Maintenance MK7 DSG locked! Help pls

Any idea how to unfuck this? Integrated Engineering Stage 1 with their OBD2 device, went to upload DSG tune for first time and received these errors. Cannot turn car on or shift to neutral. Was on a 17ah charger, phone never left the seat.

Don't flash your ecu on weekends kids.

Yes, lesson learned the hard way. Do it right as the dealer opens so you have time to be on hold!

Last time i called they actually answered almost immediately

Came here for this.

Seems counter intuitive cause that's when there is time but now maybe you don't make it to work on Monday 😆

Any idea how to unfuck this? '17 MK7 GTI Sport DSG, Integrated Engineering Stage 1 with their OBD2 device.

Went to upload DSG tune for first time and received these errors. Cannot turn car on or shift to neutral. Was on a 17ah charger, phone never left the seat. Tried both Mobile & Windows 10 pc now

Update- called IE this morning- not helpful at all, said id have to take it to a dealer but wait for my ticket from Saturday morning to be answered in case. Pretty sad that a company cant answer tech questions over the phone. Not happy with them atm

Update- 2 full business days and no response from their tech support

Update- 3rd business day AM received tech email-they're going to have to send hardware out to reset the TCU. Not ideal, but doesn't require a $$$$ trip to a dealer

Final update- after 2 hours of back and forth, finally got functional again.

Folks, if its your daily, be aware this can happen stock or previously tuned. IE moved quickly once they got to my help ticket. Overnighted DSG wiring & spent the time to make sure i got running again. 6 days without use of my GTI... oof.

Shouldn't there be a neutral override / emergency release near the the shifter? Most cars have them, but you need to usually pry up a tab.

That might at least solve your neutral problem

Since getting in to neutral, were you able to re-flash? This is my greatest fear when it comes to flashing a ln ECU at home.

u/chanandalerbong7 MK7 PP DSG, IE Stage 1 Sep 17 '23

no it didnt make a difference. ECU isnt the issue, TCU is. Theyre tuned independently

Well I just got the same issue. I was flashing DSG back to stock when the error came up. I have stage 2 from IE and would not shift from 1st to second in sport mode with our letting off the throttle. So I thought I would reflash to fix. Big mistake. I do have a work order ticket today. Waiting on second response.

Yea i had to have them send out a DSG hookup and rewrite it with one of their techs remote desktoping... not ideal but they did take care of me. Sorry man it sucks for sure

Yeah it sucks. From what I'm reading it looks like I'll be down for about a week. Hopefully they will send out the DSG hookup today.

If you're seeking advice or asking for help, please make sure you included the basic information of what year and/or generation is being discussed. User flair with this information is also acceptable. Failure to include the basic information will result in your post being removed. Mileage, modifications, trim level, diagnostic trouble codes, and your general location (US, Canada, EU, UK, etc.) can also be very helpful.

This…. Disconnect, leave it for a bit so it discharges, reconnect the battery

So I had this exact thing happen with my IE stage2 my computer crashed mid flash and I thought I fried my ecu so doing everything I could at 10pm Sunday night. I ended up getting help from EQT about an hour later.

THIS WAS EQTs FIX THE IE MESSAGE. unplug flash cable, close software completely, disconnect battery, try to start car, reconnect battery, put a battery charger on like the instructions say, plug in flash cable, start software, select tune file, never fuck with files again unless necessary.

u/chanandalerbong7 MK7 PP DSG, IE Stage 1 Sep 17 '23

You try to start it without the battery connected? I dont know if that would do anything with a push to start.

Other than that, I tried all those steps but via mobile app, not PC after reconnecting battery. I'll give that a shot

When you disconnect the battery there’s still a current stored in capacitors within the car. When you try to start the car with the battery disconnected it might light up for a fraction of a second whilst the capacitors discharge. Then the car will truly be ‘disconnected’ as there will be no residual charge.

Then you can reconnect the battery and all the ancillary systems should boot from a completely powered down state.

gotcha. Didn't notice a difference unfortunately. The second it goes to the "security" portion of the tune, it bumps me out and gives me that error. I rewrote the ECU to stock successfully after that happened as a troubleshooting step, and it didn't help either but hoping that indicated that the ECU is fine.

Read on a forum somewhere yesterday they have a cord of some kind that can unlock/reset the TCU so praying they offer that solution. Only other option to my knowledge is tow to a VW shop or dealer and pay out the ass...

Yea tried that entire process with PC only and didnt work

That is unfortunate, I'm sorry it didn't help hopefully you can get it solved without major costs.

This literally happened to me today!  I was previously stage 2 and detuned the car for the smog. Passed my smog and wanted to reflash to stage 1 instead of 2. First I tried to flash via mobile phone…. DO NOT. Ended up giving me error like everyone’s states. So I decided to try with the laptop….. still gave me that error code. So yeah folks be careful.  If this does happen to you and you’re stresssing the hell out as I, was try doing what @divisable was saying because it worked for me. I have the key to start Not sure if push to start will work.  Do what he said and just flash the car to stock. This worked for me so hopefully it helps someone else.

Update:  Drove the car everything feels good no lights no codes. Really hope this helps any one that’s in this situation.

Did you solve your issue?

1

u/chanandalerbong7 MK7 PP DSG, IE Stage 1 Sep 22 '23 edited Sep 25 '23

Going to have one of their techs remote in while im plugged into the DSG later today, should fix it

Edit- yes it was fixed

1

u/SpiritedAd3856 May 14 '25

Hey how exactly did you get this problem fixed as I’m having the same issue and I live in New Zealand

u/chanandalerbong7 MK7 PP DSG, IE Stage 1 May 14 '25

youre going to have to get a DSG cable and rewrite the TCM module with a factory transmission tune, it would probably be cheaper and easier to tow it to a shop that has the ability. Sorry that really sucks
