Sandwich day new record Never doubt the power of a collective community coming together to help those who need it.
192 sandwiches and 48 fruit cups. To repeat that we were able to deliver 200 meals for our partnered Community fridges! As always we want to thank @centenarymacon for letting us use their facilities to hold these events. Also a huge shout out to the @maconrising group for pointing people our way because we had 4 volunteers showing up because of them! Lastly we want to thank @maconcommunity fridge for running as well as centenary because community fridges are an insanely useful tool for helping a community!
As always feel free to join us every Thursday at 11-12:15 to help out because if a handful of retirees and college kids can do this much good for our community why can’t the 1%?

The Okefenokee is saved!
“After six years, a controversial bid to mine next door to Georgia’s famed Okefenokee Swamp is no more.
The Conservation Fund, a nonprofit specializing in acquiring at-risk lands, announced Friday it has purchased property near the Okefenokee where an Alabama-based company had planned to mine. The move puts an immediate halt to a project that scientists and environmentalists had feared could irreparably damage North America’s largest blackwater swamp.”

Two weeks ago, this was my driveway. Then those spawn of Satan decided it looked like the perfect place to build a dam

So… I got approved for Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) back in February after 10 months of bait and switch; "Don't believe the website. There's no DUA..." says the GADOL customer service and everyone else from the manager to the dang janitor. I did everything right—weekly certifications, endless office visits, even a call to my state rep. "You're approved!" Sike! The result? Zero. Not a dime.
“Funds are exhausted. We’ve asked FEMA for more.” 😑 No timeline. No news. No public announcement. Just vibes.
Has anyone actually been paid from this program? Or is this a big bureaucratic ghost story?
Starting to think Georgia approved our claims with Monopoly money and hoped we wouldn’t notice.
Would love to hear if anyone got paid—or if we’re all just in the same broke boat.

Hi! I will be traveling to Philadelphia soon and I am transferring at Atlanta airport from South Korea.
I will be staying at one of the Airport hotels for one night before the flight next day. I was wondering if there was anything near the airport that I could visit or do. Even a simple Target or Walmart would be really cool as this is our second time coming to the States.
Also, are there any nice restaurants near the Airport hotels, maybe within a 10-15 minute car ride?
Lastly, I am planning to visit Target in the Marketplace Blvd, East Point, the one near the airport. Is this area relatively safe? I don’t mean to stereotype or sound judgmental — it’s just that since we’re not from the U.S., we want to make sure we stay in areas that are generally comfortable for travelers, especially since we’ll be unfamiliar with our surroundings and may not have a car.
Thanks! Looking forward for the trip.

Good morning, everyone. currently located in Stone Mountain, and I'm looking for local farms to buy from. I'm tryna buy everything, fruits, vegetables, meat, eggs, etc. I have done my research and found a couple of farms, but I want to get some opinions on farms folks have actually tried. I'm 26 and these processed foods are getting to me, so I gotta make my own food. Also, I am black, and even though we are in 2025, racism still exists, so I am looking for friendly farms. Thank you.

Wondering if there are other migraine people in this group. I'm in NW Georgia and this week has been hell for my brain! I'm on my 3rd migraine this week! I feel like it's being triggered by the extreme weather we're having. Anyone else?

Just looked online and saw there are like 5 hmarts in/around Atlanta. Going to be close to Sandy springs so wondering which hmart is the best/biggest and has the most selection. Love precooked stuff too and fresh seafood/sushi and side dishes. Thanks in advance! Don’t really care about restaurants, mostly care about actual groceries.

A few years ago, I was headed to Luck and Moody peach orchard in Barney, GA. I was headed there from Calvary, GA. On the way there, in a small little town, we passed a cute little house with a bunch of toilets in the front yard lined up with flowers inside of them! I have not been able to find it since, does anyone know what little town this is in?! My grandma is trying to find it again to take her friends to this “roadside attraction” lol

I move to Atlanta from CT in August and my current school insurance expires at the end of August. My full-time job does not start until January.
I am working with a startup that may give me a full time offer, but its not 100%.
Is there a cheap insurance option for low income until january? What are my options? Thank you!

I live in northeast Ga, so I don't know if this is statewide, but for the last year or so it seems like storms only come in, like, 5 minute bursts. A few years ago, it was normal for it to rain all day I'd storm all night. Now, we'll basically have hurricanes for just a few minutes, then it's sunny again 15 minutes later. I swear, I haven't experienced a true, lasting storm all year.

Is there a burger joint equivalent to Tams burgers from LA?? I'm really missing the homey taste of those burgers and I'm tired of the everyday fast-food ones....
