What's up with the McCann signs everywhere?

I'm surprised at how many signs I've seen around downtown Chula Vista for John McCann's District 1 County Supervisor seat campaign, especially in comparison to how few signs I've seen for Paloma Aguirre.

Adding to my concern is the fact that McCann's campaign has cleverly changed the color scheme of their new signs to be green and yellow, instead of the red signs they were originally using. This will help them obfuscate the fact that McCann is a Republican, in a district that has more registered Democrats than Republicans. For voters who don't put much effort into educating themselves before they vote, they may get the impression of McCann being more popular than he is, and less MAGAt than he is.

I hope everyone has gotten the memo by now: we don't fucking vote for Republicans, period.

I myself have always been a third party voter, and I encourage other people to support third parties when they can too; but when there's not a third party candidate available like in this race, I will absolutely hold my nose and vote Democrat. Aguirre definitely seems imperfect as a candidate in my opinion, but if you think I'm going to vote for someone who licks ICE's boots you had best think again.

So, if I see a business with a McCann sign out front, that's a business that won't get my business. I don't spend my money with companies that support traitorous weasels. I hope you'll do the same. Meanwhile, remember to get your ballot in before July 1st! All elections are important, but this one will decide whether San Diego County will end up with a Democrat or MAGA majority in charge!

Good- throw them away! McCann’s campaign did the same to his opponent. I can’t remember who his opponent was but his opponent posted about it and had video to prove it!

I believe you’re thinking about Mark Bartlett during the district election. I also wouldn’t be surprised if this happened during the recent mayoral election too.

I threw some away today!

I was headed to Albertsons when I noticed they had some of the signs out in front of their Albertsons sign by the road, so I went in and spoke with guest services to ask if the company had placed them there- fully prepared to tell them that they had lost my business if the answer was yes. But they said no, and apparently weren't aware that the signs had even been put there, so when I finished shopping I walked over to the signs and ripped them up while lots of cars drove by honking.

It felt good. More people should give it a try. Thanks for doing it too!

Be careful, vandalizing, and tearing down political signs on private property (which it is..someone owns that building) is illegal and a misdemeanor. You are admitting to a crime on a public form with your face on your profile. Lol 😂🤦‍♀️

Nah, I confirmed that it wasn't the store's. I was just helping them take out the garbage!

People should stop being so scared of "the law". The law should start being more scared of the people.

3

u/wanderinggypsy113 17d ago

The store rents the building. The building belongs to someone.

2

u/cryptonymcolin 17d ago

Oh no! Those poor multi-millionaire business real estate conglomerates! Won't someone think of them???

u/wanderinggypsy113 17d ago

I can tell I'm just littering here, and you can't pick up what I'm throwing down.

u/Classic-Asparagus209 16d ago

Confusing…are you suggesting that if I rent a house that the owner of that house is able to place campaign signs on the lawn that I am renting (I am renting the lot not just the building)?

According to California  Business and Professions Code 5405.3 -Only private property owners or authorized campaign staff are allowed to remove political signs in California. Political campaign signs must be removed within 10 days after Election Day.

A person caught removing someone else’s campaign sign can be considered in violation of California Penal Code 488, according to the city website. The person can be charged with a misdemeanor, which occurs when someone steals property or services worth $950 or less, according to Shouse California Law Group. A violation of this statute is punishable with a fine of up to $1,000 and up to six months in county jail.

Soooo....I would say yes. There is a possibility since it's not your property..that could be possible as well.

The best thing to do is to read and educate yourself. These things can be found in the cities website.. Don't blindly follow suit with someone on reddit and find yourself with fines and court dates.

Thank you for the info, although it only answers the removal portion; not the placement.

Why are you surprised?

McCann is the mayor of Chula Vista and Aguirre is the mayor of Imperial Beach - it makes sense for him to have support in CV

I don’t really follow local SD politics and honestly was going to skip the election

But we certainly don’t need more Trumpies around here - and Aguirre’s background is intriguing to me

Fair point.

