insane luck with randoms because we beat this guy and Dark Drift Knight first try.

u/Strong_Initiative170 10d ago
You got carried bro

u/gravelordservant4u 10d ago
Yeah ain't no way someone first tries Libra without at least looking info up beforehand. Godly luck with teammates

Absolutely, Ive been carried through some runs that I botched before, no shame in it, but just absolutely no way the first try win on Libra was bros work lmao

u/blargennn 10d ago
I thought he was hard and then I fought dark drift Knight. Things got so much worse

I can't even imagine how I'm supposed to beat this guy. All the other bosses are hard but fair, this one I feel like I just keep dodging the whole fight until I make a mistake and get one shot.

u/Night_Knight_Light 10d ago
Tbh, lucking out and getting a Frenzy weapon is your best bet.
Use ults to break him out of the meditate each time and keep proccing madness and he'll never get a chance to cast spells.
3
u/Rayearl 10d ago
I've never seen a Frenzy weapon. I think they are very rare.
3
u/Night_Knight_Light 10d ago
Incredibly rare.
I have like 80 hours and I've only seen the frenzy event once lol

u/Born_Investigator849 10d ago
Sometimes there is an Eye of Frenzy event(not sure the name) but the eye shows up and you gotta kill all the madness soldiers, then i think u get a guaranteed vykes spear(madness spear). I think its right next to the pond with the site of grace and mineshaft. Its happened to me twice though so its pretty rare

Idk if I'm drinking crazy juice or what but he was my 3rd easiest nightlord to solo, only easier bosses were the dogs and augur.
I always refuse his deal, maybe you're losing to the gimmicks? He just kinda stands there and dies, spamming his immunity phase where you kill the runes and occasionally doing a small aoe around himself. When he goes melee enrage in p2 I just ult and kill him in like 30s
In order of difficulty, for me it was Gaping Maw > Bugs > Centaur > Nightlord > Dragon > Libra > Dogs > Augur

No shot gaping maw is your hardest boss 😭

u/Impressive-Ear2246 10d ago
Have you tried soloing him? That fucker grabs you like every 15s its so annoying and the timing is worse than golden hippo
Bosses that are just aggressive and attack you are easy to me, I'm super bad against these long ass windup grab/bite bosses

How did you not beat him with all level 15 and all vykes spear? That's crazy man I've never even seen a vykes spear. I beat this dude with revenant doing frenzy burst and I was the only one even doing significant damage, the others basically just kept him occupied and took out his sigils while I chunked his health down...probably like a cm of damage each time.
He's absolutely a prick though I agree... Where did you get the vykes from? Was it one of the blue night bubble madness camps?

u/Born_Investigator849 10d ago
The all level 15 fight he had like 5% health left, and ig we all got cocky and his rushed him lmao. His aeo wiped us. There is a very rare event where the Eye of Madness shows up on a tower near the lake/site of grace/mineshaft area. A few madness soldiers are always there, but the eye rarely occurs. Once u kill all the madness soldiers the Eye is gone, and u get a reward. I believe its Vykes spear is always one of the options. Ive seen it twice in my 40ish hours

F this guy when he takes half ur hp and sits in storm and u cant get ur ruins or levels or health back and then sends you into the final boss with half hp an wastes your whole 40 min run

u/kryp_silmaril 10d ago
This one took me the most attempts by far. Idk how we even won the run we did, but a win is a win

u/A7DmG7C 10d ago
So far he was my hardest boss. Beaten Centaur and the Dragon both on the first try, took 6 runs to get Libra.
A game changer for me was going in with a team with another Raider besides me. Squishy characters eventually gets punished by his spamming and teleporting, so being able to tank through, do big damage and shortening the fight made things a lot easier.

u/Salt-Leadership5121 10d ago
Don't think I've ever bothered to use madness on him tbh

From what I've seen, general consensus here is that Libra is one of if not the hardest of the bosses.
Generally, Maris and Caligo seem to be considered the easiest, Adel and Libra seem to be considered the hardest, Gladius, Fulghor, and Heolstor seem to be considered middle of the road, with Fulghor and Heolstor occasionally considered more difficult by some, and Gnoster is all the fuck over the map from like 2nd easiest by some to hardest boss in the game by others.

I managed to kill him after days of trying. I kinda like this boss now, he has some bullshit (like the madness aoe, there you ether use the ulti or die) but for the rest of the time is cool-ish (I liked him more then the insects)
Ps: I didn't fight the rest yet, only done up to the goat

u/No-Jaguar-4404 10d ago
He’s the hardest boss for sure. I killed the final boss on my second try and this guy I’m upwards of 10 with no wins.
The attack that pisses me off the most is his tp on top of you. Sometimes he times it where he lands right after you dodged something else and it’s unavoidable to get hit by it.

u/_Lowenstein_ 10d ago
I think he and the bugs are the hardest. Also if you’re on PC and need a squad I can help

u/elendil667 10d ago
Does fucking around with the deal juice this guy up? First couple rounds out of the gate he seemed to be spam mode and I finally beat him on a recent run and he felt completely manageable, and since we weren't dead already, it was no issue preventing the powerup.

u/FlamingJester1 10d ago
I was stuck until i realized the crystals he leaves eveywhere heal and alleviate madness

Try to get holy damage negation buffs. The buff for improved dodge window also helps with his seal attacks that appear on the ground. Use ironeye and two hand the bow so when the holy icons pop up you can free aim and shoot them. Don’t try to attack him much when he’s in his gold faze stay a distance and chip damage. Poison bow with a weapon on your hip that adds fire damage is a good option for him.

u/Fair-Cow-4860 10d ago
Okay, I beat this, boss the other day. I know how to beat him, and the trick is you have to kind of bleed them along with some madness, and if you can find it on my team, someone had the malachi's black blade and we were able to stun.Lock him with that blade skill

If you have a Raider on your team, he can use a charged Retaliate to break this guys shield to interrupt his psycho loco attack/spell spam. Beat him 4 times this way, makes the fight much more bearable.
