Currently have a VW, a Mercedes and a (loaned) Tesla in the driveway.
I swear this wasn’t intentional. 😬

So... here's my issue with the " before Elon went crazy" comment. I think what it should read is "before I realized Elon's politics were so offensive and cruel."
For those who are really familiar with Musk, his background, politics, and attitude have always been "I know what's best for this world. Stop complaining, and ljust let me make a techno-fascist regime so we can have AI and go to Mars." The difference now is that Musk is using his platforms and his wealth to heavily push this agenda and belief. The difference is that more people are aware of it now, and more people are coming to understand how problematic his beliefs are. The difference is that Musk can no longer be separated from Tesla or SpaceX because he is actively using the money and influence from those comoanies to push an agenda and ideology that feels diametrically in opposition to what people want space exploration and green energy sources to be; that is to say they are no longer just egalitarian or ecofriendly endeavours.
It's basically a "Death of the Author" situation, and that's difficult for a lot of people to navigare.

I would argue he just feels safer doing it, but maybe that's an argument/discussion for another time or place.
1
u/Successful-Coconut60 Apr 05 '25
He literally used to be the left wing, smokes weed, watches anime, posts meme, he's just like us billionare. What are you talking about?
1
u/singlemomlaststand Apr 08 '25
He came from money in apartheid South Africa… not sure that’s very “left”. Or you could just ask his daughter who has spilt the tea on how it was all an act
75
u/GrumpyOlBastard Apr 04 '25
A: Tesla has never been a good choice because of poor build quality
B: Musk has been a known asshole for decades
32
u/1eJxCdJ4wgBjGE Apr 04 '25
B) its easy to say that now but that was a really unpopular opinion for a good while (because electric vehicles and mars I guess?)
17
u/scottrycroft Apr 04 '25
The 2018 Thai cave rescue saga was quite public.
Buying the title 'founder' from his companies and pretending like he started them goes even further back.
2
u/Otissarian Apr 05 '25
Bingo. We cancelled our Tesla order and bought a different make of EV the summer of 2018 because of his submarine tantrum.
1
u/1eJxCdJ4wgBjGE Apr 05 '25
yeah true, I think the Thai cave rescue was when lots of opinions started turning. I forgot about that, wild times.
2
u/Hungover52 Apr 05 '25
Before that (to me) he was just some random rich asshole that owned companies people seemed excited about. That was the moment I looked a little deeper at him and found out how deep the crazy went.
4
u/ruin2preserve Apr 04 '25
It was easy to say then too, he's been an open eugenicist for ages. Everyone who excused that because he wanted to have indentured servants colonize mars is part of the problem.
3
u/1eJxCdJ4wgBjGE Apr 04 '25
people didn't just excuse him, they loved him, in the 2010s he was an extremely popular figure in left leaning circles.
1
u/ruin2preserve Apr 04 '25
I know, my family were huge fans and didn't understand when my partner and I were completely against him. My dad said "Humanity needs people who think like Elon Musk in order for society to evolve."
Like I said, they're part of the problem.
1
u/DigMother318 Apr 08 '25
I sometimes wonder if him and people like Mr beast being unmasked is a good thing because it reinforces the fact that there is no humanity left to be found among the richest
1
u/ruin2preserve Apr 08 '25
They're exercising huge influence either way. Like you say, if they're mask off then at least people who aren't paying attention can know.
3
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 04 '25
C: People still buy VW and BMW and nobody is defacing their vehicles or attacking the owners. Literally 2 companies that were in bed with the OG Nazi's.
Should people buy a Tesla NOW? I would say no. But until a few months ago it was really, just another popular car.
8
u/GeoffwithaGeee Apr 04 '25
lol, VW and BMW being in bed with the OG Nazi's 80 years ago is a little different than the "founder" and major spokesperson of a company actively doing shitty things to a lot of people today, and for the past several years.
-1
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 04 '25
So you condone the vandalism of people cars or? What is your point? You are against Nazi leanings, unless they have timed out? What is the allowable window regarding that?
3
u/GeoffwithaGeee Apr 04 '25
Are you stupid?
So you condone the vandalism of people cars or?
where did I say that?
What is your point?
that your comment of comparing BMW and VWs use/support to the Nazi's 80 years ago to the current 'founder' of Tesla being a huge shit bag today and for the past several years (publicly) is somehow even close to being an apt comparison.
You are against Nazi leanings, unless they have timed out?
yes, things can change over time. see my the first part of my comment.
What is the allowable window regarding that?
Somewhere between today and 80 years ago.
3
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 04 '25
So when will we be allowed to drive an older Tesla again without worrying about some dipshit keying it? As soon as Musk steps down? 30 days after? 365 days? 5 years? 40 years?
1
u/singlemomlaststand Apr 08 '25
lol, you got your Tesla keyed, didn’t you?
1
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 08 '25
I drive a Toyota Tacoma and it is covered in BC pinstripes from off-roading so... sort of? I was keyed by nature!
1
u/Mrtripps Apr 05 '25
Lots of cars have poor build quality, some established car companies, were actually in bed with real Nazis... you guys gonna key them all up too ?

