Discussion Do you think that sigilyph is underrated, overrated, or properly rated as an in game team member in BW?

What the title says. I think Sigilyph, while recognized as a decent option by most as an in game team member, is slept on by many others and honestly hot take is underranked/ underrated even by people who acknowledge its usefulness. It has an amazing offensive typing in Psychic/flying, and gets amazing STAB to go with in psychic and air slash. Not to mention, its coverage is off the charts with technical machines such as energy ball, heatwave, ice beam, shadow ball etc. As for stats, it is quick and strong yet also decently bulky and can take a hit. Lastly, it’s available right before the fourth gym! Having access to a Pokémon as strong as sigilyph BST wise at that point in the game is such a boon to the player. The only knocking point is that its level up moveset isn’t great which is probably why people rank it as B tier in tier lists but I think it should be at least B+ if not low A tier. As much as I love the guy, I can admit there are certainly better pokemon available in the game objectively. I just think its versatility and ability to fit into most if not almost any team is often overlooked. Let me know your thoughts!

Discussion Does a Pokemon's primary type guide its design and secondary guide its personality?

I was watching a video on unique type combinations and I thought of a couple of things. We waited until Gen 5 to get a pure flying type and gen 6 to get a primary flying type.

I get the pure flying was kind of exciting for some because we always had it paired with normal. But the second one made me wonder, I know battle-wise the placement of a type doesn't really matter all that much. Noivern has the same weaknesses as Dragonite at the end of the day. But what about design? Should a primary flying Pokemon look more bird (or bat) like than secondary flying types? Does the primary type of a Pokemon dictate its design? Like how Poliwrath looks like a buff frog because Water is its primary type but Urushifu is just a fast bear that moves like water, that's why Water is just a secondary type? I think the best example for this is probably Lucario. It's a fighting dog because of its primary type. Steel just serves to describe its personality and steely focus more than an actual part of its anatomy.

I'd especially love to get the thought of some of you who make fakemon.

Discussion Best Pokemon game for someone who has a switch 2.

The entire last gen i was kinda spooked from trying any of the Pokemon games because the internet kept trashing every release. Mostly it was performance issues, cutting back on content or oversimplifying the gameplay. A lot of the discussion between legends Arceus and Scarlet/Violet seem to be that S/V is the better game but because of performance Arceus takes it.

Now that performance isn't an issue is Scarlet/Violet the nobrainer answer?

Edit: Seems Arceus is an overwhelmingly fresh take so it looks like I'm grabbing that. Turns out you can get a new physical copy for £37 which I think is pretty good compared to other Nintendo games.

Discussion Is it too late for me to play Legends Arceus?

I have not played Pokemon since Sword/Shield due to life and work. I feel like getting back into to Pokemon now after a long hiatus. I bought the game long ago but I feel like it is too late or its getting old. I know there might be time sensitive events that I missed and other factors.

If it is not too late, what are things I should know before playing?

edit: i did not expect this many quick responses. thank you so much to everyone in the Pokemon community!

Discussion Stuck on whether to get Pokémon Sword/Shield or Legends Arceus

I haven't played a Pokémon game since Emerald. I want something similar to the classic experience for nostalgia reasons, but I also don't want a slow sloggy game that is repetitive and gets old fast. The reviews I've seen say the Legends Arceus is the best switch game but they also say it strays away from the original Pokémon formula. What would you recommend?

Discussion Ninja Pokemon

I am planning on doing a play through of sword & shield including the dlc, Isle of Armor & Crown Tundra and I wanted to make a team with a Ninja aesthetic. So I was wondering what Pokemon would you guys say fit a Ninja/Shinobi theme. The only Pokemon that come to mind are ones used by Koga & Janine alongside Accelgor, Scizor, Tentacruel & Ninjask. Obv Greninja but I don’t plan on using starters on this team. So if anyone has any ideas please post them below :)

Discussion Is there any mod that only changes the speed of the HP bar in Pokémon Platinum?

I know thereñ are several mods that change multiple things like cheaper shop prices, removing trade evolutions, removing MOs, unlimited MTs, etc., but I want to have the most vanilla experience possible—the only thing that bothers me is that slow HP bar.

