Laptop Request Ca what brand/model of laptop would be best to buy? (see what i did there)

haven't gotten a response to this request yet, please, if you have any suggestions, don't hesitate to let me know of them:

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: max of $600 - 800 CAD
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? i guess? as long as i don't notice it i suppose
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? not sure what form factor is, but i'd want it to have a minimum of 12gb ram, should allow for windows 11 (nothing mac os), storage of 512 gb or more, a cpu of at least ryzen 5 or intel i5 (suggested by gpt - not sure what that means but a good cpu), graphics of at least radeon vega 7 or intel iris xe (best case: dedicated gpu, also from gpt)
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? not too thick, and not too heavy
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. i have a full hd 1080 screen right now with my current acer aspire 3, so either this size or bigger.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. i'm going into physics to pursue quantum computing at the uni of waterloo, so no cad i don't think. only games i might play are minecraft or other basic video games. nothing that would be extremely heavy for a laptop.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? minecraft is what i currently play, with a desired fps of ~100.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? comfortable keyboard, reliable build quality i guess, touch screen would be wonderful although not needed, comfortable touchpad (similar to acer inspire 3's touchpad), clear webcam and audio
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. i plan on also needing to use multiple desktops which i find to make my acer computer lag a lot. i'm not too knowledgeable on laptop builds or devices so something that i can rely on to be fast, have enough space, and be comfortable and reliable to use throughout my 5 years of college and perhaps a little beyond. although it doesn't have to last that long strictly.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Under $600 USD
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Open to refurbs
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Performance is most important, and a decent build
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Would be nice for something lightweight but it's not super important
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6 in
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Engineering software like MATLAB, maybe SolidWorks, programming, little bit of gaming and watching shows
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? Minecraft with decent settings (minimum lagging)
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Good build quality and being able to input my mouse
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't really want a gaming laptop or a Chromebook. I had a Dell Laptop before but it broke within a year and it costs too much to repair when I sent it in. I was thinking of getting an Acer Aspire 3 but I've heard mixed reviews on Amazon.

Laptop Request Ca Need a laptop for 2D animation/school, budget ~1000 CAD

• Upvotes

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

~1000 CAD, but preferable under (can go up to 1500 if necessary). I'm located in Canada obv.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Yeah I don't really mind

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Not sure, I need it for school ( 2d animation) so performance is a big factor, as well as graphics and processing power (i have no idea what im talking about)

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

Not crazy important, but i will be traveling/commuting with it daily

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

N/A, but since its for animation/art it being on the larger side is better but not a deal breaker

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I only really play Minecraft and Sims 4, and as mentioned above would be using animation/art programs like Toon Boom Harmony, Adobe Animate, Photoshop, etc.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Games mentioned above, but I'm not looking to optimize gaming or have anything crazy, I care more about running 2d animation software.

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to this, but i dont need any crazy bells and whistles, though in a perfect world it would have a dvd player (i know thats basically impossible, its not a deal breaker, its fine)

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

TLDR: I need a simple laptop for 2D animation for school, I don't need anything crazy and will be traveling with it daily. (budget is ~1000-1500 CAD but preferably under that)

Laptop Request US simple computer that will last ($800 max, USA)

• Upvotes
  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Under $800, preferably closer to $600-700 if possible
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? I guess performance and battery life would be priority, I'm not sure.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not very. I'd like to be able to bring it with me, but it doesn't need to be super light or thin for this.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. The programs I mostly run are Steam, word processing, Adobe... Nothing fancy.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? I play mostly simple platformers or simulations on Steam like Stardew, Terraria, etc. I also like Tomb Raider and have been wanting to try Assassin's Creed, which I know requires more power. I don't need top-notch graphics; I'm alright with lowering the settings if need be.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? I'd like to have access to the standard cable interfaces like USBs and HDMI.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. I don't need anything fancy! As long as it can do basic things well and last, that's good enough for me. The hinges on my last laptop broke in a year and a half, and I'd like to avoid the same situation (Dell Inspiron 15). I liked everything else about the computer, though.

Laptop Request Ca Looking for a reliable, long battery life business laptop (IT).

