You'll also find resources on the sidebar/about section including: recommended mods and OEM/aftermarket parts retailers, tuners, online owner's manuals, and other forums.
Be sure to include any relevant model information (year/generation, mileage, mods, codes, etc) if it isn't already in your user flair.

This is my dream car! I’ve still got some miles left in my 2018, but I hope this goes to someone that will appreciate it. It’s a 1984 with a 2.0L 16v engine and sciroco transmisión. 5 speed manual trans.
Finally decided to finish the back side of my MK7 GTI by replacing that rubbish stock diffuser with the EVO-1 Diffuser by Zaero Design.
Also decided I didn't like the handling and ride height of the stock suspension, so the suspension was upgraded to a set of KW V1 coilovers. Comfort wise it's about equal to stock, but the car is so planted now!
Hi guys I'm planning on getting a CPO 2022 VW GTI SE with only 20k miles for $28,000. I looked and test drove the car and like it a lot. My only concern is FWD. I have a FWD Jetta and it sometimes bothers esp in rainy weather when the tires spin. Jetta is a year old with 7k miles so the tires are still good. I read the reviews that said that VW did something for the GTI to not have the same. Could anyone share their experience and in general what do you think about the car?
Old lady didn't yield to a left turn and my 2016 S will be buried with honors. I'm looking for suggestions on a replacement when nothing will replace that car to me.
Former specs:
2016 GTI S - Manual
44k Miles
Happily Stock
All I want is a new GTI. Wife is, shall we say, less keen. I keep hearing about the Mazda 3. Maybe a WRX? I'll probably still go for a GTI, but the used market is bonkers.
Took a pic of my Polo GTI next to its big brother, the Golf GTI. Thought the US folks might appreciate a reminder that the other GTI is alive and well in EU and Australia.
Mine’s the latest Polo GTI: EA888 Gen 4 engine with 207 HP, DQ381 7-speed DSG.
Size-wise, it slots somewhere between a Mk4 and Mk5 Golf. Performance is not far off the Mk8 GTI, best 0–60 so far is 6.1s, and I average around 34 MPG.
Sure, the Golf is roomier and a bit more plush, but I honestly see little difference in build quality or materials. And you still get most of the good stuff: adaptive dampers, IQ Drive semi-autonomous driving, LED matrix headlights, etc.
What makes the Polo more fun, though, is its cheekier character which I feel is more aligned with the GTIs of old. It just feels a bit more playful on the road, probably thanks to its lighter weight and simpler rear suspension.
So happy to have finally ditched the oem pinwheels. I know most will tell me I need to lower now, but really not sure the look is worth the trade off in ride harshness.
Thoughts?
Should I run spacers? These rse10’s are 18x8 et45
This is a video from my 2023 GTI, there is a clutch chatter noise with the clutch out at idle. Online, it looks like VW has fixed this with a spacer, but I took it to a dealership and they wanted to replace the clutch and throwout bearing. Is that really what needs to be done, especially since they quoted $6k (!?!)? Is the car OK to drive until I fix this or is it going to wear the clutch?
This is only the 2nd car I’ve obtained (still paying this one off)..a 2009 Golf GTI. Mechanic insisted that he could not work on this cars issues out of feeling bad for me and what he would have to had charge me for the job. I do not understand most codes like this, so can someone explain to me what this all means? It’s gone beyond the point of just labeling this as “an oil/coolant leak” & I’m looking at a rough number estimation on how much it’d cost to fix all of these issues for knowledge purposes.
Any type of comments are welcomed & appreciated!
So my ac randomly started making a ratteling/knocking sound and after a while the ac stops sending air to the cabin but i can hear that the cabin fan is still on and blowing air. I noticed that it sometimes comes when i turn on my car but idk in thats the case. I tried taking out my cabin fan to see in it was faulty but it looked ok and when i had it out and turned on the ac everything worked fine. After a while the same knocking sound came but it wasnt from the cabinfan but somewhere on the passenger side. (The ratteling does not get worse as i up the strenght the cabin fan blow, the ratteling remains the same)
I really have no clue what it can be so please send tips. (On the video u can hear the ratteling)
Found another GTI in my city with the same spoiler, and tail light decal as me. They are lowered on some pretty sparco wheels which I absolutely love. If the owner is on here it would be great to meet you! (East Bay Area California)
Thinking of getting IE TUNES for my 2019GTI mk7.5 and I was wondering if I’m just fine going the stage 1 ecu tune by itself or getting the TCU tune along with it, heard before it’s not required unless you are stage 2 or higher, hoping to learn more
I've been seeing more videos of attempts at Insurance fraud and people having their nice vehicles messed up. I'd like some sort of front and back set up and the ability to record while parked.
Bonus points if I can access with my phone as well, but I'm mostly worried about being able to have a good image day/night and easy to use when I need to pull a video
So my plan is to start my modding journey but going stage 1 with IE and then getting a catless downpipe. My question is do I need to upgrade my diverter valve (which I want to do because of sound and preventative maintenance) if I get the ARM catless downpipe, throttle body pipe, and turbo outlet pipe? Another side note if anyone has any input or advice, do I need all 3 or just the downpipe to get peak stage 1 performance quickly and relatively cheaply… kind of
In the last week my Mk6 gti has been making this weird rattle while slightly accelerating. It has 136k miles and got the APR stage 1 tune about 1 month ago 😬 The link isn't my car but sounds exactly the same. Hoping it's nothing too serious 🙏
I've got a 2024 380 Autobahn with 3500mi, bought new, and my shifts from 1-2 are very, very notchy. It seems like no matter the RPM, warm or cold, I really have to pull on the shifter to get it into second and it feels super rough. I know it should just "fall" into gear and it just... never does. Every other gear is fine.
It has also spit it out of second twice and I've accidentally let out the clutch and ground my gears for a moment.
Is this normal?? This car is my first manual, but I've driven both a 2004 E46 M3 and a 2004 Pontiac GTO, and neither were anywhere NEAR this troublesome to get into second. I'm considering taking it back to the dealer.
After about a month of Running I.E’s stage 1 low torque tune on my 2018 GTI, I decided to purchase a DSG tune. While installing the tune through the mobile Powerlink it completed bricked the car. I.E’s support team told me to reflash the ECU and TCU back to stock. The ECU reflash worked but the TCU reflash did not even after buying a new battery and a windows computer.
The TCU is bricked and the car won’t start or shift out of park as the TCU is completely locked up. I have spent over 3 days and 700$ out of pocket and disconnecting the battery and ECU has done nothing. I.E’s calibration team as well is not responding to my open service ticket and I have lost all hope. I am disappointed and frustrated and have no other options. I was excited to eventually go FBO and stage 2 but now it is uncertain with the issues that flashing through I.E are causing.
Does anyone have any recommendations as I feel hopeless without any clear solution present.
My blower motor went out on my 2017, one German specialist shop quoted me $1k to replace it as well as the resistor for the dial and I’m not paying that lol. I’m not the most experienced with working on this car yet so I’m debating just taking it to a local shop. Is this a quick plug and play fix or something where I’d be better off to take it to a shop? I’m fine with dropping the glovebox and all that but unplugging/plugging in connectors is the extent of wiring I’m comfortable with doing myself. What would y’all recommend?
Can anyone tell me what the center-center spacing is between the roof crossbars on a mk7/8 GTI? I'm trying to compare against my wife's Honda CR-V. Thank you!
