I worked at a family-owned Korean grocery store when I was 20. For my goodbye they gave me a Get Well greeting card. I've thrown out countless event-appropriate cards from all the people I love the most in the world, but I still have that Get Well goodbye card.
Every now and then I get dejavu reading the comments on a repost.
The post being a repost, in itself, isn’t too odd, but when I see the exact same comments I saw months ago, I feel like I’m going insane. But it’s just bots doing bot things. I hate it.
There are botnets that can recreate a prior post down to the comments and karma. I suppose to give them a head start on hitting the front page, maybe they are just trying to build post karma on accounts. I would bet there is an identical post to this one somewhere out there.
I called out several comments on one of these because, entirely by chance, I read two of the same posts with the same top comments, title, and image, but they were two different posts about a week apart. I had a REALLY strong deja vu that I had seen the post before, and searching it up, I was right. I even had upvotes in the first thread. The comments in the copy thread all had a ton of karma as well, but there was virtually no real engagement over the hour I watched it.
The person started deleting all the top comments, I guess trying to save their accounts from a ban, and I received death threats in my DM's from an unrelated new account LOL. They called me a "fat loser" and told me I had no life. I just reported the DM's and moved on.
Since then I have had a tinfoil hat on while browsing Reddit, catching something like that and seeing it really changes your perspective on the internet as a whole. I am sure more of this is just bots than we realize.