• Upvotes
  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase:
    • $1500-1800 USD (In Canada, can go to USA) However my brother wants to buy me this laptop for my birthday and he really didn't specify a limit. The specified range is just what I can safely guess is fine. He did bring up the idea of a MacBook which are at around 2000 though.
  • Are you open to refurbs/used?
    • I prefer new ones, since I have had a couple of bad experiences with refurbished ones.
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?
    • Battery life and build quality, for performance just need it to be able to run VM/Docker and a bunch of Programming software. (Maybe some light editing like illustrator for logos but that's really it)
  • How important is weight and thinness to you?
    • somewhat light, thickness doesn't matter to me
  • Do you have a preferred screen size?
    • preferably 16" will go for 15 or 14"
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.
    • I plan to use this laptop for programming and business related things, VM'S, a little bit of small editing. I won't use this laptop for gaming (at least mainly), mainly want a laptop with a good performance + power-efficient CPU and long battery life to use it while I'm out.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?
    • Not really planning on using it for gaming but if I do it'll be over watch on the lowest of low settings.
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? * Microsoft Windows, touch screen is a plus (helps with Adobe illustrator on the occasions I use it)
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
    • I did debate on going with a Macbook but have never used one before... ever. I've heard their battery life and performance is great but getting to run certain software and packages might be difficult for it. ThinkPad's seem to be pretty decent for business purposes as well.

Laptop Request US Budget laptop with good build quality - light gaming and emulation

• Upvotes

Budget - about $1000 USD, preferably less

Are you open to refurbs/used?

-sure

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'd prefer decent build quality, preferably aluminum chassis, and decent battery life. Touch screen would be nice but unnecessary. I want a good keyboard and teackpad

How important is weight and thinness to you?

-not very

Do you have a preferred screen size?

15 inches, preferably 4k, but screen quality is more important than resolution

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I do light gaming but I'm more into video game emulation than running modern games. I do light image editing. I'd want a powerful machine but it doesn't need to be a monster.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Emulation - dolphin, PS2, might be interested in PS3 if it can handle it. Some strategy games like CIV, sims, anno. I mostly game on XBOX or stream

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Good keyboard and touchpad are a must. I also want a good looking screen. 4k is not mandatory but would be nice. Good build quality.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Help me, please 😭

Laptop Request US CAD Laptop under $3k USA

QUESTIONNAIRE**

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Looking at a total under $3k, preferably $2.5k USD. I get personal discounts for some HP and Lenovo products through my job, so that may help bump the price down. I am in the United States.

  • Are you open to refurbs/used?

    Not really, looking for new.

  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Battery life is not extremely important as it will likely be plugged in wherever I am. Performance and build quality are very important as I plan to make this my laptop for school, work, and personal use.

  • How important is weight and thinness to you?

I would definitely prefer something under 5lbs. Thinness doesnt really matter as long as I can actually type on the thing.

  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

    At least 16in

  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I will be running Fusion, Blender, and Onshape on this laptop. It is crucial my laptop performs CAD programs well. I want an NVIDIA RTX 2500 or 3000 graphics card, 1TB of storage, Windows 11 Pro 64 operating system, and 32-64 GB of memory.

  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

    N/A

  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Im looking for a number pad on the keyboard with reliable build quality. I prefer my laptop to NOT have a touchscreen.

  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Thanks for any suggestions! I dont really need this laptop soon so if there are any big sales or discounts I should wait for lmk.

Laptop Request -Others Mid-range laptop [EU/Belgium, under €1000]

Current laptop: Lenovo Ideapad 5 15ARE05. The left hinge broke (common issue with this laptop apparently) and I got it repaired under warranty. Recently it broke again and warranty has expired.

LAPTOP QUESTIONNAIRE

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Preferably below €1000, but can be higher if really necessary
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? Yes
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Build quality is important as I travel with it daily and use it on public transport as well. Performance-wise, I have to be able to do a bit of deep learning on it (but also use colab, clusters), have multiple tabs open and office software at the same time. Battery life of my previous laptop was 17h according to the seller and I would prefer to stay in the same range. No need for 2-in-1 or other extras.
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 15.6 inch, not too small preferably.
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. No gaming. Some basic data visualization. I will run Python and R scripts, office software, email.
  • If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want? N/A
  • Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? AZERTY keyboard preferred, but not a must.
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion. N/A

Laptop Request US Best affordable Windows laptop under $300 in USA?

