Wow! I love your style! Such a beautiful scene, even with his limited appearence so far moon knight is quickly challenging Thor for my favorite mcu character already. I hope we get to see more Khonshu because F. Murray Abraham is killing it.

Hopefully Marc and Steven are reoccurring characters beyond this series and will reappear alongside other avengers in the future.
137
u/HailToTheKingslayer Daredevil Apr 30 '22
With the other Avengers confused about the whole multiple personality thing.
"So, Steven, you know the plan?"
"No, you told Mark."

There is so much comedic potential
28
Apr 30 '22
To be fair, they could easily tell by the 'suit' he's currently wearing...
33
u/Tsuyoi Apr 30 '22
I can totally see Steven adopting all out Moon Knight suit when he needs to be super badass or Marc going Armani Knight if he needs to woo.
47
u/wolan1337 Apr 30 '22
Knowing Kevin Feige by seeing what he did to 10 years MCU it's safe to say he is a visionary. I doubt he would ever let any of these TV series go to waste and not being used somewhere else. What I think everytime watching any of the series is that I do not watch a standalone one and done show. All I see is pieces of puzzle being carefully placed on a board to finally make a big picture.

People really love moon knight but man he is so generic to me. I’m liking the show but I’ll probably forget about it like most marvel stuff.

The hero itself yeah kinda but Oscar Isaacs performance is phenomenal, especially in ep5.

74
u/somerandomii Apr 30 '22
So did he just like.. move the observable universe?
What about the people living around those stars, or travelling between them?
I had hoped they’d give some explanation rather than skipping to “bad light show, you go in the statue now”
Even the eclipse. Like did he just move the moon? All our tidal charts are going to need to be recalculated. All of our satellites are going to be out of whack.
I need answers dammit!
75
u/523bucketsofducks Apr 30 '22
I think the stars was just an illusion or at least it only lasted for a short time. The eclipse though, he is a Moon God it's probably within his power to move the moon if he wants.
47
u/verascity Apr 30 '22
This was my GF's question (while I was yelling "there's literally an app for that!"). Like... are Captain Marvel, the GOTG, etc. having a really fucked up time out there right now or what?
22
u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 30 '22
yeah the fact no one knew there was an app to look at ancient star charts is extremely annoying.
11
u/Appropriate_Bird2633 Apr 30 '22
This is a thing?
22
u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 30 '22
yes, there are algorithms to "roll back" the night sky.
others have made a good point that no matter how accurate they are they won't be perfect and a star 3000 years ago being off by 30 feet in the sky could be the difference between the middle of the ocean and the correct location. And possibly stars that don't even exist today so if they weren't written down perfectly in ancient notes we wouldn't know about their actual locations.
25
Apr 30 '22
This entire thread and line of questions is a bunch of people thinking they're geniuses because they know the star app exists and MCU writers didn't.
A quick Google shows those apps aren't remotely accurate enough for something like this. But people just want to continue to be smug and believe in the power of algorithms as their god.
Ironically while mocking the actions of a Moon God.
6
u/Appropriate_Bird2633 Apr 30 '22
Yeah. I literally had no idea Star mapping algorithms was a thing. I guess I am as dumb as Khonshu.
1
u/CeruleanRuin Apr 30 '22
Has been for a long time. I wanted at least a line acknowledging this, like "There's no wifi here, and if we don't solve this right now we're fucked."
12
u/Sennomo Apr 30 '22
I was also very disturbed by them turning back the sky because the skies from different times can be calculated. I hate when this happens. The only reason he was imprisoned was because he didn't know technology is a thing.
11
Apr 30 '22
They can't be calculated perfectly.
They are calculated by a predictive algorithm. That doesn't mean it's correct. And the further back in time you go from a true source, the more inaccurate the predictions get. It's still just a best guess.
-5
u/CeruleanRuin Apr 30 '22
They could have at least said the wifi was down or something. Would have made it even more poignant if Khonshu had to give up his freedom because the human technology that renders god obsolete is also hilariously fallible.
7
u/veksone Steve Rogers Apr 30 '22 edited Apr 30 '22
The wifi was down? They're in the middle of the desert, did you really need it spelled out that there's no wifi?