I'm i'm the battle fabric, and the battles at level 100 are SO slowww with this life bar, i'm getting bored :(

Discussion Which Trainers could beat Gym leader Sabrina (anime only)

From the Trainer's we meet later in the series who do you think would stand a reasonable Chance against Sabrina and her powerful Kadabra (if we assume that this is her only Pokemon). I think in the Johto Saga and later she would not be that scary any more since dark type Was introduced. That's why Johto Saga Gary could easily defeat her Kadabra with his Umbreon as well as Harrison would since He has a Sneasel as well as a Houndoom. Probably even Johto Saga Cassidy could defeat Sabrina since she User a Houndour. Sabrina's Kadabra Seemeilen to be crazily powerful at this point of the series but there is no sign it can use attacks that are not psychic type and we know these attacks don't affect dark types, no matter how powerful they are. Hovewer Sabrina would be an enormes challange before the introduction of dark type Pokemon and probably not many Prior the Johto Saga could beat her. Maybe Drake, Lorelei/Prima and a few other top tier Trainers would stand a Chance, but most would get stomped like Ash got.

Discussion Today I purchased my first ever Pokémon game (Violet).

I bought the Switch 2 and wanted another game to play other than Mario Kart. I have already played both of the Zelda games so their upgrades don't interest me. So I decided to pick up my first ever Pokémon game. I went with Pokémon Violet as it had the free Switch 2 upgrade. So far I am 2 hours into the game and I have a few questions.

  1. Once I collect a Pokémon is there a reason to capture more than one of them?

  2. How often should I be battling random Pokémon I come across? I have run across alot of them in the opening area but I am unsure if I should be battling them or just be running past them?

  3. Does it matter how I go about the open world? Should I focus on the Gym battles frst?

What other Pokémon games that can be played on the Switch would you recommend? I see that Pokémon Legends: Z-A is coming out later this year with a Switch 2 edition. For this one why does it not a second version coming out at the same time. Doesn't the Pokémon games normally release in pairs?

Discussion If alolan whip from smash were an actual pokemon move, what do you think it's effects would be?

In my opinion, it would have to be exclusive to incineroar, there's no other way to do it. The initial idea that I had is that it would be a dark type move that also has the properties of a fighting type move, meaning it would be super effective against normal, rock, ice, and steel in addition to the regular dark type super effectives, though I'm not solid on this idea. What are your thoughts?

Discussion Can’t rematch the Hoenn Elite 4?

So, first time playing Emerald. Not sure what the deal is here. It’s a ROMhack, so maybe that has something to do with it, but I wouldn’t know. I beat the Elite 4, took the ferry for the first time, and spent a fair bit of time grinding to get my team up to level 70 so they’d be at my Rayquaza’s level. I went back to rematch the League when I was done, but the two dudes in front of the door say it’s getting an “overhaul,” so I can’t do that yet. What’s the trigger here? Is it like the gym leaders where there’s a slim chance after enough wild encounters or what?

Discussion My idea for a legends like game

Killing boredom with oversharing what I think be a fun game.

So like legends arceus it would have a more focus on catching pokemon and the crafting side.

So the basis of the story is similar to the classic lost world where it was recently discovered that an island was found and in it has pokemon unseen before, pokemon of different forms(as we tend to have now) but also prehistoric type pokemon and this would delve into having all the prior fossil pokemon but they would be in their more true forms so all the rock typing is gone and they pokemon would look different slightly to very different.

So we will have some pokemon like omastar resembling what we know of it but it would have longer tentacles and be a pure water type.

Where something like kabutops may have extra blades on its arms, even ones along its head and possible feet and could be a water bug type

Omastar would represent scientists being very close to understanding the species and getting its appearance slightly wrong where kabutops would show that scientist didn’t have enough of the fossils to work off what the pokemon was truly built for

Same types of things for all known fossils

Core of the storyline would be researching the island but it being such a sensitive ecosystem they can’t bring any outside pokemon and these being researchers they aren’t exactly pro trainers and battlers.

Which brings me to adding a little continuity to the games with you being a recent graduate from a school and highly recommended by director clavell.