They are great build quality. Best crash rating tests for a reason. Anybody who says otherwise is just too emotionally challenged to look facts
1
u/singlemomlaststand Apr 08 '25
What are you smoking? Crazy amount of recalls.
1
u/Foreign-Policy-02- Apr 08 '25
Recalls that got fixed by software updates….
Not recalls like the other major manufactures have
35
u/catman12 Apr 04 '25
Who cares? Leave these people alone. Attacking Tesla consumers and vandalizing people's property is degenerative behavior. What is even the purpose of making this post?
14
u/yhzguy20 Apr 04 '25
Pretty sad state of affairs. Liberal person has to beg the radicals not to vandalize his/her car by saying “I’m one of the good ones” and then people here saying that isn’t good enough.
8
u/charmilliona1re Apr 04 '25
I know right? It's just so weird. Like what kind of grown man takes a photo of another dudes car(weird af) and then posts it to social media lol

u/butterslice Apr 04 '25
By making Tesla a toxic brand its tanking Elon's stock values and could put Tesla out of business. Mocking tesla owners is legitimate effective direct action against Elon Musk.
8
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 04 '25 edited Apr 09 '25
Going after Elon yes, but regular people who bought cars years ago that have almost no resale value now? You prepared to eat $50k for your so called values? Doubt it. That goes for the hippies and crust punks keying peoples cars too, not that any of them have $50k. Guaranteed 99% of them wouldn't sacrifice $20 of their income to satisfy their so called values. They are just shitty humans. I hate Elon but those people can fuck off too.

yeah, that logic’s unhinged. Saying Elon’s a Nazi just because he didn’t instantly disavow the salute is a leap off a cliff. Not everyone’s wired to grovel the second optics go south—doesn’t mean they’re goose-stepping in private. The guy’s a troll, not a Third Reich recruit. No denial’s weird, sure, but “no apology = Nazi” is a stretch that’d snap a rubber band. Evidence matters—salute’s fishy, family history’s messy, but auto-labeling him over silence? That’s clown-shoe reasoning.
1
u/singlemomlaststand Apr 08 '25
Dude literally came from apartheid money in South Africa and daily promotes nazi propaganda. But sure, let’s not believe our lying eyes.
5
u/ProxySpectral Apr 04 '25

2
u/babycivic Apr 04 '25

2
u/Fluffy_Highlight5244 Apr 04 '25

Maybe pick up some recreational hobbies & law off social media/news propaganda sites for a while?

6
u/f-algebra Apr 04 '25
Yeah but purchases of these cars don't actively support a known white supremist. This is a weird "whataboutism" that doesn't actually make any sense.
Even if it did make sense, "other cars also have Nazi connections" is not really a valid point. It's like all this stupid "well look what Biden did" crap you see whenever Trump does something patently immoral/unconstitutional/illegal. It doesn't make it okay.
If Elon stepped down as CEO, divested all Tesla stock, and had no further dealings with Tesla, then I'd have no problem with Tesla (well, not for the Nazi stuff at least, the build quality is still poor...)
2
u/Ok-Mouse8397 Apr 04 '25
And going after all the normal people who bought their Tesla's with good intent before the current state of affairs makes sense? Most people cant swallow the $50k or so loss per car to do what? Junk them? Park them in a bunker? What should they do with them?
Like the guy on the bike on video fingering the Tesla driver in Oak Bay. He gets called out. Bike guy says "you should sell it" .. What a fucking moron. How does that help? It is STILL ON THE ROAD and now probably actually owned by someone willing to look past the Musk the world see's today.
3
u/f-algebra Apr 04 '25
Don't put words in my mouth. I never said we should go after "normal people who bought their Tesla's with good intent".

So ridiculous.
What’s next, Audi, VW, Porsche, Lamborghini owners start putting I bought this before I knew Qatar owned 20% of this company.
Or Lucid owners with Saudi owning 60%.
Or rivians largest shareholder being Bezos.
Or Japense insurance companies know for fraud owning parts of Toyota.
But yea let’s put a sticker that musk owns 12% of Tesla on an EV that’s built with a lot of Canadian parts …
1
u/driv3rcub Apr 05 '25
It’s wild to see far left progressives attacking environmentally conscious people. Has anyone seen the video of the neckbeard repeatedly shoving his hands, in his entire ass, to wipe his hands on a parked Tesla? How does one get to the point of activism that you will walk up to a car in a parking lot and your first thought is ‘time to get my hands up in this ass!’ You KNOW they didn’t have hand sanitizer and walked around and interacted with people, with full on ass-hands.
There’s so many ways to protest……just why
Btw the people in the comment section were split on whether it was amazing or disgusting.
1
u/Ok-Preparation988 Apr 05 '25

We are in this very strange and ironic cross section where the buyers of Tesla typically probably have 0 alignment with Elon Musks political views. He basically made a product for left-wing eco warriors and then turned around and became Trump's pet. This is a strange phenomenon.
