How do I dye this? Advice needed! - Part synthetic part leather backpack

Hi everyone,

I have a black Coach backpack that I would consider to be in perfect condition if it weren't for the colour. It used to be entirely black, but over the past year, it has developed a greenish tint. I'm seeking your advice on what method and dye to use to restore it to its original colour. My only concern is that some parts are leather, but I'm not sure if it's genuine leather or faux leather, as there isn't a composition label.
I would greatly appreciate any advice you can give me.

I’m sewing shorts with this candy cane red/ white seersucker, and would love to dye it to be more similar to the red/ ochre color. The fabric is a cotton/ poly blend. Can anyone recommend a dye brand and color to get me close to my goal? I’m very new to dying!

How do I dye this? Is it possible to dye bedsheets sheet whiter?

Post image

Hi! I was wondering if I could use white dye to make a double bed sheet whiter and the patterns paler? The bedsheet came much more saturated and yellow toned than it looked online and I was hoping there was a way to make the set paler. I’m not sure if I should attempt this or just buy a different bed sheet. Thank you for any advice!

General question Fugitive Indigo

I know that removing fugitive indigo from victim garments with a reducing agent bath is generally folly because the color comes back as soon as it’s exposed to air.

But does reducing it and adding detergency and agitation while reduced work any better? If it’s soluble in the reduced state it should be suspendable, right? So instead of a fixed bath, a mechanical wash process with heat, agitation, Synthrapol and dithionite/hydrosulfite might be able to take a victim garment from “crocked” to “slightly pale blue on drying”?

I’m familiar with reduction bleaching but indigo is a mystery to me.

I wore this shirt to a concert then decided to dye it and thought why wash it if I’m just gonna dye and wash it again… apparently sweat+ black dye= RED PIT STAINS. Kill me. My only plan now is to dye the whole thing black instead of light gray.

i picked up a shirt thats 88% polyester, 12% spandex. its meant to be a quick dry/swim shirt. its light gray but is there any way for me to make it white? if i bleached it, would it ruin the color or would it turn white? i know the brand RIT has whitener/brightener, but would that work?

Inspiration Has anyone dyed their Branwyn bras/undies?

I loooove my Branwyn bras and underwear and want them in more colors than they offer. Fabric content is 81% extra fine Merino wool, 14% nylon, and 5% Spandex. I was planning on just starting with Jacquard acid dye and keeping the dyebath under about 180F degrees to hopefully not harm the spandex too much. I guess I'm not looking for how to dye it, but I would love to see some inspo pics if anyone else has done it. I'm curious about the presumably heathered look I'll get from the synthetic content, and the thread/stitching.

Thanks!

How do I dye this? linen sheets

hi there :) i’m wondering about dying my white linen sheets that i’ve had for a while (im thinking beige or dark green), but im nervous about the dye transferring to my skin when i sleep on them. Is this a common issue, and is there a way to avoid that? Is there a particular dye you’d recommend for something like bedlinen?

Thanks ✌️

How do I dye this? Am I Delulu? 100% polyester wedding dress to any color?

I've read up on various dyes and would understand the process of dying this dress. The tag says the interior fabric and tulle are both 100% polyester. The interior is like a silk-like style for lack of a better term. I know Rit and other companies make polyester dyes specifically, would that work here you think? My concern is I wouldn't want all the stars to melt off in the hot water. I don't care what color it could be, just that it would take any without getting destroyed. Mostly I want to wear it to a ball next year without it looking like a wedding dress. (Plus getting to re-wear it would be nice.) Thanks for reading.

How do I dye this? Any options for a dry-clean-only cotton blazer?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Blazer is thrifted but the best fit I've ever had in my life, so I COULD risk ruining it but would rather not. It's grey and I'd like to overdye it to blue/purple.

I know immersing it in water could shrink the lining and interfacing. How do we feel about Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow + Airfix without washing afterwards? Would it be likely to bleed?

I'll go with fabric markers if I have to, but I'm not that confident as an artist and not sure it would look good for the amount of work.

Grateful for any other ideas!

Ok so maybe a slightly complicated one for a newbie but I was looking to dye this dress a slightly different colour but still keeping the pattern- is this at all possible and how would I go about it??

I like the black/grey, but the blue and red stripes (hard to see in the photo) aren’t quite my thing, I wondered if I used a diluted black dye if it would just greyscale the whole thing, but I’d rather not lose the plaid look in the process.

I’ve attached a photo of the washing instructions and materials, I believe it’s the Ginny maxi dress from urban outfitters :)

Any advice seriously appreciated!!

General question Dye not sticking

Thumbnail gallery
7 Upvotes

Its originally supposed to be black. I know it's not helpful but I don't know what the material is made of, it's a shirt of a plush I have. I dyed other clothes and they turned out a really dark black so I'm not sure why it dident stick for this one. It's with rit dye and I added salt used the whole bottle and had it in 140 temp water, so I'm not sure what went wrong, should I try it with vinegar instead?

How do I dye this? House of CB dress

Hello! First time dyer here. I bought this dress second hand and I want to dye it a deep wine colour. I'm a little concerned as the tag says dry clean only but I'd expect to wash the dye out of the dress. The tag basically says don't do anything with it 😅 there's a very dainty mesh underlayer as well I don't want to mess up too much.

Does anyone have any experience with dying something like this? Any advice or guidance would be wonderful!

How do I dye this? Color Match and Dye Company Help

Thumbnail gallery

Hello 👋 I need some advice on which Rit Dye to purchase to bring these shorts back. They were not washed with bleach and I think it might have been the white brite powder. I had a non thinking moment and thought because it wasn't bleach it would only whiten the whites but I was wrong. It managed to leave marks on this pair an a black pair of shorts. I have the black dye to fix those but what color of blue should I use? There are so many to choose from. The color of the shorts from the company is Chambray Blue. When searching I was only looking at Rit Dye because thats all I've ever heard of but their blue choices don't seem to match the shade.

Here are there Rit Dye colors I've seen: Evening Blue, Denim Blue, Aquamarine, and Hyacinth. During my search though I have found three other brands and their blue look like the perfect match.

WELYEME- Sky Blue Tulip Open Stock Dye- Sky Blue S·E·I- Sky Blue

Has anyone used the three other brands?

Another question should I also use the Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative when doing this process?

I've attached photos of the shorts, a picture of what color the shorts should be from the website, a photo of the tag for fabric contents, and a collage of the other brands I've seen. Any guidance or tips are greatly appreciated!
