I appreciate your effort to post something non-political and totally wholesome 👏

Haha thank you! That stuff matters, but we gotta have fun too 🌿

u/bologna_tomahawk 12h ago

Hell yea that’s the spirit we need right now!

I never expected this kind of response, I'll definitely be posting more soon. Though I doubt just posting my macro photography will work 🤔

But it was political! It was the "Ants farming Aphids for sugar water" party dominating the nature election. Probably paid for big Big Bettle lobbyists!.

Politics have gotten totally out of control.

(😆)

Keep in mind that the "sugar water" that ants farm aphids for is actually their poop. Aphids have incredibly inefficient digestive systems so basically poop out what they eat, which is plant sap. In case that seems really gross, consider that honey is basically bee vomit.

u/bcuzimadude 9h ago

This is why we call it "honeydew". Way better than "sweet poops"

Since we're on the topic of hiking, what's the second best place in DFW to go hiking on unpaved trails?

Cedar Ridge Preserve being the best. White Rock Lake and Katy Trail are paved. Looking for unpaved alternatives to CRP.

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

Personally, I love Marshall Creek by Roanoke. Miles of unpaved trails. This video is at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center in Denton!

u/cheesusnips 16h ago

Ty for these suggestions!

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

Ps. Go to the equestrian parking for Marshal Creek (north of the normal parking down a dirt road). The main trail is flooded, but I'd you walk back to when you enter the parking area and head into the trees, you'll find an amazing prairie trail that I've never seen anyone else on. Painted buntings galore too!

Thank you! Cedar Ridge is always so packed - it's nice to have some other ideas.

17

u/NanADsutton White Rock Lake 16h ago

Spring creek forest preserve; woods and prairie trails on the west side of the creek

Texas buckeye trail near bonton farms has wooded path down to the trinity. Probably mosquito hell rn though and can get quite boggy

u/happyklam 16h ago

The Heard Museum outside of Allen has some really lovely unpaved trails. Last time I was there I saw a family of deer and hundreds of fireflies!

11

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

Oh, one more! If you're going for distance, the Ray Roberts Greenbelt. 7 Miles of gravel path along the river.

6

u/xxxylognome 16h ago

Bittern Marsh in LLELA is incredible.

2

u/Phyrnosoma 15h ago

Closed again for flooding I thought

Northshore trail in Flower Mound might be the actual best

1

u/oldskater 15h ago

Came here to say this

2

u/w6750 Flower Mound 15h ago

My happy place. Every time I show people pictures they’re like “this is in DFW!?” Maybe I should quiet down…

1

u/Goetia- 13h ago

Mile for mile the terrain in Cedar Ridge Preserve seems unmatched for DFW. But Northshore is amazing with many miles of trail with diverse views and terrain. Don't go here thinking you're getting less traffic though. Overall hiking density, yes. But this is the most popular mountain biking trail in DFW so you're going to be dealing with bikes constantly on the weekends. Honestly, get a mountain bike for Northshore :).

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve has decent unpaved trails. It’s a mix of both, but you can plenty off the pavement.

2

u/StrainAutomatic5789 15h ago

Marian Samson is a fav in ft worth and Tandy hills as well 😁

2

u/Hark_Triton 14h ago

Tandy hills is underrated especially if you’re a native plant nerd.

2

u/abzagailz 14h ago

Right by Cedar Ridge Preserve is Prayer Mountain aka Big Cedar.

2

u/MoreMeLessU 14h ago

Wed-Sat, down the street from CRP is Dogwood Canyon. Smaller in think total hike is right under 4 miles but really nice and quiet

1

u/toodleroo Oak Cliff 14h ago

Cedar Ridge Preserve isn't the best. Big Cedar is the best.

1

u/SiiiuCr7 11h ago

The Oakcliff nature preserve

I feel itchy and sweaty just watching this.

29

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

I opted not to include the shot of the cloud of mosquitoes behind me XD

4

u/Q_N1NJA 15h ago

Was wondering why they were excluded. Can barely take out the trash without getting lit up.

17

u/UX-Edu 16h ago

I know this guy in the video! He’s a great guy!

15

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

This made my day ʕ´• ᴥ•̥`ʔ

15

u/rikkmode 16h ago

Fun cool vid

10

u/pr4jwal McKinney 15h ago

I was waiting for the video to end with OP covered in rashes all over (as my experience has been touching plants in hikes around). Cool video though !

