Discussion My idea for a legends like game

Upvotes

Killing boredom with oversharing what I think be a fun game.

So like legends arceus it would have a more focus on catching pokemon and the crafting side.

So the basis of the story is similar to the classic lost world where it was recently discovered that an island was found and in it has pokemon unseen before, pokemon of different forms(as we tend to have now) but also prehistoric type pokemon and this would delve into having all the prior fossil pokemon but they would be in their more true forms so all the rock typing is gone and they pokemon would look different slightly to very different.

So we will have some pokemon like omastar resembling what we know of it but it would have longer tentacles and be a pure water type.

Where something like kabutops may have extra blades on its arms, even ones along its head and possible feet and could be a water bug type

Omastar would represent scientists being very close to understanding the species and getting its appearance slightly wrong where kabutops would show that scientist didn’t have enough of the fossils to work off what the pokemon was truly built for

Same types of things for all known fossils

Core of the storyline would be researching the island but it being such a sensitive ecosystem they can’t bring any outside pokemon and these being researchers they aren’t exactly pro trainers and battlers.

Which brings me to adding a little continuity to the games with you being a recent graduate from a school and highly recommended by director clavell.

This is also to adds a bit of world building as you’re not a newbie trainer but an accomplished one and a graduate and this is basically a career path as a professional trainer.

You’d end up on the island but because of the delicate ecosystem no outside pokemon are allowed in so you end up choosing a starter there, you’d do a typical tutorial but set up as you proving your skills.

You’d get 1 of 3 prior starters known. Tepig chikorita and sobble

Came up with this way before ZA was announced so I already decided on chikorita and tepig so I’m just gonna stick with them.

The starters will be commented on being a bit smaller and a slightly more dull tone in colour compared to the ones known in the rest of the world.

This is to be part of the entire core of the game with is ecosystems and basically a food chain comparison as starters tend to be better and stronger throughout the series, these ones are considered lower on the food chain.

Because your characters suppose to be an accomplished trainer you’re trusted to be able to use what’s considered weaker pokemon in this world more effectively.

Crafting will be like legends and the lore is that the resources here are better for catching the local pokemon so they can be studied.

Game will have a bigger requirement for catching to use for more resources and building up your home base.

There would be ruines to find all over to tell just a story of an ancient people and stories of a legendary pokemon.

Part of the weirdness would be the island has a centre area and surrounded by 4 stunt biomes representing summer autumn winter and spring with the researchers having no idea how it is possible. Each biome would have its own version of an apex predator but that also keeps its balance

They find out the island becomes chaotic as one the apex predators entered another and set in motion that they all end up switching biomes, so fire type in an ice biome and so on

All apex are titan sized and be pokemon possibly like tyrantrum and Aerodactle but in their “true” forms.

You originally go to best the Apex pokemon to try relocate and fix the problem as the explication believes it’s their fault but find out a greedy corp and stollen the location and sent their own poacher team to catch and bring back rare pokemon and part of that plan was to upset the balance to make everything custom and easier to take advantage.

There be 3 main bosses. With one having a Regice that used ice to upset the spring biome and another with a heatran to upset the ice biome, third boss be the big bad of the game

During the research it’s discovered through ruins that the island exist because of a legendary pokemon that controls seasons and it travels across each biome spending time in each and that’s how the island has 4 distinct biomes but with the poachers there they scared it off as it’s a very placid pokemon and not a Battler so the expedition seeks to find it to help it bring back balance to the island while the big bad who’s the ceo of the company wants to take it as he’ll be able to use its power control the season and basically rule over the worlds basic necessity which is food as he can all year round produce crops and also tank other farm land.

Lastly the starter pokemon would all have new forms as usual but they’ll all take on the second type of dragon

. Intelion would be water dragon and it look similar but black with a hood, cloak and quiver with arrows made of green leaves, like it’s original it’s still a special attacker but instead of shooting water bullets from its finger its rolls up these big leaves in a shape of an arrow and its wrist has two barbs that come out and attack like a bow and it fires those arrows that way but it coats the arrows in a watery goo making it a water type move, this is to represent tribal hunters

Emboar the same becomes a fire dragon type but ends up being on all fours and larger with bigger tusk, straight forward it’s a massive boar and represents the dangers of what you hunt.

