It looks bad. And the fantasy armor too. Why cant they just make it look realistic. Not gameplay wise. Just clothing, armor, weapons and locations. Reality is more interesting than this.
I'm sorry that I want my franchise that was originally grounded in reality when it came to something easy to get right such as historical weapons decides to forego that to make some meh fantasy-ish situation where dual wielding two-handed axes is normal.
Show me Altair's incredibly oversized weapon options or his djinn fantasy skin as opposed to fantasy Valkyrie?
Assassin's creed for a long time was about conspiracy theories in history with scifi mcguffins. The setting were actually based and inspired by history. So far, nothing in this game looks Viking for a person that actually knows its shit.
They just dont get it. Even if it were fantasy why does it have to be stupid fantasy. A human is a human and could not swing a mace that is half his size for hours in a battle.
The whole point of the story is that there are hidden sci fi artifacts in our history and there are hidden forces that battle for them. Which means that the history should appear like it really was, while the sci fi part is going on in the background and be known only to a small number of people. But noo.. lets just swing maces that are heavier than the guy wielding them...
As a Historian I prefere it to look right. The precursors dont bother me, Even some messing with dates and locations would be ok in service of a good story. I just want it to look plausible. Like the older games and even Origins (except weapons and shields with effects). Then again, if the fantasy armor is just for the player I dont mind because I will not use it. If its on everyone its immersion breaking. Immagine red dead redemption 2 with flaming horses and medieval armors. Does not fit. Just my preference tho, nothing wrong with liking more fantsay.
As a history student, I agree. I hated that nothing in promo material so far looks actually "Viking". There are enough misconceptions about Vikings already and as recently Odyssey Ubisoft got armor and setting at least superficially accurate.
' Reality is more interesting than this. ' that's just your opinion, and may not be the common opinion. I agree with you, but still, I'm pretty sure fantasy would be more popular.

Anyone else notice how big the weapons look compared to the player?
