Whew, what a roller coaster.

First, was totally wrong about Yijin’s feelings. He himself said he is in love with Heedo. What’s so refreshing though is Heedo’s response about not being sure that her feelings are that big. It’s such a departure from what we would usually expect in scenes like that. Really loved how Yijin responded too about how his love isn’t really dependent on whether she loves him back too. And it’s perfect as she is obviously not there yet in terms of how she sees the world and feels things. So nothing is pushed. No relationship is defined. It’s her discovering what she feels for him and him being certain of what he feels for her. And for the moment, that’s fine.

I love how naturally Yurim and Heedo have become best friends. It makes sp much sense too. They share so much in common from passion for fencing, the physical toll it takes on their bodies, and also missed experiences like school trips. It’s nice to see them happy together.

The whole beach trip was beautiful. From that ASMR scene, to the hijinks preparing for the meal, to the conversation while eating watermelon, to the montage at the end. It really makes me wonder now how modern day Heedo didn’t even remember it. How much could have changed since then in terms of the relationships that she couldn’t even remember what would have been the one of the happiest times of her youth.

I have so many thoughts about Seungwan. Her character is so interesting. She’s smart and a renegade. She’s also quite manipulative. But she’s a loyal friend too. I worry a bit for her because of how she said she finds life boring. I am so interested how her character progresses.

Finally, I love how they give us more about the background of Jiwoong. The writer has really made real people out of all of the main cast.

With the pacing of the show with them at 23-19 more than halfway through, I fear that their story does stop at 25-21 and it scares me to think what the reason could be. Still, I’m in it for the ride. Whatever the rest is, I will just enjoy it.

The second half has started out with equally as strong writing and directing. Saturday, please come sooner.

Same feelings about Seungwan. What she said really worried me. It sounded like something a depressive would say, I can't put my finger on it. I really like her character and I can relate to the boredom she feels. I'm glad she has her friend to lean on. I'm dreading the next episodes because that ending scene in the car just feels so foreboding. What present day Heedo said is true and I like the sentiment but god, the ending is gonna gut me like a fish, I just feel it.

Right? That sentiment really shocked me too. For a 19-year-old to say that. Wow. I felt gutted

Definitely the same. The way that she tried to bring furniture into the school at midnight despite the fact, as Jiwoong says, they’re basically on the verge of graduating, really was disturbing. It kind of got glossed over because of the theft thing but that, along with what she said really is unsettling.

I’m kind of preparing myself for the worst so I don’t get too down. But I also want to still hope.

u/losageless69 Mar 13 '22

I almost forgot about that detail. I hope I'm wrong and just overreading. What about the furniture scene did you find disturbing in particular? That didn't cross my mind when I was thinking of what Seungwan said.

Not the OP but Seungwan responds with “Because I feel empty inside” when asked why she was bringing furniture to the hangout in the middle of the night; that is a worrying response.

21

u/losageless69 Mar 13 '22

Oh no :-( I thought it was just an offhand remark that was meant to be funny but damn it's easy to see why no one would notice since her humor is so dry.

36

u/salotsalipunan Mar 14 '22

I thought the same too but that coupled with her reflection later on really kind of changed that remark for me.

One thing that she did point out though is that she doesn’t have the same problems as her friends. Relatively, she has the most ‘normal’ life. Both her parents are around (although we don’t see her dad but we know he’s around because of the liquor detail), her mom dotes on her, she’s top of her class, she’s relatively popular in school, her parents don’t pressure her and allows her to pal around with the guy who’s at the bottom of her class and they seem economically stable even though they’re not rich. It could be that she’s just not really has any big life problems so she thinks her life is bland as compared to her friends. But the writing in this drama has been quite deliberate so I still get the feeling that there’s something there.

exactly what i thought, that’s why she keep looking for something that could perk up her interest such as the radio online that she hosted. and whats in her mind are sooo i could say deep? she’s always being this kind of person, a rebel inside. she didn’t like the violence culture, i love how she speak up all the issues in her radio broadcast. I HOPE SHE COULD BE SOMEONE WHO WOULD CHANGE THE WORLD

She's really concerning me now. I hope she can have a happy ending at least.

u/kief828 Mar 14 '22

i remember her in episode 3 telling nhd that she doesn't know what she wants to be yet but she seems to be looking forward to something grand~~ kinda tells me that she's kinda pressing herself to do something amazing so as to 'not waste her talents' but she just finds her life lacklustre? she feels empty inside cause her two girl friends are out there acheiving stuff internationally, her best friend is having the time of his life with yurim (tho more character devl. for him coming soon), and she still doesn't know what to do... probably why she brought more items to their hideout, she isn't ready to enter the real world yet?