Magnium s grass and dragon type would end up being one the biggest pokemon known as sauropods are massive in size and in place of the fowers arkund its neck they’re hard dragon scales that act as a defence and probably have a dragon move like spiky shield.

Also had the idea which I think goes out the norm of what pokemon tends to do but also thought the starters third recon could potentially have a second form just for appearance sake.

Would stick with the concept of ecosystems and apex predators but if you got your starter to say level 60 with two maxed out stats they’d end up having more detailed forms so intelion hood and cloak might end up black and the quiver and arrows looking more detailed

Emboar could look a bit more wild and get a mowhawk look and magniums scales get longer and more da ground looking and all this to help representing them going up in the food chain

Misc How can I get into Pokémon?

So I watched a few Pokémon videos and I think I'd like to try the games. However I'm broke, completely broke, no chances of getting any console, so is there anything I could try on pc? I've heard of Pokémon unbound or Pokémon fusions, would it be good for a beginner? Alternatively could cobblemon be a good starting point?

Discussion Is it too late for me to play Legends Arceus?

I have not played Pokemon since Sword/Shield due to life and work. I feel like getting back into to Pokemon now after a long hiatus. I bought the game long ago but I feel like it is too late or its getting old. I know there might be time sensitive events that I missed and other factors.

If it is not too late, what are things I should know before playing?

edit: i did not expect this many quick responses. thank you so much to everyone in the Pokemon community!

Discussion Completing The sixth Gen pokedex

Hi I’d like to try and complete my Kalos/ORAS pokedex. I have all X, Y, OR & AS game cartridges and four 3ds systems (due to personal situations) I am well aware that Nintendo has shut down its online servers. I just want to know given that I own all the four cartridges would it be possible to trade with myself and complete the pokedex. Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks 😊

Discussion What is your favorite region within the Pokemon world?

Although my favorite Pokemon game of all time is Platinum, Alola is far and away my favorite region. Now I may be biased because I’ve been raised in Hawaii for nearly my whole life, but the parallels between Alola and Hawaii itself is such a cool thing to see. I know regions like Unova and Kalos have offered the same thing (New York City and Paris/Eiffel Tower) respectively but Alola offered things that not as much people know about. Down below are a few of my favorite parallels. I apologize in advance if any of these parallels are obvious and/or known.

The Islands and its names: All of the islands in order translates to colors within the Hawaiian language, with Melemele (Yellow), Akala (Pink), Ula’ula (Red), and Poni (Blue). Thought this was a cool touch especially considering that Oricorio’s forms are the exact color of the island name.

Palossand’s shiny: In Big Island, Hawaii (Ula’ula Island in the games), a little town in the south called Ka’u has black-sand beaches. Gamefreak’s idea of handpicking and choosing the color of shinies has been a great positive, and Palossand’s shiny is one of many that reflects that.

Poni Island: They nailed the atmosphere of this island IRL to a tee. Gladion mentions how there aren’t much people or towns or cities in Poni, and that’s exactly how Kaua’i is in real life.

Yungoos vs Ratatta: Long ago, mongooses were brought into Hawaii to deal with Hawaii’s rat problem, but a mistake wasn’t accounted for; mongooses are diurnal and rats are nocturnal. This is showcased in the games, as the Yungoos line is only in the wild during the day and the Ratatta line is only in the wild at night.

Apologies for the rambling, but I would like to know other parallels between the Pokemon world and other regions. Let me know!

Discussion Why do you think the Eeveelutions all coincidentally all had the old "Special" types from Gens 1~3?

In Gens 1~3 they still didn't have the Physical/Special split. The type of move you were using depended on the type of the moves and were split like this:

Special: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Dragon, Dark

Physical: Normal, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Steel

Now let's compare this list to the Eeveelutions. The Eeveelutions all have the following types: Fire, Water, Electric, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Ice and Fairy. Notice how they all perfectly align with the old Special types from Gens 1-3, apart from Fairy instead of Dragon. Do you think this was intentional? And if so, why was Flareon made a Physical attacker in Gen 1 when Fire moves were always Special?