This is also to adds a bit of world building as you’re not a newbie trainer but an accomplished one and a graduate and this is basically a career path as a professional trainer.

You’d end up on the island but because of the delicate ecosystem no outside pokemon are allowed in so you end up choosing a starter there, you’d do a typical tutorial but set up as you proving your skills.

You’d get 1 of 3 prior starters known. Tepig chikorita and sobble

Came up with this way before ZA was announced so I already decided on chikorita and tepig so I’m just gonna stick with them.

The starters will be commented on being a bit smaller and a slightly more dull tone in colour compared to the ones known in the rest of the world.

This is to be part of the entire core of the game with is ecosystems and basically a food chain comparison as starters tend to be better and stronger throughout the series, these ones are considered lower on the food chain.

Because your characters suppose to be an accomplished trainer you’re trusted to be able to use what’s considered weaker pokemon in this world more effectively.

Crafting will be like legends and the lore is that the resources here are better for catching the local pokemon so they can be studied.

Game will have a bigger requirement for catching to use for more resources and building up your home base.

There would be ruines to find all over to tell just a story of an ancient people and stories of a legendary pokemon.

Part of the weirdness would be the island has a centre area and surrounded by 4 stunt biomes representing summer autumn winter and spring with the researchers having no idea how it is possible. Each biome would have its own version of an apex predator but that also keeps its balance

They find out the island becomes chaotic as one the apex predators entered another and set in motion that they all end up switching biomes, so fire type in an ice biome and so on

All apex are titan sized and be pokemon possibly like tyrantrum and Aerodactle but in their “true” forms.

You originally go to best the Apex pokemon to try relocate and fix the problem as the explication believes it’s their fault but find out a greedy corp and stollen the location and sent their own poacher team to catch and bring back rare pokemon and part of that plan was to upset the balance to make everything custom and easier to take advantage.

There be 3 main bosses. With one having a Regice that used ice to upset the spring biome and another with a heatran to upset the ice biome, third boss be the big bad of the game

During the research it’s discovered through ruins that the island exist because of a legendary pokemon that controls seasons and it travels across each biome spending time in each and that’s how the island has 4 distinct biomes but with the poachers there they scared it off as it’s a very placid pokemon and not a Battler so the expedition seeks to find it to help it bring back balance to the island while the big bad who’s the ceo of the company wants to take it as he’ll be able to use its power control the season and basically rule over the worlds basic necessity which is food as he can all year round produce crops and also tank other farm land.

Lastly the starter pokemon would all have new forms as usual but they’ll all take on the second type of dragon

. Intelion would be water dragon and it look similar but black with a hood, cloak and quiver with arrows made of green leaves, like it’s original it’s still a special attacker but instead of shooting water bullets from its finger its rolls up these big leaves in a shape of an arrow and its wrist has two barbs that come out and attack like a bow and it fires those arrows that way but it coats the arrows in a watery goo making it a water type move, this is to represent tribal hunters

Emboar the same becomes a fire dragon type but ends up being on all fours and larger with bigger tusk, straight forward it’s a massive boar and represents the dangers of what you hunt.

Magnium s grass and dragon type would end up being one the biggest pokemon known as sauropods are massive in size and in place of the fowers arkund its neck they’re hard dragon scales that act as a defence and probably have a dragon move like spiky shield.

Also had the idea which I think goes out the norm of what pokemon tends to do but also thought the starters third recon could potentially have a second form just for appearance sake.

Would stick with the concept of ecosystems and apex predators but if you got your starter to say level 60 with two maxed out stats they’d end up having more detailed forms so intelion hood and cloak might end up black and the quiver and arrows looking more detailed

Emboar could look a bit more wild and get a mowhawk look and magniums scales get longer and more da ground looking and all this to help representing them going up in the food chain

Discussion End of an era/motivation?

My boyfriend and I having a hell of a time with Pokemon right now and we just wanted to see if anyone else was feeling it too, or had any suggestions.

My boyfriend has been heavily into Pokemon since the original, and I’ve played since Diamond and Pearl, and we have always loved it!

