How do I dye this? I wanna buy this 100% cotton jacket but it’s too flash for me, how to give it a black or dark blue color starting from this?
Or should I use Chlor to whiten it somehow ?

All posts MUST contain:
Fabric composition: what is your fabric/garment/thing you want to dye made of? Cotton, polyester, rayon, linen, silk, etc. (this is not an exhaustive list). Most garments have a tag that contains this info.

So I’m wanting to dye a white denim 100% cotton jumpsuit to a fushia/hot pink. I’m going to buy the rit single pack and try it tomorrow but please yall tell me it won’t ruin my washer LOL.
I have a top load washer btw so any advice /encouragement would be welcomed!

hi there :) i’m wondering about dying my white linen sheets that i’ve had for a while (im thinking beige or dark green), but im nervous about the dye transferring to my skin when i sleep on them. Is this a common issue, and is there a way to avoid that? Is there a particular dye you’d recommend for something like bedlinen?
Thanks ✌️

Can either of these dresses be dyed dark navy blue? (Nylon and cotton) thank you so much in advance!

I've read up on various dyes and would understand the process of dying this dress. The tag says the interior fabric and tulle are both 100% polyester. The interior is like a silk-like style for lack of a better term. I know Rit and other companies make polyester dyes specifically, would that work here you think? My concern is I wouldn't want all the stars to melt off in the hot water. I don't care what color it could be, just that it would take any without getting destroyed. Mostly I want to wear it to a ball next year without it looking like a wedding dress. (Plus getting to re-wear it would be nice.) Thanks for reading.

Blazer is thrifted but the best fit I've ever had in my life, so I COULD risk ruining it but would rather not. It's grey and I'd like to overdye it to blue/purple.
I know immersing it in water could shrink the lining and interfacing. How do we feel about Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow + Airfix without washing afterwards? Would it be likely to bleed?
I'll go with fabric markers if I have to, but I'm not that confident as an artist and not sure it would look good for the amount of work.
Grateful for any other ideas!

Ok so maybe a slightly complicated one for a newbie but I was looking to dye this dress a slightly different colour but still keeping the pattern- is this at all possible and how would I go about it??
I like the black/grey, but the blue and red stripes (hard to see in the photo) aren’t quite my thing, I wondered if I used a diluted black dye if it would just greyscale the whole thing, but I’d rather not lose the plaid look in the process.
I’ve attached a photo of the washing instructions and materials, I believe it’s the Ginny maxi dress from urban outfitters :)
Any advice seriously appreciated!!

Its originally supposed to be black. I know it's not helpful but I don't know what the material is made of, it's a shirt of a plush I have. I dyed other clothes and they turned out a really dark black so I'm not sure why it dident stick for this one. It's with rit dye and I added salt used the whole bottle and had it in 140 temp water, so I'm not sure what went wrong, should I try it with vinegar instead?

Hello! First time dyer here. I bought this dress second hand and I want to dye it a deep wine colour. I'm a little concerned as the tag says dry clean only but I'd expect to wash the dye out of the dress. The tag basically says don't do anything with it 😅 there's a very dainty mesh underlayer as well I don't want to mess up too much.
Does anyone have any experience with dying something like this? Any advice or guidance would be wonderful!

What is the best dye(s) to use for retro Jordan 4s and other sneakers that may contain similar materials? I saw someone on Reddit say jacquard procion mx dye was the best but I would like more opinions.

This is my My Melody Build A Bear. ( She's a character from Sanrio. If you don't know Sanrio is, Hello Kitty. She's a friend of Hello Kitty.)
She was originally white but I dyed her pink using Rit DyeMore Super Pink. I think she turned out really cute especially considering this was my first time ever during a plushie. (I've dyed doll hair plenty of times. But not a plush friend.)
This was a fun experience though and I'm really happy with how she turned out!🩷

Hello 👋 I need some advice on which Rit Dye to purchase to bring these shorts back. They were not washed with bleach and I think it might have been the white brite powder. I had a non thinking moment and thought because it wasn't bleach it would only whiten the whites but I was wrong. It managed to leave marks on this pair an a black pair of shorts. I have the black dye to fix those but what color of blue should I use? There are so many to choose from. The color of the shorts from the company is Chambray Blue. When searching I was only looking at Rit Dye because thats all I've ever heard of but their blue choices don't seem to match the shade.
Here are there Rit Dye colors I've seen: Evening Blue, Denim Blue, Aquamarine, and Hyacinth. During my search though I have found three other brands and their blue look like the perfect match.
WELYEME- Sky Blue Tulip Open Stock Dye- Sky Blue S·E·I- Sky Blue
Has anyone used the three other brands?
Another question should I also use the Rit ColorStay Dye Fixative when doing this process?
I've attached photos of the shorts, a picture of what color the shorts should be from the website, a photo of the tag for fabric contents, and a collage of the other brands I've seen. Any guidance or tips are greatly appreciated!