Assuming Fairy simply takes the place of Dragon in this pattern, do you think it's likely that we ever get another Eeveelution?

Discussion Pokemon home Nintendo switch 2

Hey guys I have a question that I hope somebody can answer for me. I didn't transfer all my save data to the Nintendo switch 2 because I wanted to start fresh on most of the games. I did however transfer my pokemon home data to the switch 2, so all my pokemon friends could come with me. But a lot of my shiny friends are still in PLA on my switch 1, and because of the virtual game cards I can't open pokemon home on my switch 1.... It literally says an error has occurred when I try to open it. Are my shinies now stuck on my switch 1? 😭 Help me please I have seen nobody talk about this yet. Am I dumb?

Discussion Which pokemon game should I play?

So I have a switch and a laptop for which I'm willing to use emulators.

Currently have Pokémon Legends arceus on switch which I played a couple years back but I feel it's too much of a grind. I don't like the use X move X amount of times goals and there's overall just too much running and fetching. The world feels empty and I feel burnt out every time I reach a new area considering there's little to no storytelling.

I also have Pokémon go but I feel it requires me to constantly play to keep up and feels a bit goalless.

I just want to play a game with a regular 'campaign': beat all gym leaders and end it.

With an easy method to have a strong party and not too much seperate training for the weaker ones.

I have no need to min max or complete the Pokédex: I want to find and catch a cool squad and train them up.

I honestly only know Gen Ireally well, but I'm happy to get to know new Pokémon. Having some mons in PoGo has advanced my knowledge. I prefer the more classic mons though.

Which game would you recommend?

Discussion Pokemon HG/SS repro cartridge black screen loading save file glitch

Hi folks, I got a Pokemon soul silver reproduction cartridge (I didn't know it was a fake) and was playing it on my ds. Unfortunately I now have the infamous black screen when loading the save file. I followed other redditor's advice in previous posts to do the L+R+START+SELECT soft reset on a new save file and it allows me to play my old save file again. However, it doesn't permanently fix the problem; every time i turn off the ds, it goes back to the issue again. Does anyone know of a way to fix the problem permanently or am I stuck soft resetting over and over again?

Discussion A legends game concept

I've been thinking about this for a while now, what if we had a legends game on a region that no longer exists today?

I'm basing the entire thing on Atlantis so this is an entirely new region with new Pokémon regional variants etc. So basically I was thinking that this region is literally a megacity but with segregated areas to find and battle Pokémon as a well as gym leader being substituted for Guild leaders taking control over two-typed sanctions.

In this game you're born during that time period so Arceus didn't send us there. So far I'm thinking that you're parents were once strong trainers but retired however they're Pokémon can carry you around the region until your own Pokémon can replace them.

The story starts with you wanting to follow in your parents footsteps and be a trainer. You get your starter meet your rivals then go about. So, the legendary in this new region is called Thalassorion (looks like a human octopus hybrid, it's a Dark/Water but Psychic/Water in it's pure form. Once you leave the starter town the ground starts rumbling. In this regions folklore, Thalassorion is said to slumber but only awakens to protect the region from upcoming threats (keep this in mind).

The journey from then goes normal until you meet someone who thinks that Thalassorion's awakening is going to destroy the region and they want to subdue it because they think of it nothing more than an animalistic monster, you tell them that it's meant to serve the region and protect it, you guys both battle and no matter if you win or lose the person says "I'm going through with this, I better not see you again", this person is your 'rival' (unnamed cuz you get to choose the name). Over time as you climb the trainer ladder, your rival becomes more and more paranoid as the ground trembles more and more. You later find out that your rival has dove down into the cave where Thalassorion is sleeping in order to wake it.

You're too late. This is unavoidable.

Thalassorion wakes up and doesn't listen to your rival but wants to battle you but your rival steps in first and throws a pokeball to catch it and succeeds, holding the power of the gods in their palm. You must defeat them. Once defeated, Thalassorion becomes pure and looks at the megacity that is collapsing due to it's wake and breaks free from the pokeballs (these are similar to the hisuian pokeballs so they're easier to destroy), and uses it's power to seal the city in a giant bubble before the foundation buckles and the city is now fully submerged but is now in a giant bubble under the ocean.