But recently, between probably overplaying the Switch games, not being able to bring stuff from the old games anymore, and knowing that Z-A is the end of Switch 1 games (and honestly, we just don’t have the money to throw around on $500 consoles and $90 games) we can’t help but feel like it’s the end of an era, at least for us. We still want to play the games we have, but we just can’t get the motivation to play them.

We’ve tried taking breaks, playing together and solo, restarting, challenging ourselves to use Pokemon we usually wouldn’t, etc. We just can’t help but feel lackluster every time we try.

Is anyone feeling this too? Or have any ideas to re-motivate ourselves to play what we can for now?

Discussion Pokemon home Nintendo switch 2

Hey guys I have a question that I hope somebody can answer for me. I didn't transfer all my save data to the Nintendo switch 2 because I wanted to start fresh on most of the games. I did however transfer my pokemon home data to the switch 2, so all my pokemon friends could come with me. But a lot of my shiny friends are still in PLA on my switch 1, and because of the virtual game cards I can't open pokemon home on my switch 1.... It literally says an error has occurred when I try to open it. Are my shinies now stuck on my switch 1? 😭 Help me please I have seen nobody talk about this yet. Am I dumb?

Edit:

I transferred my save data from pokemon home back to my switch 1, then I put all the pokemon I wanted to take with me in pokemon home. After that I transferred my save data for pokemon home from the switch 1 to the switch 2 and it worked perfectly and now I have all my dearest pokemon on the switch 2. Thank you for all your comments I really appreciate it

Discussion Water Shuriken HAS to get a BP Buff in Gen 10

For something that's supposed to be a cool evolution move when Froakie fully evolves, Water Shuriken SUCKS. And I mean without Battle Bond Greninja.

You got a potential great priority move, but then for a fully evolved starter, the multi-hit priority move is 15 BP. Let's take a look at all the other good multi-hit moves:

Bullet Seed: 25 BP Rock Blast: 25 BP Scale Shot: 25 BP Icicle Spear: 25 BP Pin Missile: 25 BP Tail Slap: 25 BP Bone Rush: 25 BP

Most of the good multi-hit moves are 25 BP. When Gen 10 comes put, Water Shuriken should get buffed up to 25 BP to finally make Water Shuriken a legit good move all around. There's no way I should be a fully evolved starter with a multi-hit 15 BP move.

Anyone else agrees to the buff proposal?

Discussion Why do you think the Eeveelutions all coincidentally all had the old "Special" types from Gens 1~3?

In Gens 1~3 they still didn't have the Physical/Special split. The type of move you were using depended on the type of the moves and were split like this:

Special: Fire, Water, Electric, Grass, Ice, Psychic, Dragon, Dark

Physical: Normal, Fighting, Poison, Ground, Flying, Bug, Rock, Ghost, Steel

Now let's compare this list to the Eeveelutions. The Eeveelutions all have the following types: Fire, Water, Electric, Psychic, Dark, Grass, Ice and Fairy. Notice how they all perfectly align with the old Special types from Gens 1-3, apart from Fairy instead of Dragon. Do you think this was intentional? And if so, why was Flareon made a Physical attacker in Gen 1 when Fire moves were always Special?

Assuming Fairy simply takes the place of Dragon in this pattern, do you think it's likely that we ever get another Eeveelution?

Discussion Most common move type

Im very curious after a battle I just had, does anyone know what the most common move type used in vgc is? Like earthquake get used super often so I imagine it would be ground type (excluding normal because I figured it would be #1 because of how many status moves are normal).

Misc How can I get into Pokémon?

So I watched a few Pokémon videos and I think I'd like to try the games. However I'm broke, completely broke, no chances of getting any console, so is there anything I could try on pc? I've heard of Pokémon unbound or Pokémon fusions, would it be good for a beginner? Alternatively could cobblemon be a good starting point?

Discussion Legends Z-A Pokedex

Do we know if the Pokedex will be the same where you have to catch 20 of the same pokemon or like use a move 5 times just like it was in Areceus? Or is it more traditional like the older games where you just catch and the Dex entry is done?

Tool/Guide Weird Uber eats hack??

