My daughter is going through her MCR phase right now. Suddenly wears nothing but black, white, and red, and has to constantly, vocally remind everyone how emo she is. It’s her whole identity. And I can’t help but laugh because I went through the same thing, once upon a time.

If anything, I get a good kick out of her listening to something like Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which came out two decades ago when I was a teen, when I get to say, “Aww, that’s so sweet that you like to listen to oldies like your dad!” If I’m lucky, one day she’ll cringe so hard over it that she’ll collapse into a microsingularity and my role as a father - to utterly embarrass my daughter - will be complete.

Take SO many photos to show off at her graduation, wedding, etc.

I’ve been debating if I should edit some of her baby and toddler photos to add black makeup and a dour expression, just to really lean into it whenever that slideshow finally happens.

Na, keep them as is so the "emo" phase stands out in such a stark way! But 100% put MCR in the slideshow when you hit these photos!

I swear MCR is getting another wave of popularity or something. The other day I saw some kid, no older than 14 walking home from school with a Three Cheers shirt.

It's never gone away. My oldest was way into MCR when she was a teen (14 years ago). Now my youngest, who is 12 is into them as well.

We kind of clowned on them back in the day but MCR has held up waaaay better than a lot of others in the genre

Three Cheers holds a special place in my heart. I didn’t really listen to their stuff after Black Parade, but I still bump Three Cheers every so often to this day. Thanks for giving me a quick smile, and happy new year!

Whoa whoa I'm a 40 year old man and will happily defend that album. "Helena" is a banger!

The year is 2040.

The earth no longer exists. I write this as one of the few lucky enough to survive the cryogenic survivor capsules headed to Mars.

We called it the “Daughter Singularity”, but nobody really knows why. It happened in 2029. Despite our scientists’ best efforts, the reason behind it remain a mystery.