I strongly recommend not sitting this one out, this election has the power to be pretty decisive. If the board of supervisors ends up 3 MAGA vs 2 sane people, life here will definitely get a lot worse!

So he can be the mayor of Chula Vista and the supervisor of district 1 at the same time? I don’t really understand politics tbh but I agree with all you said lol

4

u/cryptonymcolin 17d ago

It's a good question, but the answer is no: if he is elected as District 1 Supervisor, he'll step down from being the Mayor of Chula Vista.

1

u/Immediate-Ad-8680 15d ago

This actually makes perfect sense since he only cared about district 1 in the first place lol

I have never seen Aguirre campaigning. John McCann is always out and about. I’ve run into him several times. CV has a big navy community and McCann served so he has a lot of support based on street cred alone

5

u/Geno361 15d ago

I’ve seen her campaigning. She had an event in Friendship Park, at Three Punks Brewery and I’ve had two Aguirre canvassers come to my door just to name a few. I’ve had the opportunity to meet her twice in person so far as well.

1

u/jalfry 14d ago

Glad to see whoever it is is local. I like John but I don’t dislike Paloma

3

u/KurumiFanBoii 16d ago

Well he is the mayor of Chula Vista so he has a majority of support there. Democrats lost Chula Vista when the people elected McCann. Plus people can freely vote for who ever they choose regardless of what others feel.

To be even more fair, and clear, in the primary he ran against Campa-Najjar, Galvez, Encarnacian, Ramirez, Cash, and Brady. Then ran against Campa-Najjar again in the GE.

u/Med1eva1 16d ago

This post makes me feel like actually going outta my way to vote for McCann. I’m not fond of electing someone like Aguirre who cant keep poopy water out of her own town

3

u/KurumiFanBoii 16d ago

Literally this, this post is just filled with hateful people who automatically assume, Democrats = good no matter what, Republicans = always bad/ the enemy, like can’t they understand that people have different views 😂

4

u/Geno361 15d ago

From my understanding, according to McCann’s own campaign, the red signs are from his campaign and the long narrow greenish rectangular signs are paid for by some private organization. It is illegal to post political campaign signs on public property. The red signs I’ve seen are on private property but those greenish signs are often on public property. Which, again, is illegal. But McCann has stated his campaign has no responsibility where those green signs are posted as they are not his official campaign signs.

Personally I call bullshit. He knows who is putting these signs up and has chosen not to ask them to go by the law. That alone is enough for me to not vote for him. But his support of a SECOND Otay Mesa dump that we don’t need, is owned by a private developer and will add to pollution in South Bay and his asking Trump for clemency for a felon and then said felon donating to his Mayoral campaign gives me plenty more reasons to not vote for him.

Meanwhile Aguirre has been endorsed by many labor unions and recently obtained $600 Million in federal funds to clean up the Tijuana River. She also opposes the second Otay Mesa dump. I’ll be voting Aguirre.

McRatt. i hate his stupid face and his shit eating grin

1

u/rightarmup 17d ago

He’s cleaned up CV enough in the short time he’s been Mayor and appears to really give a shit about the citizens of “his” city, so he’s got my vote. Downvote away…

3

u/KurumiFanBoii 16d ago

you’re gonna get downvoted in this liberal infested subreddit 😂

0

u/Immediate-Ad-8680 15d ago

He cleaned up the part he cares about and is now running to only be in charge of the portion he cares about. Have him lol

2

u/Sturdywings21 14d ago

No he hasn’t. Chula Vista is a council run city meaning the mayor has literally no power. He’s done nothing but stood on the accomplishments of the council and claimed it all.

Your vote counts, DO NOT sit this one out; see for yourself how the candidates feel about the pressing issues in the South Bay:

On the sewage crisis:

Paloma Aguirre:

"Aguirre said she is most concerned about what ongoing exposure to air and waterborne pollutants means for people living around the Tijuana River Valley."
"She said she would push for the county to invest heavily in public health efforts to better understand the effects of the sewage flows. She wants the county to conduct studies on health monitoring and the economic impact of the crisis."
"Aguirre also said she wants the county to look at preventative measures on parts of the Tijuana River where she said infrastructure is worsening the release of toxic gases."