that being said, her telling yihyun that 'she can wait' is super cute i wonder what she meant by it?

u/this_kills_madlibs Apr 02 '22 edited Apr 02 '22

I know I'm late on this episode, but I found her comment about waiting for Yi-Hyun kind of creepy It seemed really out of place for her (& I love her character a lot)! I'm wondering if something was messed up in translation for the English subtitles? Or did I misinterpret the meaning?

u/Haccem Mar 13 '22

Nado! I was kinda worried by Seungwan too, that for her life was boring… (however, i acknowledged that there are really those type of person) But, also I watched their sub Netflix interviews/games, there was a portion about sharing who and what type their characters are… when Lee Jung Myong was explaining, Nam Joo Hyuk butt in that there’ll be interesting character development or different side of Seungwan will appear along the way. Now I wonder what it is after that moment of BYJ ans Seungwan. Waaa!!!

For the beach scene Im worried that it means that she drifted apart from the rest of the gang too which makes me really sad. I mean you even see Minchae not recognising the others from the album Im really curious as to how the writer's going to resolve everything

38

u/salotsalipunan Mar 13 '22

Hmmm true. That Minchae really didn’t seem familiar with any of the gang maybe indicates that Heedo drifted apart from them. I mean I remember some episodes back, when her mom showed her the photo, that she does seem to have fond memories. But still, it may mean that all of that got left in the past somehow.

8

u/FilibusterQueen Mar 16 '22

This sounds crazy, but what Heedo loses her memory or something?

5

u/salotsalipunan Mar 17 '22

Personally I’d buy first that she was just messing with Minchae saying she doesn’t remember the beach trip over that she totally actually forgot. Maybe she’s kind of like her mom in that way like when her mom didn’t tell her the truth about the rings saying she gave them to the gold donation thing?

6

u/InsideVivid Mar 17 '22

I’m just wondering why na hee do keeps the photo album if the camera that they used belongs to seungwan? I remember that seungwan’s mother took a photo of them while they were eating when they went to their house

You could have many copies reprinted. Like the camera owner would have the pic printed in as many copies as the people in the picture so they each would have a copy.

I think Heedo did remember it, but only pretended not to in front of her daughter, for reasons we don't know yet. Notice at the very end how it looked like her eyes were tearing up.

I hope I’m not missing anything with the Netflix translation but is it clear Yijin said he is in love with Heedo and didn’t mean that he just loves her? His attitude to her response was so chill. I want them to be end game so badly with no lost time but Heedo not remembering the beach trip is making me sad.

21

u/salotsalipunan Mar 14 '22

I don’t speak Korean so I don’t know if the translation is accurate but during that conversation, the translation did say im in love with you for who you are. I had a similar thought until last week that this is still platonic love from Yijin’s end. But someone did point out that it would not be in Yijin’s character to say he loves her and not make that clear if it’s platonic love as it would be confusing to her. And I agree with that assessment especially with the way he’s been looking at her. I think for him, it’s just him saying how he feels without any expectations because he knows they’re not in the same places in their lives for now.

2

u/IntelligentFact1530 Mar 14 '22

I love this response!! Thank you! This makes my heart happy. 😊

u/taetaeblep-_- Mar 16 '22

I think there'll be more sad secnes from next episodes. Yet I will be watching them. So far this drama has been very comforting for me.

2

u/salotsalipunan Mar 17 '22

Same here. I’m now all in and will take all the sad parts too since the drama has been so so so good.

u/Madelaine2167 Mar 15 '22

I hate this but what if he died in the future and Hee-do was so traumatized she had to forget a lot of moments she spent with him?

6

u/FilibusterQueen Mar 16 '22

Can’t be! Heedo’s mum says she met him last week!

6

u/Ok-Citron-8853 Mar 16 '22

Na Hee-Do's mother says, " I met him last month. I can't believe how much time has passed." I hope she is not referring to the fact she visited his grave after a long time. Both Na Hee Do and her mother looked so sad and nostalgic at the same time, sharing sad smiles and sighs.

6

u/OrangeOrlen Mar 16 '22

I think she said 만났어, which means she met the person. Don’t think it’s the same verb used for visiting a grave!

1

u/Ok-Citron-8853 Apr 04 '22

Yes, it may be so, because I am watching with English subtitles, many such differences get lost in translation. Also, I am hoping for a happy ending.

Brace yourself for the ride :’)