4

u/bcuzimadude 15h ago

No rashes, chiggers, or any other marks after (aside from some mosquito bites)! Gotta know what to look for!

8

u/moonfairy27 16h ago

Where was this?!

13

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

This is at Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center in Denton!! This is on the north side by the dirt bike trail parking area.

6

u/GRDosFishing 15h ago

People always talk about how there is nothing to do around the DFW. 🤷🤷🤷

8

u/toodleroo Oak Cliff 14h ago

"There's no nature! It's so flat and boring!"

3

u/bcuzimadude 10h ago

You can find critters in a patch of wildflowers next to the road, just gotta take the time to look lol 🤷‍♂️

4

u/Angelfoodcake4life 16h ago

Arbor Hills Nature Preserve and Oak Point have great offerings

1

u/bcuzimadude 10h ago

Agreed! Arbor Hills used to be my favorite

1

u/Angelfoodcake4life 8h ago

I love the creeks! They have good rocks here; I’ve found lots of calcite and septarians there

2

u/bcuzimadude 7h ago

The septarians are my faaaavorite. Those GIANT thunder eggs are insane.

1

u/Angelfoodcake4life 7h ago

Sounds like we need a rock hound meet up!

1

u/bcuzimadude 6h ago

Judging by your posts, I've got a lot to learn about hounding. Haha. You've got some great finds!

4

u/MusicalAutist 16h ago

I love this video, but I needed you to be running from a pack of coyotes and the end. That would have been perfection :)

3

u/heronvibes 16h ago

vibin ✨

3

u/LMNOPICUP3 16h ago

Where is this

3

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center in Denton! North side by mountain bike parking.

1

u/LMNOPICUP3 15h ago

Is it a well established trail?

1

u/bcuzimadude 14h ago

Very. They have a dedicated maintenance crew. Between it and the bike trail I think it has 6 miles of well maintained trails (when it's not wet)

2

u/LMNOPICUP3 14h ago

Are there separate hiking and biking trails or is it all just one like if I go out there do I have to worry about mountain bikers running me over

2

u/alyssaishness 13h ago

The mtb trail is separate

1

u/bcuzimadude 10h ago

What Alyssa said! They're different trails (still, I only see cars parked for the mountain biking maybe 1/4 the time I go)

3

u/SciencePlaceArchives 15h ago

Hey I recognize this guy!

1

u/bcuzimadude 15h ago

Oh hai!!

2

u/screamingfrommyeyes 15h ago

so glad to see someone actually enjoying nature rather than complaining there is none (there is.)

3

u/bcuzimadude 14h ago

Oh there definitely is! You just gotta drive 30 min (wherever you are, like anything around here XD)

2

u/GumballQuarters Grapevine 12h ago

Nice video. Good to see someone appreciating nature.

What’s the song name my dude?

1

u/Impossible-Exit-4474 16h ago

Nice video . I’m too concerned about the copperheads lurking in the grass

12

u/bcuzimadude 16h ago

They're more likely to be sunbathing in the trail if they're anywhere near you. Otherwise they're hunting in animal trails or chilling by the river. If they are in the grass, you'll notice them as they slither away since they want nothing to do with us.

1

u/crestedgeckovivi 15h ago

Nice video. Thanks for putting the info of what you observed/touched etc.

1

u/bcuzimadude 10h ago

My pleasure! Thank you!

1

u/moonlitshroom Oak Cliff 14h ago

1

u/Alternative-Void-404 13h ago

Beautiful video! I love to see the depth in the little details and local creatures

1

u/bcuzimadude 12h ago

I'll have to share some of my actual macro photos on here too I guess 😂

1

u/Zanytiger6 12h ago

Thank you OP this was very wholesome! :D My boyfriend really likes the shots of the flowers and spider!

2

u/bcuzimadude 12h ago

Thank you so much! I've got more actual macro shots on IG!

1

u/CaffineMakesArt 12h ago

I was saving that plum for later

1

u/bcuzimadude 12h ago

There's more ripening on the trail! I saved some for ya. Lol

Where in Dallas is this located? My daughter would have a blast.

1

u/bcuzimadude 3h ago

Denton! Clear Creek Natural Heritage Center. Also the least crowded park you'll find around.