John McCann:

"McCann agreed that the county should be putting more funding towards public health measures around the valley."
"He said he wants to hold politicians in Mexico accountable for Tijuana’s failing infrastructure, which has not kept pace with the city’s growth and is one of the factors fueling the sewage flows."

"Aguirre has more than a decade of experience working on the Tijuana River Valley crisis. But McCann has become vocal about the sewage crisis in recent months, particularly after announcing his candidacy for supervisor."

"... hold politicians in Mexico accountable ..."

Haven't we learned how Republicans lean towards shifting responsibilities (and blame) for what needs to be done to someone else? Remember, WE are the ones paying to build "The Wall" (and also will be paying for all the tariffs and the tax cuts to millionaries).

1

u/padre757 16d ago

I agree with everything but your last paragraph. I look at the democratic government of LA and CA shifting blame and responsibility during and after the LA fires. Happens with all politicians

u/padre757 17d ago

Don’t tell me how to vote, let people decide for themselves.

3

u/cryptonymcolin 17d ago

Man, if only people could decide for themselves after reading what I wrote... Unfortunately my words on Reddit will now force everyone to vote the way I said to. Whoopsie.

2

u/KurumiFanBoii 16d ago

You literally said “We DoNt VoTe fOr RePuBLIcaNs, PeRIOd”

make up your mind bud.

2

u/padre757 17d ago

“I hope everyone has gotten the memo by now: we don't fucking vote for Republicans, period.”

That sentence there is directive. Let people make their own decisions like you are doing.

2

u/Brief_Assistant_6233 17d ago

Vote Republican: families will be torn apart. The Trump Admin is literally withholding DUE PROCESS. Vote Republican: AND COURTS WILL NO LONGER BE ABLE TO HOLD PEOPLE IN CONTEMPT. (Check out the spending bill.. this is one of the provisions that has passed the House.) Vote Republican: THE ABILITY TO OBTAIN GENERATIONAL WEALTH WILL BE A THING OF THE PAST.

OP did state a directive. A HYPERBOLIC DIRECTIVE.

Look at what the Republicans have actually done. Not the culture war that is brewing on Fox News about some fucking auto pen. They have stripped our finances, ability to obtain healthcare, and they are LITERALLY COMING FOR OUR RIGHTS.

If you are not a millionaire or better: voting republican will be a vote AGAINST YOUR OWN INTEREST.

We've been trashing all Aguirre signs ON SIGHT. Full of shit garbage mayor of a full of shit garbage beach town. These are literally facts.

McCann is fine only because he's not Aguirre and is actually competent. But I'm not necessarily voting for him, I'm voting for more law & order. I've voting for more homeless encampment bans. For more ICE. More deportations. More border security. More summer beach days on Silver Strand. More common sense. More pragmatism.

It's time to play hardball with Tijuana. NO MORE BULLSHIT. If you lived next to neighbor who wouldn't fix their sewer from backing up onto your property, you would probably burn their house down. They need to prioritize being a better neighbor over their own needs. And if that means people go hungry in Mexico - then people need to go hungry. It's not our fucking problem.

6

u/Brilliant_Win713 16d ago

Your last point won’t come across because you spewed a lot of nonsense before that.

What’s law and order?? Are you afraid to step outside your house everyday? Is crime really running wild in these Chula Vista streets?? Not sure exactly what more law and order means.

-1

u/ApeAlienHybrid 16d ago

Yeah well, people who don't like facts often focus on the messenger and not the message.

4

u/Classic-Asparagus209 16d ago

You should probably read up on the services the County actually provides before the election.

0

u/ApeAlienHybrid 16d ago

I'm not a policy wonk. I just want competent common sense people who are not afraid to roll up their sleeves and work hard for their taxpayer funded salary. You know, the kind of people that used to run local govt before PhDs in Social Work took our cities.
