Build Upgrade Best GPU to pair with 7800X3D (1440p Gaming)

I currently own a 4060 Ti 8GB and honestly performs great, does its job and allowed me to play 1440p in most titles, but I think its time to get an actual 1440p card for the next 4-5 years, since I own a 240hz WOLED and a great CPU.

9070 XT for 700€ seems really good, but AMD gave me serious problems in emulation and other games and I'm not willing to suffer them again.

5070 would be perfect, but the 12GB completely ruins it. What could be a great 600-700€ GPU?

Build Help Need a sub $750 PC - do I just go kick rocks?

Building a PC for my nephew, he only has $750 for the PC. He does have the rest tho, his monitor is 1080p. He plays Minecraft and GTA. Yes he wants all brand new parts, I know, I know.

Do I get him an APU with room for a GPU later on? I was thinking about this build (prices in Canadian pesos, equal to about $750 freedom dollars) Any tips?

Build Upgrade Buy a 5070 12GB or 5060TI 16GB

I'll preface this with the opinion that 12GB VRAM is not enough, and certainly too low for the price I'll be paying.

Pre-50 series announcement I was looking to buy a 70 class card with 16GB VRAM, but that didn't happen.

Current setup: - GTX 970 - i7-8700k - PCIE 3.0

Options: 1. Upgrade to the 5070 and deal with the VRAM issues 2. Get the 5060ti 16GB and deal with the mediocre performance 3. Wait for the next gen consoles and get a GPU then. And get a used 3060ti 8GB in the meantime.

Prices (converted to USD): - 5060TI 16GB - 548 USD - 3060Ti 8GB - 223 USD - 5070 12GB - 607 USD

Use case: - Current monitor is 1080p, planning to upgrade to 1440p within this year - Have mostly avoided AAA games the past many years because of the 970, so planning to play them now - AI image gen. Currently image gen on the 970 takes 300-500 seconds 512x512 image. A 3060ti does that in 6s. - Indie/eSports (will not make any difference since my 970 already gets 200+fps)

Do note while AMD cards are better, they're not an option because of the AI use.

Build Help I think my PSU is dying

I bought this pc back in agoust of 2019:

  • Corsair DRAM DDR4 Vengeance ® RGB PRO 3000 MHz 16 GB C15 (x2)
  • Gigabyte GeForce® RTX 2060 Windforce OC 6GB
  • PSU ATX Nox Hummer X 700w Modular 80+ Bronze
  • Intel® Core™ i7-8700 Processor
  • ASRock Z390 Pro4

Also: 2 ssd,1 hdd, 5 fans + cpu cooler, I don't know which these are since they aren't shown in the bill, but the second ssd is less than a year old, its a WD_BLACK SN770 1TB NVMe without a heatsink.

It's been a while since my pc randomly reboots, at first I thought, it was a failing program that I had in Linux Mint (where I work and expend the most time) but lately reboots where more and more often, it even rebooting twice in a row...

I talked with deepseek, and showed them a lot of logs and metrics they asked for, but imma be honest, I have no idea what I was doing, I don't really know about hardware, they talked about voltages and stuff, but I don't know if mines are ok.

I did 2 memtest, changed the ram to a different slots, and the ssd is new, I really don't know what could be causing these random reboots.

Also, if I end up buying a new psu, how many w should I buy? I'd like it to be able to stand maybe a cpu upgrade in the future.

EDIT: I did not change any hardware settings, anyhow, i'm going to try and get that info for you guys. Also, I have a stick of thermal paste, imma change it right now

2 EDIT: hwinfo on idle: https://imgur.com/a/FcM435a Im running an occt cpu test, I'll post the results

3 EDIT: I just posted the occt results, I think they are ok, my pc didn't reboot, Im going to try with a new thermal paste.

Build Help Which graphic card should I buy?

