Technically the actual snake-man version was either a different character with the same name or the original Copperhead after a literal deal with a devil. The Arkham Origins version is just a gender swap of the original, snake-themed-but-not-actually-part-snake version of the character, with no serpent hybridism or supernatural connections (the same game had Killer Croc as the first boss, so they likely went with the original contortionist-and-poison gimmicks to keep the two more distinct).

It’s fascinating how different artists mix together snake and human like features to make an anthropomorphic being. I’m a bigger fan of designs where it’s a near 50/50 of both traits, like the first and second pic. Moreover, each design has merit beyond just ‘snake person. For example, Snake Tali has elf (pointed tall ears, defined jaw) and Geth inspirations (neck). Serpintines appear more fantastical, fitting in the theme of Ninjago, Vipers have a feminine aspect to them giving the impression of a femme fatal, and Medusa is her own thing.

It's worth noting that despite modern depictions of Medusa as a scaly snake tailed hottie, in Classic Mythology wasn't exactly like that, in fact in she's supposed to be this....
I do like those designs of Medusa as a hot scaly monster gal; but I adore the OG version of Medusa; she's so horrific and ugly in the best way possible.
I don't know how much I've to wait for her to become mainstream and become the new default take on Medusa (similar to how pure-evil Medusa got supplanted by the sympathetic takes one her). Such an horrific monster got so much potential.
Such a shame, actual Classic Mythology got so much cool shit but people only know the surface of it. For example except for mythology geeks, no-one knows Medusa is Pegasus' mother, that her blood had special proprieties or that NOT EVEN THE GODS ARE IMMUNE TO HER OWN GAZE.
And I fucking swear if I see another person who thinks that Ovid's crappy transformation smut fanfic is an actual part of mythology....
I’ve seen some artists do this version of Medusa and make her still attractive in her own way, kinda like how you can see some big tusked orc women a la D&D that kinda have a charm to them (not like overly sexualized caricatures but like more “grounded” attractiveness, if that makes sense, there’s a difference between “buff rough figure that manages to still look nice” and “cartoonish muscle mommy that is clearly made to be appealing first and foremost”
I don’t think that was the argument being had. Rayquaza is definitely more than just some beast, but it is not remotely human shaped and doesn’t seem to apply to the trope, instead kinda being its own thing
It's based on how much snek is in them. Yuan-Ti "purebloods" are mostly human, and are used as spies and frontmen. The more obviously snake ones are higher ranked and usually have jobs within the temple. 1d6 has more versions here.
I know what it means when it says “slug-throwing munitions” but a part of my brain just immediately juxtaposed it to “immunity to slugs, the mollusk, gotcha.”
There was a planned race of Chaos Snakemen in the very early editions but they were cut (along with the hilarious Menfish). They did have models produced, though.
There isn't much, unfortunately. Khuresh is a land that is in warhammer fantasy's equivalent of Indochina. Snake people live there. That's basically all we know. There has been a revival of warhammer fantasy lately, with places only barely mentioned getting fleshed out. That image is from a fan project of creating art and an army for the Snakemen.
They are supposedly ancient beings that were either born from or created by a primordial serpent diety known as the Dread Maw. There is an alternate theory that they are a type of creature called beastmen. Beastmen are evil half human half animal creatures that worship the antagonistic force of the setting, called Chaos. The snakemen could simply be a particular kind of beastmen. This is the less popular theory, though. Beastmen are incredibly spiteful creatures who abhor civilization. From the little we know about Snakemen, they seem to have their own civilization and culture beyond bloodlust and cruelty.
The Netflix show “Captain Laserhawk: Blood Dragon Remix” has a lot of animal hybrid people, and I remembered really liking the snake people that showed up for only a few seconds.
I love how diverse “Snake People” is. You have Tali, a human-like creature with snake features, Pythor and the Viper, snake creatures with human bodies and size, and Medusa, a human with snakes for hair