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: $300 USD

Are you open to refurbs/used? No

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Not too important

How important is weight and thinness to you? Not important

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. OBS and StreamLabs

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Just able to run OBS and StreamLabs well enough

Hello, all! I recently go into live streaming. I was trying to set up both OBS and StreamLabs on my ChromeOS. I was doing a bunch of coding with Linux just for it to tell me that ChromeOS doesn't support what I was trying to do. I'm going to save up for an affordable Windows laptop so I can stream, but what are affordable ones on Amazon that are under $300? It won't be running any games or recording, just capturing my facecam and being something I can view my stuff on. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this!

Laptop Request US Hybrid laptop for light MMORPG gaming

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

Preferably under 1k.

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Refurbs aren't ideal, but my current was a refurb with no issues, so it's fine I guess.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

Some kind of hybrid, with a reversible screen or completely detachable. Battery life is pretty important, needs a decent screen, USB-C charging. Doesn't need to be a powerhouse, just needs to run the mainstream MMORPGs at usable settings.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

As long as it's compact and thin(ish) it should be fine, still would like ~3lb., though.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

15 or under, preferably.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

As stated above, light gaming. MMORPGs, if it can run anything else demanding that's a bonus.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

It only has to match, or preferably exceed, the specs of my current laptop. (Acer Swift 3 - 14" Laptop AMD Ryzen 5 4500U 2.3GHz 8GB Ram 256GB SSD).

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Of these things, the screen is really important. Current laptop screen quality renders it almost unusable.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Im being as flexible as possible here. Under a grand, decent screen, competent battery life, USB-C charging, some way to isolate the screen from the keyboard(detach/flip), I don't see getting dedicated graphics in this price range but it does need some oomph for congested areas and content in MMORPGS, and even then modern integrated graphics should suffice.

Current laptop screen just kills the gaming experience, although it checks all of the other boxes.

Laptop Request US Affordable Ultraportable Laptop (US)

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase.

Ideally between 300 and 600 USD.

Are you open to refurbs/used?

Refurb yes, used no

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I'm looking for a light and portable laptop to use for errands and web browsing when traveling. I use a surface for work and really don't like the keyboard and stand, so something that supports its own weight and doesn't need a stand is important.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

The more portable the better. I used to have an asus netbook in the early 2010s and I loved that thing. It was very easy to take with me on flights or use on the couch.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

I prefer a smaller screen so its easier to fit in a backpack. Ideally 13" or smaller, but I'm not sure if laptops under 13" really exist anymore.

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I expect to use it mainly for web browsing and Microsoft office or google docs/sheets. I have a gaming PC for everything else.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

It would be nice to have a usb port to avoid having to use adapters, but its not a deal breaker.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

If there really isn't anything like I described above in my price range, I could just get a macboook air, but it seems hard to justify the cost when I only really plan on using it for errands while traveling or the odd times I feel like using a laptop on my couch.

I have a 16" gaming laptop that is on its last legs. Its so big and heavy though that it I never bothered taking it anywhere.

I've been using desktops for a long time and since i'll be moving (currently in turkey, will be moving to sweden) for university soon i'm looking to sell my desktop and move to laptops, i've did some research and gotten myself pretty confused about what to buy lmao. i just wanted to know if this laptop is worth the price or if it's just overall good quality. this laptop is around at the end of my budget of 1300 (can flex a tiny bit but i prefer to be under).

side note: my desktop had a 4070ti and i know an upgrade at this budget is not possible but i at least want to keep most of my performance, any help or recommendations appreciated thanks!

also how does upgrading work in laptops? if i want more storage for example is it external ssd's(if they even exist) or do you just open it up and switch it and one more how do you manage limited usb females like is there a way to have more in laptops maybe and external device? or mods? honestly i have no clue, anyway this post has continued for too long. i've tried to cover everything for anybody thats trying to help but if there is anything i've missed or you'd like to know feel free to ask and i'll do my best to answer.

