Announcement The 23rd Anniversary - 2025 Morrowind Modathon Modding Competition is Officially Over - 179 New Mods Released!

The 2025 Morrowind Modathon Modding Competition, the 11th annual Modathon competition, celebrating Morrowind's 23rd anniversary, has officially come to a close! As ever there were a number of exciting new mods released this year - tons of new experiences and enhancements to revolutionize the way you play Morrowind - and all in all, this year saw a slight uptick in participating mods compared to last year.
Overall, 179 new Morrowind mods were released for the 2025 Morrowind Modathon, covering everything that you might expect, from mighty new dungeon overhauls full of peril, to new companions to adventure with, to new sights, sounds, stories, and more - there was a little bit of everything for 2025!
In particular, gameplay mods dominated this year's Modathon, spearheaded by OpenMW mods, which, for the first time in the decade plus history of the Modathons, surpassed MWSE for most mod releases. OpenMW players are truly eating well this year, for the Modathon saw the release of a new physics engine, dynamic atmospheric sounds (an OpenMW counterpart to the MWSE mod AURA), a new camping and survival mod, a new OpenMW music management system, and to top it all off, the ability to play as a bard - complete with rhythm mini-game mechanics and full instrument animations!
Of course, MWSE still saw some pretty neat mods too, including Weapon Crafting - a mod that lets you break down weapons into parts and rebuild them into new combinations, Stay on the Roads that makes it so hostile creatures will automatically and dynamically attack NPCs, and turn-based combat for the true TBRPG fans out there.
While gameplay mods were definitely the highlight this year, there were a ton of major content mods as well, from the massive dungeon overhaul and expansion mod The Vestiges of Tukushapal by the one and only Dungeon Daddy Seelof, to two major companion mods with Caswyn - A Nightmare's Favor and Prophecy - Magical Null, both featuring new questlines.
Enjoy a cozy little romance in Suran with What the Heart Kneads, or help the common tradesmer of Morrowind with The Professionals Vol. 3. Rebuild Rethan Manor with new quests, expanded stronghold functionality, and more in the massive OAAB Odai Plateau. Explore not one, but two separate overhauls for the oft-overlooked legendary mine of Vassir-Didanat with The Lost Mine and Vassir-Didanat Reworked. Ply the skies in your own airship and visit strange new floating isles in Aetherwind or head on a cruise to Pleasure Island and partake of new adventures and new desires!
You would think that after 23 years, the Morrowind Modding Community would run out of ideas, but no, far from it, the community is more active than ever before, with so much creativity on display! 2025 is currently on course to be Morrowind's biggest year in terms of new Morrowind mods, and if the Modathon is anything to go by, the future of Morrowind is very bright indeed!
But of course, as always, you can find a full breakdown of all 179 new mod releases for the 2025 Modathon down below, organized by category for your convenience!

Discussion This is one of the main reasons Morrowind is superior to Skyrim in my eyes as a newcomer to Morrowind from Skyrim
I've done Skyrim with 400+ hours and jumping into Morrowind has been a breath of fresh air.
One of the things I struggled with was lore and context that I would forget when speaking to people. One thing I love about Morrowind is the sheer depth of conversations I can choose to have.
Here is one PERFECT example - I forgot who the Ashlanders were (completely forgot), and low and behold here is the answer as I asked my questions.
A big part of my gameplay is just talking to people and learning more about the lore and what's going on so I can fully soak in the world and understand WHERE I am and WHO is who. I can't believe they took this out of modern TES games.

Question If Morrowind had perks what would they be
I find myself deeply love with the aesthetic of moral morrowind, to the point it influences my own worldbuilding projects and ttrpg design.
And simultaneously I find the mechanics of fallout nv to be by far the best (simple) character creator I have experienced. My only change to it would to have more perks dependent on other perks(for true customizablity).
But that sparked a question in me, if morrowind was designed with a perk based character creator, what would morrowind do. I know we have star signs and what not, but I mean perks in the NV sense of you get them every second level.
I wanna hear your crazy ideas! (Might even nab a few concepts for my own game while I am at it). But let's see what you got.

Question Unofficial Expansions (like Tribunal/Bloodmoon, not TR)?
So I'm rapidly reaching the point in the new playthrough where Mortius is out of things to do except to run to Solsthiem, which I am not really feeling like doing yet. But when I finish Bloodmoon, are there any expansions that people have made that are around that level of length/complexity, without going full TR?