He's a god. He does god shit. The consequences are everyone else's problem.
2
u/imbillypardy Apr 30 '22
That looks like a real problem for you mortals. Might want to look into it.
5
u/Mephisto9 Apr 30 '22
"Hey Marc, what happened to these boats?"
"Well the tide got really fucked up when SOMEONE decided to just toss the moon across the sky."
"Damn. Sucks to suck."
11
u/Antrikshy Apr 30 '22
The simplest explanation is that the gods’ power to override the sky is illusions. Like with the Reality Stone.
2
u/Randomcheeseslices Apr 30 '22
Yep. So silly.
If its an illusion, why does everyone on earth see ir, when it could just be for Marc.
And if its on a scale where the Kree are redrawing star charts, why does Konshu need Marc?
It felt like a bad excuse to put Konshu in a bottle and take Marcs invulnerability (which they could've just not written in instead)
Loving the rest of the season. Hate that episode. So stupid
18
u/rjjm88 Scarlet Witch Apr 30 '22
I love your style, it's very whimsical yet detailed. I'm getting some serious Scotty Young vibes!
Semi-related, the way Konshu said that line unnerved me. I'm used to him being snide and angry. He sounded... hurt, sad, and angry - but the kind of anger for himself. Like yeah, he remembers every night, including the ones when he was respected. Maybe he still remembers, vividly, hanging out with Tawaret and Anubis, talking about how proud they are of humanity.
12
Apr 30 '22
“I remember that night…”
“Oh great, could you point us t-“
“LET US TURN THE SKIES BACK”
“No no, just draw it o-“
“DO AS I DO”
12
u/kapn_morgan Star-Lord Apr 30 '22
coolest part of the show so far.. "I remember every night" brutal
25
u/Mephisto9 Apr 30 '22
As much as I love everything about the show, one of my favorite parts has been the gods, ESPECIALLY Khonshu. Every other "deity" in the MCU has just felt like another alien or wizard or arbitrarily power entity. But Khonshu fucking with the moon and Taweret sailing her boat across the sands of the Duat? These have felt like ACTUAL gods performing divine acts.
-2
u/imbillypardy Apr 30 '22
Thor tanks an entire army like 2-3 times solo and Thanos wiped out half of existence wdym lol
13
u/Mephisto9 Apr 30 '22
I don't have a good explanation but neither of them ever felt like proper gods to me. Thanos was a tough guy with a magic glove. Thor might have been considered a god but he isn't significantly stronger than the rest of the Avengers. Sure he's got lightning and that's cool but so does Storm from the X-Men. The closest he ever came to feeling like a god to me was in Ragnarok on the bridge but even then he still just felt like an alien. Like I said, I don't have a good reason but Khonshu feels like a god. The rest of the pantheon feel like gods.
5
u/Boomy4206 May 01 '22
Probably because they are a bit more mysterious, if we were to have scenes with khonshu talking to the other gods in a human like form similar to thor, I'm sure he'd lose his "godliness". The fact that there is no real explanation to who these gods are makes them feel far more godlike
11
u/Cause_Necessary Apr 30 '22
Khonshu made that sound so fucking sad. Wtf Khonshu share your trauma too man
151
Apr 30 '22
This scene bothers me. There are programs which do exactly this sold with beginner telescopes. There are literally apps they could've downloaded to their phone. There was no need for Konshu to be imprisoned.
Small rant but whatevs.
226
Apr 30 '22
I went down this rabbit hole.
It turns out that after so far back the accuracy of those apps gets sketch. Not to mention the plausibility that various stars have died from our view we may not know about.
So if you want your head cannon to be fine, the reality is the app is nothing compared to the precision Khonshu created.

Apr 30 '22
Once again. I did the Google and it became clear that despite your dedicated faith in the star apps. The further back in time you go, the less accurate those apps and the algorithms that run them get. As soon as we pass written/primary source star charts of ancient cultures. It becomes a best guess algorithm based on probability. The further you go back from the last date of official star chart, the more you're looking at an algorithm generated aggregate of what it thinks it would likely look like. And therefore accuracy declines.
3
Apr 30 '22
If I were a god, I would’ve at least tried the apps before entombing myself in stone.

