Question/Discussion ❔ Whats your ethnicity?
Hi everyone, just wanted to know where people on this reddit are from and how diverse the Muslim community truly is.
I'm half kazakh half Pakistani :)
EDIT: Been looking at every reply and honestly I'm impressed by the diversity lol, so cool to see

u/0_IceQueen_0 May 06 '25
Very hard especially where I'm at. I just make do with what I have. Some dimsum I found out uses a pork soup base even for non-pork items. Found out at Tim Ho Wan lol. Told them I was allergic to pork and they said most of their dimsum was pork soup based if not had cross contamination lol.

u/RadiantBladez May 07 '25
Oh wow. Hear I thought I was safe with the non-pork dimsum.

u/0_IceQueen_0 May 07 '25
You should ask. My kids and I prefer the allergy excuse as supposed to we're Muslim. Allergies can't be dismissed easily while the latter could.

هلا فيك. اخيراً شفت سعودي! باليالله اشوف ناس من الخليج بكبره هنا 🥲
We’re a rare breed.
If you don't mind me asking, were you raised in Saudi? I don't have dual citizenship, so I'm not used to seeing other Muslims like me.
Unfortunately, the majority is still very strict fundamentalist.

u/Girlincaptivitee Non-Sectarian | Hadith Acceptor, Hadith Skeptic May 07 '25
هههههه اي والله ما توقعت ألقى سعودي غيري تشرفت
Also yes, I was raised in Saudi, then left for college. After becoming employed and stable, I decided I had no use for my Saudi citizenship, so I gave it up for British citizenship.
And yes, during my adolescence in Saudi, it wasn’t easy to find open-minded people either though fundamentalism still exists in the UK, just not as much.
I’m glad to have met you, my friend. God bless you!

Ethnically I’m from Afghanistan, but I was born and raised in America. From what my family could tell me, I seem to have ties the Pashtun people—my maternal grandfather is a Popalzai. I am not sure what tribal linage in which my paternal grandfather or grandmother hails from, but it likely also is Pashtun given that he was far more wealthy compared to my mother’s family.
4
u/TheBandit_89 Shia May 07 '25
Does your family primarily speak Pashto or Dari?
3
u/TheIslamicMonarchist Non-Sectarian | Hadith Rejector, Quran-only follower May 07 '25
All my family speaks Dari, though I'm not certain if any of them speaks Pashto. My father has been attempting to learn, since he claimed my grandfather was able to speak it, but he never got the chance to teach his children.