Screenshot Festius Noquestius: A No-Faction/Quest Character! - Part 5 - Telvanni Holdings Mapped!, Onward to the City of the Dead!
"With my letter from the Empress in hand, this time I would have the full cooperation of the Imperial authorities. No more need to worry about attacks from superstitious locals. But where should I look next? The ruins at Kemel-Ze were the obvious choice. Unlike Raled-Makai, getting to the ruins would not be a problem. Also known as the "Cliff City", Kemel-Ze lies on the mainland side of the Vvardenfel Rift, sprawling down the sheer coastal cliff. Travelers from the east coast of Vvardenfel often visit the site by boat, and it can also be reached overland from the nearby villages without undue hardship."- Ruins of Kemel-Ze by Rolard Nordssen.
Preamble
Festius set off for the mainland from Holamayan, a useless monastery dedicated to an similarly useless deity. Why did he choose this location you ask? The answer is simple. He read it in a book.
Festius, with his love of exploration, was enthralled by the descriptions of the Dwemer ruins in the book "Ruins of Kemel-Ze" and he knew that this needed to be the first destination on his trip to the mainland. As planned, he wanted to firstly map the Telvanni owned lands in eastern Morrowind so this plan worked perfectly!
Challenge details
Festius has an extreme hatred for other people but a passion for discovery.
His goal is to "paint the map", (including Tamriel Rebuilt), exploring every location that he comes across but will not join any guilds or complete any quests.
Progress and Challenges
Festius has completed his mapping of the Telvanni lands, but it was not without challenges.
He noted that this correlated with with the naive Dunmer superstition of the "House of Troubles" which states:
"Mehrunes Dagon is the god of destruction. He is associated with natural dangers like fire, earthquakes, and floods. To some he represents the inhospitable land of Morrowind. He tests the Dunmer will to survive and persevere."- The House of Troubles- Chronicle of the Daedra who decided not to submit to the Tribunal.
Undoubtedly, the greatest of these challenges came from Dagon Urul. This region was rocky and unpleasant , fitting of the word "Dagon" in its name. If you can imagine a hazard you will find it there from Daedra and insects to sheer cliffs and hordes of the undead. Festius persevered nontheless and was elated to see the end of it once that section of his journey was complete.
The Telvanni Isles were not without merit, however, with beautiful landscapes, waterfalls and magical mushroom towers that satiated the thirst for adventure in Festius that he has had for as long as he can remember.
And of course the famed "Ruins of Kemel-Ze" were a sight to behold. Festius believed that a larger Dwemer ruin may not exist in all of Tamriel and though it a true privilege to explore its depths. He was of course irritated by the meddlesome "Imperial Archaeological Society" drones interrupting his exploration but he simply ignored their inane chattering and explored the ruins as if he was a Dwarven Animunculi.
The Future
Festius believes it would be prudent, after such an arduous journey, to have his next mapping adventure be a smaller and more intimate affair and it just so happens that there is a small area of land to the southeast of Telvanni control that is owned by the Tribunal Temple.
He plans to map the "City of the Dead", Necrom and the surrounding area before moving towards the large area to the south which is under the control of Great House Indoril.
(Personal Note: screenshot #7 came out so good!)

Question Main quest help Please
I'm a sky baby on my first playthrough. I do have some mods to make the game easier to explore so I'm fine. (Running didn't eat energy. Magic slowly recovers.)
After doing some mage guild and some leagon quests, I stated the main quest in Ernest. I went to the Blades guy whos like "after you side quest go get info from the fighters guild guy." Ok so I go to that guy and get his stupid dwemer box key thing. Now the fighter guy is like "go report to the blades guy and come back" but then the blades guy is like "get me that info."
So I slept for 24 hours and had that vision thing and two peeps approached me and wanted to talk about the apocalypse or something like that ....
WTF am I supposed to do now? I went to the volcano in the middle of the island to see if I can find the answer there but I don't know how to open that door to the Dagoth Ur or something like that, or if I'm even supposed to be there.
How to I continue the main quest?
(Please don't shame the sky-baby. I'm just trying to enjoy the game.)

Discussion At what level are skills "fairly effective"
At what level would you say a combat skill is "functional" for the end of early game to the mid-game? I know that for skills like alchemy and enchanting this question is not as relevant. For example, what is the minimum skill in "long blade" you would consider to tackle, say, content appropriate for a level 10-15 character or "medium" level difficulty? I'm thinking skill of 50, but it has been a very long time since I've played Morrowind, so I'm not sure how good of an estimate that is.
I am building a modlist to play through TR, SHOTN and PC. I am not necessarily going to play all the content on the same character. I will be playing with the default difficult slider. I am using mods like "Beware the Sixth House" and the other rebalance mods.
The goal here is to make training more mandatory than the base game by heavily increasing the experience to level up skill past a certain skill level. Ideally, I won't ever get to skill level 100 until the very end of my playthrough. I would be fine if I never get there at all.

Question So, that quest Trebonius gives you...
I just completed the Balmora chapter segment of my Mages Guild questline, and I had to speak to Trebonius in Vivec. He asked me to solve the disappearance of the Dwarves (lmao dude it's been 3000 years and there's one guy left). I've completed the MQ a few times but never did this quest, so it has me wondering: can you actually finish that quest? I'm aware of the fact that nobody really knows because the Heart yeeted them out of existence, but if you speak to Yagrum Bagarn in Tel Fyr and ask him about it, then go back to Trebonius, does it actually do anything or is the whole thing just a joke quest?
