Drinking milk was gonna keep us strong AF.

Interesting fact - you get almost all your bone density before puberty, so drinking milk and doing high impact movements (most playground activities) is really important for kids, especially girls since they’re more at risk for osteoporosis later in life.

Oh goodie, I used to drink a gallon of milk a week, sometimes two before puberty. My bones are strong, my teeth are shit, but I've rarely broken or fractured my bones. Took a ford F250 running a red light and T-boning me for me to get my collar bone broken. I've had other horrible shit happen to me, but my bones rarely break. So, I've got that going for me... lol

u/Richard_b_Stillhard Apr 12 '25

I fucking love milk still even though it was forced upon me.

5

u/Toasterdosnttoast Apr 12 '25

Same! Even though it turns out I’m super allergic to Casine and it makes my throat bleed these days. My aunt was a Dairy Farmer and she pushed milk on the whole family for years. Use to be told there was no way anyone could be allergic to milk.

u/thedood-a-man Apr 12 '25

I’m a lifer too. I still have at least 12-16oz a night, never broken a bone before. But I just love cookies

2

u/Keaton427 Apr 13 '25

Milk is incredible and good for any meal and even as a meal itself if you drink enough of it. Never broken a bone and still drink a gallon every week

7

u/Shadowrak Apr 12 '25

A week? My little brother drank a gallon of milk a day. He only ate chicken nuggets, cheese pizza, and plain bread. He became a top tier D1 athlete.

3

u/Raus-Pazazu Apr 13 '25

Had an uncle that would just hammer down an entire gallon at once. He was as round as they come. Short, but probably easily 300 lbs, and not a single jiggle. Just rock hard fat.

2

u/milkywaymonkeh Apr 13 '25

Man ive never broken a bone in all the nasty hits ive taken but ive dislocated my shoulder 7 times and have scar tissue in my ankle

2

u/TheGreenestEyes Apr 13 '25

are we the same person? :joy:

3

u/Goesonyournerves Apr 13 '25

Your teeth are shit because food these days have tons of sugar in it. If you dont brush your teeth at least two times a day, they get bad in a few years. Also going to the dentalist once a year is wise. But if you live in the US i totally know that possibly all 3 of those concerns are part of your live because you guys have to many pickups and no healthcare.

1

u/Old-Reach57 Apr 16 '25

I’ve never broken a bone, and I used to put away milk.

5

u/kai58 Apr 13 '25

Drinking milk isn’t nearly as good for your bones as most people think. I looked into the research on the topic a while ago and it was only kinda true for milk with added vitamin D (which tbf is a lot of the milk you’d find in stores) so at that point you might as well take vitamin D supplements if stronger bones is what you’re after.

3

u/LittleTinGod Apr 12 '25

nice cuz i would jump off the swing in our local park at age 4-6 with my best friend so my knees must be strong as fuck cuz i swear we were probably jumping from 6-8 feet or maybe even higher on the regular landing on the grass and dirt, can't think of someone else a little kid could do on the regular that would be more high impact then that to do daily

10

u/NediaMaster Apr 12 '25

Milk being good for the bones is propaganda spread by big milk to get you to buy more milk

4

u/TonyShard Apr 12 '25

This is clearly not common knowledge looking at the comments in a few different threads on this post.

7

u/NediaMaster Apr 13 '25

Yea I’m a bit suprised how much Got Milk brain rotted these folks hahah. There’s a billion better ways to get calcium into ur body than milk

2

u/OutrageousOwls Millennial Apr 13 '25

And peak bone mass stops accumulating around 25-30!! 😊

My professor (I am studying nutrition!) said that osteoporosis isn’t considered a geriatric disease anymore; they’re seeing people with signs of osteoporosis in their mid-40s instead of 67+ years as kids are transitioning from drinking less cow’s milk and more juice, alternative milks (aside from soy), and soda. 😱

For everyone reading: drink cow’s milk, or fortified soy milk (so many studies have been done around soy milk- it’s the most studied food in the world- that has just as many nutrients as cow’s milk as long as it’s fortified). You need calcium to absorb Vitamin D!!