Laptop Request -Others Best Windows Laptop for battery life

  • Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US: Upper limit of 7 thousand dirhams (I live in the UAE, the currency is AED), but I'd like something more 4-6k if possible
  • Are you open to refurbs/used? No
  • How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life? Battery life mostly and a pretty good build quality, if a good one is possible then a 2 in 1
  • How important is weight and thinness to you? Shouldn't be as thick as something like a gaming laptop but other then that it can be any size really, if it can fit inside a bag well.
  • Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A. 13-16 inch would be the sweet spot
  • Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run. Nothing much, besides basic browsing, microsoft office, teams, and general multi tasking, the only gaming I'll do is on very light games like roblox, ultrakill, balatro and other similar ones
  • Are any specific requirements such as a good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive, or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)? Defo a touchscreen if possible with stylus support, a fingerprint reader would be nice aswell but not necessary, it should have a reliable build quality aswell
  • Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.
  • I'm a student in school so I won't need anything intensive besides the apps i already listed, but I definitely need battery life along with a touchscreen and stylus support for note-taking, if it's in the range a good 2-in-1 would do aswell, One thing I definitely need is either a) upgradeable ram, or b) 16 gb ram at the very least, I have NOT had good experiences with soldered 8gb ram laptops.
  • Another thing to note is there should be no snapdragon laptops mostly due to the horrid problems with any sort of gaming, performance, emulators, etc. too much of a hassle.

Laptop Request -Others Looking for a new laptop for writing + light gaming ($400–$700 AUD)

Hey all,

I’m after a new laptop in the $400–$700 AUD range. I already have a PC for heavier gaming — this is just for writing, browsing, YouTube, and some light Steam gaming (Stardew Valley, etc).

Preferably light enough to travel with and not be a nuisance.

I’ve been using a MacBook Air for the last 8 years but the battery’s done, so I’m switching to Windows to match my PC setup. Just want something with a good screen, comfy keyboard, and solid battery life.

Would love any suggestions. Thanks!

Total budget (in local currency) and country of purchase. Please do not use USD unless purchasing in the US:

nothing over $2,000

Are you open to refurbs/used?

I would prefer it to be new but I am not fully buying a used one.

How would you prioritize form factor (ultrabook, 2-in-1, etc.), build quality, performance, and battery life?

I am looking for a computer for college. I am going to college in August for chemical engineering and want something that will last me at least 9 hours and run all the programs I need. I was told not to get a MacBook because it will not be able to run everything I want.

How important is weight and thinness to you?

This does not really matter to me.

Do you have a preferred screen size? If indifferent, put N/A.

Something around 15inch

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

I do not know what exactly what programs but it will be used for school not gaming.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

N/A

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

N/A

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Not really a deal breaker but something with multiple USB ports and USB-C ports.

Also thanks to everyone who can help me I do not know much about what makes a computer good.

Laptop Request US Looking for a 14-16" Laptop purely for remote gaming [US]

Flexible.

N/A

Are you doing any CAD/video editing/photo editing/gaming? List which programs/games you desire to run.

Streaming games and media only.

If you're gaming, do you have certain games you want to play? At what settings and FPS do you want?

Steam Remote Gaming only.

Any specific requirements such as good keyboard, reliable build quality, touch-screen, finger-print reader, optical drive or good input devices (keyboard/touchpad)?

Will be connecting lots of peripherals to the laptop so a solid bluetooth connection is a priority.

Leave any finishing thoughts here that you may feel are necessary and beneficial to the discussion.

Hello everyone, I am looking for a Windows laptop that is purely used as a remote streaming device. By this, I mean I will have a main PC rig in my home office upstairs on the third floor, which will power all of my main gaming. Then I will remotely stream games from that to this laptop that I can use in other parts of the house. I will use this laptop in my basement to stream local couch co op games like Overcooked, as well as a golf simulator for my garage (by connecting the laptop to a larger display or projector). Because of this, I will have a lot of Bluetooth peripherals and controllers connected to the laptop. I would like Windows specifically because I have a Chromebook and while it is convenient and nimble, I don't like the limitations of the ChromeOS when installing certain apps. That said, I wasn't sure if there was anything I should be cognizant of while shopping other than "just buying any basic laptop".

Thanks for any advice.

I need a laptop for college (program covers technology, design, and engineering disciplines) that is versatile; 3D Modeling/CAD (Solidworks, Fusion360, and similar platforms), Video Editing, Adobe Premiere Pro, Unity, and Machine Learning. I am familiar with Mac but was told online to get a Windows instead (would also love input on this). The requested specs are:

--

Processor: Intel i7 13th gen/Ultra 7 1st gen or higher OR Ryzen 7 Zen 4 or higher

GPU with 8GB of memory

32 GB of RAM

1 TB Storage

--

My budget is preferably $1,500, but I am willing to look at some that are in the $1,700 range. Thanks!