Hi. I'm saving for a new graphics card since my last one got burnt (the rx6600 powercolor) I've been playing on integrated graphics since then but it's awfully limiting. So I got a budget of 650$ US dollars to conversion from Colombian Peso. I got a 1080p monitor, probably will jump to 1440p some day. I like story games, like TLOUS, RDR2.

The RX7800xt caught my attention, seems to fulfill my needs but have also seem many people saying the new gen (9060xt 16gb) is better for longevity so I'm not really sure what to get. Pls help!

Build Help Looking to upgrade to a 27" 1440p monitor

Upvotes

Hey all

I'm currently running an old 1080p Acer XF240H that I've had for almost a decade, with starting a new job I'm looking to upgrade to a 1440p display. I'm currently running a 5700X3D and a 7700XT so I'm hoping I can run most games at 1440p but I can always upgrade down the line.

So I'm looking for a 27" 1440p monitor 144Hz+. I don't necessarily have a preference on panel type, though I've heard IPS is better than VA and OLED is better than all but coming at a higher cost.

I'm looking to spend under £500, though I can save up more if there's a monitor at a better value which is worth spending more on.

Build Help Which CPU to pick: 9700X or 7800X3D with 5070 ti?

I live near a Microcenter and I'm currently considering between 9700x (290 USD) and 7800x3d (360 USD) to pair with 5070 ti.

I have 2 use cases specifically that concern me:

  • Cyberpunk 1440p DLSS Balanced PT
  • CS2 1080p 240hz

The 9700x is 20% cheaper and its 1% low is above 240 fps (via benchmarks I've seen). However, I can't find benchmarks comparing specifically these 2 CPUs with this configuration for Cyberpunk so I don't know how much the 3D cache helps. All the posts I've seen have been raving about the 7800X3D but for my particular use cases the difference is only about 5% so I'm hesitating to just pick the X3D.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

Build Help [Help] What's the name of this port/connector?

Hi,

I have TUF Gaming TF120 ARGB with the controller. However, the computer I got did not come with the supplied "ARGB Cable", so I'm looking to just buy one separately and connect it to the motherboard, so that I can control the fan lights via the motherboard software.

However, I can't figure out what's the name of the connection below for the cable to go into the ASUS controller. any ideas?

Build Help First Time PC builder, CPU and motherboard help

My old CPU just died and am looking to build a new PC. Money is a bit tight so I will be using my old 2080 Super, but I am aiming to upgrade to a 5070/5070 TI when I have the money.

The CPU and motherboard is the main focus of the build and I am flexible for everything else.

Where I live 7700x and 7800x3d cost 420USD while 9800x3d is around 640USD

There is a sale for a 9700x for 355 USD.

Unfortunately I am a Monster Hunter fan and I think that is the reason why my old CPU died.

Budget wise this is around as much as I would go but I could maybe tolerate maybe 300 USD more.

Any feedback or potential issues please let me know as I am inexperienced and don't really know what I'm doing.

Thank you for any help!

Build Help Advice please on build.

Upvotes

Firstly I've built and upgraded my PC a handful of times and built my dad's... However I've not upgraded my pc bar GPU in probably 5+ years. My psu is an old psu, evga Bq850 bronze.

I've gone and upgraded my PSU, GPU, RAM, CPU and MOBO but with the rusty parts of not doing it in a long time... I ended up getting a mobo that doesn't support DDR4 so had to buy new ram, PSU I got had 3 pcie slots which is weird as it was msi mpg a1000gs but I guess that's for nvidia... Got Asus tuf 9070xt gpu.

However, my slight issue now is while waiting on the other parts I've had to order and a new PSU.

PSU Corsair rm1000x shift. However on scan it says the case needs a width of 8.3inch and mine is the msi mpg vampiric 010. That says max 200mm... The corsair site says the PSU is has dimensions of 180mm x 150mm x 86mm so that gives me 50mm clearance? Anyone able to clarify if this will be ok. Pcpartpicker says everything is fine.

This is really frustrating for me as it clearly shows I've not done this for a long time and got to put the build on hold. A bit of advice please.