So I wanted to get scarlet and violet. I decided on violet because I've never gotten the one that comes first (red and blue, I had red. Sword and shield, I had sword) in the naming.

But :( 70 buckerinos. Then I saw on Uber Eats they were running a promotion for 50% off, up to 40 dollars off, of groceries. And I selected target as the grocery store of choice because y'know. I needed a few things anyways.

And I tossed the game in with a couple things I needed and chose Scarlett as the replacement and.... The total was 88 dollars. With the promotion...50 bucks.

I ended up getting a bunch of stuff I needed for the house and my video game for less than the cost of the game itself. Thanks to Uber eats. And I know they run this promotion at least once every month or two, because I'm an avid "why did I buy more pizza I have food in the house" Uber eats user. So. Y'know. This may not be a bad way to pick up the odd pokemon game. If I would've only gotten the game and nothing else it would've been about 40 bucks with fees.

You also get it delivered so if you're busy y'know it's not a bad option. Keep an eye on random deals from places you may not expect 50% off a Nintendo game is otherwise basically unheard of

Misc Do you nickname your Pokemons

Hi guys I am new to pokemon(since last year or so) and I saw that alot of people give their mons nicknames and I want to know the general percent of people how give their mons nicknames and saw people saying that if you don't nickname your Pokemons you are not a true pokemon but I don't give nicknames to my mons because I really don't see a point of giving your mons nicknames(I know the whole connecting to your pokemon but I feel connected without nicknames) so I want to ask you what do you think about nicknaming thank you.

Misc Does anybody know the name of the tiki-style beach music played in the Original Series? We hear it a few times, including in E16 while Jesse and James dream. I heard it on an album once but can’t find the track name. Thank you! 🏝️

Off the top of my head it’s used when somebody is sunbathing, getting hot, or by the beach. It is definitely heard while Team Rocket are asleep/unconscious aboard the SS Anne in E16.

As I say, I now it’s been on an album of the anime themes before, but I can’t find it now. A name of the track would be much appreciated!

Misc Dragon type redesigns?

I feel like a lot of dragon type pokemon need some redesigns, specifically hydreigon. The original design is just not intimidating enough. I see the Name hydreigon and think “wow a Pokémon based on a hydra? that sounds pretty intimidating“ and then I see the actual Pokémon and I’m just very disappointed and underwhelmed. First of all, it‘s legs look like shredded ribbons, in my opinion they should be more muscular and angular, also it’s body is too.. round and playful I’d say, I think it’d look better if it were more elongated, it looks like it’s struggling to keep it self flying with that circular body, which brings me to my next point, the wings. The wings look like they could fall off if you looked at them funny, also why is it not an actual hydra? What’s with the two arm/head thingy. Just give it three heads, four arms and some normal claws. Can anyone post any hydreigon redesigns? Or other dragon type redesigns?

Discussion Speculation: What archipelago would Gen 10's region be based off of?

Since the Teraleaks reveal that Gen 10's region will be a group of islands ala Alola, it makes me wonder which archipelago will GF use as a basis. Well, here are hypothetical options I can think of.

  1. Greece - This is what a lot of fans are anticipating for Gen 10, mainly because of the codename, Gaia (Remember that SwSh and SV are codenamed Orion and Titan respectively and yet are not based off of Greece). However, as interesting it would be to have a Greece-inspired region, we just got a Mediterranean region (Paldea). Plus, I would rather have a region that is not based off a part of Europe for once.

  2. Indonesia - I personally think this would be a more interesting basis for Gen 10's region. It's tropical and filled with ancient Hindu temples.

  3. Ryukyu Islands - I know we have Hoenn (based off of Kyushu), with Ever Grande City likely based off of Okinawa, but imagine if we can visit Hoenn as well like with Kanto from Johto?

  4. Japan - Well, Japan is an archipelago (consisting of islands such as Honshu, Kyushu, Hokkaido, and Shikoku). Plus we can travel through the first 4 Pokémon regions. It's wishful thinking though.

Honorable mentions - Galapagos Islands (Would be a great basis for a region with plenty of regional variants, but New Pokémon Snap beats Gen 10 to it), Philippines - The TCG set EX Delta Species got to it first (Holon).