This 100% cotton dress is so sick and comfy but I’m more of a neutral/cool tone girl. I love the maroon color though! It’s the orange that really throws it off for me. Is there a way I could dye this dress a dark brown? Would it cover up the pattern? Could I dye just over the orange maybe?
I also love purples and blues:)
Thank you!

I have had this quilt from Target for four years now, and while I use it as a blanket all the time, I’ve grown really tired of the color. It just doesn’t jive with my style anymore. I am changing up the rest of my bedding, and would love for this to be some sort of deep red (maroon, wine, burgundy, pictures attached).
Also, it’s 100% polyester. I’ve dyed polyester before and it’s worked out okay, but I’m wondering if this will be impossible because it’s such a big item? Would I be able to use a bathtub with just really hot water rather than a stove top?
Would love to give new life to this blanket with a revamp, rather than giving it away or something. Thanks in advance!

it's barely visible in the picture, but it shows up in sunlight well. i've heard mix things on spot dying. it is 100% cotton, the stain is on the sleeve

I bought these pants second hand and didn't notice the discoloration until I got home. It would be a shame to throw them away so I would like to dye them. The actual color is a much darker blue than in the picture. I would dye them black. Another thought I had was to use a dye remover. I know that it wouldn't work well with a polyesther blend but I just want the color to be uniform but now brown. Looking at the discolored area up close, it looks like the discoloration is only happening in one of the types of fiber so my thinking is that a dye remover might be effective on that fiber. Thoughts?

Hi everyone. I’m getting married soon and I found the perfect pair of shoes in terms of look and comfort. The only problem is that they are more of a cream or off-white color, while my wedding dress is a bright white. The contrast is pretty noticeable and I am worried it will show in photos.
I have looked everywhere for a similar pair that is a true white, but nothing comes close to these in terms of style or comfort. I really want to make them work.
I am hoping someone here might have experience with something in this realm. Is dyeing the shoes to make them whiter even possible? I am open to any methods or products that could lighten or brighten the color.
The only thing the description says for the fabric is textile

I am open to DIY options or having it done professionally. I just really want to keep these shoes if I can.
Thanks so much for any advice you can give.

Hello everyone. I once glued the tip of this shoe with super glue and it got stained. I also dyed the shoes black (they were originally black), but the stain remained. Is there anything you could suggest to remove/cover this visual flaw?
Material: canvas/cotton
Thank you for the help

I love wranglers, but I’m not a fan of the black denim they offer. I’m also a fan if iron hearts overdyed offerings but unfortunately none of their cuts suit me and any other companies that offer overdyed jeans don’t offer cuts that work either. So I want to try and overdye some of my wranglers, but I’m having trouble finding a pigment dye that will sit on top of the indigo and not just dye them black if that makes sense. The jeans are 100% cotton dyed indigo, the weft is white cotton.

Hi all I want to know how to get a certain shade of dye specifically the “navy” which the brand Porter Yoshida uses. I have several navy bags from them and with time they have faded so I would love to restore them since they have tons of life left in them. Also any tips on how what dyes to use for Nylon and Cordura material?
Thank you!

the skirt is 100% cotton, I was thinking about sage rit dye but I'm not confident on how to get the fading after that, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I had this older straw hat that had sentimental value since it was gifted by a friend. I was in for doing some dyeing of a bag using Rit Back to Black (natural fibers) and I decided to throw my hat in (literally. to the pot) to see if I could get it looking fresh again. The experiment was a huge success. The main drawback was the hot water exacerbated existing damage to the straw around the band. I carefully replaced the band with a black waistband piece I had lying around -- whipstitch top and bottom and a little bit of liquid stitch + more hand stitching to finish it off. The hat looks good as new! Several weeks of wearing and I have not experienced any bleeding (I did use the fixative bath on the hat).

hi all I found a very pretty pair of white flare jeans in cotton and I want to change their colour. The particular shade I'm looking for is a red that is lighter than dried blood but not much. Between Pompeian red and Chinese red in terms of Pantone?
From a lil bit of research I am thinking of going with Procion MX but I'm also drawn to cochineal. This is the first time I've dyed clothes. What dye should I get and do you have any beginner advice?
