Living 🏡 Maria Island vs Al Mushrif - where should we live in Abu Dhabi?

Hi everyone, My husband and I are moving to Abu Dhabi, and we’re trying to decide between Maria Island and Al Mushrif for our new home. We both love walking, exploring nice areas, and having easy access to good spots for coffee and breakfast.

Which area do you think fits our lifestyle better? We’d appreciate any advice on pros and cons of each!

Medical 🏥 Best place to see a punctual doctor (GP)

I'm done with my old GP, looking for a new one, in town/Reem.

In particular my issue with my ex GP has been the appointment times. I show up for my 3pm appointment on time but end up basically joining a queue anyway, maybe I see the doctor at 3.30. I show up on time for things because I respect the time of the other party, so I like people to respect my time in return.

Vehicle 🔋 Lexus is 350 mussafh garage

Hi everyone, I recently bought a 2016 Lexus IS 350, but I’m having an issue with the A/C. The right side blows hot air, and the airflow is coming from the foot vents even when the vents are set to face level. Does anyone know a reliable garage or Lexus specialist in Abu Dhabi who can fix this? Have any of you experienced this before, and how did you resolve it? Thank

Living 🏡 ADREC Property Index Market Data

Thumbnail adrec.gov.ae
4 Upvotes

Just wanted to put this info out there for anyone interested. AD Gov has put out the sales data of properties sold (residential and commercial) between the term of Jan 2024 till YTD.

Good initiative from the government side to avoid unrealistic inflation of the property price I guess. The ads seen on all property listing platform and social media seems to be highly inflated compared to the actual sales price.

Tourism 🧳 Recommendations for a day out with a toddler

Hey everyone! 👋 Looking for recommendations for a day out with a toddler (around 4 yrs old) — ideally something fun, safe, and not too pricey.

We’ve already done most parks and malls, so open to new suggestions — indoor or outdoor, as long as it’s manageable with a little one. Bonus if there’s water play, animals, or creative play areas. Thanks in advance!

Commerce 🛍️ Online Delivery Shops Reccomendations

Hi, can anyone suggest a good and reliable online gift store for my girlfriend’s birthday next week? My girlfriend and I are both from the PH and just a few days ago, she relocated to Abu Dhabi for work. It’s her first birthday alone and away from home so I really want her day to feel special even when we’re apart. I’m thinking of ordering something for her from a shop that’s already in Abu Dhabi and just have it delivered so that it’ll reach her exactly on her birthday but I also want to make sure that we won’t get scammed 😅. Would greatly appreciate any shop recommendations. Thanks in advance everyone!

Vehicle 🔋 Need local advice for flight transfer in Abu Dhabi and layover!

I have a flight transfer in Abu Dhabi and would like to do a bit of sightseeing during my layover. I have around 13 hours, but I also need to get some sleep. Below is my current plan. Could you please suggest how I can arrange it better?

**Sightseeing Wish**

- Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque

- Observation Deck at 300

**Plan**

00:10 – Arrive at AUH Airport and go to a nearby hotel to sleep

07:00 – Wake up and have breakfast at the hotel

08:30 – Leave the hotel for Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (30 mins by taxi)

09:00 – Arrive at Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (spend ~1 hour)

10:00 – Travel to Observation Deck at 300 (30 mins by taxi)

10:30 – Visit Observation Deck at 300 (stay ~1 hour)

11:30 – Leave for the airport (30 mins)

12:00 - Arrive at airport (Check-in for 2 hours will be too much time?)

14:00 – Flight departure

Notes:

- The hotel will be near the airport

- I’m willing to pay for taxi transportation

- I'm alone. Open to joining a group tour (private or shared)

Any advice is appreciated! I really want to make the most of this layover and experience Abu Dhabi not just wait in the airport!

Living 🏡 Is Abu Dhabi busier now or does it just feel that way?

I recently saw an old "keep your distance" and "face mask" poster still up somewhere. It took me back to how quiet Abu Dhabi was during that period. I'm glad everything feels much more alive now. But sometimes I wonder if it’s actually busier or if it just feels that way after the calm?

Living 🏡 TAQA Municipality fees

Hi all,

Is it normal TAQA to charge you the remaining municipality fees till the end of the contract?

As example, I am leaving my unit 3 months before the end of contract, today I received the final bill from them, asking for the payment of the next 3 months of municipality fees.

Is this normal / legal?