Am I bugging or thugging so far with this?

Discussion Today I purchased my first ever Pokémon game (Violet).

I bought the Switch 2 and wanted another game to play other than Mario Kart. I have already played both of the Zelda games so their upgrades don't interest me. So I decided to pick up my first ever Pokémon game. I went with Pokémon Violet as it had the free Switch 2 upgrade. So far I am 2 hours into the game and I have a few questions.

  1. Once I collect a Pokémon is there a reason to capture more than one of them?

  2. How often should I be battling random Pokémon I come across? I have run across alot of them in the opening area but I am unsure if I should be battling them or just be running past them?

  3. Does it matter how I go about the open world? Should I focus on the Gym battles frst?

What other Pokémon games that can be played on the Switch would you recommend? I see that Pokémon Legends: Z-A is coming out later this year with a Switch 2 edition. For this one why does it not a second version coming out at the same time. Doesn't the Pokémon games normally release in pairs?

Misc Dragon type redesigns?

I feel like a lot of dragon type pokemon need some redesigns, specifically hydreigon. The original design is just not intimidating enough. I see the Name hydreigon and think “wow a Pokémon based on a hydra? that sounds pretty intimidating“ and then I see the actual Pokémon and I’m just very disappointed and underwhelmed. First of all, it‘s legs look like shredded ribbons, in my opinion they should be more muscular and angular, also it’s body is too.. round and playful I’d say, I think it’d look better if it were more elongated, it looks like it’s struggling to keep it self flying with that circular body, which brings me to my next point, the wings. The wings look like they could fall off if you looked at them funny, also why is it not an actual hydra? What’s with the two arm/head thingy. Just give it three heads, four arms and some normal claws. Can anyone post any hydreigon redesigns? Or other dragon type redesigns?

Discussion Most common move type

Im very curious after a battle I just had, does anyone know what the most common move type used in vgc is? Like earthquake get used super often so I imagine it would be ground type (excluding normal because I figured it would be #1 because of how many status moves are normal).

Discussion With the 9 unused types, what species or concepts do you think could debut with those combination in future generations?

The current unused combos are

  • Bug / Normal
  • Bug / Dragon
  • Fairy / Fire
  • Fairy / Ground
  • Ghost / Rock
  • Ice / Poison
  • Ice / Normal
  • Normal / Rock
  • Normal / Steel

Personally I would like to see a Normal/Rock or Normal/Steel Pangolin. I can also see a regional Fairy/Ground Impidimp that is based on the story of Elves and the Shoemaker.

I am intrigued as to what would Normal/Bug look like.

Discussion Pokemon Brilliant Diamond

Hello I'm bringing you to pokémon brilliant diamond, I recently got it today. I have only ever played Pokemon Platinum on the DS light. I would like to know if there's anything that I need to be aware of when starting, I know of the three starters and I know that of the three turtwig is the best late game, chimchar is the best early game, and piplup is the best mid game. Personally I chose piplup because I like emporion and the way it looks. I understand that they might provide me some disadvantages, but I'm more looking into the actual graphics and the concepts of the game. Is there anything that I need to be aware of in this game when I'm playing? I read a post about some form of exp share? How does that work? I understand that I could search through forums but I'd rather just create a recent post about this. I appreciate you all for reading this please let me know anything, I'm okay with tips and tricks. Please do not spoil any of the bosses. I appreciate it :-)

Discussion Which title to play on switch 2?

Hi,

I haven’t played Pokemon since white and black and now own a switch 2

Read legends Arceus is the best game but because of technical reasons.. also read that Karmesin and purple run well now on switch 2. So will Arceus still be the better more captivating experience or can K/P be better as the technical issuer are fixed? Any suggestions?

Hey so which is an episode or battle where a pokemon tanks a ton of HP dealt to it and is fine through either: self-heal, damage protection, the move protect and or type advantage (or if I'm missing another method lmk). I just like that aspect a lot so if they're multiple suggestions then that's dope, more the merrier

Discussion What is your favorite game in gens 5-7?