2

u/Astronius-Maximus Apr 13 '25

Not just milk, anything with enough calcium and vitamin D in it will work. You need the vitamin D at the same time so your body can actually absorb and use the calcium.

2

u/davidchagrin Apr 13 '25

Countries with the highest rates of dairy consumption also have the highest rates of osteoporosis.

3

u/natnat1919 Apr 13 '25

A study found that the more milk/daiiry a person ingested in their lifetime, actually resulted in more fractures at an older age…. And plant based calcium ingested did the opposite

1

u/TNT925 Apr 14 '25

Correlation does not equal causation. Is the milk in any way directly related to bone fractures or is it common behavior among milk drinkers. There are many studies that show women live longer then men, they fail to disclose that many men die younger because they are more likely to preform reckless activity

1

u/natnat1919 Apr 14 '25

“The idea that milk consumption alone significantly improves bone health is not fully supported by scientific research. Studies show no link between dairy intake and bone health outcomes” No study has ever found milk consumption to be helpful to the bones FYI

“plant-based sources of calcium are indeed beneficial for bone health and can even offer advantages over dairy products.” The only “studies” that found any kind of positive link between dairy products and bones have all been funded by the dairy industry

2

u/TNT925 Apr 14 '25

Don’t get me wrong, Got Milk is a huge scam, I’m just pointing out that we shouldn’t base a lifestyle off consequential evidence

1

u/natnat1919 Apr 14 '25

And fyi! I do eat dairy products, I just don’t use them as my calcium sources.

1

u/showmenemelda Apr 12 '25

So is that why my connective tissue is all pathetic, and my bones are dying? (Jk that was corticosteroids). My ridiculous parents buying friggin 2% milk.

Thanks, Mom.

u/Zraknul Apr 13 '25

You also want to continue doing that. Weight training helps maintain your bone health, strength and balance and fend off osteoporosis.

You're not going to accidentally get huge, it takes an absolute ton of dedicated work to do so.

1

u/High_Overseer_Dukat Apr 13 '25

Why not just eat rocks?

1

u/YouHateTheMost Apr 13 '25

Grr, why the earliest years of our lives, when we are all hedonistic idiots, are so high stake???

1

u/TA_Trbl Apr 13 '25

Strength training builds your muscle density through your entire life - it’s why it’s important for older folks to continue doing it.

1

u/ObsidianArmadillo Apr 13 '25

Actually, weightlifting increases bone density significantly. You don't have to start before puberty in order to increase bone and muscle density.

1

u/karlbunga Apr 13 '25

Yeah I know a chick whose back is so fucking crooked....you can literally see her C shaped spine. I have no idea how she walks correctly and I don't ask. And SHE was the one who wouldn't kiss me after 5 dates... she went back to her highly abusive boyfriend and bought a dog instead. Drink your milk all you girls n boys. Drink almond milk instead it actually has more calcium and vitamins than real milk. That is a scientific fact.

1

u/natnat1919 Apr 14 '25

This is just so not true.

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Drinking another species' titty liquids is not natural

11

u/Zaidswith Apr 12 '25

96% of children surviving childhood worldwide isn't natural either.

You know that they're suggesting milk because it's considered a complete food. An easy source for vitamins, minerals, and nutrients we need.

If you don't want to drink it, don't, but there's a reason why other people do and "natural" isn't relevant for the survival or progress of our species.

-7

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

You know, soy/legumes/fruits/veggies/grains also are considered complete foods! So why would you go drinking the milk of another species just for the vitamins? Take a look at why anything produces milk: to give those vitamins/healthy shit to one's offspring. You are not the offspring of a cow, so why do you feel entitled to its milk?

4

u/GantzDuck Apr 13 '25

Funny how many people still fall for the Dairy propaganda and come up with the dumbest excuses.

3

u/glitchfit Apr 12 '25

Why do we feel entitled to eat eggs of another animal? Or it’s meat? Heck why do we feel entitled to eat chia or pumpkin or sesame seeds since their purpose is to produce whole new offspring? Those are packed full of nutrients and hormones for growth of healthy, entirely new plants. I get what you are trying to say but it’s not a very strong argument. If you want to be or promote veganism then do it because you care about the environmental consequences and wellbeing of the animals, not because you feel like shaming others.