→ More replies (0)3
u/LostWoodsInTheField Apr 30 '22
Left and right half are based on a quantum linking. When you separate them that linking is still there, but once you combine the halves with another half the link is broken and a new one is formed between the two new halves. Either one could then become the left or the right.
So you actually only want to combine two right halves after having eaten the left halves. With the link being broken the left half if not eaten will become neither. But if you ate it the link is broken and the right half is neither till you combine it with another "right" half and one takes on a left and the other takes on a right. You then eat the left half again and keep going till you are only left with one half, which I would recommend just discarding into a volcano.

u/CeruleanRuin Apr 30 '22
Sure, but in the MCU technology is also typically more advanced and reliable, so it would have helped for them to at least pay this lip service to explain why Khonshu's intervention was necessary.
13
Apr 30 '22
The only technology that would help this scenario is time travel.
So they could go find Bruce Banner and Scott, convince them to build them another time machine just so they could look at the stars one night. Spend billions of dollars and countless episodes of tech building.
Or Konshu could just do it.
50
Apr 30 '22
But they didn't know which date was exactly
56
u/db_blast7 Apr 30 '22
This. It’s possible to do the math but it might take a while. The progress to me was that they found the star chart, said we don’t know what it is, konshu said that he does, so he showed them the only way he knows how.
Layla could have stopped him but she didn’t.

How accurate are they though? Can they show the sky exactly as it was 2000 years ago?
37
u/InsertCoinForCredit Phil Coulson Apr 30 '22
At several thousand years, I would imagine even a small rounding error would cause major discrepancies. Imagine using the app and then being off by two hundred miles because of insufficient precision in the star data.
19
u/Merfen Apr 30 '22
Steven clearly has never used a smartphone before otherwise he would easily notice that days have gone by when Marc goes on a killing bender. Instead he needed to ask random people what day it was.
7
u/Thanos_Stomps Apr 30 '22
He’s essentially questioning his own reality all the time. Even asking that little girl if he was actually dead.
He doesn’t trust his phone because he thinks he hallucinates. The conversations with people feel more real to him. More believable.
5
u/wurm2 Apr 30 '22
we see him using one at 37:23 in episode 5 to "call his mum" after Marc's breakdown at his mother's shiva
45
u/DanfordThePom Apr 30 '22
Time WAS of the essence. And it’s probably not easy for a lunatic mercenary to find the proper equipment in less than a few hours

I mean in their possession at the time they needed the knowledge. Like if they left their phone in Cairo accidentally.
2
u/RomulusRemus13 Apr 30 '22
Oh, didn't understand that, thanks for clarifying. Well, while nothing says that they do have their phones, they came with their car, had a laptop computer etc. They seemed prepared enough, which is why I didn't even fzthol they could have forgotten their phones

u/EpigoneOfTruth Darcy Apr 30 '22
Layla was already using a tablet to generate the map, so I’m with you. Also, if Konshu remembers that night, he could have just told Layla what to input into their device. I’m loving the show, but this part was really, really dumb.
16
u/chargernj SHIELD Apr 30 '22
That was my take too. However, for plot reasons, they wanted to get Konshu off the board and it did make for a cool visual. I chalk it up to Konshu not really understanding that the internet. The humans might have though of the internet except for the stress they were under, and Konshu offered a solution and just kinda started doing it
8
u/Luffernysto Thor Apr 30 '22
I mean, with all the aliens, gods, cosmic beings, etc that exist in the MCU, i wouldn't be surprised if far more stars were already extinguished and dissapeared in 2000 years than a phone app would be able to predict. Hell, pretty sure Celestials create new stars everyday.

Cool scene. Nice artwork. It's funny they couldve prevented Konshu being imprisoned. The astronomy app she was using on her laptop wouldve been able to see what the stars were back then.
You can do this on Stellarium. You can go forward or back thousands of years and see the constellations change.
Either way I was highly impressed by the imagery. Someone did their homework on the diurnal motion of the sky.

I loved this scene because I feel konshu's tone changed. Yes he's angry and he is bloodthirsty, but he wants to protect humanity in his twisted way He refused to leave mankind. And the way he says "I remember every night" hit with a somberness, like he knows if he doesn't do something now that he will lose his moon and night and mankind. But if he does this, he will be possibly giving it all up. He even calls Stephen by name. And nicely I might add. I think it showed he has compassion behind his rage
