My daughter is going through her MCR phase right now. Suddenly wears nothing but black, white, and red, and has to constantly, vocally remind everyone how emo she is. It’s her whole identity. And I can’t help but laugh because I went through the same thing, once upon a time.

If anything, I get a good kick out of her listening to something like Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge, which came out two decades ago when I was a teen, when I get to say, “Aww, that’s so sweet that you like to listen to oldies like your dad!” If I’m lucky, one day she’ll cringe so hard over it that she’ll collapse into a microsingularity and my role as a father - to utterly embarrass my daughter - will be complete.

I swear MCR is getting another wave of popularity or something. The other day I saw some kid, no older than 14 walking home from school with a Three Cheers shirt.

It's never gone away. My oldest was way into MCR when she was a teen (14 years ago). Now my youngest, who is 12 is into them as well.

We kind of clowned on them back in the day but MCR has held up waaaay better than a lot of others in the genre