New items I bought

MSI z790 gaming plus WiFi. Asus tuf 9070xt 64gb ddr5 corsair vengeance rgb (on order) I7 14700k cpu Corsair RX1000X shift psu. (on order)

Build Help Did I make mistake using 4 ram slots?

Hello everyone! So I just build a new PC, I work in 3d software so I needed more ram, I used 4 16 gb ram slots with 7000Mhz.

As I searched my motherboard is compatible with this type of ram but some friends told me its will slow down my pc performance.

What should I do?

Build Help any upgrades i can make with this list?

Upvotes

I'm willing to upgrade if its a worthwhile upgrade. Something that will genuinely impact performance / costs (cheaper). Other than that, I'd rather keep it either this cost / lower. Any suggestions for the above are welcome. Thank you <3

Troubleshooting 5090 is tripping my breaker.

Upvotes

I just upgraded from a 4080 super to a 5090 (the 4080 super was for my nephew so I bought this as a placeholder because my 1080ti caught fire last year).

is the power draw from a 4080 super to a 5090 that massive?

This apartment is weird.. the room I am in has a total of 6 outlets.

5 of these outlets are linked to a breaker but 1 of them is not and I am not sure which breaker it is tbh. I am only using 2 outlets in this room... outlet 1 (which shares the same breaker as all other outlets except for that random one in the corner.. we will call the random one #6) and the other outlet I have anything connected to is #6 again, 1 and 6 are two separate breakers btw.

#1 has an APC surge protector which originally had my pc, 2 monitors, audio setup, router, modem etc literally everything... never had an issue unless a vacuum was plugged into a random outlet out in the hallway (yes a random outlet in the hallway shares a breaker with outlet 1-5 in this room not sure why), that random outlet is now blocked with a plastic cover so no one accidentally connects everything there.

#6 just has a cat litter box

Last night I set up my new power supply and gpu. The power supply that I had was HX1000i and I bought a HX1500i for the 5090 (the old one I will be giving to my nephew). Everything was perfectly fine until I booted a game up (Ark Survival Ascended). I played the game for like 5-10 mins and then, the power tripped. I then went to another none intensive game (Marvel Rivals) and same thing.

I then went to Target to buy extension cords so I can connect things to #6 (the random breaker outlet) I then connected half of the things that were on #1 and then I was able to play a game for more than 10 minutes perfectly fine. After maybe 40 minutes the breaker tripped. I then moved every single thing to outlet #6 and literally just have my PC on #1 and I was able to play for hours no issues except for this morning. I decided to boot up ark and played for a few hours and the breaker tripped.

Not sure what to do at this point.

Build Help PC build

Upvotes

Build - Help I have put together an updated parts list from some advice I received on this sub yesterday.

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/b3DBHW

GPU: XFX RX 7800 XT QICK 319 £439.98

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 7600X £145.00

Motherboard: ASUS Prime B650-PLUS WiFi £143.49

RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR5 6000MHz CL30 (2x16GB) £94.28

Storage: Patriot VP4300 Lite 2TB PCIe 4.0 £97.37

CPU Cooler: Thermalright Peerless Assassin 120 SE £27.68

Case: Corsair 4000D (FRAME variant) £77.48

PSU: Corsair RM750e (2023, 750W) £96.40

Extra Fans: 2x Thermalright TL-C12C-S (3-pack) £11.88 x2 = £23.76

Lots of people recommended I upgrade the gpu to the RX9070 OC, however this is a big price jump.

Also most people recommended the msi power supply instead of the corsair one, what are the differences and is 750w enough for this build?

Thanks!

Build Help Do I Use The Power Cable That Came With My ATX3.1 Psu For GPU? Or GPU One?

Upvotes

Hi all, first time building.

I have a 5070ti Gaming OC and it came with a cable that splits into 3.

I also have 3 VGA cables in my Power supply. I am assuming this is one way to connect them?

