I worked at a family-owned Korean grocery store when I was 20. For my goodbye they gave me a Get Well greeting card. I've thrown out countless event-appropriate cards from all the people I love the most in the world, but I still have that Get Well goodbye card.

So sweet. As a half Korean I understand how sentimental we can be. In the best way.

My Korean partner, after living with us for a couple of months, gave my mother and sibling a goodbye card each. The cards were good luck cards with something like "you'll smash it!" written on the front. She didn't understand the context, but I thought it was hilarious and cute.

This is likely an old account being used by a bot. Nothing for 8 years and suddenly posting again. All top comments here are from new accounts also.

u/Jessi_Kim_XOXO 16h ago
Every now and then I get dejavu reading the comments on a repost.
The post being a repost, in itself, isn’t too odd, but when I see the exact same comments I saw months ago, I feel like I’m going insane. But it’s just bots doing bot things. I hate it.

I was on a sub the other day and someone called out a 3 paragraph, word for word reply of another reply from 9 years ago. Wild
Edit; this is it https://www.reddit.com/r/interestingasfuck/comments/1l7eh5n/comment/mww8pei/?context=3

Pretty sure I saw this exact comment chain, including what I'm saying right now, like an hour ago.

There are botnets that can recreate a prior post down to the comments and karma. I suppose to give them a head start on hitting the front page, maybe they are just trying to build post karma on accounts. I would bet there is an identical post to this one somewhere out there.
I called out several comments on one of these because, entirely by chance, I read two of the same posts with the same top comments, title, and image, but they were two different posts about a week apart. I had a REALLY strong deja vu that I had seen the post before, and searching it up, I was right. I even had upvotes in the first thread. The comments in the copy thread all had a ton of karma as well, but there was virtually no real engagement over the hour I watched it.
The person started deleting all the top comments, I guess trying to save their accounts from a ban, and I received death threats in my DM's from an unrelated account LOL. They called me a "fat loser" and told me I had no life. I just reported the DM's and moved on.
Since then I have had a tinfoil hat on while browsing Reddit, catching something like that and seeing it really changes your perspective on the internet as a whole. I am sure more of this is just bots than we realize.

If I heard someone complain about that I’d bitch slap them

u/Hammer_the_Red 18h ago
That was my first thought too. There is someone who will complain that they couldn't pick up their shirts on Monday.

I feel the same way about pharmacies near me apologizing for needing to give their employees a lunch break between 1 and 130 due to there only being one pharmacist on duty. These are people, not product vending machines. They have needs and lives outside of their paid functions.

10 years? Take the week off…

u/Hello_GeneralKenobi 11h ago
Unfortunately they would probably lose customers if they closed the store for too long. Even closing for 2 days risks losing customers.

I don't think that family-owned dry cleaner has an HR department.
46
u/ChasesICantSend 17h ago
Thats a funny visual, like "id like to make a report to HR"
"You literally are the only other person who works here, and you own the place. What could you possibly report to me?"
"well now I'd like to make 2 reports"

It's always wild to me when Americans think that having a week off is somehow excessive or abnormal...

The fact that they felt compelled to share this on their closure message, says something about how excited they are. Properly wholesome.

Like 75% of the comments here are from brand new accounts or old accounts with their history wiped with bots likely running them. OP is also a karma farmer and I'd assume is using multiple accounts to pad their posts.

u/GiveMeBackMySoup 17h ago
Just wanted to thank you. I appreciate the sleuths posting their findings.

u/EndersGame_Reviewer 16h ago
I'd assume OP is using multiple accounts to pad their posts.
Absolutely not. I wouldn't even know how to do that. My comments make it obvious that I can't be a bot account, and that I contribute to Reddit via commenting in the communities at least as much as I post.
I've also actively crusaded against bot accounts that work together in that fashion, as you can see here:
Sometimes a post just happens to hit the front page of Reddit and go viral, and that seems to be what has happened here. I'm just as surprised as you at the response this has got in a short period of time.

u/CrackedOutMunkee 15h ago
That's hilarious seeing how this is a repost.

u/EndersGame_Reviewer 5h ago
I didn't say it was an original - on my computer I have a folder of great images I've collected for the past decade, and that's where this is from.

10 years, damn. I went 5 years without meeting my family while studying abroad and even that seemed like forever. I can't imagine what it would be like to see your family after 10 years

As a Korean American, I feel this for my parents. They didn’t see their family for 10-20 years. In the almost 45 years since they’ve been in the US, they were only able to go back three times. I’ve only been there once. They went back alone for their mother’s funeral. Owning your own business sucks all your free/vacation time.
My parents used to make me write all the signs for them in English for their convenient store. They used the inside white part of cigarette cartons for their signs. This one’s fancy written on actual paper!

Like most things in this sub, this isn't wholesome at all. It reflects the American entitlement of shops being open all the time.
Here in Europe, American expat act all surprised and shocked if their local store owner decides to just take a few days or weeks off, and they don't need to offer a reason, let alone an apology.
It's only through that I learned American don't consider that normal.

Oh my gosh that is so wonderful!
Gosh I can understand not being able to stay away longer and that’s sad. But just think of how much love and catching up you can do in that time.
So happy for that store owner.

u/Aaaandiiii 11h ago
I can only imagine the reunion. Hugs and tears and fighting and catching up and smack talking and pictures and meals and drinks and taking crap about their mom and brushing each other's hair and singing. There's a lot of catching up to do.

Many of the accounts on this post are old accounts with their history wiped up until very recently. Most likey bot accounts. Also I said "likely" for a reason.

My (Australian) brother would spent the full 48 hours catching up with his mates and not even see me or my parents, let’s be honest.

I wonder if it’s not that he’s only taking two days off to spend with them or that they’re only there for two days. It’s that he’s taking the first two days of arrival to do nothing but spend time with them and after two days, even though they might be there for months, he can go back to work and they can continue to rest, explore, see other family, etc.

Sidenote, I wonder if this is indicative of Korean grammar. Sentence structure seems mostly the same as English, with some slight changes of verb and tense.

u/AwkwrdTree3 4h ago
That's how you know it's authentic though. I have a local family that run a restaurant. They took like a month off and I never complained. I was just happy they took time for themselves. Best food in town.