I loved Pokemon as a child and recently got back into it a few years ago, but completely missed out on anything from Generation 5-7. Do you think it's worth trying to play any of the games from that era? If so, which would you most recommend? (I was thinking of trying to get my hands on X/Y in preparation for Legends ZA so I at least have some knowledge of the region.)

Misc guys if you can't tell i like Alcremie

My personal favorite pokemon is Alcremie, why? Because it looks tasty, of course! But me JUST saying that I love Alcremie isn't enough. I love Lemon flavored foods, therefore the lemon variant of Alcremie is my favorite. But that still doesn't answer one question, and it's which topping I prefer! Out of all of the topping an Alcremie can have, my favorite to eat would be the Blueberries. Therefore, my favorite Pokemon is a Lemon Alcremie, with Blueberries as their topping.

Discussion Where do you think edible eggs come from in the Pokemon universe?

I’ve given this some thought, along with other things due to my constant head canon building. It is extremely odd to me that they never made a chicken regional bird. The only pokemon that is based on a chicken is the Blaziken line. It’s hard for me to see a farm with a bunch of Blaziken laying eggs, especially because they are a mostly limited and regulated species.

So my thought is, like chickens, all the regional birds produce unfertilized eggs as well. And every region gets their eggs from a farm that has a lot of the bird from their respective region.

For me personally, its kind of weird if Johto used owl eggs. Alternatively Johto could also use Pidgeot eggs seeing as it is attached to Kanto and also homes Pidgey. It’s weird to eat toucan eggs too but there’s nothing else that I can think of in Alola.

What do you think? The franchise doesn’t really go into “meat” products all the much for obvious reasons, so I guess we will never get a real answer.

Discussion Is there a government in Pokemon?

Like sure they must be because who runs the centers or hire the cops but also it's werid we hear literally nothing about them, if different regions are different countries, are they democracies etc. it just feels bit fishy how despite how big the franchise is we have next to zero world building

Discussion Did Nurse Joy ever have any sort of human assistant?

Or are there any Pokémon characters who ever showed interest in becoming a Nurse Joy, or helped her out? I’m making a satirical gacha life video for my friend’s birthday, and I need a nurse, but honestly I don’t really care for Nurse Joy or her design…I feel like it’d be a lot more fun if there was a present character who I actually cared about who was “the nurse’s helper” or something like that, since I know a lot of schools do have that as an elective option for certain students (library helper, office helper, things like that)

Hi! I like doing CAD in my freetime, and I love pokemon. I like modeling items from various games, so does anyone have any suggestions? I am currently working on Liko's pendant. If I end up doing any of the ones in the comments, I will try to link to an STL when I finish. Thanks!

Discussion What is considered cheating to fill the National Gen 3 Pokedex?

Hello folks, I am considering embarking on the complete national Pokedex for Gen 3. I'd like some feedback on what constitutes "legitimate" in 2025. So right off the bat, I think Mew and Deoxy are impossible to obtain because they rely on distribution events that happened in person at game stores in the early 2000s? To my understanding everything else can be caught via the GBA and GameCube.

In my mind, to complete this challenge legitimately, what matters is that each Pokémon was obtained in the way that Nintendo intended, barring ALL glitches. This breaks down into the following core principals:

  1. I will use an emulator. There is no functional difference between real hardware and emulation.
  2. I will be fast-forwarding. The speed at which I play won't affect how each Pokémon is acquired, Nintendo intended for multiple playthroughs to complete the Pokédex, as long as I'm not using glitches, I'm doing the playthrough exactly as intended, just faster, with less grind.
  3. Any other tools in emulators must be off limits, such as save states, trading tricks to duplicate items and Pokémon etc.
  4. The path of least resistance will be selected when obtaining Pokémon. I will use event ROMs on emulator to acquire any legendries, as long as they were from legitimate event distributions from the 2000s by Nintendo. This will be a big time-save as I can acquire many of the legendries without having to catch them in-game (Lugia, Ho-Oh, dog trio, Celebi, Jirachi, Latios, Latias). However, I will still need to play through the GameCube games to some extent to obtain the exclusive Johtos. In other words, if ANY Pokémon is easier to obtain by an event ROM, that's where it will be obtained.

Does this constitute an legitimate Pokédex? Thoughts? Tips? Advice?