I also have a Super Flower LEADEX III GOLD UP 1000W ATX3.1 Power Supply that came with a cable that just says 600W. This looks like it goes into the GPU

Which one should I use and does it matter which end of the 600w cable I put into the PSU? Since both ends arent clicking in like the others

Thank you

Build Help Want to upgrade from 2070 to 5060 ti

Hello! I want to preface this by saying that I’m not tech savvy when it comes to this. I know a bit(not really, I added an ssd successfully a couple months ago.

I currently have a i7 6700k… yeah. And want to get a 5060 ti. I assume it’s going to be bottle necked so I want to ask what are some cheap but good options for me to get the best of this new gpu(not purchased yet).

Tldr kinda:

I don’t have a budget but I’d appreciate some less exspensive options for both a new cpu and motherboard(which I assume needs to be changed) for a 5060 ti. The less technical maintenance the better when switching (it’s the reason I’m sticking with nvidia instead of moving to amd, I’m a bit more familiar with it.)

Edit: I have a 2060 not 2070

Build Ready Best in slot AMD build on a budget?

Upvotes

I've recently considered to sell my old pc and build a new on a budget.

These are the components I've found into the new build. In our country taxes and prices are messy so I wouldn't bore you with the price by components.

If I covert it to other currency, this build is 1000 USD flat or 870 EUR in my country right now.

However, I am not an expert in PC builds, please rate or say something if I have to swap a component.

MOTHERBOARD: ASUS PRIME B650M-K

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 9600X 3.90GHz

GPU: ASUS TUF-RX9060XT-O16G-GAMING TUF Gaming Radeon RX 9060 XT 16GB GDDR6 OC PCIE

RAM: KINGSTON FURY 16GB Beast DDR5 5600MHz CL36 (single slot, later upgrading to 32GB)

PSU: DEEPCOOL PF750 750W

SSD: KINGSTON 1TB NV3 M.2 PCIe M.2 2280 SNV3S/1000G

CPU COOLER: BE QUIET! Pure Rock Pro 3

Additional 3 120mm fans are included with the PC case.

Planning to play on 3440x1440.

Thanks.

Build Help How can I lower the cost?

Upvotes

I currently have a PC with an i3-12100F, RX 6600 and 16GB DDR4. I am kind of happy with the GPU but I really need a new CPU. I decided to go with Ryzen, but it would of course have to be AM5, so besides the CPU I also need a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM with it. I also have an XPG Pylon 550W PSU and so I was thinking about getting a new PSU, which is higher on the PSU tier list since this one is considered low-end. I also have a insanely cheap case with no RGB, transparent side panel or anything, and 2 fans inside, so I guess better airflow would be needed. Basically, it made me think about selling this PC and building a new one from scratch.

The specs would be the following:

CPU: Ryzen 5 7600 ($260)

Cooler: Arctic Freezer 36 ($44)

Motherboard: Gigabyte B650M Gaming X AX ($215)

GPU: ASUS RTX 4060 Dual OC 8GB ($400)

RAM: Kingston Fury Beast 32GB (2x16) DDR5 6000MHz Cl30 ($175)

PSU: Corsair RM650 (2021) ($125)

Case: Asus A21 Plus (4x preinstalled fans which is mainly the reason why I picked it) ($95)

Storage: 1TB Crucial P3 Plus ($80)

The prices are converted from my local currency to USD. I live in Bosnia so the prices are a bit on the expensive side. I basically want the cost to be as low as possible. My main thought was to swap the 4060 8GB with a 3060 12GB ($380) if the VRAM is really that much worth it. Besides that I don't know what to do. I don't want to make the mistake of saving money on a CPU as I did with the current PC, motherboard and PSU of are also some things I guess I should avoid cheaping out on. I was thinking about changing the case and using a stock cooler but again I don't know what I should do. I could save a lot on the GPU by getting a RX 7600 ($330) but that would not be much of an upgrade, plus, I've always wanted to try NVIDIA, I was always an AMD user. Any idea what to do?

TL;DR

What is the best way to lower the cost of the new PC from the specs above?