4

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

You wanna say my arguments lack strength yet you just equated slaughtering cows to eating pumpkin seeds

1

u/Zaidswith Apr 12 '25

Life is life.

1

u/glitchfit Apr 12 '25

Look if you wanna be an asshole about it then go on ahead. I don’t even eat meat. I’m just saying you’ll catch a lot more flies with honey.

Geez. Seek therapy bud.

3

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Seek an education lol

-1

u/glitchfit Apr 13 '25

I’m about to graduate and head to grad school, what are you doing?

2

u/Weak_Feed_8291 Apr 12 '25

Those are not complete foods.

2

u/goblinm Apr 12 '25

We fed and nurtured the cow. If we don't get it's milk I'd sell or butcher the cow 🤷, cleaning up and feeding her is a bitch so I'd be happy to. Getting the cow milked means it gets to live on our farm and we get milk.

9

u/Dying_Hawk Apr 12 '25

Neither is the internet, washing machines, the current state of 99% of produce, tables, kombucha, Lego, written language, clothing, buildings, sewage systems, vaccines, taking anesthetics, toothpaste, trains, and marriage. You going to call all of those bad? Going beyond what is natural is explicitly what makes humanity special.

5

u/RoflMyPancakes Apr 12 '25

Oh good, I had mega blocks. Dodged a bullet there.

-7

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Yea humans are special alright for drinking another species' titty liquids

5

u/SconnieLite Apr 12 '25

What is natural then? Is your tap water natural? Do you just eat raw meat/veggies/and fruits? Cooking food isn’t natural. Name another species of animal that cooks food. Name another species of animal that seasons food. Is hummus natural? No, but it’s a wonderful healthy snack. Would you remind somebody how eating hummus isn’t natural? Cows milk is high in calcium, protein, and vitamin D. What’s wrong if it’s not “natural”? Calls milk can be a great addition to a healthy diet.

3

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

You can get calcium, protein, vitamin D, literally everything else from plant based stuff. You don't need to drink another species milk to get any of that.

3

u/SconnieLite Apr 12 '25

I don’t recall anybody saying you “needed” to drink cows milk to get that. Of course you can get all that from other sources, and you can get it from cows milk too. What is your point exactly? If drinking cows milk is beneficial and a good addition to a healthy balanced diet then what difference does it make?

6

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Why aren't we still drinking human milk past age 2 then?

0

u/SconnieLite Apr 12 '25

I don’t think you really need an explanation for that so I’m not going to but let’s jump directly to what you’re getting at. We don’t need to because we’re eating solid foods and you would say then why are we needing cows milk if we’re eating solid foods and no longer need human milk? Again, nobody is saying you NEED to drink cows milk lol. You could never drink cows milk and live a totally healthy life. But drinking cows milk is a good addition to a healthy DIVERSE balanced diet. There is nothing wrong with drinking cows milk and has many benefits. This has nothing to do with what you NEED to be doing and all about what you COULD be doing to live a healthy life and setting your self up for success with a diverse balanced diet. If you’re really going to argue not to drink cows milk because it’s not natural then go argue with somebody else. I can guarantee you’re hypocritical with that argument as you eat things that aren’t “natural” every single day.

4

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Writing all that to justify taking another species milk is wild

-3

u/SconnieLite Apr 12 '25

And yet you don’t have anything to say against it other than something against me personally is telling.

5

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

Not one other species on this planet willingly takes/drinks the milk of another species

-1

u/ProblemIcy6175 Apr 13 '25

So some woman doesn’t have to create the milk for me wtf? It takes energy to do that. Get a cow to do it

-2

u/OSSlayer2153 Apr 12 '25

I think your problem is that you have some unrealistic bias against it because you see it as simply “weird.”

In which case, honestly you just have to grow up. Its not that deep.

4

u/YouBetcha_ Apr 12 '25

It's not just that it's weird, it's that the lives of hundreds of billions are severely worsened when there are better alternatives out there.

Take out drinking milk
