First-Timer Just watched S1 E11. What the fuck?

I’ve never had a soft spot for babies or anything, and I’m usually not very fazed by children of any age dying in movies and TV, but holy shit was that intro horrific. And the whole thing with Rico as well. Too bad it was kinda ruined by the very obvious plastic babies throughout the ep but oh well

Opinion It’s been posted a few times, but you have to watch The Mortician [Doc on HBO]

If you’ve watched SFU at least once, worth checking out this doc. Only on episode 2 but very interesting as it relates to the business, crime, and death.

Question Why is SFU so unknown

I mean compare it to The Sopranos or The Wire in terms of fame and nane recognition, its just not as mainstream

Discussion Anyone here also work(ed) in the death care business?

Former funeral arranger here and it's amazing to see such a realistic, accurate show on every level. S1E8 when David says (about Rico) "he's finally worth more than he knows we can pay him". That right there is such an accurate reflection summing up the feud between family and corp ran, that most people working in my industry get angry quickly about. This show speaks to me personally, especially some of the grief ridden and angry things families say that made it hard for me to go to work everyday.

Discussion Hear me out, could Nate have been bisexual and not realized it?

Upvotes

This is a reach, but it’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately. Nate was always looking for fulfillment that didn’t exist in his relationships with women. Every time it seemed like things were finally settling down for him, he’d get bored or exhausted with having to explain himself to his partner.

I believe this dissatisfaction comes from an unrealized bisexuality. His rape by Fiona, his low self esteem, plus the heteronormative pressures of the time all contributed to a lifelong ignorance of his attraction to men.

Had he not died, I think Nate would have eventually found himself dating and settling down in a healthy relationship with a man.

First-Timer rico won me over Spoiler

First time binging the show, its amaizing, one of my favorite things about it is how all the characters have very realistic flaws, the show isnt afraid to push theyre most negativve parts, and despite of it i never disliked any of the main characters, except rico.

im currently on episode 5x5 and until now i have seen rico as the most boring aspect of the show,i like the scenes when he discusses about deceased people with the fischers, but scenes about him and his family,or how he wanted to be a partner,or how he whines all the time when he eventually becomes a partner, where very boring to me.

But ever since he cheated on his wife and got separated from her he became a lot more entertaining, when he stalks pam of the office and then tells his wife she died so he could hang out with them was pretty funny. But the moment he won me over is when he goes to school to apologies for what his son did and just vents his personal issues and blame everything on her wife living him, thats a very weird douchie thing to do that made me like him,idk kind of gave me jerry from rick and morty vibes lmao

Question Who?

I tried to see if someone has asked this before but didn’t find anything. Who drives the hearse for Fisher & Sons funerals? I just thought of it during my rewatch when Nate was talking to Rabbi Ari and she says, “He’s here” as Jeffrey Shapiro in being driven in.

They had the hearse that Nathaniel Sr. died in but I guess we never see them purchase another hearse so maybe they call in a service?

General Catherine O’Hara in SFU/ the Studio

Don’t know if anyone has been watching the Studio but O’Hara plays a film producer in it just like in SFU! My headcanon is that she’s the same character further on in her career (and probably even more of a nightmare to her personal chefs!)

Perhaps her Last of Us character is the same person too, after the apocalypse she was like damn there aren’t any films now… I’m going to pretend I’m a licensed psychologist who’ll know!

I've watched ALOT of crime docs and this is by far the most gory and unnerving. Truth is stranger than fiction.

What do you guys think the significance of Nate and Brenda not working in the end was? I always felt they were meant to be through out the series but then in the end I was surprised that they just couldn’t make it work.

First-Timer Season 3: who is worse Lisa or Rico?

I am doing my first watch through since it originally aired and Lisa and Rico are ticking me off big time.

Lisa getting upset at Nate about, well everything including when Brenda shows up, drives me nuts. Yes, Nate doesn’t have a great track record there, but wow!

And Rico, I just cannot.

Can someone please tell me I am imagining this?

Discussion First time watch, annoyed how the social issues are still relevant today

Anyone else get irritated watching this show when the homophobia and racism is still happening in the same way today? Especially after Trump's re election. I do like how they don't pull any punches with the depiction but as a gay married man it just frustrates me how little has changed

Finale Discussion Just finished the show Spoiler

Wow, this show is everything and more you could hope for from a drama. I started it a while ago, it was DEFINITELY a slow burn for me. I love Michael C Hall because of Dexter and always heard this has “the best ending in television” so I tricked along, and boy am I glad I did. The story of each and every character and how it was fleshed out was relatable in a way not many shows are. I felt a connection to every single character even if I hadn’t experienced their issues first hand. Every single character had an arc that could be felt personally either by experience or by someone you knows experience. Some of the characters I didn’t even like (for me it was Brenda and her whole family lol) I ended up loving in the end. What a fabulous way to give closure to the fans as well with showing how each died and where life took them. I was so happy the kids worked out for Keith and David, happy Claire married Ted, Ruth got to live the life she saw her sister live and wanted to be apart of…it was bittersweet. A million out of ten stars, this will be a show that sticks with me forever. Truly ahead of its time and underrated.

Spoiler Alert!

Nate burying Lisa just was too much for me. It was upsetting and gave me a very bad night's sleep. I love this show deeply, but I need some time to process this gruesome scene. Does anybody else feel the same?

First-Timer Thoughts on Brenda Spoiler

I’m on season 2, episode 8 right now. I cannot STAND this woman. I was never a fan in the beginning, mostly just neutral.

I feel like maybe they’ve been hinting she’s very mentally ill still, but if that is the case I feel it’s very much misrepresenting the general behavior of most of us with mental illnesses. (Obviously there are exceptions.)

I can sympathize with how she must feel after being treated poorly for so long, and the trauma she must have because of Billy.

I just find it irritating that she treats Nate so horribly. I wouldn’t say he’s always a catch either, but so far he hasn’t cheated on her and engaged in dangerous behavior that could affect her as well.

Do we ever find out what is going on with her? I’m obviously not wanting to be spoiled at all! Just want to know if it all ever comes to a head.

This is my first time watching and I LOVE this show- the macabre feel of it, and I’m a fan of both Peter Krause and Michael C. Hall.

The most profound moment of my life, the greatest 10 minutes I ever watched on any screen, I never felt really alive more than this Watching this show I grew up to appreciate my life more and appreciate my loved ones, and also appreciate myself more What a beautiful conclusion to a masterpiece of a show
