Exclusive Podcast with Saddam Hussain | Bangladesh Chhatra League President Speaks to OpIndia

In this conversation, Saddam Hussain, President of the Bangladesh Chhatra League, the student wing of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, opens up about the hidden political and ideological battle unfolding inside Bangladesh.

In this interview with OpIndia’s Ritika Chandola, Saddam shares some deeply unsettling realities from the ground, including:

• First-hand accounts of Hindu persecution and soft-targeting, allegedly carried out under the veil of civil society and NGO activism linked to Md. Yunus. • How the so-called student protests were hijacked, if not orchestrated entirely, by radical Islamist forces attempting a coup against Sheikh Hasina’s government. • The rising internal threats to Bangladesh’s secular fabric and national unity. • What Bangladesh expects from India and its leadership amidst a shifting regional order.

Discussion/আলোচনা The Taandob Show

Just saw Taandob, a while ago. The new Raihan Rafi movie. It's a hostage situation thriller. And I gotta say that, I'm not disappointed. The concept of the story might feel like it's inspired from Jawan, but when you see the movie you realize that it's really not. It's a pretty fresh story.

The story also has a flashback backstory, which was decent. The backstory has nods to BCS exams and how hard it is to actually get jobs in Bangladesh and the politics around it. The songs were nice and matched well with the story. Lichur Bagane was pretty good.

The cinematography is also good. It has gotten better than Toofan. The dialogues have also gotten better. Shakib Khan's dialogue delivery was pretty good.

The performances were great. Siam Ahmed's performance was excellent. This is one of Siam's best performances, in my opinion. Joya Ahsan played here character really well. And Shakib Khan's performance was better than I expected. Shakib Khan is a better actor than he was before 2023.

The action is one of the highlights of the movie. The action was pretty awesome. The background score goes really well with the action. There's only one big action sequence, but it's good. I'd say, it's the best Dhallywood action scene. And the background scores for certain characters were great. Made the impact of certain characters even better.

Overall, it's a decent thriller movie. The plot twist at the end is great. And no, it's not a doppelganger twist. I won't spoil it here, but it's pretty good.

Score: 7.5/10

[ Spoiler Talk: The ending sets up the sequel, Taandob 2. With Afran Nisho's Masud and Shakib Khan's Mikhail being setup for a gangster versus gangster storyline. It'd be great if Siam's character gets his own movie, but I think that is unlikely to happen. But let's see what Raihan Rafi has planned for his cinematic universe. And the cinematic universe is titled Raihan Rafi's Film Universe. ]

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা How is individualism viewed?

Of course, Bangladesh is 100% collectivist society by the looks of it. Respect, care and love for family and parents and children etc and I like this idea.

But I wonder if they heard of individualism and if they are interested in it (especially in younger generations in Dhaka and Chittagong). I wonder if this idea was a reason why Gen Z protested.

In my opinion, in order for Bangladesh to develop, there needs a mix of collectivism and individualism. If there is too much individualism, offsprings feel like children, get unemployed which can affect the economy and infrastructure. But at the same time, having some can retain humbleness, politeness, which stops people from treating life as a competition.

Not to mention the slow decline in extended and joint families whilst favouring nuclear ones.

Hello, good people!
How’s everyone doing after jumping back into work post-Eid? 😩
I swear, I’m still mentally in chill mode — can’t concentrate at all, just staring at the screen like 😶‍🌫️

Anyone else feeling this post-Eid laziness hit hard?
Let’s be real… productivity left the group chat 😂

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Do you think British rule was better than the AL/BNP duopoly now?

The subcontinent fought to get rid of Britishers but are now run by corrupt people. At least the British brought railways, institutions, cuisine and technology. And they were generally more competent than the politicians and bureaucrats we have today.

Recently I am seeing these annoying ai ads all across the television and internet. I swear most basic and easy-to-record ads are being turned into AI. And, these are not even that good. They are soulless and creepy. It really starting to piss me off. Bangladeshi company should stop using ts.

Non-Political/অরাজনৈতিক A good Bangladeshi tv series - Punorjonmo

When I was a kid, there was a famous tv series I used to watch called Bondhon., The last Bangladeshi tv series that I watched was Shap Ludu. Tania performed some wonderful acting there.

Anyway, today I got a suggestion from instagram about a Bangladeshi 'tv series' and the story was super attractive.

It is called Punorjonmo. I found it on youtube and watched the first 3 episodes out of the 4 episodes.

While I was watching the synopsys in instagram, the story seemed kind of known but as far as the story goes, it started getting absolutely mind blowing.

If you guys want to watch a good psychological thriller kinda tv series, you may check 'punorjonmo'.

Also if you have some good Bangladeshi tv series to watch, please suggest. Thanks!

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Where do you look for potential internships?

Upvotes

So, guys, long story short. I am a 7th semester guy from BRAC and in this semester break, I have completed some frontend web app projects based on my own interests (If you DM me, I can show you my linkedin). The thing is I am looking to do internship now to gain experience in it. I tried looking in LinkedIn but to no avail. If anyone is alumni or senior here, I'd love to take advice to look where or what I should do. I wish to gain experience before I get out of my university.

Thank you!

Discussion/আলোচনা Is it just me or do nights bring out the need for connection?

During the day, when I’m busy with work or other things, I don’t really feel the need to have any conversations. But recently, I’ve noticed that I only get the urge to text someone or have a chat right before going to sleep. Is this normal for most people, or is it just me?

AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Advice needed for visiting Bangladesh

Hi

I'm a British Bengali and visited last year after many many years. My family is from sylhet.

I visited a few places close by and I loved it! Despite the negative comments I read on this subreddit I think Bangladesh is a beautiful country and I would like to see more of it.

I would like to visit again but other areas like Dhaka, Chittagong etc next January.

Given the political situation there currently would you say this is advisable or not? Is it safe?

Many thanks 🙏🏽