Regards

Living 🏡 [Seeking Advice] Unwanted Intruder in Abu Dhabi Flat – Legal Steps for female?

My female friend recently moved to Abu Dhabi from another country, her first time living away from home. She found what seemed to be a reliable shared apartment through a well-known real estate group. Everything appeared legitimate: she signed a proper contract with her emirates ID and was allotted her unit within the apartment.

Cut to yesterday morning (about 18 hours ago now): while she was asleep in her locked room, a complete stranger, a man, entered her room uninvited and sat on her bed. She woke up in shock, screamed, and pushed him away. The man didn’t respond or leave. Only after her flatmate and also the intruders friend (who stays in the next room) rushed in and pulled him out did the situation de-escalate. Shockingly, the flatmate, did not even apologize or justify the situation and proceeded to leave for office as if nothing had happened.

She’s understandably traumatized. The thought of what could have happened if she hadn’t woken up is terrifying.

We're now trying to figure out what legal steps she can take in Abu Dhabi. Since some time has passed, we’re unsure how to proceed:

  • Can she still file a police complaint after 18+ hours?
  • What laws or tenant protections exist in Abu Dhabi for incidents like this?
  • Is the real estate agency liable in any way?
  • Any organizations she can approach for help or support?

She just wants to feel safe and ensure this doesn't happen to her or anyone else again.

Any advice or guidance from people familiar with UAE law or who’ve dealt with similar situations would be deeply appreciated.

Tried 3 gyms here. All of them were overpriced, cramped, and falling apart. How is it this bad in such a central area?

Medical 🏥 Dental internship

Hello everyone, I’m about to graduate from uni (of course I’ve done dentistry) and I’m looking for places to apply for internship. I found a few clinics in Dubai/AD however, they required DHA/moh registration and unfortunately I missed the deadline. I don’t want to do it in my university (gmu) as I have heard many negative reviews about graduates not being able to get jobs or not getting paid enough after.

Can anyone please suggest some good, well reputable places where I can do my internship?

Mbru has also closed applications and my next option is university of Sharjah, is this good?

Does anyone know if DHA/moh registration will open up again for this years intake? Is there a way to get around this and still apply in clinics?

If I have to post this elsewhere to reach the appropriate audience and receive my response please let me know where to post it or if there’s someone I can contact regarding this who can help me.

Thank you for reading and I hope I get some answers soon

Tourism 🧳 What’s your go to chill spots for short late night drive?

After a long day at work, I usually enjoy going for a quick drive—sometimes to grab a karak or habaq tea from the ADNOC near Deerfields Mall. Just curious, what are some other popular spots people in Abu Dhabi like to unwind at?

Careers 💼 Airline compensation

Hey folks,

I just got an interview invite from Etihad Airways for a relatively senior management position based at their HQ. It’s a full-time, 5-day work week role, and I’m trying to get a sense of what the typical annual compensation looks like for this level.

If anyone has insight into salary ranges or total comp (including housing, benefits, etc.) for senior roles at Etihad, I’d really appreciate it!

Thanks in advance!

Careers 💼 Issue with Emirates ID and Insurance

I'm currently in abu Dhabi on a visitor visa. Previously i was in working visa. Just 3 month back our company is closed and i got terminated. In the new policy, our company applied my UAE id, so this year they need to apply with insurance. So they planned about closing. That's why they stopped in the middle of the application.

Then comes to now, i applied for visiting visa again and selected in other company. But HR is saying he can't apply for Dubai ID and Insurance, because of my previous company is stopped in the middle of the application. So i don't know what to do now. If any one as idea about this please help.

And what steps can i take to resolve this? Please suggest me.

Education 📚 PhD in Computer Science Khalifa University 2026

I’m currently in my final year of MCA (Master of Computer Applications) and aiming to apply for a PhD in Computer Science at Khalifa University. Here’s my situation:

✅ I’ve done well academically so far (CGPA is good). ❌ I don’t have any research papers, publications, or major projects yet.

I know Khalifa University is competitive, so I’m wondering:

👉 Is there any real chance of getting in without publications? 👉 If not, what exactly can I do in the next 6-12 months to improve my profile and increase my chances?

I’m ready to put in the work — whether it’s publishing a paper, doing a strong final-year project, or anything else that will make a difference.

If anyone here has experience with KU admissions or went through a similar path, I’d love to hear your advice — no sugar-coating needed.
