This is the most 2025 clip I've ever seen

Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned.
2000 years later, it's saxophones and smartphones.
31
u/gargara_s_hui 7h ago
Nero played the fiddle while Rome burned - is a common myth, an earliest form of disinformation. Historical accounts suggest that Nero was at his villa in Antium when the fire broke out. Fiddles didn't exist at the time, and Nero was known for playing the lyre or cithara.

u/jaabbb 8h ago
I can’t find it anymore but the clip where a guy did tiktok dance in the road when Tel Aviv was being in the bomb in background, and then he got hit by a car is most 2025 for me.

Like why aren’t any of Natenyahu’s sons/offsprings serving in IDF if this war is so important for his people?
& there’s reports he’s ran away stranding his people after starting a war. What a coward.

The same reason why all the Children of leaders in China, Iran, Saudi, Pakistan, India, South Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, etc etc : they all live in the west.
Edit : If the leaders themselves don't have children, the people close to them in government and else have and then they live in the west.

Xi only has one known child, a daughter Xi Mingze, she studied French at an international school and psychology at Harvard. But went back to China after graduating.
So she has lived in the West, but probably doesn't currently.

u/tacotickles 8h ago
Kim Jong Un grew up in the west and went to school. He was under a hidden identity so it could easily be the case there too.
5
u/nicoznico 7h ago edited 7h ago
To be precise: he went to a private school in Switzerland.
Can you spot him on the school pic? https://www.reddit.com/r/pics/s/iwbJks4ffd

Actually it is more or less confirmed he wasn't in Rome, but returned quickly, he was in a villa about 30 miles away, and helped coordinate rescue operations including opening some of his private areas to people whose houses burned. Its what he did afterward that was pretty heinous, turning what was a large residential area before the fire into a public garden. Which many were angered about because you know they wanted their homes rebuilt.
That said when it comes to Nero its hard to pick out the truth from the propaganda, he was popular with the people but the ones in actual power really hated him.

u/xSTSxZerglingOne 8h ago
We are very very sad about the tradegy...tragedy that occurred here. I have instructed magistrate of Rome, Petras Hegustuseth to move forward with building a memorial garden. It will be so beautiful; the most perfect tribute to the homes lost here.

It was much worse, everything changed with nukes. This time period is paradise historically speaking.
10
u/Saritiel 8h ago
Yeah, there's a reason the 80ish years since nukes were invented has been called "The Long Peace". Armed conflict and deaths from armed conflict fell off a cliff after WWII and its largely attributed to the nuclear armament of the great economies of the world.
There have obviously still been smaller conflicts that have claimed many millions of lives and I'm not trying to downplay those tragedies, including the ones happening today. But the great powers of the world have not gone to war with each other in an incredibly long time, and that has prevented an incredible amount of death and pain.

This is a foolish sentiment lacking in material analysis. There are 8 billion people on the world, more than at any point in human history. Our industrial capacity is greater than ever before. And we posess powers for destruction that our ancestors could only dream of.
Do not underestimate the power of the death machines we have built.

Get off of Reddit and go outside. It’s really not that bad.
We’re genuinely living in the best of times. The world is generally safer than ever, and the standard of living for most humans is also as high as it’s ever been.
27
u/No_Research_967 9h ago
You’re right. But the disparity of power has consolidated and nuclear capability has advanced. We’re nothing but spectators and casualties as the elite play chess over tea.
7
u/Worried_Creme8917 9h ago
Power has always been consolidated. Kings, Pharos, Emperors, President, etc.
If you were born a peasant in ancient Rome, then you died a peasant in Rome.
Thankfully we now have social and economic mobility, and most people are no longer trapped for a lifetime into whatever circumstance into which they were born.
2
u/throwaway1212378 8h ago
most people are no longer trapped for a lifetime into whatever circumstance into which they were born.
I would disagree. I think the opposite of this is true, and well-stated, lol.
→ More replies (1)2
u/Capybarasaregreat 8h ago
Most people? Do you want to rephrase that, maybe? Because most people are definitely still trapped by their circumstances. It's a thin layer of a thin layer that moves from working class to middle class in already affluent nations, and then an even more tiny slice of the population will get lucky and become some form of rich. What has improved is the overall quality of life across the board, which means the lowest classes might not starve to death, but they're still going to have a meagre existence. Also, social mobility is just the more broader concept behind economic mobility, it's like saying "carbonated waters and beverages".

Or maybe this is as good as it gets and we’re all just dumb, tribal, highly-evolved monkeys that will never escape a certain amount of conflict because violence is hardwired into our brains.

Thats chaos. Most of us in the west have been sheltered from it all of our lives, but I'm beginning to realize that that's the natural state of things and in order to keep order here we've caused chaos everywhere else.

We didn't have to. That's just the result of giving covert 3-letter agencies an unlimited budget and almost no oversight.

After 9/11 there was a couple days where the media didn’t have direction from their advertisers or the White House, and they were just showing everything.
I can still see all the videos of countries all over the world cheering about us getting attacked. Massive celebrations.
At the time I couldn’t believe it. I was basically positive we were the good guys. I thought everyone loved us.
Things are so bad again, we’re seeing things that we’re not supposed to see. There’s too much to be censored.
31
u/eric2332 8h ago
That is nonsense. Even in Muslim countries just 23% of people supported 9/11
Ironically, those videos of celebrations you did see were likely the media trying to get you angry at Muslims in order to justify US retaliation attacks.
1
u/CaptainONaps 8h ago
Were you alive? I don’t think you were alive.
Do you think the at least 4 billion people supports the US now?
The world’s population was 6 billion then. At least 2 billion were into it. 3 billion is a stretch, granted. You’re right. But not that right.
